Petramale Pizza is a local favorite. They're only open on Fridays at Venice church. There are a few picnic tables, but most people take to go. They take same-day orders over the phone for a specific pick-up time and hopefully will be on delivery apps one day. Cash only. For the food: It's a solid NY style pizza. There are several topping options and daily specials. We ordered the sausage + peppers. There are many who have done Margherita with Pepperoni, aka Margaroni and I will have to try that next time.

    Foggy night.

Pizza on Friday afternoon only? And in a church parking lot, order by phone (not text), cash or I think it was Zelle? That actually made it difficult to time for me, as Friday afternoons and early evenings are rough. Oddly it all works, even on a foggy evening. The ovens are surprisingly ample sized considering they're a portable setup, service is quick, and they're quite friendly. Whole pies only means you'd better have friends to share. Quality is pretty solid although they have very stiff competition these days that have easier hours and online ordering.

Love how exclusive this experience felt! I took a day off work for this. lol They are only available on Fridays! Must call to order. :) Great customer service! They give complimentary drinks and cannolis with your order. Located across the street from a church and their oven is on top of a truck, which is super cool and efficient! I was so impressed! Chill seating area outside to enjoy your thin-crusted New York pizza! I loved the crispiness of the pizza, loved the tart sauce, melty cheese, basil and small pepperonis.

Been craving pizza for a while, saw this place 4min walk away and had to try. Got the New York New York and added mushrooms 32 + 4 $ While looking at the menu, someone asked if I was here for pick up and helped me decide what to order. Came out p quick

Amazing pizza, perhaps the best I've had in LA. It's also quite the experience ordering and picking up - the staff makes you feel like you're part of the community and family. We've picked up 3 times now, and while you can't exactly know when it's gonna be ready and parking can be a lil challenging, it's worth it! The crust cook and chew is perfect - it's thin and light. The cheese has a good pull, and the toppings don't overwhelm the pie. Recommend trying it once. Amazing work by a special crew!

Back at Petramale Pizza today and the Pizza was amazing as always. Steve is the most hospitable owner I've ever met. He really makes you feel like Family. The crust is truly amazing. Light and airy with a crunch you can hear a mile away! Some of the best crust I've ever had and the sauce and cheese is incredible too! I've had Pizza in most of the major cities in the USA and this holds up to All of them. So it you want NY style or Sicilian Style Pizza I highly recommend Petramale Pizza. This Pizza is Truly Addictive! So if you're in Los Angeles Run don't Walk to Petramale Pizza!

Pizza was AMAZING and so good! Did the Margherita with pepperoni and sausage and didn't disappoint. First but definitely not the last time

Update: Fantastic service as always. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. They didn't have the free signature meatballs but I was handed home made chili instead. I noticed they now have plenty of seating. I ordered a custom pie. It was perfect. The char on the crust, the sauce and the toppings were on point. Steve has perfected his craft. Cherry on top, I left with some complementary cannolis to boot! It's great to see an entrepreneur thrive on quality, customer service and all the hard work that goes into making a successful business. Customer for life!

Petramale still pumping out the pies and pummeling the pizza haters over the head with 4-5 day fermented doughs, premium toppings, and perfect cooks. You want your pizza chef to have a haircut like Steve. That's a GOOD thing.

