A group of us had dinner before the play our friend wrote. It's a comfy place with foods that are unexpectedly so delicious! The best thing was friendly service by Antonio! We will come back for sure and I even told him I would bring my friends from Japan when they come to visit me!

Garlic bread!! YUM

I Stumbled on this little restaurant while visiting Venice beach. The food was AMAZING the pizza was the best pizza I've ever had and the pasta was GREAT. The owner and staff were so friendly and kind helping with anything we needed. The seating is lovey, I would come here again and again.

Shrimp pasta and Lasagna Bolognese

Kind man behind the counter and food was simple + fresh. Big fan of the garlic bread spread and my friend had a chai that was delicious. Also open on New Years Day. Will come back

This place is a cool hidden gem but not too hidden. The man at the counter is incredibly kind, reassuring that everything is freshly cooked. Such a great experience of good Italian food.

Linguini puttanesca and penne arrabiatta with chicken

We were on our way to our favorite sushi place when we were drawn to the happy sounds of laughter coming from the patio. The smell of garlic and tomato sauce drew us inside and we are so glad we stayed. This unassuming pizza and pasta place is a one-man-show complete with personalized, heartfelt service and delicious filling food. What a fun serendipitous evening! We had the pasta puttanesca - mildly spicy garlic and tomato sauce over linguini noodles with olives, capers, peppers and mushrooms. I opted to skip the anchovies. It was delicious! We took half home for the next day. We also ordered the penne arrabiatta (sp?) with chicken - spicy and slightly creamy tomato sauce that was cooked perfectly. We also took half of that home! Topped off with a bottle of Chianti (it was warm but otherwise delicious and reasonably priced) and we got a bottle of San pelligrino sparkling water. All for under $100 for 2. We felt like we were dining at an Italian trattoria. It seemed like the customers who joined us on the patio were all from out of town. We just moved to the neighborhood and we can see making this our go to date night spot.(also posted this review to google)

It's a family-owned business with great service, delicious taste, and homemade sauces.

This place was a bit tourist trappy. Its a tad bit pricey for an 'order at the front find your own seating' place. The older gentleman that took our order was kind however everything else was mid in all honesty. If youre in the mood for some pizza you can get a better tasting pizza somewhere else for a way better price it was honestly kinda bland, nothing special. Although service wise they were kind it was extremely slow. On a Friday evening they only had one older Hispanic man running the whole kitchen not very packed at all but took 45+ mins for one pizza we ordered. I asked if they can please bring extra sauce and the man said "not sure I will see" and he just never brought it. I asked if they maybe had ranch and he said no. I know they are "authentic italian" but I have been to many Italian places and this isnt an issue so I was a bit disappointed considering they also never brought initial sauce request. Last thing if they offer you glass of wine, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for a whole bottle i'd kindly refuse. Overall was just ok. Giving 3 stars because the man was friendly.

I'm an Americana fan, so I was excited to learn that Route 66 turns 100 this year. That's when I…read morediscovered that the historic western end of Route 66 is right here in my neck of the woods--Mel's Diner in Santa Monica. I finally visited earlier this week with one of my nieces, who was in town from Kauai. For a Monday evening, I was pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant had a healthy crowd. AMBIANCE This isn't a cozy, homey diner. The concrete floors and walls give it more of an industrial feel. That said, each table has its own jukebox, which instantly gives the place that classic American diner atmosphere. SERVICE Our server reminded me of the old-school diner waitresses from movies set in the 1950s and 1960s--efficient, brisk, and focused on getting the job done. I was curious whether that image reflected reality or was simply a Hollywood stereotype, so I looked it up afterward. It turns out that traditional diner service really was known for being fast, efficient, and no-nonsense: seating customers quickly, taking orders, serving hot food promptly, keeping coffee cups full, collecting payment, and moving on to the next table. Our server was certainly speedy, but he was also more accommodating than those classic diner stereotypes. He pointed out to my niece that ordering fries with her sandwich might be too much since we were already ordered a type of fries as an appetizer. He also patiently answered my questions about the Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner, which I had my eye on. At the end of our meal, my niece mentioned something about her own experience as a restaurant server. By then, though, he was clearly ready to move on to his next table. Fair enough-- it made the experience feel even more like an old-school diner. Haha! DRINKS One pleasant surprise: they serve Spiked Milkshakes. My niece was thrilled! As for me, I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, and -- it easily held its own against glasses I've paid considerably more at upscale restaurants. APPETIZER Bacon Ranch Cheese Fries -- Need I say more? MAIN COURSES Reuben Sandwich (with colesalw instead of fries, thanks to our server's suggestion). My niece loved it. Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner -- Absolutely delicious! The meat was incredibly tender. I ordered the demi glace (sauce) on the side because I wasn't familiar with it. I asked our server whether it was sweet, and he said kind of. So I decided to try it separately and requested it on the side. It turned out to be rich, savory, and the perfect complement to the short rib. I'm glad I ordered it that way. I highly recommend the Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner. DESSERT We skipped dessert because my nieces' spiked milkshake was practically dessert on its own. PARKING The restaurant has its own parking lot immediately next door. I got lucky and found an open space as soon as I drove in--just a few steps from the entrance. It reminded me of those movie scenes where the main character somehow always finds the perfect parking spot right in front of where they're going. BOTTOM LINE Overall, we had a very enjoyable dinner. If you're looking for a classic American diner experience -- especially if you're a Route 66 enthusiast -- Mel's Diner is definitely worth a visit.

