Close up of the Chicken Tinga Taco

My husband and I stopped by Vaquero Taquero on our ride today. We drove up, parked, and waited in line at the ordering window. While in line I tried to decide what I wanted. Once it was our turn at the window a nice guy took our order. He asked us what we wanted, wrote down our order, we paid and then he told us it would take about 20 minutes. We were fine with waiting as we found a shaded place to sit under the umbrellas in the outdoor seating area. The seating area wasn't very big as it was a few park bench tables with umbrellas but it worked. People came and went as they got their food or they sat and ate in the shade in the seating area as we did. It took about 30 minutes before we got our food but it was worth the wait. For my food, I ordered the Nopales Taco and the Chicken Tinga Taco. Both tacos were made fresh, very good and full of flavor. The Nopales Taco took me back to my childhood and reminded me of my Grandmother's Nopales. The Tinga Taco was just as good and all of the chicken which was filling. Overall it was a great place to stop. The food is delicious and the tacos are fresh and flavorful. We will return when in the future when in the area.

Great breakfast tacos, love the sauces. Scootered over here from my hotel. Service is a bit lacking at the window. Unassuming location but tacos were decent.

Located at the corner of a residential street close to campus, Vaquero Taquero is a quaint taco shop that fits the Austin vibe. You order at the window, and the seating is all outdoors. I had two breakfast tacos: the bacon, egg, and cheese, and the potato, egg, and cheese. I enjoyed the tacos, especially the tortillas, which had a thin and chewy texture. The eggs were over hard and intact, which I thought was unique. The sauces were good, and one of them was spicy, although my friend and I didn't know which one it was. I would say the tacos were a little small for the $4 price as I've had other breakfast tacos in Austin that were bigger for the same price.

3.5/5 This taco shop it is right in the middle of a college campus. I feel like the high reviews are mainly by the crowd. I felt like overall the meat was not properly season, cooked in the Carne Asada taco. The elements of the chicken taco were great and the Nopales wasn't anything special. We did not try the Al Pastore as they did not have it in stock that day. Also, one thing to know about this place is that they are decent size tacos for the price that you were getting.

One of my new favorite spots. Incredible pastor taco, one of the best I've ever had. Quick service too, and not too busy. Residential quiet area near the university, which was nice to walk around afterwards. Strongly, strongly recommended!

This place is def worth it. Simple menu but everything on it is well done! I ordered two breaks tacos the chorizo and egg and the charro beans and cheese. The chorizo and eggs good but the charro beans and cheese was perfection could eat 5 of them. I also ordered the Al Pastor and it was good just wish it was a bit more flavorful. The Mexican mocha was is excellent but I wish they had horchata.

Stopped by here on a weekday morning to grab some breakfast tacos and coffee next door and it did not disappoint! I ordered the Charro Beans and Cheese Taco and Nopales Tacos with egg on corn tortillas. Both tacos were filled to the brim with filling and the corn tortillas were some of my favorite that I've had. Don't know if they make these in house like the flour tortillas, which I'll have to get a try of next time. My friend ate the charro beans and said it was super flavorful. The Nopales and egg taco isn't seasoned so it pairs nicely with the Salsa Verde (which does have a bit of a kick!). Service was very friendly and relatively quick.

Service left something to be desired but hey, the tacos were superrrr bomb. The Al pastor was so juicy and tasty! Then napoles was to die for (excellent tasty cactus). The steak was okay, would've preferred more pastor.

When Vaquero Taquero first opened, their food was really good. It was wonderful and oh, so convenient to be able to satisfy our taco cravings within walking distance of home. Fast forward to present day. We had a hankering for tacos and realized we hadn't eaten at Vaquero since the city first shutdown due to Covid last year. Ordered a batch of our favorite al pastor tacos. Got home (two minutes' drive) only to find they were already cold. The flour tortillas tasted odd...slimy would best describe them. Sounds weird, I know. How can tortillas be slimy? The meat was a tad dry. On the positive side, our order was nicely plated, and the pineapple, lime, cilantro and onion were fresh and looked vibrant. Hmmm, not sure what's happened to our neighborhood joint. After our latest disappointing experience, I guess we'll be venturing further for our taco cravings.

