$13 all you can eat brunch
    Jeremy H.

We were headed out for breakfast and this place was a last minute recommendation. I'm so glad we went. They offer an all you can eat brunch for $13 with live jazz music. The food is self serve; however, staff are attentive and available if you need anything. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with that Santa Fe style and tall ceilings. Exposed wood and an open feel make the experience even better. The food was delicious. I really enjoyed the French toast wish fresh fruit, granola, jam, and syrup over it. We spoke to the manager for a while and found that they also offer a boozy breakfast, which sounded wonderful. He talked about the bar and restaurant offerings, which we plan to return to try. There is also an Inn, so if you are visiting Santa Fe from elsewhere check that out. This was a great find in Santa Fe!

I visited Vanessie for the Branden & James concert and was seated right in the center which was great. Unfortunately we weren't able to have our friends sit with us despite calling ahead and arriving early. Next time we'll need to purchase our tickets in one transaction since they aren't accommodating of the seating chart for some reason. Other than that, we had a lovely time and enjoyed the live music so much. The waitress we had was prompt, but spoke too loudly and got shushed often from people around us. That took away from the ambiance a bit, but it is a dinner and a show so you'll have servers walking around the whole time. For the food, I had the lamb chops and a few bites of the ribeye. The lamb chops ($30) were on the smaller side and needed a little salt, but I liked the mint chimichurri that accompanied them. The ribeye ($41) was cooked perfectly. We also had truffle fries ($9) that were tasty.

I enjoyed my overnight stay at the Hotel Vanessie near the Plaza in Old Santa Fe. I loved the decor and especially the bathroom and shower design layout. The bed was super-comfortable and the ac unit kept it a near-perfect temperature optimal for sleeping in total comfort. I would like to come here once in a while to escape normal living circumstances!

TV Cords hanging all over the wall.

This hotel is not the high end boutique hotel it claims to be. Their on line photos are not at all what we experienced. It is shabby and not well taken care of. Not only can you see the photos of our room, but there were unacceptable annoyances during our stay such as; the tub didn't hold water, they ration the soaps and coffee, etc. Be aware.

Was supposed to come with arugula. Ordered MR. Came out MW with 1 soggy piece of arugula. $19.

Best (only?) piano bar in town! They always know my favorite songs, and the food is pretty darn good too.

Doug Montgomery is a fabulous singer and pianist. He studied at Julliard. The entertainment is great and the food very reasonably priced.

