QI would like to start by saying.... I have NEVER written a comment/review on yelp before, but I feel I must in this case...... I just moved to the area and needed a vet about 3 months ago and they were recommended to me. At that time I had a really positive experience with a doctor who wasn't out to spend all my money, just help with my dog. Today I had to go back with another dog of mine and I met with Dr Thomas (unfortunately I do not remember the name of the dr I met with a couple of months ago). I have to say, Dr Thomas was VnERY sweet and throrough. She didn't do anything too invasive to diagnose my dog but discussed options and findings and left it up to me :) not only are the doctors nice, but the entire staff is sweet and attentive. I would HIGHLY recommend them... And if you knew me, I don't do this! read more

My dog loves the care he gets here. The front office staff is helpful cheerful and friendly. The vets- there is a group of veterinary doctors - are all very skilled. They listen to the pet parents concerns. You can really tell these people love working with animals. They keep my dog healthy. I appreciate the fact that they are open on Saturdays too. I have been a customer here for many years and plan on continuing. I do recommend them if anyone is looking for a vet. Plenty of parking on both sides of the hospital / clinic . They also can provide overnight boarding , or boarding for vacations. read more

I've been bringing my dog here pretty consistently but after today f*ck this place. After being chastised by the vet because the techs can't get a muzzle on my dog (which hasn't been a problem in the past here) and being commanded to learn to muzzle him and give him trazadone before I bring him back (which I've been told by vets here in the past not to do) I'm waiting over 30 minutes to get out of here and have just NOW been acknowledged. I just now started this account in the time it's taken to be spoken to and told to keep waiting. Worst service, worst communication, and I was just given a bunch of meds that may or may not work because the vet wouldn't even see him. Anyone have a good recommendation for a vet office that can treat their customers consistently and with any semblance of communication skills and giving a shit? read more

We like doctor Laura Beyer who is very friendly and caring. However, their corporate office determines the vaccine pricing which used to be $28 for a 3-year feline dose, and now it is raised to $95!!! I decided to go to the Animal AM Emergency down the road instead because they only charge $27 for the same vaccine. Im glad I asked about their prices and didn't just assume. read more

Unfortunately our reason for visiting this animal hospital was heartbreaking. We woke to our beloved family member, Cookie, in severe distress. She could not use her back legs and was clearly suffering from what it seemed many ailments due to her ripe old age of 17. As we rushed in sobbing and not able to speak the lovely lady at the front desk took one look and just knew. No words were necessary. They got us right back to a room where we were greeted by the most compassionate vet (we were in such bad shape I didn't even get her name). After a thorough exam we had to make the hardest decision of our lives. Throughout the entire process the vet held our hands, held sweet Cookie and talked us through it. At one point the lovely lady from the front desk came in and reassured us we were making the right decision, as it was the best thing for Cookie, those words were like gold. At this point there are a million things running through our heads, including doubt. They stood with us while we wept and provided a loving, calm, comforting environment. The next week to our surprise we got an amazing sympathy card in the mail with a thoughtful hand written note. We will forever be grateful to the compassion and caring humans at this VCA. read more

