I took my car to get the alternator and serpentine belt replaced about 2 weeks ago. When I picked up my car I noticed it was making a very loud noise and my AC was no longer cooling. I took it back they said they heard no noise and charged me for freon. Days later my car stopped in the middle of the road. I ended up taking it to a different shop and they discovered an entire part missing from my car. I tried calling/texting Velas and received no answers. I drove to the shop and they knew exactly what I was talking about and gave me my part back. Their interaction was weird when I mentioned to them that the entire engine hose was missing. I am not the first review that mentions they are missing parts after getting repairs done at the this shop. There's also multiple people on social media accusing them of allegedly taking parts from their vehicles. Not sure if this is what they were trying to do with my vehicle but it resulted in me paying over $300 to fix the damage my car experienced after this part was missing and the car was being driven without it. read more

I would not recommend this business. My car was there for about a month because it needed an alternator replacement. I originally brought the car in with the new alternator, but they insisted the alternator was not the problem. Instead, they replaced other parts, including brake-related work and additional repairs, and repeatedly told me the car was fixed. Twice, we picked up the car only for it to break down within about half a mile, requiring it to be towed back. Despite all the repairs they performed, the original problem was never resolved. During my last visit, I was yelled at and told that because I was a woman, I didn't know anything about cars. That was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. They also claimed they had done some work for free, but none of it fixed the actual issue. I eventually had the alternator replaced elsewhere, and that was the only repair the car needed. Everything started out smooth, I went for a low beam headlight replacement and also provided my own headlights from the auto zone down the street. Took them all of 15 minutes to replace ONE headlight, I paid a feasible price but the problem is that I did not receive my other headlight out of the two PACK THAT I PURCHASED. I called them SEVEN times and employee was very rude and irate once I explained the story, he told me it was at this location and to come get it before closing. Unfortunately, I did not make it in time but came back the next day, being today. They told me that my headlight that was there the day prior is no longer there anymore. It is not about the headlight it is principle, not only did they STEAL my headlight but also was very rude and shady about it. I have been with Vela for several years (about 10 + years) for My Matrix 2004 and Accord 2004 services. At least 10 times had my AC, power locks, gas cap/trunk release, wheel bearings, engine mounts, door locks, trunk release fixed. The most I had to pay was $150 for labor to replace the AC compressor, condenser, and drier. Today AC still works in the extreme heat of the second summer since it was fixed. Cost me about 350 to buy parts from rock auto. I considered this is a very good deal. One time I had to replace the front wheel bearings -- some shop gave me a pricey quotes per Chilton labor quotes, ie $300 and above -- Vela only charged me 35 for each side of the axle. So this was another good deal. One time I brought my car in for starter replacement. I bought part from LKQ. Time was late so I felt suspicious when the mechanic finished it with ease and asked him to give me the old part. He did not do any thing since the part given back to me still had a lock string unopened (ie this was my part just brought in). Vela owner knew exactly what was going on but he tried to protect his cheating mech so I lost 60 bucks in this deal. But Vela treated me nicely in some other cases. In sum, this is a labor cheap shop and we have to be educated, armed with knowledge to avoid sleazy practices in many auto repairs shop these days. 3 - 3 1/2 stars rating read more