Since it was Memorial Day weekend there were lots of events to choose from. My friends all opted for the wine festival, and I reluctantly agreed to go with them instead of attending Blues & Brews alone. Fortunately, the weather was bad and it started raining while I was driving to the wine festival. I decided last minute to go here instead, and I have no regrets! I hadn't bought tickets yet, which I knew was a mistake because they were $45 at the door. I arrived at 2:30 PM and walked past an EXTREMELY long line of non-VIP ticket holders waiting for doors to open at 3PM. I was wondering if I should even bother while waiting in line to buy tickets, when an angel in the form of a scalper offered me a ticket for $30. I was a little nervous as I walked to the front, hoping the ticket would work.(I have a very strong goody-two-shoes streak that doesn't like it when I do scary things like buy tickets from random people.) Not only did it work, it was VIP! That meant I got to walk ahead of a line that literally went out the east doors of the casino, and get directly into the event. I HIGHLY recommend getting the VIP tickets (in advance) because it gets very crowded when they let everyone in. Last year, I didn't get to try all the beers because they were running out at the end and I hadn't been VIP. This year, I didn't notice as many vendors running out early. It seemed like there were less people this year, maybe because of all the other events that were going on simultaneously. So the deal is, you get a little souvenir glass (this event has plastic which makes me sad) that you can fill with a couple ounces of beer as many times as possible in 3 hours (4 if you're VIP). I also received tickets for alcohol samples which were for some flavored vodka and tequila. I didn't use mine because as an almost old person I have learned my lesson about drinking 50 samples of beer and then topping it off with hard alcohol. There was food available to purchase, but really, ain't nobody got time for that! I had to get my sample on! There were a good selection of breweries, mostly from Colorado and New Mexico but there were others there too. One trend I am not super excited about is how popular IPAs are now. Several places brought multiple IPAs and no Stouts or Porters which left me disappointed. IPAs taste like pennies. Yuck! I went back to the same few places that provided the darker beers multiple times. Marble had their Oatmeal Stout there, Left Hand had their Nitro Milk Stout which is one of my favorites. I also had a good one from Ponderosa. I had several samples of the Java Stout from Santa Fe Brewing. It was grand! If you're a hoarder like me, and like swag, there was plenty. I grabbed stickers, buttons, coasters, and bottle caps from most the vendors where I sampled. I also bought a sugar skull bag for $10 from Bloody Maria's to carry my stash in. Another pro this year was the music. They actually played some blues. Another bonus, there seemed to be a lot of friendly people there. I went by myself and even though I ran into my aunt and uncle there, I met some new people and ran into some old friends. On one trip to the bathroom I noticed a roller derby table where they were trying to recruit new players. I was attracted to the sugar skull swag (I'm obsessed) and inebriated enough to not be afraid to ask dumb questions like, "Do I have to know how to skate to join roller derby?" Well guess what? NO! You don't have to know, they teach you! I will be giving it a go next week! This is one of my favorite annual events in Albuquerque, I will definitely be getting tickets again next year. I left feeling happy, with a ton a loot, with new friends, and with a carpet burn on my elbow. Hoping to leave without that one next year!

Not because of the atmosphere. Not because of the location. Because of Katya. Katya is not my favorite bartender. She is my favorite human being. I've spent enough time in bars to know when someone is good at their job. Katya operates on an entirely different level. She can take what feels like sixteen orders at once, remember every single one, deliver them with absolute precision, keep the entire room moving, somehow do the math in her head, and still make every customer feel like they're the only person sitting at the bar. The basement bar itself is exactly what a great dive should be; a shithole. Heavy hobo stab vibes upon entry, including Katya. Smell: multiple buttholes farting at once. Climate control: sweaty patron dependent. Lighting: liability. TV: playing a rotation of trash 80s DVDs . If business schools were smart, they'd study her. If hospitality groups were smart, they'd clone her. If Santa Fe has any sense at all, they'll do whatever it takes to keep her exactly where she is. Cash only, so come prepared. And bring plenty of it, because she deserves every penny. Katya must be protected at all costs.

When I arrived, I originally wanted to visit the restaurant, which was closed for the week due to a family emergency. So I presented to the open seating bar. Was ignored a long time. Got up to go to the bar and someone else stole my table. Took a long time to be acknowledged by the bar tender and finally made an order. Took quite a while to get it. Things got better when a bar seat opened up and I moved to the bar. But keep in mind, a different bar tender pretty much took over and kept my drinks flowing. That first bar tender could not hang, demonstrating poor time management skills and appeared to be moving slowly. The second bar tender, I think his name is Hector, really turned things around for me. I visited Secreto (another hotel based outfit, in the Hotel St. Francis) because they are supposed to be a "cocktail experience," boasting "garden to glass" cocktails. Dark wood and southwestern palate for decor. I had: Smoked sage margarita: flagship drink, smoked washed premium margarita (super herbal) Ghost ranch reverie: Tequila with peach, apricot shrub, lemon, seltzer, smoked rosemary (light, not too sweet, an "homage to the passionate artists of the southwest) Madonna of the Mesa: tequila blanco, pomegranate, mouth herbs, lemon, rose water (soft and balanced) Secret garden: basil infused gin gimlet with lime and chomilre infused honey. "Botanical crispiness meets honeyed serenity." I liked the basil, but the honey wasn't my thing. But a good cocktail. Again, drinks were good. On a Thursday afternoon, it was initially crowded and the initial service was terrible. But Hector saved the day.