I recently adopted a cat from a shelter. On Thursday, I decided to take my feline friend here to look into a) his sniffles for possible upper respiratory infection and b) he's been scratching behind his left ear a lot to the point the skin is raw & bleeding and reopening scratches/healing cabs from a cat fight scratch; or if its something serious like ear mites/scabbies/etc. or allergies. PROS: - Convenient location, lots of parking spots! - The waiting area looks like a living room, very nice and clean. - Since I adopted the cat, they waived the first visit fee!! - No appt is needed; walk-in - Short wait. CONS: - The front desk staff are cordial, but can be nicer. - The other doctors passing through the waiting area didn't seem friendly either. The reason for the one star is for the doctor -- Dr. Beyer. Talk about cold & distant personality!! I couldn't even tell if she likes cats. Didn't say hi to my cat, never uttered his name. Honestly, I felt like she judged him/us. It's hard to describe. She started examining my cat (not very thoroughly/attentively....come to find out later 2 days later from the groomer that he has EAR MITES!!!) and she was quick to diagnose him with upper respiratory infection. Like she didn't really want to touch him. (Btw, he's super cute, flea-less and clean!) I was really concerned about the bloody raw patch of skin behind his ear. I asked her more questions about the possibility of other skin rashes/diseases. She only gave one-word answers and nonchalantly said "could be scabbies but the antibiotics can help improve his skin condition & wear e-collar!! I wasn't satisfied with her answer. I feel like I have to really pry information/advice out of her!! On Saturday, two days after the vet visit, I was still concerned and all the other vets are closed! I ended up taking my cat for a bath to help ease his itchiness and get his ears cleaned! Well, the groomer was SHOCKED that the vet didn't even recognize immediately that he had EAR MITES!!! She showed me build up of ground coffee-like crumbs in his left ear!! (Come to think of it, Dr. Beyer didn't even look into his ears during his check up!) What a pain!! Now I need to wait and take him to TLC Pet Medical Center on Sunday and my poor cat has to suffer another couple of days!! GGGRRRR...... if only Dr. Beyer had properly diagnosed him with earmites on Thursday, gave him the proper meds/treatment, I wouldn't be typing this scathing review!! And my cat wouldn't be suffering!!! PS - I'm sure other doctors there are great!! And especially for dogs!! From reading other reviews, I don't think their specialty lies in cat. read more

This used to be a good place to take a pet, but that has changed since the takeover by VCA. Last time I went I saw a vet who isn't even listed on the Web site as working at the clinic, and instead of having an opportunity to speak with a vet about my pet 's test results I was told by someone who answered the phone o"oh yah! well I talked to her ( presumably the vet) and she said like there were no problems with any animal she saw yesterday but she had to leave early so yah." We've had nothing but great experiences with Foothill for almost 25 years now. Not only are the doctors all caring, kind, and proficient, but so is the rest of the staff. The back office staff are gentle and patient and the desk staff are wonderful about giving advice and coordinating with specialists. Going to Foothill Vests since I was a little girl (40+ years). Now married, moved near Brea, 6 dogs later & still going. Dr Bell and Staff are awesome! I can't tell you how many vet offices I've walked in then turned around and walked out because the smell and are dirty. Not here! They are honest and don't stack-up unnecessary treatments. Warning: MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU KNOW WHAT SERVICES YOU ARE RECEIVING 1) BEFORE THEY ARE GIVEN IN THE EXAM ROOM and 2) BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT TO PAY. These girls behind the counter are incredibly cold and unfriendly and act like you are imposing on their day. It has happened to me twice now that I go in for something and am overcharged for multiple other services which I never agreed to receive in the first place. UNACCEPTABLE! The most recent time, I went in for expired bordatella. They told me I have other vaccinations which are expired. If this was so, why was I never informed of that in the mail like I was for the bordatella?? Inside the exam room I told the doctor I only want to get one shot today. Which is the cheaper? That is the one what I want. Doctor instead gives me the more expensive one, but justifies it by saying, "Well we will just make this one a once a year shot since your dog does not frequent dog parks." That's great for future reference, but that is not what I asked for to begin with. I was only prepared to pay for one vaccine. They still gave me the more expensive one. And why isn't this something you mentioned before hand in the several years I had been going to this hospital (that he can be fine with it only once a year). THIS MEANS THAT MY DOG HAS BEEN OVER MEDICATED ALL THIS TIME BY SHOTS HE DID NOT NEED AND THE MONEY I HAD BEEN SPENDING WAS UNNECESSARY AS WELL. I have had this same issue with failure to clearly communicate several times at this hospital. And the girls at the front with their rude attitudes are like the cherry on top of this disaster cake. I tried to make an appointment for my cat over the phone，the staff who answered was so rude that even hanged up before I can response.

