I always like to be honest and detailed when giving a review. I never want to speak ill of a person or business based off one experience, but first impressions are everlasting. The staff, with the exception of the doctor, were great. Friendly, professional, and courteous. I brought my 8 week old Yorshire Terrier (Tik Tok) in after consulting with Just Answer (online vet service) and the veterinarian I was in contact with suggested I bring him to the emergency room because he was too small to be experiencing the symptoms he was having. He hadn't eaten since earlier that day, his body was limp and favoring one side, he couldn't stand. After the doctor did an assessment, she says it could be a neurological disorder, TBI (which I suffer from being a disbled veteran), or meningitis to name a few possibilities. I have only had the puppy for two days. I texted the breeder (Yorkies of Houston) as well. The doctor went into this summary with huge cost, saying for overnight and observation with treatment, it would start at $2,500, if it were neurological, that emergency visit would start at $5,000 at a referred emergency hospital. She wanted to give shots and antibiotics. They tested his blood sugar, it was 31. By the time I was told all this, the breeder called and after I explained, she said it was just the blood sugar. The breeder offered a puppy care manual. They still wanted to do the IV and a few other things, which my breeder said was unnecessary. How about after receiving dextrose, he was fine. Do you know they still wanted to offer an antibiotic and more treatment that would have cost a total close to $800? Thank God my breeder was up at midnight. I wouldn't suggest this business. I am thankful for the services they provided and the friendly staff. read more

I can't recommend VEG enough. Our girl got into something and got ivermectin toxicity. From the moment we arrived they took care of us. If we could give 0 rating we would. Our dog accidentally digested some fire ant poison from the yard and we rush him here since we're not sure how dangerous it is for him. Receptionist was nice. But, there's no sense of urgency from any of the staff. We told them what happened and they told us to call ASPCA poison center and confirm with ASPCA or the pet poison control on what to do. I mean isn't the whole reason for being emergency place is because they should know how to handle emergency? Instead we have to call the poison center to ask them what we should do while their personnels just chatting around. The place wasn't even busy. If your pet is your baby don't bother to bring your pet here. We gave them a try because they're close by, but we'd better off driving an extra 5 minutes to other pet emergency hospital. My dog was brutally attacked by a pit bull. The staff at Veterinary Emergency Group was able to see him right away and treat him for his wounds. Everyone was very kind and comforting. We brought in some sick puppies with the fear of aspiration and pneumonia and the vet tech that saw us was being very reckless handling the puppies. Then they proceed to tell us there is shift change and we are waiting in the room for 20 minutes, and may I mention these puppies are 11 days old and can't maintain their own body heat. And they are making us wait due to "team building exercises" and they are huddled in a circle talking about what is connecting mean to you. This is supposed to be a emergency vet and they are in the other room goofing off. Very unprofessional atmosphere and would not recommend if you're in here for a actual emergency. This place was amazing. We took our cat for the first time to the location near the Heights and were greeted by very friendly staff. They got us a room right away, were consistently nice and professional by keeping us posted on our cat's injuries. Prices are a bit high but they worked with us. I brought my 14 year old husky boy here late one evening after he ripped out his dew claw. I knew not much could be done in a clinic, but the amount of blood dripping from it was freaking me out a little. I called to see if they had any big emergencies at that minute (8:30 pm) and they said to bring him on in and they'd get him looked at. I field wrapped his paw as best I could and drove the 20 minutes there with him pulling off the wrap and proceeding to bleed all over my car. As soon as I got him out, the front desk staff could see bloody paw prints as he walked through the parking lot and brought us straight back to triage. The vet techs were amazing in handling him. I told them he doesn't really like having his paws touched, but he DOES love the attention he gets at the vet. We got a muzzle on him just in case and the ladies got his paw cleaned off, some quik-clot on, and a bandage for pressure faster than I could have imagined. Obviously because of his age and stress levels his blood pressure was pretty high, so clotting was taking longer than the doctor and techs were hoping and we were ushered into a quiet room for him to try to relax and allow the quik-clot to do its job. While in the room, triage was cleaned and we were checked on regularly to make sure we were okay. Once my fluff butt calmed down enough we were allowed to go home with proper instructions and were checked on the next morning to make sure the night went well. I tell this entire story to say that every single person I interacted with at this office was kind, knowledgeable, compassionate, and willing to joke with me about the amount of mess (stress fur and blood) my boy was leaving everywhere. They explained why they wanted us to stay a bit longer than expected and one of the techs took the time to sit in the room with us and let him get comfortable with her before trying to check his paw again. All in all this was the best non-emergency emergency that I have ever had a vet and I will definitely bring my fur babies here when they need to be seen again. read more

Our dog spent a week in a kennel while out of town and appeared to have picked up some bacteria - she was messing all over the house. We took her to this place thinking it was an obvious case of Giardia to get an antibiotic. They consulted with us on wether we wanted to move forward with the "high cost" ($1450) or "low cost" ($450) evaluations before proceeding. Ended up testing for Giardia and Fecal and said both were negative. We questioned them about the use of an antibiotic to treat the problem but they seemed more concerned with the dog's good gut balance than the pooping all over our house. Gave us a couple of pro-biotics and a nice little bag of swag for the dog but nothing to stop the diarrhea. So, we got to pay them $450 and got the e dog back to continue messing all over the house! read more

