PALAK PANEER (GF) SAMOSA (V) MANGO LASSI
Colby V.

First time at Vegz and i was so happy that i stopped in. i ordered the Palak Paneer, Samosa and mango lassi. Palak Paneer came with rice. i dined in and was pleasantly surprised about how delicious my food was. the samosas was honestly the best samosa i have ever had. Palak Paneer is one of my favorite Indian dishes and theirs is really good! it's creamy and thick and i would definitely recommend giving it a try. Thanks Vegz i can't wait to eat again!!!

MYSORE MASALA DOSA(V/GF)

Does Ciara own this spot, because they said I'ma hit you with a dosa! Despite the relatively wide South Indian food scene in the DMV, few execute their dishes with the level of precision of the good folx at VEGZ. We ordered the SAMOSA CHAAT, UTHAPPAM, and MYSORE MASALA DOSA, all vegan, all delicious. I forgot to snap a photo of the Samosa Chaat, but please know that it's a hearty way to start your meal... and oh so satisfying. It's spicy, packed with robust flavor, crisp texture from the samosa, a creamy mash of peas and potatoes. I'll admit, Uthappam (and Idli) aren't my favorite street food. They're always so damn dry and chalky! Not at VEGZ. Beyond the silky, creamy texture of the pancake, the vegetables were delightfully sweet and perfectly paired with the Sambar (which was savory and spicy. And they're inexpensive! For $20, you can split an appetizer, have a huge dosa, and a drink! Periodt. Lastly, the staff was so friendly and welcoming. We had some questions and had to share dietary requirements.

Gulab Jamun

I had an excellent take out experience at VEGZ. As a huge fan of dosas, I couldn't help but hit this place while on travel. I ordered my go-to masala dosa and splurged on gulab jamun for dessert. My order was ready exactly at the time they estimated and was well packed. After a several-block walk in the cold, everything was still hot when I unpacked it. I normally avoid doing takeout for a dosa out of concern that it would get soggy, but this one was beautifully crisp, even near the filling. The amount of masala filling was just right, and perfectly seasoned & cooked. It came with two chutneys and a generous amount of sambal. The chutneys were good, but be careful with how much you use if you are sensitive to spicy food. The gulab jamun were pretty tasty. They were a little smaller than I expected, but it worked out well because the dosa was so big and filling. I'd highly recommend VEGZ and will definitely return if I'm in the area again.

VEGZ has legendary food (even enjoyed by meat eaters), great service, and is excellent for casual get togethers. There's a few picnic tables that fit families and groups as well as limited seating by the window. Gobi dosa (cauliflower) is my go-to!

Had been walking by this spot for so long and finally decided to check it out. The menu is huge and was honestly a bit overwhelming even for me (I'm quite familiar with Indian food.) I asked the server what was his favorite dish was that he'd recommend. He recommended a spicy paneer stir fry with peppers and onions. I thought it was okay, it got a little monotonous after awhile. The peppers and onion were also a bit too crunchy and the sauce was quite oily. I also got the spinach chaat, which was solid but was not as good as other versions I've had. While prices were expensive that portions were decent. The storefront is below ground, with dine in seating along one side of the space. They seem to do a good carry out business

VEGZ (a vegetarian/vegan Indian restaurant) has been on my list for a while, and I was craving Indian food this past Thursday evening so I got it delivered off Uber Eats. The food was warm and was packaged neatly. Both entrees came with a side of basmati rice. I wish it came with more rice per entree because I still had a lot of curry left after plowing through the rice. PALAK PANEER - 16.99 This palak paneer had a chunky, almost pasty texture (I could make out the diced onion pieces and spinach stems), and it was very flavorful and well-spiced. There was a good amount of paneer too. However, I thought it was a bit too salty and oily, but I guess that's what gave it lots of flavor. DAL MAKHANI - 13.99 The dal makhani was also pretty chunky. I've only had it a few times, so I can't speak on authenticity, but my preference is a smooth and creamy dal makhani, so I probably wouldn't get this again here. Flavors were fine, but nothing mindblowing. I saw that VEGZ is known for their South Indian options like their dosas, so I'll try those next time!

