Let me start by saying I'm not usually a fan of Tex-Mex... but this place has officially made a liar out of me! Our server, Sean, was excellent--proficient, quick, and completely on top of things without being overly chatty. We started with the queso loaded with ground beef, and it was spot-on: not overly cheesy, just perfectly balanced. Their jalapeño ranch might even edge out Chuy's (and that's saying something!). My wife and I shared the superior fajitas. The steak was cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and practically melted in your mouth. It tore apart easily in the tortilla. My Fresita margarita struck the ideal balance: tart with just the right sweet undertones, not cloying at all. Even the corn tortillas impressed me (I'm usually not a fan)--they were light, held together beautifully, and lacked that grainy texture. We tried brunch at Vaqueros in Steiner Ranch for the first time and it completely exceeded our expectations. If you're in Austin, it's absolutely worth the drive out to Steiner Ranch. The quality of the food really stands out. Everything tasted fresh, premium, and thoughtfully prepared. You can tell they take pride in their ingredients and presentation. One dish that really impressed us was the chicken piccata, it was amazing. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and easily one of the standout items we tried. They also offer bottomless mimosas for $25 per person, which is a great deal and perfect for a relaxed weekend brunch. Brunch runs from 10:30 AM to 2 PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy it. The desserts were fantastic too. We tried the banana pudding and tres leches, and both were delicious. A special shoutout to Liston, who provided amazing service. Friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Between the great food, drinks, service, and atmosphere, this place easily earns five stars. This was my first time here, My friend and I arrived around 5:30 p.m. for an early dinner and to check out the happy hour specials. The views from this restaurant are spectacular! They have patio seating and there's a big fireplace out on the patio as well! When we arrived there was no wait and we were sseated immediately. Our server came to the table within a few minutes of being seated. We were given complimentary chips, salsa And their version of creamy jalapeno dip. Very good! Happy hour lasted until 6:00 p.m. so we were able to get a glass of wine for $8 and an appetizer, The queso with beef. Margaritas are only $7. I hear those are the star of the show, But it's a work night lol. Our server was friendly and super attentive. There was so much to choose from on the menu But I was craving an enchilada with rice and beans so I was able to order them a la carte instead of one of the big meals. The rice and Charo beans were really good, I did like the enchilada but it was a bit too salty for me and super cheesy which was okay with me :) My friend really enjoyed the taco salad with salsa. I specifically told the waiter I had a gluten allergy, and even called ahead twice to double check on your gluten free options and ability to handle food allergy issues. I ended up getting sick and will be vomiting from the cross contamination and exposure to gluten. I do not recommend your restaurant for anyone with food allergies especially celiac. Wish you all the best but please take food allergies and food allergy warnings seriously. American restaurants ability to handle people with food allergies is abhorrent. read more

I take my grandkids here once a week after school. The food is always good and the portions are generous. My 7yo grandson is obsessed. AI with the queso and the Mac and cheese which I think is also made with the queso (which is even more genius than it seems). If you get Sandra as a server consider yourself blessed. The restaurant is very clean and has good parking. The hostess is nice and welcoming. I love this location because it is so quiet and peaceful outside. The seating is well layed out and not cramped! We came to Vaqueros to do happy hour at the bar. The salsa they brought out was not fresh, it was thick and an odd consistency. Their salsa just isn't good or fresh and that set the precedent for the rest of the meal. We ordered margaritas on the rocks, also not great. The mix they use is too sweet and artificial. They also aren't strong. Maybe my standards are high because we frequent Santa Catarina and they actually make them good there. Anyway we ordered queso, taquitos, jalapeño poppers and some beef tacos. The chicken inside the taquitos was ok but kind of mushy. The queso was good at least. I will say the beef tacos were great. A little greasy but the flavor was great and this is the only thing I would recommend here. Overall it was so mediocre at best and I would not return - especially with so may better options in the area. read more

First time to Vaquero's Cafe & Cantina in Steiner Ranch, celebrating a family birthday during happy hour. Enrique was our man behind the bar, and he did a fantastic job! Thank you Sir! Happy hour is a pretty good deal, $7 house margaritas and 1/2 price appetizers. The margaritas were good. The last one we shared was the Volcanrita, a frozen top-shelf margarita (after HH) add that was the best one of the evening! The food was good too... the complimentary chips came with salsa and creamy jalapeno sauce, both were very good. We added an order of the queso supremo (queso loaded with refried beans guacamole, crema, pico de gallo and cotija cheese, and we added ground beef), and that was good as well. Food, round two, was jalapeno poppers. The poppers were served piping hot (perfect) with chipotle crema. Very tasty! Next up chicken taquitos... stuffed with cheese as well, and served with regular queso, pico and sour cream. We did not care for the regular queso, the queso supremo was better. Overall, the taquitos were a good choice, also served piping hot, and very tasty. We were not as excited about the botana nachos which came out next. First, not really nachos, think tostada, cut into quarters. We added beef. They arrived bit over cooked. The beef was good, and the dish came with the usual suspects, lettuce, pico, guacamole, sliced jalapenos, sour cream. Overall, Vaquero's was good! New place, new building, all nice and shiny. The decor is pretty cool! Service rocked, food was decent. A solid 4-star performance. We'll likely go back and try some non-happy hour fare. We watched a lot of that coming out of the kitchen, it looked very good, and smelled even better! Recommend Vaquero's...