All I can say is that at the possible worst time to be a pet owner (i.e, when your dog needs to be put down), VCA Foothill, and in particular, Dr. Howes, could not have been more kind, compassionate, and just all around decent human beings. My sweet beloved dog, 15 and 1/2 (and who up til this time had been very healthy), started having some medical issues and we learned she had end stage gallbladder disease, gleaned from an ultrasound at a specialty vet. The options were to spend thousands to remove her gallbladder in an operation she probably wouldn't survive or to treat her symptoms and basically play it by ear via home hospice care so to speak. We did the latter. She was doing quite well for a couple of weeks. She then had one day of vomiting so we took her to a different vet (who will remain nameless) and was told to put her down that day, despite that she was able to move around and didn't seem to be in much distress. That vet insisted that she was suffering and we should do it right away. The front staff there gave me info on what they charged and it seemed high and just a cold/uncaring way to proceed. Nevertheless, we begrudgingly listened to that vet but planned an in-home euthanasia as it was a better option from so many standpoints including keeping her calm, the price, etc. That night the visiting vet (Dr. Grote, who I've given a glowing separate review) arrived, talked with us and spent time with my dog (who happened to jog over to him and lick him when he arrived). His opinion was that our dog was not suffering and we clearly weren't ready to put her down as evidenced by my sobbing outside of the room when I thought he was doing it with my husband by his side. He was right. So we didn't do it then. She then had 10 more quiet but wonderful days with us, simple walks around the block, lots of burgers, etc. Then one day in a matter of 1 hour something odd happened to her back leg. I thought maybe she had broken it as she was limping. I took her to VCA Foothill, with Dr. Howes, overseeing her care. Over the course of another hour, she became worse and it became clear that she was throwing blood clots and becoming paralyzed in her back legs. She was essentially screaming (in a dog way) initially from the pain and then the opioid injection because she had no idea what was happening (she had slight dementia). What I observed of my dog no owner should have to see. I THEN KNEW it was the right time because my absolute best friend was suffering terribly. My husband joined me there and we stayed with her while they put her down. It was quiet and peaceful. And both Dr. Howes and her assistants could not have been more understanding and caring. I cannot thank them enough for helping me through this ordeal. And then, on top of it, they aren't charging us for the euthanasia procedure. So very very classy. When I am emotionally ready to get another dog, I will only use VCA Foothill. read more

My Monday started off extremely bad. My small little white well mannered dog was attacked by a neighbor's large mutt. He went right for the jugular and made a puncture wound on my dogs neck. I was freaking out. My dog was bleeding. he was crying excessively. I don't think he had ever been in any worse pain. A neighbor saw me and suggested that I should go to the hospital that's by the in and out. I was assited within a matter of seconds and within three minutes I was already with doctor Mohaghegh.he tested out his neck turned it left, right, up and down. Told me he was going to be okay. Cleaned his wounds stitched them up gave me pain meds as well as medication for preventing infection, and I was out the door within half an hour. They provided me with an extra copy of the charges so I can give it to my careless neighbor. it's not a happy ending even though the guy did pay for my expense. My dog is not going to die but he is always going to be scarred due to this horrific experience.But at least I have a peace of mind that my dog is going to be fine physically. read more

I came here for the first time on May 7 for my 3 year old cat Jamie. I adopted her from the Pasadena Humane Society so first exam is free. I came in Friday morning around 8 and only waited around 5-10 min before going in. The front desk staff were pretty nice and welcoming and the interior is lovely. It feels homey and doesn't have that super medical/clinical animal smell that other clinics have so that was soothing. When we went in, Dr Morgan Thomas was the vet who checked up my cat. She was very kind and sweet and patient with Jamie. Jamie was a shy and fearful cat when we adopted her but the vet was very patient and welcoming to her which definitely made me feel at ease knowing my cat was in good hands. She did the standard check up and told me my cat was fine and took the time to answer all my questions with clarity. No complaints with the care my cat here and I would definitely consider coming back for the next check-up! :) read more

