I've come back a few times since the reopening, the service has always been subpar and the food decent (but okay, that level of service is almost expected in Miami). My likely final visit went as follows. Walked in to an empty, bar for one occupied table, restaurant on a weekday at 18:50. Five minutes go by and still no waiter, ask the hostess and another five minutes later the waitress comes by. We want to order a glass of wine for happy hour which ends at 19:00. Waitress looks down at her point of sale tool and says "awww sorry, you are a minute late." I told her that we've been waiting for ten minutes, she says she will go check with the manager, 5 minutes go by and she is still not back. I've heard really good things about this place, but when i went it wasn't it. The pasta i ordered was way over cooked but was delicious otherwise. The service was horrible. The woman judged everything i ordered and when we were done she pilled all the plates at our table and left them there. Of course that was just bad luck for getting a server like that. Cons: It's now a sit-down restaurant and no longer has the walk-up option to order and watch them prep your meal. You now have to go to the bar to order, and they try to automatically add 18% service charge. Took half an hour to order and receive pasta. Overall, food is still great but more expensive. The original Vapiano is actually located in Germany. My friend who ate at the original Vapiano attests that the quality of Vapiano Miami is on par with Vapiano Germany. This is also my second time at Vapiano Miami and I can tell you that the quality of the food has been consistent. Vapiano is known for its pasta and its semi-upscale dining experience. It is a place where poor students like me can afford to be fancy without poking a hole in my wallet. Most pasta is about $12-$16, so the price is very reasonable. I ordered the frutto di mare with linguini, which is seafood pasta with scallop, shrimp, and salmon. The flavors exploded inside my mouth and I was just left in awe with each bite. The pasta was very heavy. If you are a light eater, you will probably feel full after 3-4 bites. Nonetheless, the pasta still taste just as good if you take it back home and eat it the next day. The concept of Vapiano is awesome, especially for groups. Upon entering each person/party is given a card which you can use throughout the night to order your drinks and your food. Say goodbye to that awkward splitting of the check at the end of the night with a party of 10+ (which is what we were last night). Vapiano offers pizza, pasta, risotto and other Italian favorites all made to order in front of you! I started at the bar before I perused the menu and had super friendly service there. On a Saturday night they had happy hour until close which meant $3.95 glasses of wine - whaaaaat! I opted for a Tito's and soda, but made note of hh for future visits. Do you have to close out? Nope. You just swipe your card and its added to your tab. Super easy. Now onto the food. We were a large group and had the upstairs area reserved for our party. It was really convenient to be able to order at your leisure as folks were coming in and out to our celebration throughout the night. I was feeling pasta - so I went with my favorite Pasta Carbonara. You can pick your pasta and I chose tagliatele. Swipe of the card again and my pasta was on its way. The nice gentleman asked me what heat level I wanted the pasta and I went with medium. Two minutes later, I had fresh carbonara! YUM. It was absolutely delicious - so much so that various friends kept taking bites of my food. Not a problem tho, because the portion was huge. I had bites of other plates throughout the nightm too .The lasagna was just ok - too meaty for my taste. The four cheese pizza was OUTSTANDING. My favorite place for pasta in Miami!! The staff are friendly, and the chefs love to joke around - their cheerful positive energy is contagious! Rather than a sit-down restaurant, you order at the counter and the food is made fresh right in front of you. My personal favorite is the Pesto Basillico pasta, but would also recommend the Crema de Fungi and Salmon Carbonara pastas! They also offer nonpasta options like risotto and pizza, and there are vegetarian options available. The desserts are also fantastic, which you can get at the bar located near the entrance. Their tiramisu is good - more of a parfait-style (more cream less cake). And bonus: instead of mints, there is a jar of gummy bears that you can help yourself to on your way out! I used to go their Bethesda location in Maryland when my mom lived there, so I was so happy when i heard a Brickell location had opened. Unique concept: You walk in and they give you a card, you go up to any of the serving areas, choose what you want and charge it on the card, once the food is done you get it yourself and take it to your table, once done you "check out" on the way out, they run your card and you pay the table. The food consists of Pizzas, Pastas, Rissottos, Appetizers, salads. You can order the type of pastas you want from a menu and select the noodle and sauce you want. I love their beef Carpaccio. Once