Ordered Xmas Eve food to be picked up at 330. Showed at 3:40 and to my surprise 50 people in front waiting for their pickups. Some people picking up at 2:45 with no food ready. Still waiting on line with no end in sight. Do the right thing in 2022 and don't take on too many orders and make people wait for hours when their families are at home - especially those from out of town - waiting for them to bring their lunch or dinner. Disappointing evening! First to time visiting Vazzy's and will not be returning. Service was horrible. Waited well over an hour for entrees and watched multiple tables with customers that were seated after us receive their meals and even leave the restaurant prior to receiving our entrees. Clearly there was a problem with our order and whether the server failed to put it in or the kitchen mixed it up, Vazzy's failed to recognize or even acknowledge the problem. I had the San Diego chicken dish and the chicken tasted as if it was freezer burned, definitely not fresh. Mussel appetizers were very good. read more

Vazzy's is one of my favorite spots to eat in Monroe. Both the food and the environment are great! The bar is always lively, but sometimes the service in the bar can be a bit slow because only one person is usually manning both the bar and the high top tables. Okay: As the song goes, where do I begin? First off, I was surprised at the humble outside appearance of the place. I'd dressed elegant/casual for the occasion, which was two birthdays (my older son and his fiancé) and Mother's Day (for me). I would've worn jeans or whatever for what was essentially a divey- Italian-American place in a tiny strip mall. But I digress..... When we were all seated, it took about 20 minutes to get any attention. And it was NOT that busy. True, they knew that we had a 5th person still on his way (because the reservation was for 5), but they didn't even check to see if we wanted drinks or whatever in the meantime. And there was NO way to run catch the eye of wait staff, who were particularly skilled in the Art of Avoidance. When the 5th person arrived, we finally got to order drinks and dinner. My husband ordered a coffee. Our drinks came, but 25 mins later, still no coffee for my husband. She zoomed by once at some point, as my husband was amazingly successful in catching her eye (he also does this Karate thing where he can catch a fly with his bare hands, so....), and asked her about the coffee. She exclaimed, mumbled something about the pot not being done(!), and finally came back with a cup. When she did, I asked her about the food. She said that my "lamb was holding things up." Huh? 15 min lamb chops with a steamed veggie? The others had chicken parm, lasagna, tortellini, and an easy beef tips appetizer. So my guess? It took longest to thaw the FROZEN lasagna. What else could make it take 45 mins, especially considering we were only one of a few tables there?? What a disgrace. Okay, food in front of us, now we were seriously on our own. Not a single offer of water, just a drive-by "How is everything," and back into oblivion. When she finally returned, it was to ask about dessert--which I'd already arranged by phone, having ordered two b'day cake slices. I quietly reminded her of this. She nodded, "Okay," and raced off. Now I was facing the wall at this corner table (I hate it when a metaphor becomes true), so I didn't know wth was happening when all of a sudden, this voice from the ether comes up behind me singing Happy Birthday. The voice/waitress thrust the plates into the center of the table, and pretty much finished the song on her own, stumbling over the names which, of course, she hadn't asked for prior, and simulated an approximation of what we told her. Honestly, it sounds funny but it was horribly gauche. We were still all frozen in shock when she left, having been in no way prepared to join into our own party! She'd given us no dessert menus, no coffees, etc. When she finally returned, she slapped dessert menus down and waited impatiently. I mean, this was truly stupid and horrible. Now for the Piéce de Résistance--one of the birthday gifts was stolen. We had brought the gifts in gift bags. One of them was accidentally left; best we can determine, it had probably fallen to the floor and we didn't see it (that place is kind of dark). So my son called when he got home, and they told him that they'd found nothing. So we checked our cars and homes, naturally. Nothing. So now I'm getting angry, already fed up after the evening. So I called. And the manager (Donna, I think??) told me what she told my son. So I said, "Well, since we don't have the bag, and we went from the restaurant to the cars and straight home, it MUST have been there." Seeming annoyed, she put me on hold. Came back in a couple of minutes, saying 'oh, yeah, someone found it, but they put it in the dumpster already." This is where my voice probably got a little screamy, and I said, "Well, can you get someone to go look for it?? It should be right on top." She proceeds to say, "I can't, we're closed, I'm the only one here." So I said that she couldn't be, as I heard male voices. "You're hearing my ride home," she said. "I'll make a note so someone can look in the morning." No explanation of how the bag wasn't found, and then it WAS found, but now it was in the dumpster!!?? Need I say that she didn't call the next day. I called again, though, asked for Rose, the manager, whose name I saw here on Yelp. She was EQUALLY UNCONCERNED and not at all apologetic in the way that you'd think a restaurant might be, especially toward customers who'd spent $175 on a meal!! No regret, just impatience, annoyance, and shutting me down. She said they'd check the dumpster and get back to me. Yeah, right. You guessed it....nothing, no call. So, whoever stole my son's scarf and Nissan car coasters, an affectionate gift from his brother, I hope you find your new acquisition worth the lies and the loss of business. read more

