I should have taken a hint when the entire restaurant was empty at lunch time, but I figured it was because Jerome is a small town. We ordered two kids chicken burritos and I got the chicken mole enchiladas. The chicken burrito was a single taco flour tortilla filled with plain unseasoned chicken. A single slice of cheese was melted on top of it. The chicken mole enchiladas were the same taco flour tortilla (x2) drenched in mole sauce that came out of a can. No flavor, no spice, nothing. This is probably in the bottom three restaurants that I have ever eaten at in my entire life. The rice and beans were worse than Taco Bell. Thank heavens we went to Haunted Hamburger for dinner and ate an amazing meal and forgot about this place that should be condemned just like the rustic old cars in Jerome. read more

We came to Jerome a few years ago, specifically to eat here. The first time we came, it was fantastic, the food, the margaritas, the service, the bright decor. So when we came back this year, we had to come here again. And again, it was delicious. The only thing is, is that this place is always busy and there was only 1 server (and i'm pretty sure he waited on us a few years ago). So we waited a while when we asked for extra salsa. But this server was killing it all by himself. He had to serve people at the bar, all of the tables, make all the drinks, clean the tables, etc. I got the spicy shrimp tacos. it came with a ton of shrimp and 2 huge tacos. They were so good, even though i was full, i continued to eat all of the tacos...they were too good to just leave on my plate! My boyfriend got the shrimp enchiladas and were just as good as my tacos. The decor is SO cool too. Very colorful and bright and fun!!! read more

While visiting Jerome, we walked past Vaqueros and made a decision to try it. We weRe glad we did! The restaurant is very visually appealing. Think Mexico Day of the Dead meets Tim Burton. Enjoy the art while you browse the rather large menu. Note, the day we visited, by checking in on Yelp, we received free chips and salsa. The salsa had a little heat to it, which I enjoyed very much. The " gringos" with us visiting from back East ordered the fajitas. They looked great and no portion was left over. I ordered the chicken tacos which came with rice and beans in a large portion size. Naturally, I ate all of it, as it was too good to leave. Our server was friendly and attentive. Worth a visit! read more

I loved this place. It's tiny but with a full bar and the waitress was really personable. I can't give full five stars because only half of us loved our food. My chicken mole enchiladas were some of the best I've had. The chicken tortilla soup was delicious. But the salad my daughter got did not match the description on the menu and although they offered something else, there was no attempt of accountability. And my husband thought his fajitas were the worst he's ever had. They did look more like a stringy beef stir fry than fajitas I'll have to admit. Kinda a bummer and we probably won't be back unless I sneak out on my own for more mole enchiladas. read more

If I could rate this place 0 stars I absolutely would. This place was TERRIBLE please if you're in Jerome don't even waste your time or money on this place. We came all the way from Portland, Oregon to visit family here in Arizona, we all made a trip to Jerome for the day, most restaurants were closed and Vaqueros was the only restaurant opened. We trusted google reviews and ended up giving the place a try, for starters service was terrible we were not sat at all we basically sat ourselves and the only waiter in the restaurant, some tall blonde dude. What he did do after we sat ourselves was basically throw some menus on our table and walk away , took his sweet time to even take out drink order. We ordered food, upon the foods arrived we noticed immediately the portion to price ratio was ridiculous, hubby got a plate of mole. EMBARRASSING to say the least basically served him thin ham slices with sauce and old beans that were literally disintegrated from overheating in the microwave with some nasty cheese on it. Most edible thing we even ate were some fries and our drinks. overall food was disgusting, bland, overpriced and employees were unprofessional and rude. Found this little hole in the wall as we were walking around. Most restaurants in the area were on a long wait. We were able to walk in and be seated. The places is very small. There were several dirty tables. The gentlemen working was doing everything but cooking. They definitely could have used one more set of hands as simple things like getting a glass of water were continuously overlooked. Salsa was amazing! Drinks were great! Food was excellent! Great Mexican restaurant with a beautiful view of the Verde Valley, provided that you sit by the window. Margaritas are not lame; rather, they are kick a$$! Had the spinach queso dip and it was amazing--spicy and flavorful. (It doesn't just burn your tongue.) Chips are fresh and hot and not at all greasy. Shrimp fajitas are to die for. Food was delicious and drinks were huge! Everyone I went with loved their food. Great selection of tequilas. I got the tortilla soup and the broth was amazing. Others got the flautas, a torta, nachos, and enchiladas. The salsa that comes with the free chips was great too Service was sort of slow, but only because there was just two servers -- so no hate because those two were working super hard on a very busy day, were friendly, and took good care of us regardless. I used to love going to this restaurant, the last two times Martin the waiter and has made our visit/experience horrible. Not only is he short with you but he cuts you off. He throws your plates and silverware at you on the table, you have to ask him for his attention to give your order and ask for drink refills. I took my in-laws and wife there yesterday and I'll never be going or taking anyone there. I'll make sure to tell everyone I know in the Tri-city area about this ridiculous/horrible service. read more

I had heard about this place, so we decided to drive up from Prescott and try it. I'm glad we did. I've eaten Mexican food all over the country, from California to Arizona to New Mexico to Texas. This is one of my all-time favorites. Best chile relleno I've ever had, the mole was beautiful, everything else.....the beans, the salsa, the warm chips.....fantastic. There was a local celebrity in the place, and the one-man-show waiter was all over him, but was very curt with us. I guess he knows which side his bread was buttered on. Try the Americano Style Tacos with mahimahi! It's better than the fish tacos I tried in Hawaii two weeks ago. (Oops on Hawaii's part.) The Baja Style tacos were good, but I wanted to try it with mahimahi next time. I wasn't a big fan of the carnitas. Lastly, the Vequeros Tacos, in my opinion, is a better version of Navajo Tacos!! p.s. Great chips & salsa! We asked for a second serving. (Complementary.) p.p.s. They offer local Arizona wines!