This review is primarily for a specific veterinarian that my pet has seen on 2 occasions. Otherwise the facility is great and the staff are super friendly and attentive. I appreciate that the facility doesn't go by appointments, but on a walk-in system. On that note, it definitely pays to go in early because there may be a long line ahead of you and you could be waiting a while. The veterinarian I have concerns with is Dr Kwan. I don't think he is a bad person or has bad intentions towards our pets, but my perspective is that he is relatively new and unsure when diagnosing. I took my dog in on 2 different occasions for a paw issue. Long story short, his default diagnoses was a "fox tail that got stuck in the paw" (both times) before even looking at my dog's paws and then a very bizarre and irrelevant diagnoses of HPV. So if you happen to be seen by Dr. Kwan, I would definitely go in ready to assert yourself if needed, give your experience and findings of your pet's issue (even though you may not be asked or it may not be considered), and not comply so quickly to an expensive and invasive procedure without doing your homework. Oh and not pay $40 for a paw wrap that will fall off in an hour. Side note: Dr. Andrews is really great and super knowledgeable. read more

Aweful! I've been going since it was owned at Foothill Vet. which was a good place. I think Dr. House is excellent. Still, it has since become egregiously expensive! I paid recently alimony $400 for a visit where i received blood test, consultation and probiotics pushed in me when i was concerned about my dogs well-being. I also don't believe the doctor took note if any of my observations in diagnosing my dog, in fact pretty much dismissed them. Okay, I'm not a vet, but I do know my dog. Still, I can give the doctor a chance. Nothing was found from the blood test ($400 later!), in fact they were good. So they wanted me to come back for further observations. I called today to make an appt. They confirmed Dr. Haus was in, but no appt was necessary, just come in. I took my dog and they asked me why I was there. They didn't see I was just in? They couldn't read his chart or even see i was just in? They said it would be a very long wait because 9 people for that doctor were ahead of me for that vet. They couldn't mention that over the phone? Then when I said my dog sneezed, they said I'd have to wait in my car--at least 30 minutes! I asked if I could go home and they could call me a few minutes prior (I live five minutes from it). Nope! Sit in your car for 30 min to an hour! Absolutely horrible!!! read more

I've been going to Foothill Vet for over a year now and am very satisfied. Dr. Andrews, Lippencott and Beyer are excellent...just the right amount of bedside manner and a good source of information. The prices are a little steep, but I trust that they are utmost professional and it's worth the cost. The front desk is always helpful and friendly (Lindsay's AWESOME...YAY!)and I love the fact that it's a walk-in hospital. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes. read more

I am so thankful to Dr. Howes and everyone here at the VCA. We arrived home this past Wednesday to find one of our cats, a 16 month old, having an issue with urinating and blood in what little urine there was. He had a laceration and a long scratch on the inside of his back right leg and bruising on the inside of his back left leg. We thought he might have fallen out of a tree as he's a daredevil climber but not a terribly graceful one. Our usual vet recommended VCA due to the emergency nature of the situation, so we went straight away and were seen in about 10 or 15 minutes. The word "emergency" and the insistence from our vet to visit had us fearing for the worst, but the professionalism and friendliness of the staff put us at ease. We previously had a cat that lived to 15 years without any major medical issues that we never took to the vet. I suppose you could say the vet makes us as nervous as any furry friend. Dr. Howes however, was kind, understanding, and patient with our less than enthused cat. She took him briefly for an ultrasound and when she came back his wounds had been cleaned and treated and he had been given something to flush out his bladder and aid with hydration. The entire process (check-in + exam + checkout) took a little less than an hour. We were sent off with antibiotics and pain medication that has helped tremendously the last few days and he is practically himself again already. This place has OK services and are professional, but reason I switched to different vet is that not only my dog was not getting good attention to his condition but the doctor could not diagnose his condition right at the first place, also she could not propose the safest and latest treatment plans. My husband and I did a lot of research about our dog's condition after the doctor diagnosed his condition as arthritis. At the next visit we proposed what we found out and then doctor agreed to do a special test to see if his condition was what we thought. The test results supported our proposed diagnosis and she agreed. It was nice that she was not offended about it however she did not come up with appropriate treatment plans. She rather not to treat it now or suggested older treatment method which could have been dangerous. So we found out this new medication which was approved by FDA in 2010. (Internet is great !) So we proposed that to her and again, she agreed. But we are the one who came up with the right diagnosis and treatment plan which is working well, so why we paid them fee for services? But we still stayed with them for a while, just giving them second / third chances for over 9 months. But our feeling that our dog was not getting good attention to his condition grew bigger over time. Every time they called us up for test results, their answers were rather quick, such as "his results are OK' not giving us much detail or professional insights for his expensive test, which he has to have periodically to adjust his medication. After a while we switched to another vet who is more personable and does seem to be sincere and compassionate, processes medication refill request much faster than Foothill. We also have a doubt about Foothill giving us hard time renewing prescription refill for online pet medication store we are using as Foothill charges almost double of the price for the same exact medications. Also their pricing for the test our dog needs was the highest among other vet I called and inquired prices. I am just describing what we experienced with this place. It seems majority of Foothills clientele are older pet owners who may just accept whatever doctors say without knowing what else new out there in the market or what the latest research shows. read more