I have been here about 20 times and had the pizza truck at my house - not sure what happened tonight service terrible out server never got us drinks had to ask twice for water and bread.. my salmon was over cooked and burned the potatoes and vegetables were cold. I'm not sure what to do about stars; have been here many times and usually it's fine. Typically come for happy hour after a long work week and are treated like a queen by our usual server, a young (Italian?) man who is very knowledgeable, attentive and quick. They have an interesting but acceptable set up for outdoor dining during covid. However, on my most recent visit, I would not even leave ONE star. We had a waitress who took forever to greet us but took our drink order and we ordered an app while we waited-meatball sliders, which we typically enjoy. Meatballs were...PLEATBALLS!!! Frozen, factory-made crap thrown into jar sauce- inedible. Then out drinks (finally) arrived. We had ordered one of the happy hour special drinks that we normally get, a (blood) orange martini. What we received was an orange margarita. Fortunately we had pictures of our usual drink, taken the week before. We showed the "waitress," who informed us that she was the BARTENDER! She was running the bar/happy hour singlehandedly and didn't have time to research what went into a bar menu drink item. She took our drinks back and promised to return with what was on the menu that we had ordered. 20 minutes later, we were getting up to leave and she reappeared to promise again she'd be back with our drinks, all the while complaining about how busy and frazzled she was. I used to eat here all the time. Well this place went downhill. I came back because my brother delivers food here & he likes their food. Befn here 5x in the last two months & it just keeps getting worse and worse. I won't come back. Service is the worst. Our food took well over an hour with no one else whatsoever in the restaurant, three table outside had people, that's it, and we were the first ones there but got our food so late. As an appetizer you get a delicious fresh baked on site, still hot, bread and a mouth watering garlic sauce to dip it in, I loved it so much I kept on asking for more...lol. Hey I was pregnant, I had cravings... lol. The Entrees are so good and the portions are more than even a blessed woman with child can handle...lol, everything on the menu was wonderful, seafood, steak, veal, pasta, antipasto, anything you order, you will be more than pleased with, and the staff is exquisitely pleasant, every item on the menu has a detailed description of the ingredients and preparation so you know what you are getting. So bomb. My family comes here all the time so I have been blessed with their take out but never actually eaten here. At home in ct for a week so I had to come here. Bread and olives are delish but the garlic "hummus" as they call it is out of this world. I went with my momma so we started with the crab cakes and then I had the meatball salad. I don't ever write restaurant reviews but after dining here this evening, 07/27/14, I had to. The hostess greeted us with a, "how many" and no smile. We asked for a high chair that normally we would flip over for our car seat for our 2 month old son, we were told they had no high chairs available and would seat us at a booth to put him on. We were seated at the front booth in the dining room underneath a vent that was consistently dripping onto my husband and his plate due to the condensation build-up on a visibly dirty vent. Our waitress was a joke. I couldn't tell you her name because she never told us! She greeted us with the biggest puss on her face and a, "what would you like to drink?." Due to the clear language barrier, (she sounded Russian), when my husband ordered my calzone because I had to take my son to the bathroom to change his diaper. He asked for no ricotta and she replied with, "no avocado." Couldn't tell you why avocado should even be an option in anyone's mind for a calzone. She did not smile once throughout our dining experience. There were 7 of us so I was hoping someone could get her to crack a smile but you would think she was on her way to Alcatraz the way she treated us. None of the girls smiled at all the entire time we were there. Plus, we barely saw our waitress! We were there for almost 3 hours and saw her maybe 5 times. Very depressing. The food? Ehhh, it was what you would expect an Italian-American restaurant to be. We had veal parm, chicken parm, chicken grinder, meatball grinder, chicken fingers, pepperoni calzone and a hot oil pizza. There was a solid amount of food; enough to bring home. But when it came to dessert. That was as much of a joke as the service! Three of us ordered the WARM molten lava cake to share amongst the table. When you order a WARM dessert, you expect it to be WARM! Well, it was more like re-heated for 5 minutes then topped with a scoop of ice cream. It should take at least 15 minutes to cook this dessert (I know because I've made them). I was able to take my crying child outside for a quick 5 minute walk around the parking lot until he fell asleep and came back to the cold lava cake dessert at our seat. Not worth it and I LOVE lava cake! As for taking my 2 month old to the ladies room to change his diaper? HAH! I had to change him on the floor of the bathroom. There was no changing table so make sure you bring a changing pad! The second time I had to change him during our meal, I brought him out to the car because I was so disgusted that I had to kneel on a dirty bathroom floor to change my infant. To be honest, for the insane amount of money we spent there tonight, and the terrible service, it's not worth eating in there again. I'd rather have take-out so I don't have to see such depressing employees. read more