you order the main dish they will also offer fresh bread for you while you wait. I ordered the pesto Fusilli and it was delicious, perfectly al dente with fresh pinenuts and cheese. You can seat yourself at the tables, they have high tops, regular size tables and a bar section. All sitting areas have live herb plants and olive oil. There is also a full bar which also has desserts, same concept of order whatever you want and put it on your tab (card). I very much liked this Miami location, beautiful restaurant, very swanky looking. The staff was super friendly and the restaurant is easily accessible from the street or indoor garage. They have an overinflated method of calculating the tip. It's happened to me 3 times already. My check was $17.00 + 1.19 (7% tax) total: $18.19. Tip 20% should be $3.64 on $18.19. Was charged $4.67! I am so disappointed with my visit to this Vapiano location. This has been on my top five all time restaurants for years and when I heard they reopened after closing during the pandemic, I was thrilled to return. Our server was very friendly and attentive however, I am so disgusted and turned off that this restaurant allows PETS to roam about the restaurant where patrons such as myself are enjoying their meals. And not just a small breed of dog, giant golden retriever or poodle dogs. That is insane, and not to mention unsanitary and super inconsiderate. The manager came to my family to address our discomfort with the situation, but all they did was offer to move OUR family and give us a free dessert instead of actually resolving the real issue, which is putting the PETS back outside where it belongs. Do not like the new management, effective April 2019. Vapiano is now only open 11:30AM - 4PM Monday thru Thursday...they go all out by staying open until 7:30PM on Friday thru Sunday. They are well known in Europe and recently have opened two restaurants in Miami (Brickell and most recently Doral) bringing their unique concept to South Florida What do I mean by unique? Well when you walk in you are given a card which is your ticket to the food and drinks area. The card acts as your payment card. Once you get the card there are various stations which serve pizza and pasta Once you look over the menu you are ready to order. I personally always order the chicken risotto with Gorgonzola. What I love about this is that all the dishes are made to order and right in front of you so you see everything. Also you have the option of requesting the spicy level from 1-10, 10 of course being the spiciest. Once you order the food, you take the card you were given at the entrance and press it against a magnetic screen which records your order While you wait for the food you are given fresh Italian bread to nibble on. The smell of all the different ingredients into the pastas overwhelm the senses and make you want more The risotto never disappoints, with the Gorgonzola and the spices mixed in. My first question is why don't more places function like this? It seems so simple: walk in and grab a card, head to different stations (think salad, pasta, pizza) to construct your meal, sit down with friends, enjoy, and pay on the way out! Unlike a traditional cafeteria, you can take your time and order dishes (and multiple drink rounds) without having to close out each time. We started at the bar where I got what they described as an "Italian mojito." It was alright but I prefer the glass of house red I got a little later. These, along with Peroni on draft, were on happy hour special for only $3, even at 8pm on a Saturday. I knew I wanted pasta so went with a seasonal special, the pasta vitello, but they were out of its namesake veal, so I got beef instead. You can pick the type of pasta you get so I chose parppadelle which I thought would complement the sauce well. Wow! Within minutes they whipped it up in front of me and it was a hearty portion of pasta and sauce that I simply couldn't stop devouring. I also got a side salad which I'd order next time but with the dressing on the side as it definitely drowned the lettuce. And the cheesecake... Oh man, the cheesecake. It's arguably my favorite dessert in the world and this was pure NY cheesecake that reminded me of some of the best slices I've had in the city. This place is A CONCEPT. Avant-grade. Millennial dream. But honestly, it's just perfect, hip, creative, and most importantly - yum! The decor of this place is spectacular. There's a red theme with wooden furniture, large windows, plants inside the restaurant. There are various seating styles - cozy to group settings with long tables or square ones. There is a bar option and they often make the drinks strong (without the cost). The food: I usually get fusilli pasta in pink sauce with shrimp. It's amazing! Comes out to around $14. They cook it in front of you and it's a part of the whole experience. The vibe is that hey...here's a cool chef cooking in your kitchen your favorite Italian dish just in case you can't. The food is so well cooked and spiced. Well-balanced in terms of flavor. It's a self-serve restaurant so you get to choose what you want. Very rare for anything you choose to taste bad.