I ordered an omelette sandwich while my gf went with the ham steak breakfast, and we shared a peanut butter milkshake that was surprisingly good. It's conveniently located near the 10 freeway, though traffic around the area can get a little hectic

A Cherished Best Cafe Restaurant Experience…read more If you ever need to wake up, relax and unwind on a beautiful morning, to start your day right, like me, look no further than the Killer Cafe. Honestly, it's my MdR morning brunch sanctuary. Before I head back to my place in the Manhattan Beach area and at times to my first home Malibu (Yes I'm a Malibu native haha), this is where I go to hit the "reset" button on life. Other than naturally walking and talking to my Jesus (my lineage and spiritual faith not religious at all but just a relationship with) throughout the day on the norm. It is, without a doubt, my favorite way to start the day. Why It's Pure Magic * The First Impression: You'll know you've arrived the moment you see that gorgeous, antique-style front door. It's like stepping into a little slice of heaven. I love love! * The View That Wins: Once you're inside, the open floor plan flows right out to the patio, offering the single best view in the entire town. It is breathtaking, refreshing, and the perfect backdrop for a perfect breakfast. Love so much! * The "Dream Team": The staff here--from Pedro to Giovanni and every wonderful soul in between--are absolute cool guys. They are the definition of polite, welcoming, and diligent. It is so rare and refreshing to see such genuine, hardworking people, and it makes every visit feel like a warm air hug. * The Heart of the Place: You can tell the Owner is truly blessed to have built this, and it's no surprise, given what a genuinely kind person he is. He's created something so special that the staff stays for years and years. Even when I see them looking a little tired from their faces, they are still smiling and happy to be here. That level of dedication says everything you need to know about the heart of this restaurant. Honestly? I love this place so much, it's not even funny--though I am currently accepting applications for the owner to adopt me! Haha. Jk If you haven't treated yourself to a meal (and a view) here yet, you are missing out on one of the best experiences in town. Whether you're a local or just passing through, come for the food, stay for the views, and leave with a full heart. Trust me, you'll be planning your next visit before you've even finished your coffee! Highly recommend here! Always! I Royally Approve! :)

This was recommended to me by someone who is local to the diner and it is the kind of spot that you go to when you want to be treated like family or like neighbors and eat good food. To be honest, I don't know how long it has been here. It has the feel of diners that have been around for a while but is cleaner and brighter. They have tons of seating inside and outside. Our server was amazing and told us that he started working there as a part-time job decades ago, but he loved it and stayed because he loved the people that come through here. And because he loves his job that also comes through in the service and food. I ordered huevos rancheros and a black coffee. I could seriously sit there and drink the coffee all day. It is so smooth and it does the job of waking me up! I just love the mug that they serve it in with the thick ceramic walls. The rancheros were delicious and exactly as I hoped and the perfect amount that I did not feel overly heavy. I promise I will go back just so I can make sure to take food pictures next time. This location was the perfect halfway point for all of us. We arrived bright and early around 9:30 AM on a Wednesday. I had called ahead to reserve a booth, my absolute favorite kind of seating. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and immediately seated. Our server (I unfortunately forgot his name!) was fantastic. He brought out fresh coffee right away, took our breakfast orders, and was extremely kind, polite, and attentive throughout our entire meal. The menu has plenty of options, ranging from scratch-made omelettes and burritos to salads and a dedicated kids' menu. The Breakfast Plate Specials ($12-$14) Both my cousin and aunts ordered this. It came loaded with pancakes, hashbrowns, sausage, and toast--an absolute steal for the price~ Turkey Club Sandwich & Fries: I was in the mood for lunch, so I opted for the club. The fries were hot and perfectly crispy. The sandwich itself was wonderful, packed with turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. My only tiny critique is that I wish it came with mayo (I'm a huge mayo fan!). However, I ordered a side of ranch which paired perfectly and really elevated the sandwich. The vibe here is incredibly laid-back, welcoming, and brightly lit. Everything--including the restrooms--was sparkling clean. They had TVs playing a local soccer game and a nice bar area where it looks like they serve up a great selection of beer and wine for happy hour. I didn't grab an alcoholic drink this time, but I already have my eye on a cranberry mimosa for my next visit! Before you leave, make sure to check out the front counter--they have a massive display of freshly baked cookies, pies, and other goodies~ For the price, the food is absolutely worth it and the service is top-notch. Thank you so much, Dinah's Comfort Kitchen--we will definitely be back when we're in the area again!

