We have been taking our dog here for about 3 years. Although in some ways visiting the vet these days is the same as visiting the human doctor, with all of the same insurance hassles and requirements, we can easily say that the staff here are caring and courteous and do their best by us at all times. Our dog has had some complicated medical issues from the start to do with her stomach and her skin and they stuck by us through it all, including a false pregnancy concern right when we were scheduling her spay. They are professional and the office itself is fun to hang out in - they always decorate for the holidays and have a board up that has the names of all the pets coming in that day - which we think is a nice touch. They will still observe COVID-19 protocol if you want to, and you can wait in the car, ie. no contact. Shoutout and thank you in particular to Dr. Plosky. We appreciate you all. read more

I have been with VCA West Seattle Veterinary Hospital for a year now with my two rescue cats. I love VCA's "no fear" philosophy for working with animals. When they give vaccinations, they give Churu to keep the animal calm and in their happy place. With my former cat, who passed away in old age, I had gone to another WS vet clinic, where there was really only one veterinarian I liked. At VCA, so far I have liked all the veterinarians who have worked with my fur babies. I think it's sweet, too, that they put my cats' names on the welcome board when I bring them in for their appointment. We've been visiting VCA WS for many years now, having moved to the area in 2017. We have two dogs and have brought the younger one since he was a puppy. The staff here is always kind, friendly, and lovely to work with. I love the vets, the vet techs, the reception staff - all of them. They have consistently taken good care of our dogs. Recently we had to say goodbye to our older dog at home following a rapidly declining cancer diagnosis that we had gotten from an ER vet. After that, my husband noticed that we were still getting email reminders for our dog from VCA and worried that if I was getting them too, that they would upset me. He contacted VCA to give them a heads up that our girl was no longer around. To my surprise, we received a card from VCA yesterday that was FILLED with hand-written notes from staff around the clinic and included a little seed sheet for some wildflowers to plant in our dog's honor. I was incredibly touched and rather than making me sad, it felt so very uplifting to be acknowledged by the team who had taken such good care of her over the years. It was a beautiful gesture and I'm going to save that card for when I feel sad again - the comments were so kind. Thank you, VCA, for creating a community and supporting us through the ups and downs of being a pet parent. BRING YOUR ANIMALS ELSEWHERE. Very disappointed in the lack of customer service with this location. Called in as my dog was sick, and they said they couldn't get him in for 3 weeks. So we went elsewhere. Then we had a scheduled appointment to get his routine check-up and puppy shots, and they cancelled on us 5 hours before, and said we could reschedule for 6 weeks from now. We've been loyal VCA patrons for years and never had an issue with the clinic. We moved and wanted to stick with VCA so we called VCA West Seattle. We just adopted a new puppy who needs his puppy shots and called on November 1. They said the soonest we could be seen was November 21, so we waited because we really loved VCA. Well they just cancelled our appointment the same day, due to an "emergency" which is actually just short staffing. And the soonest they offered to get us in was December 13!!! I explained that our dog was a puppy and he needed his shots and couldn't wait that long and they made no effort to get us in sooner. Most of the clinics in the area were closed when my puppy had stomach issues and I am very fortunate these guys fitted me into the schedule on that day on a weekend Saturday no less. They're covid conscious and consulted me on how I should handle the upset stomach every step of the way. The doctor and staff even called me personally to let me know of test results (which were really fast) as well as checking in on the dog. First I would like to extend our most sincere "Thank You" to Dr. Plosky, Dr Uhl and their entire team of techs and support staff over at our VCA on California. The past year was a real challenge on many levels but I would also like to acknowledge our "front line" workers who work with our family pets. Although it may not be how we all prefer to do business, We appreciate the safety measures you have taken to keep yourselves and us safe. You have managed this unprecedented time very well without loosing personal touch with your clients (and their humans). With limited contact, the staff at VCA did there very best to fit us in or offer support the best they could. It was appreciated. West Seattle VCA and Dr Helen Plosky have been our exclusive vet for our sweet boy Chaise (mixed breed pooch of awesomeness) a total of 13+ years. Over those years Chaise and our family felt as though our team at VCA became a part of our extended family. Over the past couple of years as Chaise became older, we obviously had more visits. This past year, we were made aware of some kidney issues, mobility issues, hearing loss, etc. Dr Plosky took so much extra time via phone during quarantine to follow up on exams (which there were many this past year). Our old dude was struggling. Conversations were always very compassionate and honest. Not only did Dr Plosky know our pup but she also knew our kiddos who would sometimes come with us to our appointments. 2020 was extremely difficult on so many levels but it was also the year we watched our handsome and sweet boy decline. With care and compassion, we were forced to have more sensitive and honest conversations about the progression of Chaise's kidney disease and what things might look like over the next few months. WSVCA was always there to help and support us. By December Dr. Uhl began seeing Chaise as well, and helped guide us through some tough conversations regarding quality of life. The vet team works together on many things but She handled herself with understanding and kindness. Our sweet boy was not going to be with us much longer and these tough but real conversations aren't easy but we sincerely appreciated the honesty in helping us decide what was best for Chaise. He declined very quickly over the next few days and we ended up calling WSVCA for assistance. Dr. Uhl cleared an opening for us that same day. Sadly, we had to let him go that afternoon with the care and support of Dr. Uhl and the VCA support staff. The allowed us to come in with a few of his things from home and be with him. He is now prancing around with old and new friends at the big dog park in the sky. In addition to the wonderful care, We also received a beautiful and thoughtful sympathy card signed by all the staff. I completely disagree with comments about West Seattle VCA caring only about money. The quality of care of support received at West Seattle VCA has been incredible. And in the end, that is what has mattered most to us. I wouldn't trust anyone else. read more