This place is very friendly and nice and has fairly good prices. However, the services have left me spending $1100 on power steering that had to be replaced after they "fixed" it, and a new compressor for AC which is now blowing warm air again. I'm extremely disappointed. I drive from San Marcos here because I heard it was the best and I have a very close friend who spoke extremely highly of here, just For this to happen. As lovely as the people were here, I wish I never went to this place and just went to a crappy shop here to get the same work done and at least not have to drive a million miles to get it fixed time and time again. Israel Vela is running a scam operation. Read all of the negative reviews, because there's a pattern of shoddy work, scams, and horrible customer service. My father-in-law still trusts this place, but Israel sh_t on our trust. We had a coolant leak and were leaving in a few days to drive to Florida. Israel told us they found the leak and replaced a part. We stopped in Mississippi and discovered our car was leaking coolant again. We called an arranged to take our car to a Pensacola Mazda dealership. They found the leak, NOT where Israel said it was, and they said every part under our hood was original. Vela Tire Shop never changed out any part, and had lied about finding the leak and replacing the part! We had a cracked cylinder head and it cost us $6k at a dealership. NEVER would we have driven, but would've flown instead, had we known Vela had scammed us. I drove 20 minutes and they made me get out of my car and go into the waiting room, only to tell me after waiting 10 minutes that they didn't have my tire size. Vela is a Veteran and his business is a honest and very trustworthy one. His prices are very very reasonable and probably go unmatched by any other business. He will try to fix whatever is wrong with your vehicle and if he can't fix it, he will let you know and won't waste your time by falsely fixing something or jibber jabbering about fixing other things that you did not go in for. I have yet to meet a auto repair owner as honest and trustworthy as he is. All of his staff are polite and as professional as can be and Vela seems as that he will tolerate no less. Saw the damage done to my car and agreed to be able to fix it. They have no communication whatsoever, you have to constantly be calling them to ask for updates or you won't hear from them at all. Here I am 3 months later my car still isn't fixed or has been touched AT ALL. I received a message saying my "car needs to be picked up or it will be moved to storage." As if I just dumped my car there, Instead of them just admitting they were never going to able to fix my car. Vela's was a complete WASTE OF TIME. I've been going to Vela's for years and have always been happy with their service. Today they went above and beyond. We were preparing to go camping when the compressor in the AC went out in our van. Summer in Texas is no time to go without AC, especially on a weeklong trip into the mountains. We got the replacement part at 3pm the day before vacation started and we thought there was no way in heck they'd get the repair done before they closed at 6. Lo and behold they called at 5:45 and told us it was ready to go! Blowing cold too! On a previous occasion, a big name-brand garage told me I had a leak in the hydraulic lines and they needed to do a flush to find the source. $150 just to do the flush and find the leak before starting repairs. Who knew how high that bill would go? I said "Nah" and took it to Vela. He took a look and said it was just a broken clamp on one hose. I paid $35 to replace the clamp and some fasteners. That was 2 years ago and it's been running like a champ ever since. Look, Vela's ain't fancy. If you want free water and soda and a nice air conditioned lobby to sit in, look elsewhere. Mr. Vela is a fair man who doesn't overcharge and gets the work out fast. On the rare occasion there's a problem with the work, just take the car back up there and let him know. He'll handle it without any fuss. Obviously I'm pretty happy with his work. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. read more

when here about three weeks ago to get an oil change..., when I say it was done in a blink of an eye, I was confused and curious as to if they had even changed it! Mind you, I've had my car for three years now and I've never had any problems with my car leaking oil..., I've taken my car to (take 5) & valvoline to get the oil changed, & I'm pretty sure they would have told me if I was leaking oil... not only that I just know my car... plus I wou have noticed that burning oil smell & the fact that I pay for a reserved parking spot for the last two 1/2 years since Ive had my car and hadn' t seen any oil on the ground says a lot!!! while paying out, is when the guy told me that I had a small oil leak ,like how??? like the oil is literally pouring out!!!! And if I don't get this fixed soon it's gonna cause my engine to blow!!! They also changed my rack & pinion & now I need a motor mount!!! The owner Israel Vela is a conscientious man who treats all his customers with the utmost respect. His pricing is so low it's hard to believe he's successful, but I guess his great service over the years has gotten him so many regular customers he is always busy. I've been going there for almost 10 years, and I have never had a problem. And unlike many repair shops, he never upsells on things you don't need. I have gone to this place several times in the last 5 years. I wanted to give the benefits of doubt every time they messed up with repairs of my car as sometimes it looks like they fixed the problem. Below is what I would like to share with and warn the customers about his service: Very frequently, Mr. Vela's staff messes up with the repair work, damages other good parts of the car they were not supposed to repair, and if the issue is taken to Mr. Vela, he goes into a brawling mode by putting down his customers in order to defend the work of his staff. His staff messed up several times with repairs of my car, damaged other good functioning parts, which started to malfunction right after they completed the repair work with another malfunctioning part and kept fixing them whenever I could I take the car back to them. Mr. Vela is extremely defensive in his communication to customers and does so by putting customers down and then he says that he has other customers to attend to and moves to another customer. he interrupts customers in the middle of what they say. He shows little patience in listening to what customers have to say. Mr. Vela listens few seconds to one customer, then goes to another customer to listen to few and moves on to the next customer. That's what he does all days during his work hours. No customer gets the right kind of attention from him. Sometimes he even does not want to talk to customers and goes to a distant corner away from his store in the grassy backyard (behind the Chinese restaurant next to him) and pretends to work on the many old rusty vehicles he collects from customers for selling. Mr. Vela has a relative named Pablo, who works in the store and acts as a powerful man. He has very poor manners. He is very hostile in his behavior with customers and wants to come up with a deal with the customers of getting paid cash. He starts (literally) to yell at the customer in front of other customers, if the customer paid with credit cards. He wants to make the customer feel guilty for paying in credit cards and not in cash. I strongly recommend Mr. Vela to retrain or replace Pablo for the sake of goodwill of his business. In summary, I am under the impression that Mr. Vela has taken for granted that no matter how badly he treats customers, his business will go on forever. He needs to know that treating customers in a nasty and hurtful manner (as subservient/slave to them) is antagonistic to their business interest. read more