Excellent tacos and salsas--everything was packed with flavor! I also tried the guacamole with chips, which was just as good. The food came out quickly, fresh, and hot. While there's no indoor seating, they offer comfortable outdoor seating with umbrellas. The food quality, service, and fresh ingredients were all top-notch. If you're a taco lover, this place is a must-visit!

These tacos are amazing! The flour tortillas are soooo fresh. The Al pastor was delicious with the fresh pineapple. The breakfast taco was unbelievably good and I don't usually like eggs in tacos. The students who live nearby are lucky?

Small place on a corner with a couple of tables to sit. Service is nice and quick. Tacos al pastor al flavorful. Could use a little more protein to fill the tortilla. Their green sauce is delicious and mildly spicy. I also had a campechana that was good but it was at best lukewarm warm when served. It had a nice cheese crust and the flavor was there.

Cauntos Tacos was recommended to me by my BF, and we decided to go all in with the "1 of Each Kind"…read moremenu option. Boy, am I glad we did this--it was the perfect way to try a little bit of everything and compare favorites side by side. Sauderos - One of my top choices. Great texture and flavor with a nice richness to it. That said, carnitas and longaniza still edged it out for me. Cachete - Almost felt like a milder cousin to the carnitas. I personally preferred the milkier flavor profile of the carnitas, but this was still delicious and incredibly satisfying. Buche - Softer and mushier than I would typically like in a meat filling, but the flavor itself was undeniably good. Texture held it back a bit for me. Carnitas - A classic milkiness that's genuinely hard to beat. Rich, comforting, and probably one of my favorite carnitas I've had so far. Definitely a standout. Longaniza - I've never really been a chorizo person... until now. This completely changed my mind. Deep red color, intensely meaty flavor, rich without being overwhelming--easily one of my favorites of the bunch. Champiñones - More flavorful and spicier than I expected. The mushrooms had a pleasantly chewy texture instead of turning mushy, which I appreciated a lot. Great mushroom flavor overall. Revuelta - Not actually on the menu, but something we personally requested. Delicious combination of meats, though tasting everything back-to-back made this one come across a bit saltier. Still, the pairing worked really well and made for a satisfying bite. The sauces deserve a mention too. The green sauce packed noticeably more heat and leaned herbaceous, while the red sauce had a beautiful smokiness that completely won both my best friend and me over. Service was honestly one of the fastest and most efficient I've seen from a food truck. Everything moved quickly and smoothly despite the steady flow of people. My only real downside had nothing to do with the food itself--I hated standing outside at 8 PM dealing with bugs while eating, but that's more the nature of the setup than the fault of the truck. Overall, I was genuinely impressed by the meat quality and how distinct each taco felt from the next. Carnitas and longaniza were the clear winners for me, but there honestly wasn't a bad taco in the lineup.

5 Stars - So Good, Worth the Hype…read more We finally tried Cuantos Tacos and wow... it absolutely lived up to the hype. Food: The tacos were incredible--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can taste the quality right away. Everything was seasoned perfectly, and the tortillas tasted fresh and authentic. We tried a few different tacos and honestly didn't have a single miss. Simple menu, but done really, really well. Service: Service was friendly and efficient. Even with a line, things moved quickly and the staff were welcoming and patient. You can tell they know what they're doing and take pride in the food. Ambiance: It has that fun Austin food-truck vibe--casual, lively, and a little busy, but in a good way. It feels like one of those places locals love and keep coming back to. Overall: Easy five stars. Amazing tacos, great service, and a cool atmosphere. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to again and again.

I ordered 2 steak tacos and horchata, both very delicious. The horchata is milky and sweet but not crazy sweet, and topped off with cinnamon. The steak tacos came out pretty hot, fresh from the grill. I got them on corn tortillas and I'm glad I did: idk if they make them in house but somebody in some house is making these because they definitely aren't store bought, and if they are I want to know where! I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak. They have a little bar, too, though I did not imbibe this time. Seems like they have a decent selection of agave spirits, and even Campari behind the bar (iykyk).
