Well what can I say. I've been coming to this location since I was in my mom's stomach and now almost 31 years later it has not changed and still is just as good as I remember growing up. I ordered the classic "Chocomil" with banana and my mom the vampiro (which is a healthy mix of beets, celery and other vegetables) and always is a hit. This place brings back so many memories and am so glad they haven't changed the pictures or counter tops. The service feels like your with family and funny how he remembers me when I was in my moms stomach to now being a grown woman. I will forever come to this location to remind me of my childhood and to grab a delicious "Chocomil" and wish them many more years to come and hopefully in the future I could bring my future children here to enjoy these liquados. I found this place on Yelp looking for "best tacos near me" because I was shopping in the neighborhood and it's absolutely amazing. Boyle Heights old school cool. The quality of the food is outstanding. One of the specials of the day were chile rellenos and they came as a plate with the freshest, avocado and tomato salad, beans and rice, freshly made tortillas and of course, some delicious and just made chile rellenos. There's a very nice woman who is all smiles that I think cooks most of the dishes. They also make fantastic milkshakes. The man that made my milkshake told me to drink some of it so he could pour the rest of it out into my cup from the blender, which was very thoughtful of him. One of the servers was so kind and he called me over to open up a large metal tray in the back left corner, which was full of the freshest and most incredible salsas and also there was a plate of freshly grilled chiles next to it. The food here is great and now I understand all the good reviews. The inside is basic but cute with some vintage murals on the walls and bright orange formica tables (I miss formica!) with comfortable seating. There's usually metered parking right in front on Cesar E Chavez Ave. or you can find metered parking on the side street. They accept credit cards and Apple Pay, too. read more

This place is a 40+ year old fruteria. They've since modernized to include a kitchen for hot food. At the time, I came in looking to get a cup of fruit. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great and all the fruit stand workers were nowhere to be seen. Eventually, I found this place, which specializes the always excellent Mexican fruit salad. Here, it's slightly different, with mango, watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. Of course, lime and Tajin are provided. It's pretty typical to what you'd find at a fruit stand. It is a bit pricier here, but that's probably to cover the overhead of having a brick and mortar restaurant. There is also a kitchen inside which prepares hot food such as tacos and menudo. Luckily, they make menudo everyday instead of just during weekends like many other locations. There is a good amount of customization, letting you choose between having hominy or not, including the pig foot or excluding, or choosing the seasonings. I like to add the pig foot (pata) because it adds some more gelatin. The seasonings were onion and cilantro. The broth served here is pretty mild. I added hot chili flakes at home, which would have been a welcome addition. You also do not get any oregano to go. Beyond the pretty mild flavor, the menudo served here is pretty nice. The tripe is plentiful and the broth is flavorful, whether or not extra seasonings or sides are added. Clearly, since they have been around since the 70s, they're doing something right. With an extensive fruit-based menu and a solid Mexican cuisine kitchen, I won't hesitate to return. read more

Upon drinking my first drop- my initial reaction was instant joy. My brain receptors instantly recognized how naturally nutritious and healthy this delicious smoothie was! It's the best Chiles Rellenos I've had at a restaurant. Also, the tacos de asada were delicious. The meat quality was good.