My foster puppy is currently at this emergency vet and it has been the most positive experience I have ever had with an emergency vet! I LOVE the open concept plan. I am able to come in and visit my foster baby any time day or night and can walk straight to his crate and open it to love on him without having to wait on staff. However, the staff are all right there (both vet techs and vets) so I can ask questions without wait and they can keep a close eye on my baby. My foster baby is having a few day stay there (very sick, had his second surgery at this clinic) and they have truly made it so much less stressful for me. The clinic is extremely clean, a safe space for my child with food allergies (they are a peanut and tree nut free facility), has complimentary coffee and snacks, and ample space for me to set up and work from the clinic. Compared to other clinics in the area, they are also very affordable! I highly recommend this emergency vet. read more

An emergency vet is never the place a pet parent wants to end up, and it certainly wasn't on our agenda today. Unfortunately, when our 2 month old kitten misjudged a coffee table to couch jump (that he has made numerous times), we didn't really have a choice. Lucky for us, Veterinary Emergency Group was the closest animal ER to where we live and we got our guy there post haste. The entire staff there was so welcoming and calming, offering this mess of a cat mom water and Kleenex while my partner was able to explain what happened. Every single staff member we interacted with was so calming and just really helped to deescalate our nerves and anxieties while also providing our kitten the best care. While I hope to not be a repeat customer, I will absolutely return to VEG for any emergency issue in our future. read more

Three weeks ago, my dog Ollie was severely attacked a coyotes while doing his business at 4:30am. We live in a very populated area in Fulshear and have a secure fence as well a four bright flood lights illuminating the backyard. Nonetheless, coyotes jumped the fence and grabbed Ollie by the neck throwing him over the fence. Somehow Ollie escaped and we manage to find him. A torn trachea, collapsed lung, massive abdominal tear, 100's of lacerations, multiple deep puncture wound, torn shoulder and torn back muscles, and a torn sclera (eye). I called VEG and asked them to have a team ready. They met us at the door and a team of at least 8 feverishly worked on Ollie. He was going into shock and his survival was dismal at best. He was intubated and stabilized. Their fine team and Dr. Garnier saved my dogs life! Ollie was ultimately transported by three VEG employees that turned their car into a makeshift ambulance. His limp body was rushed to another facility that could provide additional care. I'm happy to say that Ollie is finely home and is happy, alert, crazy hungry, and full of life. I can't thank the awesome staff and doctor at VEG as my dog would not be alive without them. read more

I have visited VEG twice since March. The first occasion, in March, I had taken my dog who was vomiting a lot to an emergency vet in Sugar Land. That was a bad experience. The same night after that visit I had to come back, but I went to VEG instead. I was really amazed at how kind and caring they were. I really like that you can be close by as they examine your pet. The last visit was early Sunday morning, April 16. He was vomiting blood and had bloody diarrhea. There was no one there waiting and they took us right in. I was able to sit close by as they worked. They really are the kindest people. The vets are super friendly, will answer your questions and explain everything to you. The technicians couldn't be kinder. They go out of their way to help you and will bring you a chair if you are visiting your pet. You can come anytime to visit and stay as long as you want. I had to leave my pup overnight. When I came back to pick him up the place was packed. Even though there were people waiting with their pets no one was rude, no one brushed off any questions. Every single person I spoke to took time to answer my questions. They were super kind to my pup, Rocky and even after I got him home I had to call and ask a question, they answered my question without hesitation. I will say that it is expensive but that isn't exclusive to this emergency room. For emergencies, this will be my go to. Oh and I want to say to the person who is saying it took a week for them to figure things out. First of all, it's very important as a pet owner to communicate to the vet what's going on. If a vet is having trouble figuring out what's going on then they are going to ask more questions. It's the pet owner's responsiblity to give as much information as possible. Secondly, there's usually more than one vet on duty at a time. If a vet is having an issue with a diagnosis, I really believe they will consult another vet. And finally, you can tell any emergency vet when you have to visit on the weekend (when your vet is closed) that you want your pet stabilized so you can get them to your regular vet when your vet opens. If they are on the up and up they will tell you, "absolutely". VEG will do that for you. You are not forced to leave your dog there for over a week. I highly recommend VEG. read more

I am somewhat hesitant to write this review but feel it's important for those that want to use. I loved the vet technicians and the doctor was nice. I brought my sick cat in on Saturday as he had not been eating for several days. The vet seemed hesitant to try to exam him as he can be very aggressive. After sedating him and running all the blood tests and X-rays, nothing "appeared" to be wrong. After he came to and before I left I was told they forgot to take a urine sample and didn't want to sedate him again. He still wasn't feeling well by Monday so I was able to get him into a cat vet on Monday. Turns out not only did he have a UTI infection but also had an abscessed tooth. I guess they never bothered looking into his mouth, even after he was sedated, it was very obvious upon examination. Those two procedures are basic for even a veterinary student. $1400 later at the Vet ER at least I know that his heart, liver, kidneys etc. we're fine. Houston Cat Hospital was wonderful, removing the infected tooth and treating his UTI. Just make sure if going to the ER you ask plenty of questions and that all the basics are covered. read more
