I just had taken the car in not too long ago for something else mind you. They did a level 1 diagnostic to see what was wrong and see what the check engine light was for. They got back to me pretty quickly and gave me the usual list of things that need to be done, the estimate was almost 800 dollars for the diagnostic and to replace spark plugs and other repairs. Which I thought was ridiculous in the first place as I decided to do it myself and get all the parts for 1/5 of that price. Mind you the job does not take that long. Problem 1. I pick up the car and one of the mechanics actually left his wrench on the upper part of my hood. I called to ask about the diagnostic so I know what exactly I'm working with, and the person on the other line goes "oh I've been meaning to call you, on of our mechanics left a wrench in your hood". You've been meaning to ? Like you knew about it and didn't say anything just yet ? Bit odd but whatever, workers shouldn't leave there stuff in customers cars anyways but it was a human mistake I get but jeez. Problem 2. I go to check my hood, found the wrench and I just happen to see definitely something odd with my wires connected to the engine. One of them looked to be CHEWED out by an animal! Obviously, definitely, if not the main issue with my car at the moment !! Of course I cannot drive on it in this condition. Upon closer look I see little droppings from a mouse or rat or some other animal and the left over rubber pieces all over the place near the wire. Go figure. Now, they did not send me any inspection report after looking into my car and they never mentioned not one piece of detail about this issue to me until I looked for myself. Granted I probably should've known before, but the LEAST they could've done was look and mention it to me instead of quoting a price and calling it a day. Left a sour taste in my mouth. I also found what looked to be a candy wrapper near the inside area where the little critter left his mess. Looked to be from a candy bar or what have you now I'm not sure if this was from the workers or something else but I sure as hell don't sit on the hood of my car and eat candy or chocolate. Overall, it was just not a great experience this time around, I'm definitely going to be looking for a new shop, I think they definitely need to be more reasonable with their prices and labor. I hope they can be more honest and transparent about issues in the future with other people, as I felt like I was left in the dark until I looked for myself. Obviously I'm not blaming them for whatever critter came and left a mess but the whole principle of just handing me an estimate without pictures of things or even an inspection report and then leaving tools in my car and giving me a ridiculous estimate for a job that can be done myself is absurd.

They said they had taken it out for a test drive to see if they could figure out a noise the car was making. Another hour and a half later, close to closing time, they called to tell us that while driving our car the 20 or so feet from their work bay to a parking spot, our car's ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL. They tried to play it off like it wasn't their fault and said they'd "help us" by finding a used engine at a junkyard (of equal mileage, approx 77K) and installing it. Took them about a month to do so. They gave us a 6 month warranty on the "junkyard" engine and free oil changes. Needless to say, they screwed us. Our car now reads 88K miles EVERY time we check the mileage on a mechanics machine, our air conditioning was never charged on the new engine, our spark plugs are crap, and our alternator needs to be replaced. Basically, they managed to render our car useless/destroyed during a SIMPLE OIL CHANGE. Andrew, the manager, said he would "help us out"... the car is now worth nothing for a trade-in because of their BS. My husband is a nice guy who had recently been through a bypass operation, and Andrew and the owner took advantage of his being nice and not one to make a fuss. DO NOT TRUST this place, DO NOT patronize them! I don't know how they did it, but they seized up our engine and destroyed our vehicle without a real care in the world about what they had done. My husband and I BOTH FEEL USED AND ABUSED. We own the car, and now our property is basically useless for driving or a trade-in. An oil change at this Merlin might seem like a good deal, and cheaper than a dealership would charge, but it's NOT WORTH IT. If they screw up your car during a simple oil change and seize the engine, they WON'T "make it right". They'll "fix" it as cheaply as they can and leave you screwed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MERLIN AT ALL COSTS!!!

They were quick to assess the damage done and take pictures in order to document all that was wrong. When the owner of the other shop refused to take responsibility for the damages, Christian Brothers Automotive helped me to reach out to the owner and even offered for the other shop owner to view my car under their watchful eye! When that did not work and I was still deciding how to move forward, Christian Brothers Automotive offered to keep my car at their shop and every single night they locked the car inside their shop to ensure its safety. They continued to check in on my progress with no pressure to make any decisions and also continued to offer advice and assistance. This was above and beyond anything I expected. After my car sitting at Christian Brothers Automotive for 3 entire weeks, I finally made some progress with being able to figure out how to get the owner of the old shop to take some responsibility. Got home there was no coolant in my reservoir !!! I would have driven around, thinking my car had extra fluid in the reservoir and did not. I put in a half a gallon of coolant that I happen to have at the house. Not to mention, I paid for two jugs of coolant. They did not mention the previous quote for work that I needed done on my engine at all. Everything else was fine, so they said. The courtesy ride was not offered with me until after I dropped my car off, and that was if they had time. This was my fourth time at this shop and I was really happy with them and how thorough they checked out my car. This time I felt like it was under a different management and the care previously was no longer. I put my faith and trust in your shop. While in another state visiting, I took my car to my brother, who is a licensed mechanic, and found two engine gasket leaks, and some issues with my suspension.
