Just moved to Norman from Dallas and was really hoping I could find a cue shop as good as this. They cut the brisket with lots of flavorful bark on each piece. The sauce was very good, I usually prefer it with a hotter kick. But I guess my tastebuddies have been dulled a bit from too many chilli peppers. The ribs were outstanding with lots of well cooked meat on each rib and just the right amount of tug. I learned that they have burnt ends, but they aren't on the menu and the only have them during the week, and they usually sold out of them by noon. A must stop for Piggy! I've only had the ribs but they were THE BEST ribs I've every eaten. Perfectly cooked with a great rub and almost zero fat. There is a little pull to each bite which comes off clear and the rest is still on the bone. Each bite is a taste of heaven. The three ribs, fries, and toast was cheap and way more enough for lunch. The only thing down to earth was the banana pudding, which was good enough to get again but not amazing. Outside it looks interesting - a old gas station that was cleaned up but the 'distress' stills shows. Inside the first thing you notice it CLEAN. This is not your typical down home BBQ join. The help - so friendly and helpful. The counter spent time helping the first timer discuss options to help me pick just the right think. Van's Pig Stand to me was just average. The guy who took my order was nice but he told me my meal came with toast when I asked for a side of it but it didn't. When I got my order there wasn't toast and the menu didn't say anything about it coming with it but I didn't fuss over it. I would have gladly paid for the side but it was fine without it. So I ordered a brisket sandwich with beans and curly fries. The brisket was great. I just wish there would have been more of it. There was just more bread than meat. I didn't care for my beans but that might just be a preference thing. The curly fries however were delicious. I felt very underwhelmed by the barbeque sauce choices. I did however did enjoy one of the bussers. She kept checking to see if we needed refills and was very sweet. After our meal I took a helping of banana pudding to go. It was just meh. So I'm going to have to edit my review unfortunately and lower from 5 stars to 4. They no longer have corn on the cob. The corn on the cob was the highlight of my meals here. No idea why they no longer have it, but ribs without corn is really sad. That being said, of course the ribs are still the best I've ever had. Hopefully they reconsider the corn some time in the future. The best ribs I've ever eaten. They are so soft and full of flavor. And have a lovely char. I want to keep eating even though I'm so full. I'm vegetarian 90% of the time and only indulge in meat for good reason. Van's turned out to be a part of my 10% while I was visiting family in OKC from Jersey. First, no, it was not good enough for me to want to convert to being a meat eater (silly rabbits), but it was really good. Not sure it's the best, but it was definitely not regrettable! I had the brisket with potatoe salad and collards. The brisket was very good, albeit a tad dry, and while other yelpers don't seem to be a fan of the two sauce options, I found the yellow bottle sauce (sweet & tangy) to be quite delicious with the brisket--even better when mixed with the more traditional version (although I wasn't in love with the traditional version on its own). I also picked on my cousin's ribs (sooo good, especially the burnt ends) but the beans are like what others described, just so-so. Actually, 100% my baked beans are better, and I don't put meat in em! The service was good and fast though. I'd say this place is closer to a 3.5-3.8. read more

I've patronized Van's Pig Stand a few times over the years. The food was never great and french fries always dripping in grease. However, my recent experience has been so bad I'm going to leave this review. My wife went to Van's Pig stand to bring home a pulled pork sandwich and fries. Yes, the fries were still dripping with grease, so I immediately sidelined them. I lifted the top of the bun to inspect the meat, and it was SO gross I had my wife throw all of it away. The "meat" was almost all fat with connective tissue on the sandwich. There is no excuse for an eatery to serve what dogs might eat (or not)! So, unless you like this kind of crap for a sandwich, I would suggest you find a different restaurant for a pulled pork sandwich. My experience at Van's seems so unlike the experiences had by most of the reviewers. Did I even go to the same place as the rest of you? Looking at some of the posted pictures, I think I may have been gypped on my order. I was still hungry after it was all said and done. Also, the ribs were really... bland. They certainly weren't the highlight of my meal. I'm sorry all my OU friends, don't hurt me! The sides were good, the bread is... bread, and the BBQ sauce is amazing. I just felt like I paid $8.00+ for very little food, which I would have excused if it was delicious. My first time here and I'm super impressed. Had the ribs and the meat just came off the bone with no effort. Nice char on the outside, just enough to add some smokey goodness to the meat. I grew up in Oklahoma and Van's was part of my life. It has actually become the standard by which I measure every other BBQ experience. (And every time I have BBQ somewhere else I say, "Well, it isn't Van's...") The Beans were above average, but all-in-all I was hoping for more. The setting is just what you'd expect and I'll try again and see if I get a different result. I had Ribs and Brisket on this visit and the Ribs were tender and came off the bone clean, but just ok on seasoning. The Brisket was a bit dry, although good for a sandwich or with something to add a little moisture. I have gotten chewy ribs, way too fatty brisket, and bologna, I'm not sure if it was smoked after the expiration date, tastes really weird today 3/6/21. I used to really like Van's. I ordered it on Postmates tonight. I got the 1/2 rack rib dinner and the meat was over cooked and tough. Like it had been sitting for a really long time. I also got the smoked spud which was well cooked but it was falling apart so I had to mash it up in the styrofoam. It was supposed to have butter and sour cream and cheese. They filled the 2 oz containers about 1/3 of the way full. They included no silverware or salt and pepper. Maybe this was a 1 off experience but... it's was not good.
