I use their self wash option often for my pup, Twinkle. You can book a 30 min or 1 hour time slot for the self wash tub, we usually do 30 mins. They provide the tub, towels, and have a variety of shampoo and conditioners to choose from. There is also a dryer but I don't use dryers on Twinkle so I can't comment on how that works. It's near home and a great option, and they have a rewards system that gives you a free wash after every 11 or 12 washes I think it is. I do wish they did a better job of cleaning the tub in between clients, as sometimes when we go in, the trash is full of dog hair or worse, there's some leftover hair already in the tub. I always give the tub a spray down before I put Twinkle in it. Overall happy with this place and will continue to bathe Twinkle here. read more

I have been a customer here for over a year. I have purchased items for both of my dogs and some items for friends dogs as well. Today was my last visit. I bought a ball which is a treat dispensing ball and within two minutes my dog ate a portion of the ball. (Yes, he swallowed it.) Not the stores fault by the way. I ended up with a very sick dog (also not the stores fault). I personally think this ball should be removed from store shelves. It is dangerous and I have vet bills to prove this. I decided to return the ball, and guess what? The generally rude small guy who works their wouldn't refund. It was under 10 dollars! A customer is generally worth thousands over a lifetime and you lost one over a 10 dollar ball. I have been coming here since 2011, and can't say enough good things about this wonderful place. They have all the products that I and my dog loves, from healthy food to fun toys and everything in between. I really trust the owner picking out only good things for our pets. I know they care. You can tell by the way they love their own animals, and how sweet they are with mine. I also feel appreciated by their rewards program. I honestly feel so happy they exist. Great spot to shop for specialty brand off goods and do the self washing services they offer. The people are nice and there is plenty of parking. Not five stars just because the dryer in the self service blows cold which my doggies hate and because they don't have any tools to borrow for combing out the dogs, when I ask about them they said they used to but people would steal them. Recently took my Yorkie in for a quick bath. Paid $12 which I thought was reasonable. All was great, except there was a ShopVac hose pinned to the wall that blew cold air n played off as a dryer. The vacuumed seemed out of touch with the four-legged customers whom I'm sure would much prefer to wrap up their pampering or wash-n-go sesh with warm/hot air not cold air. It's a smallish store near the Pacific View Mall (not in the mall) and has a nice assortment of quality dog and cat foods, dog toys, and a small variety of supplies and food for birds and small animal pets. The employee in the store was friendly and helpful with me and with each other customer that came in. He had great suggestions and was knowledgeable about their products. I bought a chicken food toy (seriously, a food toy specifically designed for chickens!) and some soft training treats for dogs. They have a lot of cool collars and bandanas at the front too, including some very attractive designs and some with a lot of nice bling! read more

This pet store is located in Ventura near the Pacific View Mall. Lots of parking on Main Street and there is a back parking as well. The aisles were a little compact but the back area where you pay is very spacious. The store seems very well stocked. I myself prefer small businesses rather than large corporations. This Pet store does not have animals for sale, however every 3rd Sunday of the month they have bunny adoptions ! That's right bunnies ! I took my daughter and she had a blast! I always wanted to have a reason to shop at this business so was excited that I now was ready to go shopping for the new pups. Unfortunately when I visited this store the person who helped me was near-rude, made me ask all the questions and never offered any suggestions. She seemed more interested in getting back to doing her inventory duties instead of helping me. At the very beginning I told here I was ready to buy everything for our pups; harnesses, beds, food...and much more. Based on my negative experience I went to other local businesses and spent lots of money at those stores. VENTURA Pet Barn is my source for top quality chow for my rescue pups, (now ages 9, 12, 19 1/2 and HEALTHY, with thick coats), dog shampoo, dog car bed & restraint systems. IF I have a question the workers are very knowledgeable about products & the quality of ingredients. They have discontinued brands who have substituted inferior ingredients. MOSTLY when I go in there is only one worker so I try to busy myself getting my things and wait for a good moment. The REWARDS CARD is fabulous! Each