Was in the neighborhood and wanted to eat something that was not fast food. We got a margarita pizza. It was quite large and price was not bad. I'm used to nyc pizza so it was ok for me. The restaurant had a mom and pop feel to it. You can tell it's a popular place in the town as it started filling up on a Sunday with families going out with their kids. The service was ok. Was recently in BPT and we wanted to pick up some, you guessed it, pizza (lol) for our Sunday dinner. I heard a lot of good things from a coworker of mine about this place. We started with garlic knots and mozz sticks. Both were tasty. My fiance had his normal plain cheese pizza and I opted for half pepp half sausage. I only leave Yelp reviews if it's a very poor experience or exceptional... and I have never had such BAD service at a restaurant. We had three different waitresses come to our table which was confusing. The appetizer and drinks came out fine. I checked the time, an HOUR had passed since ordering a pizza for the table. I understand that restaurants get a bit crazy during a weekend rush, but it was not the case. Other people had their apps and entrees coming out quickly with amazing customer care. I asked for the check and the pizza to go. When the pizza came out immediately with the check. The pizza wasn't even cut in slices. Grabbed a pie to go from Mario the Baker in Bridgeport, CT First time giving this place a try. Very good pepperoni pizza. Dough was soft and a bit chew. Crust has a little crunch. Good balance of sauce and cheese. Basic pepperoni slices, good spice. Went in and this place was very busy. Had a great vibe. The place smelled amazing. I'll definitely have to be back for a sit down dinner and try out the rest of the menu. So I'm kinda new to CT pizza and Mario was highly recommended. I have to say it was okay, nothing to write home about. We had phoned in a carry-out order and It was ready when we arrived. The staff was friendly. It was a little odd to me that when we ordered a Margherita Pizza that they asked if we wanted red or white sauce. I have never seen a white Margherita. Obviously we selected red sauce. The pizza had thin slices of whole tomato on top, which I again thought was unique and not classic Margherita. The dough was okay, but the slices did flop. The Caesar salad with chicken was nice and truly loaded with perfectly cooked grilled chicken slices. Lastly, we had an order of broccoli rabe. It was sautéed with garlic. It tasted more like broccolini instead of broccoli rabe because there was no distinctive bitter taste which is a main characteristic of broccoli rabe. They have a nice dining room and plenty of parking either in the lot or on the side street. read more

We got a second chance at Mario the Baker this summer, six years after our first encounter. We enjoyed a very good Italian-food dinner. I can't quite give it five stars, but it was delicious and we would both return again given the opportunity. The bread, again, was delicious, so it seems they really do the baking on site? They should make more of that, in my opinion. Casual but nice dining room, good service, just a good time all around. Not pricey! In looking this up to "revisit" my first review, I discovered there are two Mario the Baker restaurants in Florida, also, with similar menus. Don't know any history of how these three came to be, but this Bridgeport (well north of downtown, just off Merritt Parkway) restaurant is very good. Would love to try the pizza. read more

Ordered a garlic sausage pizza. I have never gotten one with huge slices of raw garlic until tonight. It was terrible. I had to take most of it off. Why would a pizza place think this is ok. Ever heard of chopped? At least the crust was perfect. The table bread was pretty bad as well. Our party of 5 refused to finish it. Finally the Creme Brulee was amazingly delicious but under cooked. Stopped in to get a late lunch. Overall the restaurant is ok We started off by having an order of calamari which was really good. Lightly battered and fried. Plenty of flavor and cooked perfectly. For our meals we had the chicken parmigiana with pasta, lasagna and the hot antipasto. The hot antipasto was good and flavorful. The chicken parmigiana was probably the star of the afternoon. The chicken was very flavorful and moist. My dish left me disappointed. The lasagna was not good at all. It did not have much taste to it and it seemed like it was at least missing several layers. The service was good. The waitress was quick to take care of us and she was quite patient with us having the grandkids. Been eating their food for quite a while now, but as of late, we usually just order and pick-up. This time we decided to go there for a sit-down meal, and we got a chance to explore some of their "specials" and I'm glad we did. Started with a very tasty Bruschetta and then proceeded to order the Shrimp and Scallop special with broccoli rabe and penne pasta, "wow" so good, one of those, "mopped up the remaining juice with the bread" sort of meals. My wife ordered the Clams Casino pizza and loved it! My son ordered the pasta and red sauce, loved the sauce, but had a minor complaint about the pasta being a little to "al-dente". Will continue to dine there and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in trying a new place. read more

