I was in the market for car a few months ago and while looking I stopped at Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor although I lived in Riverview nearly 40 miles way. I met Matt Vodry their salesperson and before I left I was the owner of a new Edge. Fantastic car, fantastic price, fantastic service. When I needed my first oil change which they provided free and got a tire rotation, I went back and even more surprised. The work was done immediately they fixed a door alignment that was closing funny and in 1.5 hour I was back on the road and didn't spend one dime. I never used to enjoy the acquisition process for getting a new vehicle until I started going to Varsity Ford. A couple weeks ago my husband and I went in to lease new vehicles and it was a great experience yet again. Just bought our second car from Varsity Ford, a 2015 Ford CMax. I don't think we have ever bought two cars from the same dealership before, so that is pretty telling in and of itself that they have been great to work with, both in sales and service. I recently picked up my 2012 Fusion from the Varsity Ford service department. I have had the vehicle at 2 other dealerships multiple times who were unsuccessful in completing the repair (a rattle coming from the engine compartment which was very annoying). Varsity was able to successfully diagnose and fix the repair making for a very happy customer. read more

I bought a 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan from Varsity Ford in September of 2010 and I couldn't be happier. Our salesman, Noel Walsh, was wonderful. He was helpful and knowledgeable, but in no way high pressure. My husband and I were able to take two cars out for test drives without the salesman having to come along. I have had the car for about three months now and I love it. And it was very reasonably priced for a good new car. I had a good experience buying a car at this dealership as the sales person (Brian) came up to me and asked if he could help and he did as I bought a new Taurus. I've been to other dealers where you have to throw a stick at the salesperson to get his attention and it can be very frustrating. I've had 3 separate awful experiences at Varsity Ford. Once with their sales staff and twice with their service staff. I have never had any issues with other Ford dealers, but this one makes me want to abandon Ford all together. Most recently, I was denied service because of "comments made on social media" that I made about my poor treatment on my last visit. I was told the denial of service came "from above" and that I wasn't able to speak with anyone about it. This is not how you treat customers. read more

On 3 occasions the car was promised but not ready. Each time I had to initiate communication. The delays and length of time for the repairs (more than 3 weeks) and having to procure alternate transportation put a heavy burden on my family. I was very disappointed by the lack of courtesy shown in not keeping me informed in a timely manner and the lack of concern for my inconvenience. read more

I take all three of our vehicles to Varsity and I can't say enough how much I appreciate the service dept. not suggesting "repairs" should be done if it's not necessary-they actually do the opposite! Woke up this morning to find a tire was flat-put some air in and drove to varsity. No appointment but they took me right in, shuttled me to work, replaced the tire and since I was due offered to provide 20,000 mile service, did an oil change and tire rotation as well. I have 2 cars purchased here, from Jerry Carpenter. This time it was my 2011 Escape, with a faulty heater / A/C switch and not so cold air. Also needed an oil change and tire rotation. The service was exceptional. While it was supposed to be 1/2 day repair, they kept it overnite. I would much prefer the techs take the time to do the job right, which they did. Everyone was friendly and professional. I got the car back all washed up and in perfect running order. That's exactly what I want. read more

Took my 2014 Escape in for an oil change a couple weeks ago. Had been having a problem with tire pressure in rear tire. They found a nail & fixed it. Also needed brake work done, so took the car in again last week and on the way the tire light went on! Rob V. took care of me, they did all the work on the brakes and found another nail in the tire and did not charge me for plugging that, which I appreciated. Costs were as quoted for the work done. The work took longer than I was told but it was not a problem for us. It would have been if I was waiting, however. We always got our cars from Palmer Ford in Chelsea but now that they are gone, we have been very happy with Varsity. Plus some of the guys from Palmer's are at Varsity, which we like. read more

We had a wonderful purchasing and after-sale service experience on our new Fusion Energi we leased in last month. Sales representative Debbie Treharne demonstrated great professionalism and patience in every step of the process. She provided us significant assistances from pre-sale consultation to the first lease payment. What impressed us the most is how she handled a recent incident of this new car. In 29 April lunch time on the way to Gym, I noticed some noises from the rear brakes and I called Debbie for consultation. She advised me to contact Ford Road Service and at the meantime she mobilized Varsity team with lightning speed. In particular, the General Manager Matthew Stanford immediately dropped what he was doing and sent a technician with a loaner car to me (in the Gym lot!) and took the new car back to Varsity for evaluation. When I walked out the Gym building and found the same technician was waiting for me at the door with the key of the new car in his hand. He explained to me the issue was due to a tiny piece of road rock trapped between brake pad and rotor. Varsity service department cleaned up the system and tested the vehicle to assure there is no any brake surface damage. All of these happened within a couple of hours (I even did not have time to enjoy the loaner car!) We were completely touched and moved by these five-stars, first-class customer service we fortunately received. We are enjoying the new Fusion Energi with great pleasure! We highly recommend Varsity Ford to our family and friends as their first choice to go for their car buying and service. read more