purchase of the same size package of same chow counts. When it gets full you get a free one (or a big discount - I can't remember!). CURRENTLY I've been taking advantage of evening dog training classes at Pet Barn. It's very convenient and my dogs love the stimulation of learning new things. I like the selection of dog toys and treats. The prices are high, but I try to shop locally, so I just buy less than I would normally. Sadly, I've been to this store three times, and the staff here are so rude. The staff that I've encountered seem really miserable and unpleasant, and this is bad for a pet store that should be a happy and fun place for pets and pet parents. I was recommended to Pet Barn for a few specific pet food brands they carried that the big chains do not have. They carry better quality brands and food that is healthier then any pet food you'll find at the corporate chains. I was surprised the well known pet stores did not carry these brands and after comparing the ingredients, and some gas spent puttering around town, this is now my one stop place for all of my dog's needs. I even saw the toothpaste I bought earlier that day for two dollars cheaper- corporate chains doesn't always mean better deals, and we can all afford to save a buck or two now and then! They also do pet adoptions on the weekends (call for the specific day, I can't remember if it was Saturday or Sunday) What is also great if you're limited on space at home, maybe don't have a full bathroom, or are strapped for cash to go to a groomer, they offer a self serve pet wash. I completely disagree with the negative reviews posted about the Pet Barn. I've been purchasing our dog food and pet needs from this store for over 15 years. The owner Tina, is one of the most knowledgeable pet store owners in Ventura. If you have a question she'll do her best to get you the right answer without relying on a lot of BS. If you don't like something you've bought, she'll take it back without any questions. The dog food she carries is not always the cheapest you can find like in the chain pet stores. However, you can rest assured your pet is not going to be poisoned by some Chinese by-product an unscrupulous pet food manufacturer decided to include to boost profits to their share holders. Tina and her employees care way too much about her customers and their pets to ever let that happen. Plus the Pet Barn one of the only places in town where you can give your dog a bath without too much hassle or costs. Finally I would like to say kudos to the Pet Barn for allowing CARL to share their back half of the store for dog adoptions. I had a lot of fun here. They have a multitude of different toys for dogs and cats. Lots of specialty items and many different special foods. Make sure the expiration date is correct. My favorite thing here that I purchased was their clicker training for cats. I am really excited to try and teach my kitten clicker training and the girl behind the counter assured me that it has worked for her cat. Pet Barn is the best if youre looking for high quality pet food. Its the only place i buy mine. The toys are great as well, they last WAY longer than any cheapy toy from big chain stores. The puppy training classes were amazing and essential for me and at such a great price. Its so important to socialize your pup, especially one as timid as mine was. The classes broke him out of his shell and i still use the same tactics today when i want to teach him something new. Most recently i got his teeth cleaned for the first time here. NO anesthesia required and they looked beautiful afterward!! SOO much cheaper and of course safer than going under at the vets. Ask the staff when they have the next available appointments because it isnt available allll of the time. They only advertise it during the specific dates that the professional teeth cleaning company will be in their store. Every time I walk into this store, I am floored by the selection. The only place I've found that beats Pet Barn is all the way up in Lake Tahoe. They've got all sorts of human training devices, including three different no-pull harnesses in every size. They're got them all out of the packages and waiting for you to try on your dog, too! This is the only place I've found the Freedom Harness, and their price on it beats anything I've found online. They've also got an amazing selection of high-quality toys of every sort. Once again, I find stuff here that I've never seen in any other shop. Add to that a fabulous selection of chews, high quality dog and cat foods, fancy and practical collars, ridiculously fun bird toys...it never ends! I am particularly impressed with their selection of frozen raw dog food. Their remarkably low prices made it possible for me to feed my dog raw for years. I've been a customer since before they moved to their current location, and I am thrilled with how they have expanded their selection in the larger space.
