My dining mate and I decided to go to a vegetarian restaurant for lunch . The atmosphere is quite charming and comfortable. The background music was relaxing. The manager/owner Lisa was accomadating. The menu features appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, salads, a few pasta dishes, a variety of desserts, all plant based menus, and some items contain soy, nuts and gluten. We tried the soup of the day, a ginger carrot which was just okay, hardly any ginger flavor. The mushroom reuben was excellent as well as my grilled romaine salad. All were plated nicely, and hot food came out hot. I ordered the chick'nless nuggets which were dry and I asked for some mayo. The herb mayo was tasty. These nuggets were run of the mill variety one can buy in a store. The menu may be a bit pricey. All in all we would return and try other menu items. Please note prices reflect cash payment! I am so glad Waxhaw has a plant based restaurant about 10-15 minutes from my house. We went on a Saturday night closer to 8. I called before going to ensure it was okay to arrive 45 minutes before closing. I was told to come on by. We didn't feel rushed. I had the vanilla milkshake and the mushroom Reuben. My husband ordered the chili cheeseburger, but he received chili cheese fries. He was asked if he wanted his cheeseburger, and he opted to keep the chili fries. We shared the caprese appetizer and the mushroom Reuben. The mushroom Reuben was delicious. My husband was impressed. very excited to try the Crabby Patty. It was a delicious alternative to the real thing and I was happy I could enjoy it. The service was so friendly, attentive, and prompt; the staff make you feel right at home. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and has a familial atmosphere. I always love when restaurants use creative decor and table settings, not having everything be monotonous and the same. I tried to Bahn mi to the MAX which was great! Great food and inviting environment. We have been for lunch and dinner. The room is usually pretty full but everything moves quickly. We really enjoyed the Korean tacos and I loved the tofu bahn mi. This place is quaint and the staff is friendly. I'm vegetarian so I was very excited to try this place out. I got a burger and chili. I've had the beyond burger tons of times so I was pretty sure it would be fine. It was just so so. The chili was different but I wouldn't order it again. They pretty much seem to use frozen vegan meats and make little with a great taste. My daughter (who is not vegan or vegetarian) had the chicken and waffles. The syrup was so hot (spicy) that she had a hard time eating it. And the "friendly " staff recommended that the "next" time she get the syrup on the side. Not we'll fix your order. We travel a lot with our RV. In a new area, we search for Vegan or Vegetarian restaurants. Some have been just OK, and a select few have been WOW! Oklahoma had one of those WOW restaurants. Spokane, Washington, was close to WOW! This week we are in Matthews, NC, and the reviews on this were outstanding. So we visited this restaurant, and it deserves a WOW. We went two days in a row. First visit we had a carrot cake, Eggplant parmesan, Crabby Patty and Mac and Cheezzz. On our second visit we had Lemon Cake, Crabby Patty, Creamy Linguine, Bohn Mi to the Max & Mac & Cheezzz. We loved all of it. They said the desert was from a bakery nearby. This restaurant is a gem, and we will visit it again before we leave. Found this little gem on accident when another restaurant we planned on eating at was had a long wait. We ate the Sunday brunch and it was delicious. Gave it another shot a few days later to try the dinner menu. Everything was great. We ordered the Cauliflower appetizer and the carrot ginger soup to start with. I have an aggressive stage iv metastic cancer so I have to be picky on my diet. The food quality, service and total value exceeded all expectations and mine were high based on the pictures and prior reviews. The waitress was excellent catering to my symptoms which include being TEMPORARILY hearing impaired, while the owner was the cherry on top at the end. I will get dessert next time I'm back! 2 problems: First, I ordered the eggplant Parmesan. The menu would have been more accurate to describe this as fettuccine with tomato sauce with eggplant croutons. Three small thin slices of eggplant were deep fried to the consistency of leather and no taste of eggplant sitting on top a plate of pasta. I love eggplant so I found the dish quite dissatisfying. Secondly I got the bill to find all the prices marked up to odd dollar amounts. The $20 eggplant Parmesan was now $23.92. When I inquired I was shown the small print on the bottom of the menu stating that all menu items were discounted to be the " cash price." No where was the markup percentage given and it was a distinctly unpleasant surprise. I know other restaurants that pass on the credit card processing fees but they generally explain it on the bill where the patron has at least some chance of seeing it. I find this restaurant's practice to be deliberately deceptive. read more

Veggeez is one of the few places in Waxhaw where you can have a conversation with a normal voice. There is background music, but it is just that - background music. Did I say how good the food is? If you are a traditional omnivore, you will be hard pressed to know the burger is not beef. And so it goes through the entire menu. You can drink their beer or wine handoputs, or BYOB. read more

We really wanted to like this place. First, the positives. Cute space, bright with big picture windows on 3 sides. Eclectic (think second-hand/antique) furnishings and tables set a nice distance from each other. Menu clearly marked with allergen information and as someone who must avoid gluten, that's very important to me. The limeade drink was refreshing and nicely sweetened. The spinach and artichoke dip was delicious, but the gf chips served with it were subpar. Maybe the pita chips would have been better but again, I need gluten free options. For the first 20 minutes we were there, we were the newest customers and one can assume all other guests' orders had been taken and were being worked on. Now for the negatives: the artichoke dip plates remained on our table loooong after we'd finished it. They finally cleared those plates and assured us our main courses would be out soon. 30 minutes later, our food still had not arrived. Mind you, I ordered the cabbage and arugula salad and hubby ordered the seared romaine hearts, should have been easy-peasy, right? Well, we suspect they forgot to put in our order. But you would have thought that 30 minutes of several servers passing by our empty table would have given someone the hint that our food never came. I was pointedly making eye contact with them as they passed but no one took the hint. (??!!) This was our wedding anniversary "celebration" and we tried to be extra patient and not complain to one another too much. But after I saw a guest who arrived about 30 minutes after us get served her food, I finally went up to the host station to inquire as to what happened to our meal. We saw a flurry of hushed conversation between a couple of the servers, one of whom apologized and said the owner would come out to speak with us. The owner did come out twice. By this time our food had arrived. The owner apologized but not in an apologetic way, if you know what I mean. Like she really didn't mean it and didn't want the restaurant to take the blame for our slow service. Like, if not them, then who? Weird. To be fair, I'll admit she offered a free dessert to make up for the service and later, after we complained that neither dish had any flavor, she comped the whole meal. We appreciated that but again, her apology didn't seem genuine. That may seem like nitpicking on my part, but when you've been sitting in a place for the better part of an hour with only an appetizer in your belly and others are being served before you even though they arrived after you got there, you want a sincere-sounding apology, something that makes you feel they're really regretful about their lack of professionalism and that, even more, they appreciate your extreme patience with their incompetence. So, bottom line, I hope this review encourages them to get it together with their service. And even if you forget to put in a customer's order (a cardinal sin for a restaurant, IMHO, but we're all human, so...) then at least be attentive enough to said customers' table to see that they've not been served yet and then realize how much time has passed. That's restaurant service 101, for chrissakes! Like I said, we really wanted to like this restaurant. We're committed to supporting fully vegan restaurants and we hope this one does well. They're newly opened and maybe having a steep learning curve, and that's why I gave 3 stars vs. the one star I think they deserved for such a huge oversight. And season that food, y'all! read more
