    5/26/2024 - breakfast taco platter
    Lisa B.

I had been wanting to try this place for a while but we were never in the area when they were open AND we rarely thought of it as an option since they are tucked away in a strip center. We decided to try it for brunch one Sunday morning. There was only 1, maybe 2 tables, occupied so I was immediately nervous! If you have ever tried to get brunch in Grapevine you know there is always a line unless you go early morning! The decor was nice and colorful and the restaurant was clean. We were immediately seated and drink orders taken. They have fresh squeezed orange juice so the visit was looking up! Many things in the menu looked promising. My husband ordered the breakfast taco plate and WOW was there a lot of food! You definitely get your moneys worth, assuming you can eat it all or take leftovers home. Sooo good and the rice and beans were excellent! I had the huevos rancheros. Best decision all day! The carne asada was cooked so well! Add some potatoes and avocado then add some homemade ranchero sauce...it was *chef's kiss *. Give them a try! Don't forget about Wicho's House just because they are tucked away and not on the main drag!

Came here today for brunch. There was no wait and pretty quiet. The service was direct and friendly. Well are defiantly going to come back! Best French toast in the area. The Ana's chilaquiles are made with red sauce and not a green sauce and it's more like drizzled with sauce. I would like it less crunchy but after smothering it with the eggs and beans it was pretty soft. It's a clean, cozy restaurant with booths small enough for two.

Poor service earns my NOT RECOMMENDED designation. When the table service is so poor that no one returns except to drop off the bill, absolutely nothing else matters. I don't care how good the food is, it's overshadowed by the terrible service. This is a serious management failure.

With most of the booths empty, I was still seated at one not ready for breakfast service. While the nearby booths had all the trays filled, mine only had saccharine and aspartame packets. There were neither cream nor sugar packets. When I ordered my coffee, I had to remind the waiter that I needed cream. I was deciding between healthy (Avocado toast) and unhealthy (Chocanna waffle). In a rare moment, healthy won out. Why is it the healthier choice? Unlike the variations of avocado toasts which I previously had, theirs had only egg whites and not the entire egg. With mainly avocados and egg whites, I was even able to taste the lime juice within the avocados. I also enjoyed the fruit cup. A lot of places mostly fill it up with whole grapes. In addition to the sliced grapes, there were plenty of berries, pineapples, and melons.

If you're looking for a good Mexican breakfast joint, this is it! The service was great and the food was even better! I had the huevos rancheros. The eggs were cooked perfect over medium and the red sauce was delicious. It came with fresh avocado, tender carne asada, and a side of breakfast potatoes (homemade, not frozen like so many places use.) My husband had the huevos divorciados and liked both sauces. We had some fresh squeezed OJ that was excellent. The service was friendly and fast. We will definitely be back for more!

She led me back to the table with my friends and created some small talk on the way, so that was a nice change of pace, considering many people just point you on your way. We were seated near the back which seemed to be somewhat like an open kitchen feel, which I actually thought was pretty cool. Our waitress was very fast and helpful with picking out our foods based on our likes. Once the food came out, everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals, including myself. We started the table off with the biscuits and fried green tomatoes (demolished!). I kept it simple with the chicken and waffles (delicioius and crispy), which was a HUGE helping (yum!). Others at my table enjoyed the the shrimp and grits and WB chicken sandwich. No complaints heard from them! Overall, I really enjoyed the ambiance, the food, the service, and the experience I had for my first time there. Would come back again for dinner to see if there is a difference.

My husband and I decided to split the Biscuit & Gravy Omelet, and it was the perfect choice. A special shout-out to our server, Vanessa, who was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Other than that, everything was great. One thing I really appreciated was how quickly the food came out and nobody likes waiting forever when they're hungry! Moving to Texas a while back, a friend said "never underestimate a restaurant in a strip mall"…read more Craftway Kitchen in Southlake isn't exactly in a strip mall, but in the outlot of a few big box retailers. We've driven past Craftway Kitchen more than a few times, always intrigued with a 'we have to try that place sometime'. Saturday night was sometime. Taking our chances as a party of three walk in's, the restaurant was full inside, and there were a few tables open on the patio. I generally don't like to eat on patios, because flies show up, etc. Not at Craftway... not sure what they were doing, but there wasn't a fly or other flying bug around. The patio wasn't just clean, it was meticulous. Welcoming too - It felt very much like an extension of the restaurant. Alex, our waiter was quick to bring water and menus. Returning to take drink orders, a margarita was ordered as was a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. Drinks were quickly served. Water was never allowed to become empty. Alex asked if we had ever been to Craftway, we informed him this was our first visit. His ask "any allergies?" to which we said no. He disappeared, returning with an appetizer sampling plate with three items - the Reuben egg rolls, crab stuffed mushrooms, and blue cheese chips. All were fantastic! Three entrees ordered, the Chicken & Fig sandwich, Chicken Milanese and the Cajun pasta with Chicken. Food arrived; each entree was fantastic. Cooked to perfection, flavors were amazing. Dessert, shared, was a bread pudding with ice cream, a perfect finish. Alex never let beverages become empty, delivered superb service. The Chef circulated the room checking on satisfaction and chatting with patrons. Giving Craftway Kitchen a very well deserved 5-star rating. The staff did everything right! Departing, we talked about what we will order next time. We will be back to Craftway Kitchen!

The portions are also huge Our server was wonderful from start to finish. He was friendly, attentive, and checked on us often without being overbearing. The service was honestly the best part of the experience. We started with the Sichuan calamari, and this was easily the highlight of the meal. It was perfectly crispy, the glaze had just the right amount of sweetness and heat, and the seasoning gave it a nice kick without overpowering the calamari. It was one of the best calamari dishes I've had and definitely raised my expectations for everything that followed. Next was the tenderloin bruschetta, and unfortunately this one just didn't work for me. The flavors didn't come together, and it was much saltier than it needed to be. It felt like there were too many things happening on the plate without much balance. I wouldn't order it again. For the entrées, the Chilean Sea Bass was very good. The fish was flaky and cooked well, the risotto was creamy, and the sauce brought everything together without being too heavy. It was one of the stronger dishes we ordered. The lobster stuffed ravioli was another solid choice. The filling was generous, there was plenty of lobster on top, and the vodka sauce complemented everything nicely without taking over. It was rich but still well balanced. We also tried the New Zealand rack of lamb. This one had mixed reviews at our table. It wasn't as tender as I was hoping, but I didn't dislike it and again I didn't love it! The blackened exterior and the wine reduction gave it good flavor, but it just wasn't particularly memorable. My favorite entrée ended up being the tomahawk pork chop. The pork itself was juicy, flavorful, and cooked really well. I wasn't a huge fan of the pineapple bourbon glaze since I didn't think it added much to the dish, but the quality of the meat made up for it. We also had the strawberry spinach salad, which was fresh and a nice lighter option alongside all the richer dishes. Then there was also a side dish with green beans and almond and again no complains there. Overall, I left feeling a little conflicted. The service was outstanding, the atmosphere was great, and the portions were very generous. The food itself was a mix of really good dishes and others that completely missed the mark. After such an incredible start with the calamari, I expected the rest of the meal to be on the same level, but it just never got there. I'm glad we tried it, but I don't think it's a place I'd rush back to.