I found three kittens and called around Pasadena to look for a vet to look at them. I knew they had fleas but I didn't know if they might have something else. Quite a few places refused to talk to me and even told me after I said "stray kittens" that they weren't taking any new clients. Foothill Vet did help me out and even waived the office visit fee because I was helping the kittens. One kitten didn't look so good but they nursed her back to health and she's right here next to me, purring. The other two were adopted out to loving homes. So sad for the other vets, but Foothill Vet has a client for life. read more

My family and I have taking our pets to Foothill Vet for a number of years. We even moved an hour away, and we entrusted their services with our new Pomeranian puppy in 2007. Well, for the past year, I kept taking our once puppy that is now 10 years old for her checkups and vaccinations at F.V.H., but for some reason over the past year, every time I took her in with a cough, I was told it was Kennel Cough, heart sounding good, and antibiotics were prescribed. She just had her last physical during June 2017 with normal results. The Doctor even commented on how young she acted, even though she was 10. Dulce portrayed lots of energy. Dulce's reminder card of having her next physical of December came in the mail, and it was even wrong. It had in her record that she was receiving heart worm medication. This past Sunday, my Dulce collapsed in front of me, and I hurried her to the nearest Emergency Hospital. She was diagnosed with fluid on her lungs, heart failure on the left and right side, and stage 5 leukemia. Needless to say, how disheartening it was to let her go. Very disappointed in the service I received, and when I phoned to speak to a Dr. regarding what had happened to Dulce, the receptionist said "I couldn't speak to a Dr. but I could speak to the Office Manager, but wait , I'm sorry the Office Manage isn't in and can't call you until tomorrow". Really!!! The company has lost our business for good. read more

