Kenny and his amazing team took such good care of my 2013 GTI recently. My car felt sort of...jerky? Less powerful? Like something was wrong, but it still ran. I had taken it to a local shop who tried to diagnose what was wrong but couldn't quite come up with an answer. Several months later, I had something else go wrong with my car, and while it was an easy fix, I asked Kenny to look into the older issue to see if he couldn't find out what was wrong. Kenny and the crew took lots of time and care into investigating the issue, and ultimately resolved it (it was a lot of labor, so quite expensive, but I'm so glad I took care of it). I work on many of my own vehicles and usually my wife's car but recently there was an oil leak on her S4 and I really didn't feel like dealing with it without a lift. I knew that Kenny had opened his own shop so we brought it in. He found two leaks (oil cooler and rear engine seal) recommended doing the oil cooler and suggested we leave the engine seal alone as it was a minor leak and the car really isn't worth the engine out labor to fix. First I would say don't buy a VW Jetta. I inherited one with 60k on it and figured it would be a great reliable car. Not!!! Very few shops are willing to work on them at all. Engine light went on and it turned out to be the diesel filter 3k to repair. Couple of months later engine light again and it was water pump malfunction which became opportunity to replace timing belt also another 3k. In any case V.A.S. Motors was recommended by fellow Yelpers and they are fantastic. Kenny the proprietor is the local guru of VW repair and did meticulous work to diagnose the problems. It is way expensive to maintain these cars so don't get one but if you have to get one fixed I highly recommend VAS Motors. You can feel confident that the work is done correctly in a timely fashion. I struggled getting my previous repair shop to even call me back. Within 30 minutes of calling VAS Motor Works, Kenny the owner and master mechanic called me back, identified what he thought might be causing my issues and fit me in the next day. He was extremely friendly and communicative throughout the repair process, explaining exactly what the issue was, specifically what the parts and labor would cost and was able to have me back in my car within 48 hours. After getting a ridiculously high quote for 60K service for my friends Q7, a buddy of mine recommend I stop by this place and talk to Kenny. The shop can be easily missed but it's the second driveway on the right. Shop is run by Kenny and his son and they do all the work. Don't expect any high pressure sales from him either; he's honest, upfront and very knowledgeable not only with Audi's but really German cars. He takes the time to listen to your problems and never hesitates to give you some tips about your car. He uses only certified parts and lubricants and doesn't rush through his service. I was so happy with the service he did on my friend's Q7 that I had him do a 40K service on my GL63. He charged me hundreds less than the dealer (but you do miss out on the dealers free donuts and free car wash LOL) and took care of a couple of minor stuff I wasn't aware of at no cost! Not only that, but he also brought to my attention that my headlight alignment were off; something the MB dealer never informed me after multiple "safety inspection" and scheduled services there. That's what you call service! One downside is that the father and son are BUSY! So make sure to call and schedule an appointment! read more

Fixed ABS (warning light intermittent) in 2000 Jetta. ABS was definitely inoperable; I conducted road test to verify. ABS control modules are obsolete, so VW can't supply a replacement part anymore. But VAS uses a company outside of Bay Area who repairs control modules or find ones from salvage that can be repaired. Now, I have ABS working for the times when I need it. read more

Kenny was willing to work on my 1979 Rabbit Diesel. The local diesel shop down the street from me was not... Anyway, lucky for me because Kenny is awesome. He speaks directly, doesn't push, and is confident in his team's ability to get the job done. I had a couple problems: low power since the last job was done, slowly disappearing coolant (oh, no!), and air in the brakes. Timing was off by one tooth in the belt. Fixed it. He found an external, minor coolant leak that sealed up once the engine was hot. Just told me. Sourced a replacement master cylinder. Replaced it. He found a tie rod end with 1/2 inch of play! Replaced it. The car was completely improved! An economy car of the late '70's was restored to full power and safe drive-ability. I did at least 6 round trips to Los Angeles, a trip to Seattle, and commuted in LA traffic for 4 months after his help. When I sold the car, the buyer said 'Wow, this thing steers like a go-cart!' I never said that for 8 years of ownership before Kenny got to it! read more

I have a 10-year-old VW Passat with 30K miles. I get a lot of conflicting feedback from mechanics about work that needs to be done, e.g. tires, brake pads, timing belt. Most are based on the age of the car rather than the actual condition of the car. Also, I had an engine failure incident recently. And I did not get good information from Royal Automotive (the VW dealer in SF) as to why that happened. Kenny and Alvin were very helpful to do a proper diagnostic on the car and gave me very honest and reasonable estimates on what needs to be done now; and the conditions for the tires, brake pads, and the timing belt - all in good conditions now. Also, they gave me a very good explanation to the cause of the engine failure and the general issue w VW's engine design and the fuel pump module. I really enjoyed working w both of them.
