Our first visit to Velvet Taco was during their soft opening. We were lucky enough to be among those that got reservations. Each of us was allowed any two tacos and a drink. Neither of us had been to any other Velvet Taco location. I had the grilled flank steak and the chicken cordon bleu, which was their WTF (Weekly Taco Feature). The steak taco was fantastic! The meat was very tender and the seasoning was spot on. I liked the chicken cordon bleu but it was missing something. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I'd try it again to find out! :) Since that first visit, we have tried the buffalo chicken, the kobe bacon burger, the gator gras (another WTF), the picnic chicken and the angus brisket! We have also had the queso blanco and the elote & chips. Obviously, we like it there! We both agree that the grilled flank steak is our favorite and we loved the elote! There is a drive thru and it is a little confusing. You can order online and pick up at the drive thru window, so easy peasy. There is not a place to place your order in line but you can order at the window. That surprised me because these are not tacos that are just thrown together and it takes a bit of time to complete an order. On our last order, which we placed online, we arrived a bit early and were told that we could wait at the window unless someone pulled in behind us, in which case we should pull forward and someone would take the order to the car. There were several parking spots straight ahead, we pulled forward, parked in one of those spots and, sure enough, someone brought the order to the car. Sorry, not very happy with the food here. The presentation was good and maybe that got our hopes up. We came here for an early dinner, the place was not too busy. Our food came out fast. We had the ChickFish N Chips Taco, Spicy Tikka Chicken, Baja shrimp, Buffalo Cauliflower Taco. I would say they were underwhelming to me. My family came here after my husband finished the cow town marathon. It was a Sunday afternoon around 1 and a party of 8. This place was booming! We started out with margaritas and chips and salsa with queso. I got an on the rocks margarita and it was very refreshing and delicious! It wasn't super salty or overly sugar like from the margarita mix it was just right! Their queso was my favorite part of the entire meal it was fabulous! The red sauce in the queso is spicy though so if you don't like spice don't dip into that part! I got the fish n chips taco and it was very delicious and super filling! This place definitely doesn't skimp on the meat or fish portion of their tacos that is for siren by the time i finished the fish n chips taco i started on the grilled salmon and could only eat half it was huge! I had been wanting to try velvet taco for awhile and was keeping an eye on this location. Unfortunately it's somewhat awkwardly located on the access road off of Main Street Grapevine. Though I do think once some of the construction things going on will help with that. They have a small indoor dining area but I feel like there is a little bit more outdoor seating. Music is a bit on the louder side but not to bad. They did have to use a mic for folks to hear their names being called. I had tried order online hoping to be able to get my order a little quicker so I could eat there on a break. Usually that works in my favor that the kitchen will go ahead and start prepping online orders knowing that the online system is how it is. I was a bit off on that that thought pattern with how Velvet taco does things. I checked in at 1105 for my order that was automatically set at 1115 by their online system. From my sitting waiting for my order everyone who came in and ordered, and folks going thru the drive thru got their order really quickly, before I did. I checked in with staff at a certain point after my initial check in and they were really helpful. They seem to start prepping when you get there, or at least they pushed thru my order. On this order though they let me know by the nature of their online system ordering that if they say 11:15 as the first option they don't start prepping it normally until that time or just a few minutes before hand. It was out a few minutes after that. I ended up needing to take my order Togo. So with that if you make an online order get there as close to your pick up time as possible, not necessarily earlier. Also if you come in around opening during a break to eat there, plan on just ordering there vs online. You'll get it out faster. For the food the queso ended up being what my co worker that I ended up sharing with & I liked the best. Needing to take it Togo, 2 out of 3 tacos ended up with soggy tortillas that fell apart due to the moisture of the items in the tortillas. All of the fillings ended up being good. I would recommend that 1 taco is enough to be filling because they are good sized tacos. Maybe 2 if you are a big eater. While they have some epic options both of my kids would end up not picking there based on their options. They are like their dad where they feel it's a bit of a waste to have to ask for something off their order with anything they would try there. Be it for their allergies or preference. In an area with a lot of taco places ... I'm not 100% if we'd make our way out of the way to go again unless we happened to be right there. Though if we have folks set on going to velvet taco we won't say no, now knowing the adjustments we need to make personally to be able to enjoy their food more. read more

Their tacos are delicious and have a unique twist to them. They are more filling than the typical street tacos. I ordered their fried paneer taco, chicken tikka, picnic chicken and fish n chips tacos and split these with my friend. They were delicious and every bite took me to a different culture and cuisine. I've tried this place a few times now and they have yet to disappoint! The establishment is very clean both indoors and out and the employees have been kind. My go to is the Picnic chicken taco! I love the avocado creama in combination with the crunch you get from the crispy chicken skin! Must try! The guacamole is also fresh and tasty plus they give you plenty of chips. Line moved quickly. For faster food type it eas excellent service. Drinks were great. Margarita wasn't too sweet - just right. Spicy chicken tikka is their best seller and it didn't disappoint. Could use some sort of cabbage slaw or something on top. Too much rice. Def worth trying! Queso was good but not better than Torchy's. We need to try other tacos next time but we were satisfied.