They actually diagnosed and treated him for Kidney disease starting 2 years ago. When we called to get an appointment, they were not concerned and couldn't make an appointment for him for 2 weeks. So we asked to speak to the manager. It was like an assembly line of people picking up pets who'd had procedures. We were told someone would call when they were available, so we left. Our dog was drooling and seemed very out of it. We called again, but none one was available. Several hours later someone called us, but wasn't much help. Perhaps this would be in the chart. Absolutely horrible place. My dog was having trouble breathing. This place is 5 minutes from my house. I called to see if I could bring her in due to the emergency. They told me no. While I was scrambling to find another close place, my dog passed away. It was about 25 minutes after I spoke to them. If I had been able to bring her in, they might have been able to save her. This place deserves every negative review they get. Clearly they don't care about the lives of animals. Edit: "didn't have the ability" is the response I get?? No. You had the ability and chose not to. Every vet office I've ever been to there has been a time I have had to wait patiently while an emergency was tended to. I called and told you my dog was dying and you told me to take her to someplace an hour away. Just like hospitals, if there is an emergency that takes priority. After my dog spent a few years living with family in the Caribbean, I brought him up here to live with me. Due to various factors, he contracted heart worms while living there. I called around to various vets, and VCA was the only one that was willing to even try to treat him. Yes i get it- heart worms are very serious and life threatening, but what kind of doctor are you if you aren't willing to treat the 'really' sick patients? (Btw my dog was not even symptomatic) Anyway, vca ordered his meds(at the time there was a regional waitlist) and we started his treatment. The staff were always accessible to answer questions and called to check on him several times during his treatment. Took a few months of meds and bed rest, but my doggie is happy and healthy today, and just an overall bundle of joy :) They were willing to treat him when nobody else would, and for that we are loyal patients that won't go elsewhere. read more

With a cat that needs the meds to keep eating I was worried since it was Friday. So I asked where to get the meds that day and she repeated her policy. This continued with her ignoring my question. I got upset with her for ignoring my question. Then she got rude and I said she was useless. ALL I WANTED TO KNOW WAS WHERE TO GET MY PRESCRIPTION FILLED. My cat was deathly ill. I needed help. I had a concern with the vet hospital due to receiving orders I didn't want. They were very helpful and corrected the error within a few days and my account was credited. Since then, their service has been top notch. I have an older dog and they have taken very good care of her special needs. They found a diet that worked after correctly diagnosing an intestinal problem. After initially losing about 10 pounds, she is regaining weight and has more energy. read more

We initially chose this vet for their convenient location and optional payment plan for puppies. Up until the last month or so we had a fine experience; easy scheduling, quality care, compassionate vets. I had made it clear that I wanted to wait beyond 6 months for our pup to be spayed. We decided back in August we would have the procedure in December. I called to ensure this was going to fit in with the payment plan and the vet tech said it would be no issue. At the end of November, I called in to schedule our pup to be spayed. The person I talked to proceeded to lecture me for not spaying our pup sooner, questioning my decision and the research I had done. They insisted that the vet needed to call me before we could schedule the spaying and that was the end of our call. Never got a call from the vet. Called the next day and scheduled the spaying no problem. Yesterday, our pup went in for her procedure. On the paperwork I indicated not to clip her nails and verbally let the vet tech know that her nails did not need to be clipped. We are lucky to have a pup who does not mind having her nails clipped at home so there was no need to have them clipped during her visit. When I picked her up they brought her out in the crate we went over discharge and we went home. That night as our pup was walking around I noticed her nails had been clipped. Upon looking closer I noticed numerous nails were clipped well into the root. Our pup is very good about having her nails clipped and that combined with being under anesthesia there should have been no struggle in clipping her nails correctly if it was necessary for the procedure. What disappoints me the most is that I was not told her nails had been clipped nor was it documented on any of the discharge and procedure summary paperwork. I went in this morning a spoke to a kind and apologetic vet tech named Brynn who helped provide me with copies of our paperwork from previous visits in addition to helping turn off the auto renewal for their payment program. I considered giving the review 2 stars just on basis that most my interactions with the staff have been lovely, however, my experience with the condescending conversation I had in November and the borderline mutilation to my dogs nails have secured my one star review. read more