What an enlightening experience for the taste buds! The restaurant is located in a small strip mall on the main street of Monroe, CT. The ambiance is warm with an old world meets modern feel. The menu was typical of an Italian Restaurant. We started off with drinks, $7 Jack Daniels and Coke which my husband says was good but felt cheated on the quantity as the glass was filled to the top with ice. I had a $12 Lemontini which was delightful and would order again. For dinner I had the $17 Chicken Sorrentino which comes with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. You must know this dish is bursting with flavor so much in fact I couldn't stop talking about it. My husband went with the $28 Porterhouse Steak special which came with the same sides as my dish. He too enjoyed his meal. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us throughout our meal. For certain we'll be going here again. We've had countless pizzas from here and the quality has always been good but not exceptional. For instance we had half cheese and half pepperoni pizza last evening. The cheese section was surprisingly salty. I'm not sure why but I would have much rather the aromatic taste of rosemary! Whenever we want to eat out but cant decide where to go, we always decide on Vazzy's. They are our "go to" restaurant. Even if you just order pizza, they bring out a large basket of homemade bread. Usually also a dip to go with it, but not always. All the staff are very professional and friendly. Went here recently for a luncheon after a funeral. Had rolled fish ??? And their version of chicken picatta. Also had ziti as an appetizer with a salad. All was served " family style. ( that means they throw a plate on the table with something in it and you portion out a helping for yourself. Tables held 8 and were pushed much too close together. Food was very mediocre and not very appetizing. Then we got cookies and coffee for desert. Cookies were cold and I suspect they came from the freezer. You could knock down a brick wall with anyone of them since they were probably more than a week beyond their freshness date. A few years ago I had a run in with Rose, who was awful. After our entire order was incorrect, she acted as if I was the culrprit for getting the order wrong and was intolerable. I could see the staff's look on their face in embarrassment. Tonight I had a similar run in with Lisa the manager. As soon as we walked in to pick up a take out order worth hundreds, before greeting us she angrily looked at me and said stand over there as if we were in violation of an invisible fence. Then when we said we were there to pick up an order she asked for the order number. They never give an order number on the phone when you order and even if they did , and you forget it, we're the customer....it's a terrible system. So we started to say what we ordered as an alternative and she was like "yeah everyone orders that"...and this went on and on. Then we went to the bar per her recommendation, spent money there waiting and over a half an hour later, our food was still not ready. Her attitude persisted and her staff were clearly embarrassed. It got to the point where we left and went to Rebulic Kitchen and my god...what a difference. Plus the only reason we order from Vazzy's is quick and convenient, but if that's not there, then why would any one patronize this restaurant. Until Vazzy's fixes these cocky stuck up managers, forget it. Never again. read more