The restaurant itself was very cool, it had an old diner feel but with the decor, lighting and music it was hip and trendy. All the tables were full and the menu looked very interesting. They took old diner staples and modernized it. Great concept!! We started off with garlic bread which was two pieces of cibata bread with 3 bulbs of roasted garlic in olive oil. The presentation was beautiful and while it was messy, it was yummy. The ratio of garlic to bread was off. There was so much garlic and only two pieces of bread. It should have been 4 pieces. For dinner, I ordered the crispy chicken (fried chicken) with greens which was very good. The breading was spiced perfectly and the chicken was moist and yummy. My husband went for the cheese burger, cooked medium rare with fries. Unfortunately, the burger came out well done and Johnny immediately took it back to and had another burger made. After a long while and mind you I had to eat by myself kind of killing the experience, the burger came back and again it was more well than medium which was very frustrating. Johnny and the manger of the restaurant stopped by and asked to do it again and he declined. They said they will take it off the bill which was very nice. The bill came and when I reviewed it, we saw the billed included both burgers (original and the replacement) with the two credits, as well as, a 4 percent kitchen charge. However, when it summed up the tip, it based it on everything that came to our table. For example, the original bill if everything was perfect should have been $75 it added the replacement burger and I increased it to $100. So the calculated 20% tip was $20 based on the $100. My check balance with the burger credit was $62 including tax, plus a $19 tip. I knew exactly what was going on but since Johnny was an attentive and good waiter we wanted to make sure he was compensated for his work. I wasn't going to make a big deal about the 4% for the kitchen but in this case, it was there incompetence that caused the problem and that should have never been passed to us. Overall, would we go back to Diner Antoinette on our next holiday to Santa Monica, probably not.

Unfortunately, my experience at Great White in Venice left me disappointed, and the main reason was the service. First, we arrived around 9:15 a.m. after seeing that the restaurant opened at 8:00 a.m., only to find out that opening had been delayed until 9:30 a.m. Honestly, that wasn't a problem at all. We waited outside, and when guests started arriving, we got in line and ended up being among the first few parties seated. The food itself was good, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. My issue was with our server, Nate. I understand that everyone has bad days, and I also work in the hospitality industry, so I try to be very understanding. However, the service felt extremely cold, detached, and uninterested from the beginning to the end of our meal. I'm not expecting over-the-top friendliness or a formal introduction, but there was virtually no warmth, no engagement, and no sense that he wanted to be there. Throughout our visit, an older gentleman working on the floor (possibly a busser or food runner) showed far more hospitality, attentiveness, and genuine care for guests than our actual server did. After we had finished eating, I ordered an orange juice while waiting for some pancakes to-go. I was asked whether I wanted the juice for here or to-go, and I specifically requested it for here. I then waited approximately 30 minutes. During that time, I received my check, paid my bill (including a generous tip), and watched multiple tables that had been seated after us receive their drinks and food while I continued waiting. My server walked by several times, looked in our direction, but never followed up or asked if we were still waiting on anything. Eventually, I flagged down another server, who was very kind and immediately looked into the situation. She returned and explained that the orange juice had apparently never made it onto the screen. However, I had taken a photo of my receipt, and the orange juice was clearly listed and charged. The issue was never the $10 orange juice. Mistakes happen. We all make them. The disappointing part was that nobody simply acknowledged the mistake or offered a sincere apology. A quick "I'm sorry, that was my mistake" would have completely changed the experience. One additional observation: I was told that cash is only accepted if you have the exact amount. That's perfectly fine, but I think that policy should be clearly posted at the entrance or on the restaurant's website so guests know beforehand. Again, I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, and I genuinely wanted to leave a positive one because the food and atmosphere were enjoyable. Unfortunately, hospitality is about more than just delivering food to a table. Based on this experience, it seemed that our server either dislikes working in customer service or was having a very bad day. Either way, many other staff members we interacted with demonstrated the warmth, energy, and hospitality that guests hope to experience when dining out.