Margherita in the car - first bite was too tempting to wait for a photo

SF Gate's headline intrigued me. It said 'Find Calif.'s best NY-style pizza once a week in a church parking lot.' I travel the world for pizza, so a trip to LA to savor what the sub headline stated was too enticing to pass 'Self-taught pizzaiolo Steve Petramale slings superlative pies from a flatbed truck at Petramale Pizza.' Anyone can paint, but only a few rise up to be the Monet's, Da Vinci's, Michelangelo or Picassos. Such is the ephemeral world of pizza. Anyone can buy the finest 00 flour, plump juicy tomatoes, artisan cheese, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil, but only a rare few rise to deserve the moniker of expert pizzaiolos. If there was a perfect pizza, it would last for 3 days, and a slice would survive the trip back to SF, and each new day, the slices would take you to promised land and create magic. It happened once with the late great Brooklyn legend Dominic Di Fara and his hand cut basil and home made Calabrian Chile oil, at Antico Forno Roscioli in Rome, and now with the Friday Flatbed miracle in a Venice church parking lot with Petramale Pizza. I always try to order the most basic pizza - the Margherita - which is anything but basic - but allows for comparison. The Margherita at Petramale gets the ratio of dough to sauce and cheese in the zone of happiness. The dough is sophisticated as it transforms into a crust in the oven at the back of a flatbed truck, it's close to the perfect symphony of hydration that makes a dough sing a duet with yeast, without getting flooded. The sauce isn't sweet, but a trip to the sublime, aided by pecorino Romano and mozzarella, with the basil dancing with the EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) into a slice that's got the bare minimal char, and is perfectly cooked. The pizza is large, and the friendly staff offers a free drink and an option of meatball (which I declined to save my palette for the pizza). Chef Steve recommends the margheroni, its the same Margherita I loved, with pepperoni (definitely next time). The atmosphere at the back of the church parking lot is festive, communal and feels welcoming. Chef Steve and his crew try to comp the pizza for the distance I travelled, I decline. It won't be an honest review if I haven't paid for the dough. I almost did not want to write a review. As an undiscovered yet discovered by a few gem, if this place blows up and invites lines the size of the Vatican, it would make it hard to keep the sublime sacred, scale being the enemy of special, while jostling for a slot with the fashionably late 'foodies'. Fridays only. Cash only. Easy parking. 1.30-6 pm or so. Phone orders accepted. Chef Steve and his passionate crew deserve their own full-time restaurant (if they so desire) and share their gift of their spiritual pizza experience with more of us.

Unfortunately, the food and service were closer to a 2/5. The best thing I ordered was the tuna tartare, which I'd rate a 4/5. However, the bread served with it was awful. It tasted like cardboard, and I honestly had to spit it out because it was so unpleasant. The pizza was extremely underwhelming. I don't understand why Instagram keeps hyping this place as having some of the best pizza in LA. It absolutely did not live up to the hype. I'd give the pizza a 3/5 at best. The Caesar salad was also disappointing. The dressing tasted like it came straight from a bottle, and the crushed croutons added nothing but an odd texture. The romaine and kale did not taste fresh to me. The oysters also did not taste fresh to me, which made them difficult to enjoy. Service was equally frustrating. The waitress told me to grab a bottle of Grattamacco Chianti 2022 from the fridge myself, only for it not to be there. When I finally got the wine, the bartender served it in a regular water glass. I had to ask for an actual wine glass. It was also unclear that you need to order through the bartender. Overall, the atmosphere is great, but that's where the positives end. Between the mediocre food, ingredients that did not taste fresh to me, and disorganized service, I left wondering what all the hype was about. Based on my experience, I would not return.

In the same vein, we stuck with a similar style of food and ended up at Propaganda. There was little to no wait, which was pleasant. It was a nice day and we decided to eat outside. The focaccia bread and salad came out first, and both were good. I enjoyed the crispiness of the bread, though my only qualms were that the bread was quite oily and the butter and salt were just a tad bit too salty for my liking. The Insalata Mista salad was solid. Good flavor, good dressing-to-salad ratio, and a surprisingly good portion size. As far as pizza goes, the Margherita was good. Tasty, moist, and a nice crunch on the crust. I found it to be enjoyable, though I may have enjoyed more fresh basil on this. I did find it better than the Boscaiola. I got the black truffle honey add on, and it does not go well on this pizza in my opinion. There was virtually no taste of truffle to me, and more of just an aftertaste of oily sweet honey. This was a miss. It's hard to say whether the base pizza was good without it because the flavor profile was just too overpowered by the aftertaste. The Arts District is definitely coming up with new upscale dining establishments, and I'm there for it. I think this is a solid addition. Though this is a wine bar, I don't generally drink, so my review is based purely on the food. Results of their drinks, which is quite an extensive list, may be to your liking! They do have an inexpensive three wine flight, for reference!