Zero: This hospital does not care about the customer or the dog. I had planned on going weekly to get my dog medicated baths for his skin allergies but that was quickly nipped in the bud by extremely poor customer service that is when I realize they just want money not for your dog to get well. First of all, I was warned by other pet owners I know to steer clear of them because of this same reason. But, I decided not to listen to hearsay and warnings and to see if this was true. First visit was with a coupon off the VCA website for a Free Health Exam and at this particular location you can walk in without an appt. Convenient and nice I thought. The Vet saw us about 30 min after arriving and checking in. She observed he had been scratching and was irritated but no signs of fleas or ticks. So, she informed me that she was going to scrape him and then give him a shot. She did not tell me that I was going to be charged for that and then says she is going to have some give him a medicated bath and that would be $38 dollars that was fine and then she wanted me to purchase 6 pills for $103. I told her no thank you I will just give him Benedyrl since I had read on the internet that it will help with this issue as long as you do not give the liquid that has alcohol in it. So, after that conversation she barely wanted to finish the exam. After his bath was done and I picked him up and the Free Health Exam turned into $136.00 for Scraping, the shot, and the bath. So, the next week I return 7 days later to be exact I bring the dog in for a medicated bath only. They claim they have no record of my dog in the system and that I wasn't there the previous weekend. After showing them their receipt from the previous week she goes in the back of the place and comes back up front mysteriously with info on my dog; bu,t the vet did not complete the dog's info so I told her what occurred and she wrote the information on the card and logged it in the system. I guessed the vet was pissed that I was not buying her 6 pills for $103. But, she still got me. LOL Then, she tells me I can not get him a bath because it is after 9am....I told her that the previous week we were here about 11am and he had a bath. She then wanted proof of shots which I gave them the week before obviously the vet didn't note it on the card so I had to go back out to the car and get the info. She logged that in and then said she can not give him a bath without a Flu Shot. I should have walked out but I was tired and had other things to do and no time to research for another place on such short notice so I said OK to the $21.00 shot. She finally agreed to give him the bath once I agreed to the shot. I come back and my bill is $73 dollars WTF happened in 2hrs. Come to find out the shot was listed on the bill as a Temporary Shot for $21.00 and the Medicated Bath that was $38 last week is $46 this week. So, I inquired about why was the Medicated Bath $46 this week and last week it was $38. She said that this week my dog is being classified as a large dog not a medium dog. So, my dog grew in a week? She said, no the paper you have from the pound says the dog weighs 70lbs. But, since I had the dog he has lost weight and she did not even bother to weigh him to confirm what was on the paperwork I had that was dated months ago, and I know he was not weighed when I brought him in for the FREE Health Exam. So, what really sealed the deal for me based on what others were saying about avoiding this place was when she said. Since he is a now a large dog you just got off easy last week. I don;t know what was going on here last week. So, based on that response I said charge me what you want because we will not be returning. She was fine with that I paid and left never to return and to spread the word on all the blogs and everywhere to awoid this place like the plague unless you want to be ripped off. They are about the money. If she had said, OK we made a mistake and I will charge you $38 this time since that was what you were expecting. But, going forward he will be considered a Large dog and we will charge you $46 then I would have been cool with that considering how shotty they kept records and treated the whole situation by not having the info in their system etc.... But, it's all good because I am spreading the word and helping others avoid the drama of rude, inefficient, poor customer service front office staff person. But, no ill will because in the process I found The Dog Zone in Monrovia still on Foothill but at Myrtle next door to Von's they give him a medicated bath, trim nails, clean ears for $35 dollars out the door. And, get this no appointment needed just bring in between 7am -2pm (7days a week). They are very friendly and customer service is the BOMB! They are very concerned about your dog and will walk you dog out and put him in the car. Although, I live in Altadena it is worth the drive to Monrovia for excellent customer servic read more

Foothill Veterinary Hospital is a clean animal hospital with competent, friendly staff. We have taken one of our dogs there on several occasions because he always seems to develop health problems on Saturdays when our preferred vet is closed and Foothill is open. Foothill operates on a walk-in basis only. The wait times using this system are actually often shorter than at our regular vet where we make appointments, but the downside is that there is no continuity in care. You may get a different vet every time you go. I really don't think this is a good model for health care. The prices here are also much higher than at other area veterinarians, and Foothill has a way of tagging you with costs they don't get approved in advance. When we were there a few weeks ago for an ear infection, we ended up with a $40 charge for "cleaning and medicating" our dog's ear (on top of the high office visit fee). As long-time parents to swimming dogs with floppy ears, we are perfectly able to clean and medicate our dog's ear ourselves, and in fact had to do so for 10 days thereafter per the doctor's instructions. It beats me why no one asked us if we wanted to pay to have it done there. When we inquired with the staff, they were unapologetic and unable to offer an explanation for why they did this. My other gripe is that we have pet insurance and the doctors at Foothill are unbelievably slow in filling out the required paperwork. We actually missed the filing deadline for one claim because the vet would not return the form to us. Given the prices they charge, they should do everything they can to help keep costs manageable for patients. In sum, we'll probably keep going here on the occasional Saturday when an urgent care issue comes up because it is convenient, but we definitely won't be using this vet hospital for our primary care. read more

im as paranoid as it gets and we went to another vet 1st which the doctors there where very young. they meant well of course but u cant beat experience. our puppy had an issue after a simple spayed and we kept taking her to them to the other vet and different stuff will come up with a growing number of diagnosis as well as the bill, so we went to foothill vet and the experienced doc with only one look said the puppy was fine, and that sometimes "that" simple problem happens and gave us simple/common meds and we where on our way and soon our puppy was well and no problems since. its also next to the 24 hour emergency animal clinic so in a way it helps. read more