If I were writing this review a 15 years ago, Varsity Ford would be lucky to get 1/2 a star; they were rude, took forever to get service completed and ordered the wrong parts a LOT (at one point they ordered the SAME WRONG PART for a single repair three times in a row!). We lived about 3 miles from Varsity and traveled 15 miles to Palmer Ford in Chelsea rather than deal with them. But Palmer closed and we gave Varsity another try. As you can see, I'm giving it a pretty good rating today. I got my new CMAX Energi (plug-in hybrid) at Varsity 4 months ago. The salesman, Brian Johnston, was great ... very personable and interested in getting us exactly the vehicle we wanted. He was very familiar with the vehicle and all the possible choices to make, and explained them simply and concisely. I thought we'd have to order the car and wait, but he found the exact car we wanted in Lansing while we waited (not long), retrieved it and had it available for pick up within 3 days of first walking in the door. When the car was delivered, he took at least an hour with us in the car explaining how the various features work and orienting us to the vehicle. He has kept in contact even this far after the sale (even sent me a birthday card!) and recognizes me if he sees me around. I had a couple of recall items to be taken care of and the service guys were very friendly, but businesslike. They were amazed at my ave. MPG (161.5 MPG at the time .. yes, you read that correctly, one hundred sixty one miles per gallon) and discussed solar power with me for a few minutes (we use solar panels to recharge the batteries, making this a solar-gas hybrid ... very green!) He offered me a rental car before I even asked since it would have to stay overnight. The work was successfully completed and my car returned the next day, clean (which is almost miraculous, since I live on a dirt road) and ready to go. I admit to some lingering doubts based on long-past experiences, but my recent visits to Varsity have been very successful and pleasant. The only negative I would cite is that they are now SO concerned about their services that they ask for feedback too much. I don't mind filling out a customer feedback survey once in a while, but I've been sent at least 3 different surveys for the car purchase and one for the service. It is a bit annoying ... but not as bad as having the same wrong part ordered three times. It is small price to pay for an otherwise excellent dealership experience. read more

I dealt with Jerry in used cars and let me tell you this guy is a complete jerk! I drove 3 1/2 hours to look at a car that he assured me was a nice car without any issues. I specifically asked if the car had any dents, dings, or scraches. he told me this car is in very good condition. I then asked if it had any mechanical issues and I was told it is in great condition. Having a long drive I wanted to get a good idea of the condition of the car I was interested in.... After driving the 3 1/2 hours to see the car the first thing I see is the hail damage on the roof and hood. I point this out to him and his response is, " I don't see it." It was very noticable... Then he pressures me into signing the papers before I drive the car. Who in their right mind would spend 16k on a car and not drive it? After him giving me attitude for a minute he gives me the keys and says to not be long. The car smelled like it has been in a flood and water sat inside the car.. The smell was overwhelming. After driving for 10 minutes I noticed another weird smell. After I get back I pop the hood and it smelled like wires were heating up/ buring wire that we pin pointed to the fuse box under the hood. Needless to say I passed on this car and will never suggest him to anyone. I asked for another salesperson but he told me that nobody else was available. So at the end of the day this terrible salesperson cost me a 199 dollar loan processing fee (I had check in hand to buy this car) and 80 dollars in gas. If you get Jerry on the phone hang up and call back for another employee. Do not deal with him. read more

I had a very poor experience at Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor on 1/6/14. I was shopping for a newer used car and I conducted my search online because I have 4 titanium rods in my lower back and a spinal cord stimulator to manage pain; it is difficult for me to walk through car lots looking for a vehicle. I worked online all day with Jennifer Romej and provided the parameters for my search. I explained that I was looking to spend between $14 - $18,500 and that my payment would need to be between $230-$250 per month. She responded quickly and sent me links to 4 vehicles that she said "would fit these parameters". I quickly became interested in a 2011 Ford Flex so she asked me to do a credit app online which I completed within minutes. She then contacted me to say that "your credit is great" and "there will be no problem working this out within your buying parameters". She asked if I could come in for a test drive and I agreed; she said the vehicle would be ready when I arrived and she gave me the name of the sales person, Tom, and the used car manager, Brad Schneider. I arrived at the dealership 45 minutes later and was greeted by a guy wearing a flannel shirt (un-tucked) and worn jeans, I at first thought he was a customer. He didn't introduce himself (this was Brad Schneider, the used car sales manager) and pointed me down the hall to Tom. Neither of these men had any idea why I was there nor was there a vehicle ready for a test drive in the below zero degree weather. (I looked up and saw my name on the reader board along with the name of the person I had worked with all day and the appointment time) but I never did see the vehicle I was interested in. They both "ran the numbers" and said that this vehicle was $22,900 (higher than it was advertised online) and that my payment would be over $400 per month. I explained that I had worked with a sales person online all day but they "couldn't find the emails". When I explained that she had sent me links to 4 cars that would fit my buying parameters, Tom said "When was the last time you bought a car bud?". This experience was both humiliating and a complete waste of my valuable time. I would highly recommend avoiding Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor. I was then called at home by Jerry Law, the general manager at the Lincoln Dealership in Novi, and he apologized for my experience and said "I will get my guys together on this and call you back first thing in the morning". I didn't receive a call. I have an appointment with Suburban Jeep in Ann Arbor today to purchase a vehicle. read more

This dealership does not deserve your business. When I decided to lease from them, it took 8 hours to close the deal, which is absolutely ridiculous. Then, my Escape is a 2 year lease and after 1 year of driving the Air Conditioner quit working. The dealership came up with a magic bullet theory to say a rock pierced my compressor and it is not covered by warranty. I have never been in any accident or driven in harsh conditions. My whole reason for leasing cars is so that I don't have to deal with issues of fixing things like this. However, with a Fix Or Repair Daily, I guess this is not the case. We even filed a complaint to corporate and they were still not willing to give any compensation for a clear design flaw in the AC. Furthermore, I am a successful 30 year old who leases a car every 2 years and there is no chance I will ever lease another Fix Or Repair Daily. Nice work Ford, no wonder you have the reputation you do. read more
