Well if you're like me and were born with a sweet tooth then skip dessert at the restaurant and stop by Venchi! The line and wait is worth it. After 4 weeks of being home bound, I was finally taken to the city and this was my final stop. Nothing like a double scoop of two of my favorite flavors, mango and vanilla with chocolate. If you're looking for a flavor blast in your mouth definitely give this combo a try. I had mine in a cone and let's just say gone was the result. Plus the shop is just amazing and whimsical. Venchi, an international chocolate and gelato chain originating in Turin, Italy, is a new addition to the Washington Square Park area. The chain boasts over 140 years of expertise in chocolate making and has over 135 shops around the world. This location caught my eye when we were looking for dessert in the neighborhood, since the storefront is very illuminated on the corner of Bleecker and Carmine. The line out the door for gelato at 10pm added to the intrigue. Their gelato is made fresh daily, in line with tradition. They have some 20 flavors on rotation with fruity ones like lemon and raspberry to traditional flavors like pistachio, hazelnut, and tiramisu. You can get a one to three or four flavors depending on what size you purchase. The baby size is about $6 and you get a complimentary piece of chocolate with your gelato. My friends and I tried the tiramisu and lemon flavors, and they were really delicious! You can really taste the quality. Service here seemed a little curt and lackluster when we visited. Unclear if it was just because it was late at night and they were swamped on a Saturday night, or what. They had given my friend a bit of attitude when they might have charged her incorrectly for a baby-sized cone and then neglected to give her a piece of chocolate with her order until we asked. Weird service interaction aside, their gelato is really good and I would return when I'm in the neighborhood. They also sell chocolate bars, chocolate bark, and gift boxes here. Great place to stop by for a small desert! This is a chocolate place that has a gelato bar. I was told this location just opened up a couple of weeks ago. I was drawn to this place since it was lit up and poppin for later in the evening. I came here with a friend for a small desert after a post dinner walk. I decided to try the small size with the hazelnut and stracciatella flavors. This gelato tasted amazing-I loved the small hazelnut chucks in the hazelnut flavor. They also put some dark chocolate on top, which is nice to try since it is a chocolate shop. We were able to snag a seat, but there is not a lot of seating options in the store. The service was so great-they were friendly and efficient. They had a fun, happy vibe for a fancy chocolate place. Overall, this was an excellent gelato experience. read more

Ice cream is good but service is terrible. I went the other day to their Bleecker location. When I arrived the employee was cleaning and maybe she hated to be interrupted. She was laconic and giving orders and was never asking me what I wanted so when I said I wanted a cone with chocolate syrup like the usual she said I had never told her that, and I needed to pay extra. I asked to try a new flavor she said I had to pay first and then do the flavors. I asked why was she on a terrible mood and she blamed me, that I was the one in terrible mood. I went there to enjoy my ice cream but I got a sourpuss, unhappy with her job, dumping her dissatisfaction to a customer. When I visited before, they were extra nice and accommodating but this woman needs a chill pill urgently. She diminished the nice experience I was looking forward. read more

Not only was it silky smooth and reminiscent of Nutella, but I loved how the slight bitterness of the dark chocolate balanced out the caramelized sweetness of hazelnuts. The ordering system is a little confusing because you pay for your gelato at the register first before handing your receipt to the person behind the counter who scoops your cone. The first time I had Venchi was in Florence, Italy, and the next time was in Rome. Little did I think that this was only an Italian ice cream shop, but then I came across this while visiting NYC. Their ice creams are delicious, and you can choose whether you want a dish or cone. You pay first, and then select your flavor. They also have milkshakes. I always get the Straciatella milkshake! This specific location only has one cup size and it's regular ( I would say medium-large). We tried the various dairy-based flavors and fruit sorbets. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. The chocolates are great. However, writing a review as a PSA for anyone who visits this location - please check your receipts immediately after your purchase to ensure you were properly charged! I purchased only one type of loose chocolate (Nougatine), and the cashier charged the higher mix-and-match price instead. My friend who paid shortly after I paid was charged double for a chocolate box by another cashier. We noticed, pointed it out and we were both refunded the difference. However, for two different cashiers to both overcharge two different customers one after the other - one just got to wonder if (i) something is lacking with the training of the employees, and both instances were really honest mistakes by two different employees, or (ii) this store (located in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in NYC) realizes that customers (who frequent this location) are not of the type who generally pays much attention to how much they are charged for their purchases, and as a result, employees can be sloppy at the register. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before coming to this Venchi for gelato. Never in my 33 years of living in NYC have I been treated so poorly. And as someone from Italian descent, I can say never have I been treated this way in Italy. The manager, Juan, basically tried to ignore me. I had been waiting in line for 15 minutes and he came behind the counter and tried to start waiting on two young women who just walked in. I told him I had been waiting a while, which he knew since he made eye contact with me before turning to the women behind me. I insisted that he take me first and he very reluctantly charged me for the size of gelato I wanted, then he told me to step aside and he proceeded to help these women. I said I would like to get my gelato (he would not even take my order for flavors) and he ignored me and continued to talk to these women. I asked the two women working behind the counter if someone would help me and they looked horrified by the way the manager was behaving. I then asked for a refund and left. While he was giving me my refund, he acted smug and indignant. Seriously, what kind of business is this? Do not give them your money, they don't deserve it. read more

This Gelato spot is definitely a hit, and I can see why. With a good variety of gelato options this place has some of the more delicious gelato that I've experienced here in the city. If you're confused about what flavor you might want to get, just ask to sample some flavors and they'll happily oblige. Really dig how they put a syrup on the bottom of their cups which adds to the flavors. I've had a variety of flavors from here both from a cup and cone and really don't have any complaints but that's probably because I know what I like. You should come here and give this place a try. It definitely gets super busy in the evenings, especially during the nicer times of the year. There's some limited seating to enjoy your gelato so try and grab some if can. read more