I have been going to Foothill for years and I will never go anywhere else! The staff is very friendly and attentive to my concerns. Dr. O'Dwyer is the best! Very kind, caring and thorough! As soon as she walks into the room, she gets down on her knees to say hi to my dog. She is always available to answer questions/concerns when I call. This vet USED to be great...then staff changed..my in-laws had a terrible experience there and immediately pulled their paperwork and went to La Canada..then our dog who had been going there for years (of excellent service)..went after non-stop ear scratching, and it was an automatic diagnosis of an ear infection. When we got him back this time he was returned to us absolutely FILTHY and sad (which NEVER happens at the doggy daycare bath or no bath "I dig my dog" is GREAT!!) when asked what the f*** happened, why was our dog so dirty we were answered with a blank...they always get like that..they would have bathed him, but we came too soon, but they would charge us for an extra day if they did (after some 'talking', they did bath him at no extra cost, but he remained sad all day at home-I am not a crazy dog person--but you can just see it. Then later came a bump on his ear..we thought it was a cyst, they said no, and it was nothing. Then his shoulder swelled up horribly a little while later. We took him in immediately, and a biopsy was done. The 'nothing' cyst was a tumor that had spread to his shoulder and leg. An aggressive form of cancer..we put him down immediately. Dr. Howes(sp?) had just returned from maternity leave, and was our saving grace through the rest of our situation..she was amazing. When we get a new dog, we will not go back there. VCA just isn't for me. You can't make an appointment. You get there and it is a circus type atmosphere. The admin. staff don't explain anything or make you feel welcome. Then, when you see a vet, they were too busy talking to one another about their personal vegetable gardens. After, all of that I should have just left. But, instead I my dog was scene and prescribed 4 medicines which none of them worked and I had to go to another vet, to fix everything that they did and couldn't do. Save your money and go somewhere else. Then, go to check out they are way understaffed, nothing was explained, half-hearted and it took nearly 30 minutes to pay my bill and get the medications of which none of them worked. I've been bringing my dog here for the last 5 years. Never again. During the last visit, my dog kept scratching to the point where his skin was raw. I asked the Dr. if he had flees or ticks, etc. The Dr said no and just gave me some spray for his skin. One month later, my dog is still scratching. Last night, I found some little insects on his dog bed. Sure enough, I checked him again and he has flees, ticks, etc. 30 days of unnecessary suffering. read more

We've only had great experiences so far after bringing our dear pooch here. The staff is kind, efficient and caring. The lobby is comfy and friendly. And most of all, the vets are extremely empathetic and sensitive. Today we had to bring our baby in, and they did everything they could to make him feel better. And, when they needed to do extra work, they tried to make it easier on our pocket books. One of the great things about this place is that they don't take appts., so you can come in anytime during open office hours, which is very convenient! read more

I took my dog here from when he was a puppy. They gave various shots, and helped me fix simple problems such as eye infections and ear infections. They even helped me fix a skin infection that another vet had problems with. However, they are not equipped to do more complex testing themselves: any blood or fecal tests they just send to a lab somewhere, and they can't do such procedures as endoscopies. But they are thorough for what they do: when my dog had an ear infection they were good enough to clean out the ears for us before starting the meds (other vet's I've been to don't do this!). So basically, a good general vet. Notice how I keep saying "They"? Thats because there are a bunch of vets here, so depending on which day you go and how busy they are, you might get a different vet treating your animal each time. Not a huge problem, but a bit odd. I think they are also on the expensive side. read more