Heard so much good things about this spot that we've finally managed to visit here on a Sunday evening for dinner. We split both mains and were stuffed to the brim. The mysore dosa is huge and absolutely delicious. It's on the spicier side so if you're not used to Indian spices, please ask for a milder version. It hit all the spots for me and we left our mark on the post it notes wall. We will definitely be back to try out more delicious food on the menu!

This seems to be a highly rated place on a lot of food apps, but I genuinely think this is just an average place for vegetarian Indian food. I was craving Gobi Manchurian and that is exactly what I ordered but I was below-impressed by what was delivered. Manchurian was crispy as I asked, but the sauces were overly sweet. The Gobi pieces were small florets. The Gobi Manchurian which is an Indian street food staple was nothing to rave about at vegz. The pieces of naan were okay and felt more pita like than naan. I had specifically asked for disposable utensils but I got none so guess what? I had to use my fingers to eat. Overall, I think it is an okay place and probably overly hyped.

Kylie D.

First time coming here with my friend and two people he was showing around town. Small and intimate. Service wasn't the fastest. We ordered a few dishes to share. The eggplant dish Baingan Bharta and the Gobi Manchuria were my favorites. The food was served in disposable dishware, which was off putting and also kinda wasteful. I'd suggest to the restaurant to switch to proper plates!

I have been there a couple of times and have also ordered food from DoorDash. Some of their food is good and the others are alright. Taste is not consistent. One of the reasons I have gone back here is because not many restaurants in DC offer dosa which is one of my favorite South Indian food. The lentil sambar that comes with dosa is not that flavorful here. Chutneys are alright. One thing I would recommend is their poori baaji. It's really good. Daal chawal (lentil rice) is alright as well. Chole bature can be a hit or a miss. Service is good. Ambiance is alright.

I made a visit to VEGZ on Adams Morgan and ordered the Palak Paneer, Gobi Manchurian, and Naan. The Gobi Manchurian had great flavor and seasoning that I didn't even realize it was vegetarian. The palak paneer paired well with the basmati rice and naan and the meal filled me up. I do wish there was a little more flavor in the palak paneer but it was still solid. The service was also great as the workers made sure I had everything I needed.

PAPDI CHAT (V) MASALA DOSA (V/GF) SAMBAR (V/GF)

This place is a solid 4.5 (giving it 5 really because I completely enjoyed my meal and can't wait to come back and try some other dishes too!). The place itself is a teeny tiny spot located in the heart of Adams Morgan, a casual sit down restaurant that will bring your order quickly! Everything is fresh and the portions are tremendously big! So you can imagine a group of 5 people and their plates barely fitting in one table (here is all about the food!). Starting with the Papdi Chat (6.99) it was a great appetizer to share at the table, it was a well balanced dish speaking of textures and flavors! Crunchiness of the fried puris, mushiness of the spiced chickpeas, creaminess of the yogurt and the tang/zest of the chutneys made this one of my favorite appetizers and I will gladly eat it all hahah. My friends ordered the Masala Dosa ($12.99) which is basically an Indian savory crepe (crispier than your French crepe). The potatoes were cooked nicely with masala spices and played beautifully with the crisp exterior of the crepe! All the Dosas comes with red chutney (that I assumed had tamarind) and sambar! You get to dip or pour their content onto your dosa. I had the Paneer Dosa ($15.99) which had shredded paneer cheese, and it was cooked with some tomatoes. Kind of like a veggie tofu scramble! It was very tasty and I couldn't agree more with people that this was the best of their dosas! We also had a the Dal Makhani ($12.99) it was very aromatic and flavorful black lentil stew/curry. My friend had it before and she likes to top it with some of their green chutney for some tang! Portion is really big, perfect for sharing or to have leftovers for the next day! Overall a great meal for a rainy day!

