I stopped by Sampa's Pizza Cafe located on Washington Boulevard in the strip mall with Wells Fargo just south. The interior is clean and inviting and they have both inside and outside seating while I always prefer takeout since I live just down the street. I arrived around 9:00PM and Gustalvo was closing, but was more than happy to take my order which was a Pizza Marguerita and a Salad. I appreciate the fact he not only took my order, but at least two more after me! That is a person who appreciates the business! The bill was $31.00 plus a $5.58 Tip for great service. My only criticism of Sampa's is that the pie is never hot upon arrival at home or even when I receive it. It seems the time out of the oven to packaging is long, and it is the one things that prevents me from coming back more often. If they can figure that out, I would be a regular. Stopped in for my first time this past weekend for dinner and overall had a good experience however, the service could've been a lot better. It's located in a small shopping center that has plenty of free parking right out front. Inside is quite small, there are tables to dine in, but most seem to order to go from here. They have many different options on the menu from Brazilian pizza options to traditional Italian American options. They also have sandwiches and desserts. The issue we had is when we arrived and we walked in there were two ladies behind the counter. One looked at us as soon as we walked up to the counter and then immediately looked away and continued doing what she was doing. Another who eventually took our order, had her back turned for at least five minutes while we just stood there. It was odd to me that the first lady who saw us and didn't even say welcome or hello or anything, but rather we just stood there and waited for them to finish. Was not a great first impression. The food itself was pretty good however the center of my pizza was pretty soggy. We ordered a half and half of the Calabresa spicy sausage and Margarita. The flavors were nice, but I don't think it was cooked long enough or maybe had too much sauce in the middle because the center was very soggy even an hour after I picked it up. Overall, I would suggest if you are immediately in the vicinity like I am otherwise there are a few more famous pizza restaurants around LA if you are in the mood for the best version that you can get. read more

Spontaneously decided to try this place while visiting Marina Del Rey. I actually didn't look into the details of this place and once I ordered I realized it is a Brazilian style pizza! First time trying it, you can definitely tell the quality of ingredients is great, dough is a little on the chewier side but perfectly cooked. I enjoyed the thin aspect of it. I have to say their sauce definitely has different notes compared to the average pizza sauce. Felt much lighter. I'm happy they allow half/half options so you can try two in one. Hawaiian pizza was very delicious and felt very fresh while the burrata pesto definitely had brighter notes from the fresh cherry tomatoes. Didn't taste much pesto though. Tried their pistachio/ricotta cake and cheesecake brulee. Pistachio/ricotta cake was pretty balanced in flavor and sweetness, 7/10. The cheesecake brulee has a cookie crust which was interesting and a little too sweet, 6/10. Staff was extremely kind and I would consider trying other items. Such an absolute bummer. The wings were soggy. The pizza was small and the entire toppings just came off. It was all soggy. The lasagna tasted like chef boyardi. What we just ate was not worth $90 for a soggy medium size pizza, soggy wings and cheese bread but NO cheese, just oily garlic. Now my stomach hurts and I couldn't even finish it. This place has surprisingly amazing pizza. The slices are small but the cheese/sauce ratio is perfect, the toppings are not only instagram worthy but delicious, and the crust is actually good! Like you actually look forward to finishing the ends your pizza crust after each slice. The inside of the restaurant is a little small, but it's supposed to be a European styled cafe, so it's quaint and clean, cute, and decorated very well. Parking here is a piece of cake too. The woman who checked me out was very kind and offered me utensils. My only pet peeve is the ranch dressing: I'm pretty sure they just use Hellmans ranch (East coast for Best Foods) so it's very much tasted like mayonnaise, but hey, if you depend on ranch for you pizza then that means the pizza kinda stinks anyway. A gem of a pizza place in Marina Del Ray! One of my best friends introduced me to this place, as it is one of her favorite local restaurants. There are a few parking spots in front of the restaurant, which appeared to be shared with other businesses in the same plaza. Luckily, we went later in the evening, so there were plenty of spaces. The inside of the restaurant is small and decorated simply. When I first walked in, I did notice that Sampa's had several accolades for serving some of the best pizza in LA. Always a good sign. Their menu includes Brazilian, Italian, and American pizzas. You can order by the slice, which is amazing! I ordered a Sao Paulo pizza slice from the Brazilian menu and a Funghi Al Tartufo pizza slice from the Italian menu. The Sao Paulo pizza was unique and definitely a "must try" if you are looking for something different. The Funghi Al Tartufo was delicious and something I would order again! The desserts were delicious too! My friend and I shared a slice of the Amaretto cake and it was perfect - if you love almond, definitely give this a try! We also got the mixed berry pie - good balance of sweet and tart. Service was great - since it was close to closing, we got an extra slice of the mixed berry pie. Would 100% come back! Wow. Surprisingly good! As a New Englander that worked on Wall Street, I know my pizza. I actually led a pizza tour a decade ago, sampling more than 40 pizzerias along the Northeast Atlantic coast (sort of what David Portnoy is doing these days..... maybe he stole my idea?). I rarely eat parlor pizza in LA because most of it is crap, or tastes like it should've been born an enchilada. There are few exceptions, but most of them are quite the drive from Venice/MdR. I live around the corner from Sampa's, and never even noticed it until I rode my bike through the parking lot and saw it. I wasn't that interested until I looked it up and saw some very decent ratings. I happened to have my pizza connoisseur son with me, so we ventured in, expecting to be disappointed like we have many times in the past. But no...... Sampa is quite the surprise! Because they pride themselves on having a Brazilian twist on some of their dishes, I opted for a traditional meat-lovers pizza, and decided on the Sao Paolo (chicken, corn, mozzarella). Both were delicious! I won't say it compares to traditional East coast pizza, but that wouldn't be a fair assessment. Sampa has their own style, and they own it. The ingredients are super clean, flavors are unique, and you just have to try it for yourself. I'll be back! read more