Had my birthday dinner last night at Vazzy's in Monroe on Rte. 25. The service was very good but we found ourselves looking for the waitress quite often. It would have been helpful if she checked back with us more often. I had the lobster ravioli at her suggestion and it was fantastic. We split a Caeser's salad to start and it was delicious. My husband had the chicken ziti dish with sausage & broccoli rabe. He really enjoyed that. We ordered dessert to go, so that we would have enough time to watch a movie that we had rented. The carrot cake was pretty good but I would order something different next time. My husband loved the peanut butter cheesecake. Two other small items that kept the meal from being perfect - the room was rather chilly but I didn't want to say anything since I had already pointed out an earlier concern to our waitress. The table right next to us had two women seated at it. Toward the end of their meal they were looking at a video on one of their smartphones with the sound turned all the way up. When this had gone on for almost 3 minutes I looked to the waitress to intervene but she just looked on. Fortunately, the ladies were soon gone but a general suggestion from the manager or other staff members to turn down the noise would have been helpful. We will return again. read more

The food is very good. Not great, but still ver good. Decor is nice too. Price is a bit steep. Dinner runs about $19-25 on average with most in the $23-24 range, though pasta and pizza are cheaper and still quite good. Wine is pricey and is a couple more dollars per glass than (I think) is reasonable given that we are not in the richer towns. One really negative thing is that when the restaurant is half to mostly filled, you can't hear the conversations with people at your table. It is a chore to hold a conversation given the acoustics in that place. I would say it's best to do take-out. I have had their pizza and it is wonderful and reasonable too. Just expect a chore to talk in there. This acoustic problem has been an issue for years there, so I'm not sure why the owners won't fix it. They certainly seem to be bringing in revenue. read more

My boyfriend and I visited here on a Tuesday night. Service was a little rocky to start - apparently no one knew we were seated. But it turned around quickly. Our waitress was incredibly nice and gave us our first round on the house because of the mix up. The food was delicious and steaming hot! I had the Papa Del and my boyfriend had the Rustica. Vazzy's is one of our go to lunch spots. Pasta is always tasty depending on what you get. I'm not a fan of their o/wine based pastas but their cream or tomato based pastas are the bomb! Before I went vegetarian the pasta carbonara was my favorite. It's the best carbonara I've had outside Italy :) It's not on the menu but they always have no hesitation to make it when I ask. The pesto tortellini is so flavorful and creamy but perfect balance of pesto. Love their penne vodka and the ravioli in vodka sauce. Their stuffed bread appetizers are always good but if dining in get the fried mozzarella! The sauce is so good and the mozzarella is oozing when fresh to the table. The cappuccinos are a great touch with rock sugar Sticks and biscotti. I've had many great things here and their drinks are good too. The cheese bread and garlic hummus dip is complimentary and sets them apart. Sometimes pasta flavors can be inconsistent which is the reason I took off a star. Service is always friendly and attentive. The pasta fragoli soup is amazing and vegetarian!! read more

What usually cost us $65, suddenly cost four people $95 for takeout! The half baked chicken went from $13 to $24. And it really wasn't that great! We tried Vazzy's for the first time last night. The bar was packed but we were able to get a table in the restaurant within 5 mins. Since this was our first time here, we weren't sure how big the servings were so we shared most of the food. The bread basket they bring to the table was delicious and comes with a Cesar dip (I think it was Cesar) We ordered the Cesar salad to share, which was huge and had lots of shaved cheese. The salad was "good" we were a little disappointed that the dressing was bottled and not made fresh since this is an Italian restaurant. The beef carpaccio was good, according to my husband. It came with arugula, shaved truffles and truffle oil.He would order it again. We also ordered the calamari and that was really really delicious. Lastly, we had the NY cheesecake and a special house coffee. Yummy. Our waitress was really helpful and very nice. We'll defiantly go back and hopefully get a seat at the bar next time. read more