I am very biased with Indian food because I'm Punjabi and for me, my mom is the best cook. Not often do I come across Indian food where I'm genuinely shocked at how good it is and how it comes close to or is better than my mom's cooking. Vegz was definitely one of them. People working there were nice, had a smile on their face the whole time. The restaurant itself is no frills and honestly they don't even need to be fancy because of how good the food is. Their samosa chaat was the best I've had in the DMV area. I wish I got chole bhature because of how good the chole were in the samosa chaat. The Mysore masala dosa was also very good, but boy do they not mess around with spice! The sambar and the potato filing were super spicy which we loved! Thank god for the mango lassi though haha I honestly can't wait to go back and try more of their food!

LOVE THIS PLACE & ERRRYTHANG ABOUT IT!!…read more When it comes to fast, fresh pizza that can be made unique by you or ordered from a list of pre-crafted pies...&Pizza got you covered! I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I come here. I mean any and every topping you can imagine is available for you to create a "Picasso of a Pizza!" If I could eat &Pizza every day...I would! I mean he#! (heck..lol) why not, their pizzas meet the standards of the USDA food pyramid. I mean despite the calories, I can get all my nutritional needs all met in one place and in one meal: meats, veggies, dairy, fruits, and grains! WHAT!? Holla, if you feel me! LOL. THE VIBE Modern space, friendly helpful staff, and great prices. You walk in and will be immediately greeted. Next, you choose your crust, sauce, veggies, meats and cheese. You can make your own pizza as healthy or extremely indulgent as you'd like. And, I am not kidding....this place keeps it real!! They are very generous on the toppings too. Once satisfied with your choice of toppings, in goes your pizza into a giant commercial-sized 'Easy Bake' Oven for a brief few minutes. Before you know, it is done and ready to be served.! THE FOOD For the extreme carnivore as myself, my " go-to" is: THE MAVERICK --Caution...for MEAT-LOVERS ONLY!!! Classic tomato, mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, pesto, parmesan....PLUS, I customized it with everything but the kitchen sink....Pepperoni * Spinach * Bacon * Meatballs * Cherry Peppers * Green Peppers * Spinach * Onion * Roma Tomato * Fresh Mozzarella Balls * Tomato Sauce * Rosemary * Chili Oil!! Imagine all that baked goodness in one bite! And, if that was not enough, I like to finish it off with the pesto, basil and garlic drizzle! Talk about heaven and Buddha rubbing goodness!! TO SUM IT UP You can't go wrong coming here. I highly recommend! No matter what you order at &Pizza, if you're trying to stick to a healthy diet, you'll need to adhere to one important rule: "......Don't eat the whole damn thing"...but that's impossible when coming here!!

This place really needs to give their employees customer service training, or hire some new staff…read more I was staying at the adjoining hotel and went in through the double doors leading to the checkout counter. Like every establishment on this planet, you order at the checkout counter unless obviously stated otherwise, which it wasn't. I stood there for a minute looking at the menu before the young man behind the counter gave me a blank look and turned to look at one of this employees. That female employee then told me to go to the opposite side of the shop to order from the ladies working hard behind the glass screen making the pizza. The order sign? Miniscule. Even if you come through the front entrance you would probably miss it. Not only that, the female employee said it like it was OBVIOUS. It's not over yet, after I ordered, I walked over to the pick up spot to wait, thinking that you pay once the pizza is finished. Nope, once again, that same female employee looked at me and said "You done? Then NOW you go pay" dramatically pointing at the checkout counter. Again, like it was obvious, and I'm the idiot for not knowing how things work in their shop. The other employees just stared at me all amused. The cherry on top was when I was receiving the pizza, I ordered the American Honey, which is suppose to come with hot honey, hence the name?? I asked for it at the finishing station where you can ask for toppings like cheese and such, only because I can see that it did not have any on it. I told the first guy, I saw him nod his head, then stand completely still and not do a single thing. So then I asked for parmesan and he finally did something. The whole time he did not say one word to me, and looked like he was dragged here by his mama to work. So in the end, I got a mediocre pepperoni flatbread with nothing special but with a nice BIG side of attitude and horrible customer service. It felt like being in a pretend pizza shop ran by a bunch of teenagers for mandatory volunteer hours. Like, I've been treated better at shady gas station counters. I highly do not recommend coming here and wasting your time and money.

The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.
