Try the Americano Style Tacos with mahimahi! It's better than the fish tacos I tried in Hawaii two weeks ago. (Oops on Hawaii's part.) The Baja Style tacos were good, but I wanted to try it with mahimahi next time. I wasn't a big fan of the carnitas. At the former Quince location, we decided to try it out. I was surprised it was dead on a Friday night. My husband and I split the chicken blue corn enchiladas and daughter had the kids cheese quesadilla. The food came out in 5 minutes and the enchilada plate was scalding hot. My husband and I just looked at each other. Can you say microwave? When we began to eat the enchiladas, the insides were lukewarm. I was pretty irritated. I found it to have good flavor but it wasn't that hot. My daughter's enchilada was flavorless and had a burnt taste to it. We also ordered the guacamole. My husband thought it was bland. He and I liked the table salsa and I am always a fan of the paper thin tortilla chips. The chips and salsa were the only redeeming quality though on the food. The only thing keeping me from rating this place with one star was that I liked the atmosphere and service was good. Whether this is a true or not, after this experience, one of the local business owners said that no one in town goes here. Maybe this place is just having some growing pains. read more

This place was amazing. The inside is so bright and beautiful. The food and drink are delicious. The staff is knowledgeable and very polite witha good sense of humor. I ordered a navajo taco. It was seasoned well, was fresh and The presentation was nice. Guacamole was great. Very accomadating to my dairy allergy. Lovely restaurant. Big menu, huge portions as you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. Really liked the bright and colorful decor. Salsa is delicious! If you check in on yelp, you get free chips and salsa. Would have liked to rate 4.5/5 but isn't an option. I go to Jerome on a consistent basis, but had never tried Vaquero's until recently. I really enjoyed my whole experience. The place was packed when we walked in so we took a seat at the bar. Our bartender/waitress was the only server on that night so I wasn't sure if it would take longer than usual. Well, that was definitely not the case and she was amazing! She made our drinks right away, dinner came out quickly, and it was delicious. I got a veggie quesadilla which is simple, but I thought it was really delicious and flavorful. This is now one of my favorite places to eat in Jerome and I will definitely return next time I am in town. read more

Vaquero's Grill & Cantina After an incredibly breathtaking drive Mingus Mountain on Route 89A we stopped on the downhill side in the quaint town of Jerome, AZ and decided to eat at Vaquero's. There was so much bright charm in the decor that there was no way I could take pictures of it all. The tables and chairs alone are bright, vibrant colors that are a feast for the eyes. Each table and chair features a unique picture that goes to both the ghost town theme as well as a Southwest Mexican restaurant motif. We arrived around 4:00; just before the dinner crowd. We were greeted by our server, Lisa and seated right away. Jokingly, I stated that I expected a truly exceptional meal experience. I asked if we could expect genuine Mexican cuisine or an Americanized fascimile. Lisa, picking up on my humor, assured us that we would not be disappointed. She even introduce the owner, Luis, who was behind the bar and informed us that Luis himself either prepared or supervised each and every meal. Lisa provided great service throughout our meal. She appeared to be the only server and she didn't miss a step as more tables began to fill up. We noticed the additional patrons and no less attentive service even as Lisa handled the other diners. Our meals were phenomenal. I think the chips were made on site. They certainly tasted fresh even though I like them with a little more salt. There were three dips; a mild salsa, a spicy chipotle sauce, and the best guacamole I have ever, ever eaten. The guacamole was extremely fresh and featured pomegranate seeds on top; a tart and tasteful twist that added an unexpected texture. Lisa explained that Vaquero's likes to source local ingredients and that the pomegranates were from a nearby supplier. The entrees were super tasty. There were four of us and we all sampled each other's meals. Here is my rundown. Fish Tacos - I am not a fish taco fan at all. For whatever reason I keep trying them. The fish tacos at Vaquero's are flavorful and delicious. I would absolutely order them again. Diablo Shrimp - I ate four of these jumbo shrimp served in the Diablo sauce. There looked to be about 20 or so shrimp in this selection. It seemed to be a tomato based sauce darkened and flavor enhanced by chipotle. It looked great and tasted even better. The spice note were perfect; just an enhancement without drowning out the true flavor of the shrimp. One of my friends selected the Chicken-Fried Rice. It looked so fresh that I wish I had ordered it as my entree. The rice had a lighter flavor than most other "fried" rice dishes. It wasn't overly fluffy nor was it fried too hard. The chicken was just a tad over-cooked but it was seasoned and seared so perfectly that I could forgive it being so slightly overdone. My least favorite of our choices was the Chipotle Shrimp. It was served in a cream style sauce enhanced by chipotle seasoning. It was really very tasty; just my least favorite at our table. Other than the Chicken-Fried rice all of our meals came with a small crispy tortilla with the most incredible black beans and a crumbled Mexican cheese; a scoop of their heavenly guacamole; and that delicious rice laced with roasted corn. If you find yourself in Sedona, AZ then take the short scenic drive to Jerome, AZ to enjoy a great meal at Vaquero's Grill & Cantina. Like Lisa said, "You will not be disappointed!" read more

This is our second time to the to the restaurant, and always really good food and tasty. Carly and Ignacio we're great hosts to talk with and the food just seems to be getting better and better. We prefer this restaurant in Jerome over restaurants in Cottonwood or Sedona. A great place to stop in have a shot of tequila, have some salsa and chips, and then a great entree with it. Don't forget to order sopapilla's plain, with your honey and sugar on the side. Whipped cream is not part of traditional sopapilla that originated in Albuquerque New Mexico. read more

I didn't know there was a requirement to be psychic before entering. No sign asking customers to wait to be seated, waiter saw us walk in and just stood there looking at us, so we sat down. He then proceeded to walk up to us with menus and a pissy attitude, asking if we knew they had a waiting list. No sport, we didn't see a sign and we're not psychic. And I guess seeing THAT MANY empty tables was NOT the right way to estimate availability. Maybe if that server had some basic customer service skills, or not come in if he was having a bad day, we would've risked them screwing with our food. Given the circumstances, the waiter made us feel totally unwelcome, and we decided to leave. Totally writing this place off for good. read more

Good food, festive decor, prime downtown location! We were starving after exploring the charming downtown and in need for some nourishment. The margarita and cantina display drew us in. The vibrant decor is a bit over the top but it fits the festive theme of the restaurant. I ordered the Baja style Mahi Mahi tacos with rice and beans. The fish was very moist and flavorful. I didn't really care for the oily sauce that came with it as it was way too salty. My boyfriend ordered the pork carnitas tacos which were equally delicious! The portions are definitely generous. We decided to drive to Jerome in the snow to take some pictures and get some lunch. We picked the Vaquero Grill and Cantina and what a pleasant surprise. We went with margaritas, with chips and guacamole. The margaritas and and food was great. we also had a wonderful time taking with our waiter, Martin. Well this place disappointed I had ordered the camarones a la diabla and honestly it tasted like shrimp in ketchup. Also my friend had ordered a carne asada quesadilla and he threw up at how awful it was. The staff is rude and acts like you are imposing on them. We asked if we could sit at a specific table and they simply looked at us and said "no". This place came up highly reviewed and was going to open at 1030am, well we waited outside and to no avail the place had employees bit not one acknowledged us waiting outside. UMM, I kind of like this place. The people and service was great, the place itself is cool. Some of the food however, not so good at least what we had. We could not even eat the beef Fajitas. The meat was low grade and tough as shoe leather! The guacamole on the other had was really good. Maybe it was an off day so I don't want to be too negative.
