After living in the DFW area for a decade, we finally made our way to Velvet Taco this past Saturday evening. Overall, the food tasted great but there were some hiccups for sure. Service- 1/5 star. They forgot to give us the queso we ordered as an appetizer. The family in front of us got theirs... but ours they just forgot? I had to ask when picking up our tacos from the counter. Additionally, the tables were GROSS. What a mess. Literally it was as if they never cleaned. We watched one woman ask them to clean her table and honestly, i dont blame her. Food- 4/5 stars. The food tasted fresh, but man was it messy. It fell apart without any plates to catch the food coming out of the loaded tacos. We saw others putting down paper towels on the tables to catch the mess and they had the right idea. Just a waste of the fillings that fell out. I got two tacos and my husband got three along with queso to share. Next time we know that its wayyy too much food- haha. I will stick with one taco and queso and he said he would only have two. We both agreed the #12 brisket taco was by far THE BEST. My husband also liked the paneer taco a lot. We also enjoyed the queso blanco with the blue corn chips too. We look forward to trying it again! (And to note, this is far superior to Torchy's in quality). read more

Take your lunch, dinner or late night snack up a notch at the Velvet Taco's new location in Grapevine! We tried a couple tacos and the tots. The first taco was the Weekly Featured Taco Karaage Chicken crisp tenders, red chile aioli, curly carrots, chile oil, green onion, lemon zest, corn tortilla. The taco had a sweet undertone with just the right amount of spice to give your tongue a tingle. Our second taco was the #9 Pork & Shrimp Egg Roll shrimp and pork stir-fry, sriracha aioli, sweet chili sauce, crispy wonton strips, green onion, on a flour tortilla. The pork was tender and juicy, the topping gave it a fresh taste and the crispy wonton strips added the perfect crunch. Next, was my version of the #8 because I just can't do the spicy anymore. Korean Fried Rice Taco. Korean fried rice, egg fried rice, Korean pork, pickled red onion, grilled pineapple, cilantro, on a soft flour tortilla. Yes please! The pork once again was juicy and tender, the red pickled onions are my favorite topping. Then add the pineapple and a sprig of fresh cilantro and it tastes as good as it sounds! ( I took off the aioli and jalapeño but you do you! ) Crisp Tots & Local Egg And let us not forget the side that eats like a meal in itself! The Crisp Tots & Local Egg*. herb goat cheese, smoked cheddar, avocado crema, chile butter, peppered bacon, micro greens. Tater tots with a gourmet kick you don't want to miss! A little delightful dish of D-lish! Seriously have never had such well plated and presented tots and they still come in a red checked cardboard tray. We've dined at this velvet taco several times and have been through the drive-through more than once. Every time the food is delicious! The guacamole with chips, salmon tacos, and their margaritas are my three favorite things to order. The brisket taco on corn is a close second. I have not had anything here that I didn't like though. The queso is delicious (blanco is my jam) and so is the elote. And the tots! Yum. The breakfast tacos are 10 out of 10 as well. You just cannot go wrong here. I love that they have so many gluten-free options and whole, quality ingredients. These are not your average tacos! They're a cut above the rest. Thanks for moving to our area! read more

I went the location in Grapevine with my buddy Gary .We didn't have a lot of time but needed to grab some grub !! Tacos are usually a quick bite to eat and Velvet taco serves up some tasty tacos. I'm usually satisfied with two tacos but sometimes I get a third and it's tough to finish because they are a nice size ! I love the variety of tacos they have so you can always try something new . My friend and I stopped here for a quick lunch today and I am now in LOVE with there tacos. We shared the curry coconut queso and chips which was absolutely delicious to start. We each got 2 tacos and I had the sweet chili shrimp taco and the Kobe taco and she had the orange shrimp taco and salmon tacos. They were all huge and so tasty! Was in Grapevine over the weekend for a conference. Had ordered through the velvet taco website for delivery to our hotel HALF A MILE AWAY. Never received our food, tried our best to help driver find location. We called the restaurant immediately after being told that our order was canceled and they seem surprised and aggravated at the delivery driver. Told us that they know exactly who the driver was and that they would handle it and refund us our Monday. Over $50 of food that we never received and by the time this all occurred it was too late to order from anywhere else and had to eat out of the hotel snack machine. Fast forward 3 days later and the charge was put through on our account. When we called to find out why they said the only time they have record of us ordering food was from June 25th and July 8th......we've never been there nor do we even live in the state. We came to this place due to the abundant great reviews. Got 2 tacos and 2 sprites, bill was $20. The taco was good in taste, a bit in the spicy side but still good. I'm not one for spicy food and it was good enough that I could handle it. We went through the drive through so couldn't really get a feel for the service, but the window lady was nice and attentive. Tacos come in a sturdy and branded box and they include a small spoon/fork for you to be able to pick up any leftovers. I thought that was nice. The only con to the place is the price for what you get ratio. I believe it's pricey for what you get. Any Mexican place would give you 2 to 3 tacos for the same price. The reason for my 3 stars is we were pretty upset for having looked at other people's pictures, and seeing mainly 3 tacos we thought that would be the norm. A bit misleading. read more

Went to check out Velvet Taco the other night and really enjoyed the experience. Service was fast and friendly. The margarita was good for the price. They definitely were generous with the tequila. Don't let those small plastic cups fool ya, it's plenty. My friend had the spicy shrimp tacos, which had quite the kick. I had the salmon taco and it was fantastic. Salmon was perfectly grilled and the topping were fresh. I liked that they put the red chili slices on top because I'm not for spice so I was able to take them off without getting a surprise spice bite. I also had the picnic chicken taco. It was ok but lacked flavor. The crunch was nice. I wouldn't order it again. The odd item we got was the Thai coconut curry queso. We had hi expectations for this queso but the flavor was lacking. Neither of us tasted any coconut or curry flavor whatsoever. It was a bland cheese comparable to Frito Lay jar queso. The number of chip to cheese ratio was off as if we would have loved the cheese, we would have had to buy another order of chips. The prices were comparable to Torchy Tacos but the tacos were smaller although the Velvet Tacos were better tasting. Would I visit Velvet Taco again, sure would. I'd like to try some different tacos although I would definitely get the salmon taco without a doubt. read more

As a taco junkie in good standing, I decided to make a quick stop and grab a taco and a drink. I went with the #7 Cuban Pig, since it is also one of my favorite sandwiches. The taco was fine, but left a significant pool of grease in the container. Flavor was on point though. My biggest complaint was that a single taco and a drink took almost 20 minutes in the drive-thru. You can order ahead, which I guess is mandatory if you want to make it out quickly. She was very helpful with her opinion on which tacos might be the best to try for the first time. The music is a little loud, but a lively atmosphere. Good for young adults and families. They were good, creative, ranging from southern, to asian to US breakfast. Something for everyone. All good. Some great. My vegetarian companion was pleased as well. Counter service was great. I'm so happy they opened up this location. The service is quick. The food is delicious. Every so often I'll try the featured taco. This time I got the brisket nachos. Great portion, the toppings went well together. Everything was evenly spread throughout the nachos, so I enjoyed every bite. I would say, my brisket was Luke warm, would have like it a bit hotter, however it didn't ruin the experience.