Worst service / experience ever during my lunch break form work. I just placed a pickup order here for myself from Uber Eats and waited in the parking lot for 20 minutes and then walked in to get my order. The girl at the register says "Sorry we ran out of spaghetti and meatballs and you'll have to call uber eats customer service." THEY DIDN'T EVEN CONTACT me through the app to let me know they were out of my item to ask for a substitute, which any uber eats customer's know they're supposed to do. Furthermore she thinks it's MY job to call uber eats on my LUNCH BREAK because THEY messed up putting an item on the uber eats menu that they don't have. What awful business because look at the result. It was only after I TOLD the girl at the register I will make a substitution and then the problem was solved. She didn't even have the foresight to ask me about a substitution, I had to come up with that real hard solution. You absolutely deserve this 1-satr review and I reported to Uber Eats that you don't notify customers when you are out of their items which is a huge NO on that app. read more

I was in a hurry and wondered over the years if I had misjudged the place and misunderstood the apparent defensive posturing by management. (Not the case) They blame a lot of complaints about the food and cost on their striving for quality, not quantity, etc. But, the one in which they wish the customer good luck in their pizza quests/adventures because they are Brazilian and they know that their pizza is not for everyone is rather insulting. The message is that they know and the customer is an idiot. And they essentially say, don't bother us, look elsewhere. And you what, I am an idiot for trying again to find something that might be worthwhile to get again. Well, for me, when ingredients fall off the slice, it doesn't meet my expectations or needs. Or, when the ingredients are off the pie and inside the box, well, there is something wrong. Further, ingredients should be evenly distributed so each slice has some of what has been promised. Writing these things is a waste of my time, but hopefully I can help one person who is look for decent pizza to avoid this rather expensive/small pie joint, where management says if you don't like their food it's YOU because they are experts in Brazilian. Nice, laidback folks (i.e, that work there). Interesting selection of beers, Brazilian soft drinks and Brazilian desserts. Upretentious, strip mall place. Not a Michelin -starry evening-out experience, but for what it is, it's very good.