Found this place online. Our normal vet clinic was all booked up so took my senior dog Panda here being that they always accept walk-ins. He was showing symptoms of kennel cough and the hacking sound worried me. Front desk was very nice. Got in a room within ten minutes. Dr. Thomas was the vet that helped us and she is hands down the best vet I've ever encountered. She's very compassionate, knowledgeable, patient, and gentle. Panda is a rescue dog and can get very anxious but she made him feel so comfortable. Answered all my questions and was just overall great. She prescribed my dog antibiotics as well as a cough suppressant. Meds were pricey but it was expected. The initial visit was waived since it was our first time there. So grateful for that. This is where I come to get all my dog's check ups and paperwork when I am about to travel with my dog, They do make you wait if you walk in without an appointment but the wait is usually 2-5 mins maximum, nothing out of the ordinary, They treat the dogs with respect and over all is cheap! I don't even have to use my Dog's insurance when I go which in most places you do need to due to the fact that they want to run an incredible amount of tests on your dog that you did not ask for. Here they simply do what you ask them and what the basic check up needs. I find this extremely helpful. some people might like the whole "Oh yes a broken nail, well we are going to run an X-ray on his stomach to make sure his acid fluids and bone structure is ok, Also We want to prescribe him this expensive medicine for gastritis since he looks a bit weird, yet i won't take any test to confirm he has gastritis." I had the best experience today at this clinic. From the ample parking, no appt needed, welcoming and friendly staff, fantastic vets, affordable prices, and I was in and out in 30 minutes! Dr. Bell was knowledgeable and understanding. My dog is already improving. I've finally found a vet I feel like I can trust. I adopted a puppy from the Humane Society yesterday and brought her in to the Foothills VCA for a new puppy check up. During the examination the vet noticed that she was sneezing but because I had just adopted her didn't feel the need to treat it at that time. He told me to call back if it continues or got worse.. The puppy has been sneezing all day today. I called from work to see if there was anything that they could do over the phone since she was just in yesterday and the sneezing was noted by the vet. However, the vet that saw her wasn't in and didn't document the fact that she was sneezing yesterday. So when I got home from work I rushed her over and walked in the door slightly before 5:30. There were other people waiting at the counter so by the time they got to me it was 5:35. I realize they close at 5:30; however, I was in the office before 530. They refused to see her and told me to take her to the emergency vet. I doubt I'll be back... read more

We're from out of town, visiting relatives for Christmas. Lo and behold, our 90lb dog found the 2lb box of See's chocolates and inhaled it while our backs were turned. Found Foothill on yelp, called them up, and whisked her in for a stomach cleansing and charcoal detox. Very friendly place, very helpful and reassuring vet (O'Dwyer). We were fortunate to come in early; the waiting room was pretty full when we were done, so this place is popular. I'm in agreement with the folks that rated this place well. read more

Foothill Veterinary has treated our 9 year-old hound since we first brought him in for a puppy check-up. The staff have always been professional, concerned and have gone way beyond expectations to care for our dog. Throughout all of the health issues that dogs can get into, they have been always ready to help. With a staff of several doctors, waits are always minimal, even at really busy times, and the treating doctor has always been familiar with our dog's medical history to continue with informed treatment. We were referred to Foothill Veterinary by neighbors and have always felt fortunate to be associated with such a fine pet clinic. read more

I had a very sickly cat that was well into his 20's. He had everything wrong with him for the past decade or more, but had been holding his own. At the end he began going downhill pretty fast. When I came home he was pretty much shutting down and it was time. I called the VCA Hospital and was a bit uncomfortable as I had never been there before and then had to inquire about euthanasia. They were nice, clear and informative and gave the hour that they would be open until. I did take my cat in. As upset as I was the Dr., I believe Dr. Morris, could not have been more comforting, compassionate and reassuring that I was doing the right thing. I would recommend. read more

I had to put down my beloved Labrador retriever "Mickey" 3 weeks ago. He was 15yrs. 2mo. old, cared for at this hospital by 10 or more doctors, who were all very professional, thank you. My regret is that the doctor turnaround is so high that we couldn't establish any personal connections after 15 years & probably $30,000.The doctor who euthanized him was new to us. Didn't hear from them at all after, as if nothing has happened, while I'm still crying everyday for losing my soulmate. The vet clinic that I went only 2 months sent a heartfelt condolence card. A little more personal touch would be nice to entrust your best friend. read more