I brought my kitten there for his first visit and would've continued to go there untill I read the dispicable way they treated a dog that got hit by a car and needed emergency service. They refused treatment and sent the distraught owner 40 minutes away to one of there other facilities ..How could a veterinarian ever turn an animal away? This is despicable! I will never ever go to this horrible place again that is literally 5 minutes from me nor will anyone in West Seattle who reads the neighborhood blog. No wonder why your parking lot is always empty! She has taken EXCELLENT care of my service dog for the 5 years I've had him and now has been helping us nurse a rescue back to health for a couple of months. She's always very sweet to us, but more important, she's very caring towards our dogs. We have not had any "extra services" pushed on us, or charges for things such as unwanted tests, or wiping the table after weighing our dogs, or other such things I read in a review. OK, let's just get this out of the way - VCA vets are not cheap, if you shop around you can easily find services for less, however I believe you get what you pay for and the level of service at VCA West Seattle is amazing. I have 2 cats and a dog that receive care at this VCA. Everyone from the front desk staff to the vets are great. They are very accommodating and understanding. I can't say enough about Dr. Plosky. VCA is fine for getting vaccines but if you need an appointment in the next two days (has happened 3 times in the last year unfortunately) as one of your pets is sick they will not have a spot open. Fine - they are busy - it happens. Unfortunately, they are also negligent. Our cat wasn't doing so well so we brought her in. We were told to monitor her and then bring her back Saturday if she hadn't improved. However, they did not save time for us on Saturday and even if they had, they didn't have the staff present to treat her. This wasn't an attempt on their end to make extra money - it was bad vet care plain and simple. But hey - the people are nice. read more

I have to say that as a particular pet owner that I have never found a vet or an office that I've felt cared more about my animals. I've recently had vet experiences where I have had to been shuffled through 1 out of like 10 vets on staff and you never know what you are going to get! That is not the case for VCA in West Seattle! I felt like a blubbering idiot when I called yesterday and was asking question after question about vaccines, shots, and how to get my newly adopted pet filled out for paperwork as we have an upcoming trip! I felt that the vet cared a ton about Pixie my pup! He explained all of the shots and options as well as costs $$$ which is huge! Usually I go to a vet and they are like well your animal needs this, this and this and then I go into shock when I look at the bill. You never know what to expect! The Manager of the Hospital Bernadette came out and introduced herself to me and we discussed my concerns with some of my past vet experiences! Having a primary vet is like having a primary care physician-I personally want 1 or 2 people that know me and my pets! I'm so impressed that I am switching my cats to this facility as well! Jodi the receptionist was awesome, funny and welcoming! I work in the Pet industry and I can say I have extremely high standards and my pets are the most important thing to me in the world and I really felt that they were valued by the staff and vet at VCA and I was treated like a paranoid, caring pet owner and I felt empowered with my knowledge instead to care for my pet which means the world! All Smiles here!!! And the free exam for being a new client was the icing on the cake! GREAT find! If you like your Vet to recommend unnecessary services, recommend foods filled with by-product and gluten, give you attitude, and charge you twice as much as other vets, then this is your place! When I first adopted my dog, she had parasites. We went through antibiotics, tested again ($10 more the second time), this time she had giardia. Finally, we were going to do a third test to make sure things were clear. The price went up another $5. I called around and decided to test elsewhere, turned out I could save $20 at other vets. I just felt taken advantage of. We want to trust our vets with our pets lives, and are willing to do whatever it takes. I have recently moved to West Seattle and had been "interviewing" different vet clinics... going in and seeing the facilities, etc. I have decided on VCA and don't regret my decision at all! The first thing I noticed and LOVED about the clinic is the different entrances for dogs and cats. The most stressful thing for myself and my kitty when going to previous vet clinics is sitting in the waiting room with dogs barking and lunging at my cat cage trying to get to my cat. I was fully and completely prepared for the "speal" on how my fury kid needs all these unnecessary tests, shots, etc, etc. Come to find out I didn't need to prepare myself at all which was a huge relief. They seemed to genuinely care about my cat AND my wallet. I have read other reviews on how the clinic is a bit pricey and I prepared myself for that too. It is West Seattle after all!! Everything is pricier here; we all should know that by now! Overall... great job VCA! If all my visits are as pleasant as my last one they will forever have my business. read more

I don't necessarily think they are expensive considering how wonderful they are. They are thorough, informative and very understanding.