Definitely didn't disappoint. Was in from south carolina, brought my mother, sister in law, her mother, my wife and a really good family friend. We went there after a funeral with 11 people. They took us right in without a reservation. Our waitress was awesome she was very attentive. The food was excellent. I'm a very picky person when it comes to Italian food the Calamari & Linguine were simply delicious. We live farther away from here. I updated my review from 3 stars to 4. It just doesn't seem fair to give such a yummy place only 3 stars. The main reason I did that is because of the parking which is not good. But I like the food here soo much. Mario's has been around forever and the pizza is consistently good. And in all the time they have been around, their pizza has really stayed quite good. They have other things besides pizza. Their calzones are quite delicious. I do not eat calzones all that much but when I do, I like alot of cheese. They do great calzones and the pizza is some of the best in the area. Now for the parking. Parking is insane around here. It can be very difficult to park and there have been times I have ordered to go and then had a really tough time finding somewhere to park. I wish that could change. as it sometimes makes me not want to go out of the way to go to Mario's, especially when I am not in the mood for hunting for parking. But if you can deal with the parking, you will like this place. In addition to pizza, they have the usual, grinders and the like. You can eat in or get takeout. However, this time after eating, I asked for a box to take my salad to go, the waitress brought back the containers and explained her packing the food is part of the service. As she emptied the salad into the container not all of the salad came off, she then took her bare hands and scrapped the remainder of the salad into the container. I was in complete shock! I said why are you touching the food with your bare hands, she tried to explain that she was just taking off the remainder of the salad. I said forget we don't want it. My favorite dish is zuppa de pesce and I have tried many places. Very disappointed with the Westport high end restaurants which fell flat on their face with this dish. They skimp on the shrimp and scallops and push calamari. The quality is not good and i classify them as a rip off. Today I tried mario the baker and was overjoyed two large shrimp, several large mussels and clams and sea scallops. they did include calamari but it was tender and tasty. Normally my family and I get takeout from here when we are visiting my mom who lives in Trumbull, but tonight we decided to have dinner here. It's a small restaurant with maybe 15 tables total but a very large takeout service and despite being busy, not one part of our meal was overlooked. I highly recommend the eggplant rollatini, eggplant Parmesan, penne à la vodka without the chicken, and the chicken Parmesan. Each time we get these dishes they are more flavorful than the last time. Tonight my mom and I shared eggplant Parmesan and veal Parmesan, not sure why we got two Parmesan dishes but it was well worth it. The veal was tender and juicy, and the sauce was quite complementary with just the right amount of cheese. Same for the eggplant, normally when I get eggplant Parmesan it is greasy or oily, not the case here. Excellent wine selection and the bread was hot and delicious, you don't even need butter or olive oil to go with it! I highly recommend getting the tiramisu for dessert if you have room for it, it's spongy and just the right amount of mascarpone cheese and cocoa powder. We will definitely be getting more meals from here, and kudos the staff for being friendly and personable with us and not rushing us, despite it being a busy evening read more

Been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally got there tonight. Place was packed at 8:00 but only had to wait about 15 min to be seated. This place is old school Italian, you can tell it's all locals who've been going there for years. Set up, decor and prices are along the lines of your local pizza joint. Once seated they bring you a basket of warm Italian bread with butter packets. I LOVED the bread! I couldn't stop eating it, had 3 pieces before my gf pulled basket away from me and said that's enough. It's a crunchy crust with a warm soft middle and the butter melts nicely when you spread it. Coulda ate the whole loaf. The waitress informed me they make the bread there and you can come in and buy a loaf anytime! Anyway enough about the bread here's what we had for $84.00 before tip. 2 orders of tagliatelle bolanese - I didn't try it but the 2 girls I was with loved it, large portion and had enough to take home for lunch the next day One order Shrimp Florentine- very tasty large portion but I ate it all. I would order again Pasta Fagoli- good size bowl but more beans than pasta and a lot of garlic in it. Not the best I've ever had nor the worst. Probably wouldn't order again Broccoli rabe and sausage appetizer- delicious! I could have eaten just this and loaf of bread. Tasty tender rabe with thinly sliced sausage that was delicious. Carafe of wine- good wine and would order again it was cheap. So all this for 84 bucks plus the most delicious Italian bread I've ever had - hell yea I'll be back! read more

This was an awesome restaurant, the meatballs were great (a side of meatballs included 2 big ones). An excellent wine selection. The scallops and shrimp pasta (with large prawns) was very tasty and the chocolate mousse dessert was worth coming back for. This was my first time at Mario the Baker. My sister and I started with the fried mozzarella, which was very yummy. The salad and bread basket was pretty good, but nothing special. For dinner I got the cavatelli. Unfortunately it was over cooked, kind of mushy. I didn't eat much of it. My sister got the spaghetti with clam sauce, again nothing to write home about. It was a decent dinner, but nothing I couldn't make at home for cheaper. If I visit again I will try the pizza. read more
