I am rating this one star, not because of the food, but because of the service. I came in here to try their Italian Meatballs because they're associated with the Belly app that offered free Italian meatballs, no purchase necessary. When I arrived, I showed them the free reward and they said OH NO YOU HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING. Mr. Venuti would never offer free food. Then someone rudely chimed in and said," what they don't have money to buy food." I was giving this restaurant a try because I had never heard of it or had their food. Amazing! When we got engaged we knew we wanted to find a venue that would both wow our guests with beauty and provide over the top service. Out of all the places we looked nothing stood a chance next to Venuti's! My husband and I had a blast working with Karen, the Venuti's event coordinator, the bartender when creating our signature drinks, and coming up with creative names for our martini bar. When it came to decor, Venuti's is already gorgeous so that took a lot of work off of our hands. The entire wedding day/night we were able to relax and know everything and everyone had been taken care of. Our guests were showered with food and drinks from the moment they stepped in the door. I recently visited the restaurant on Saturday May 10th with the family for a Mother's Day dinner. The service was horrible at best, and the food was luke warm at best. A waiter needed to pass our table to and from tables and when he would pass he would raise his banquet tray above and over our table to come and go to the dinning room. He never apologized and besides carrying the tray over the table he bumped into my daughters chair 4 times. I yelled out to him can you take another route and I received the look that could kill you. As the friends of what looked like the manager arrived they received the royal treatment, well I hope their around more often to make up for the guests your losing daily. Treat all of your customers the same and you will have a much better chance to survive in this business. Our server was overwhelmed, between ordering appts. and dinner it took her 30 minutes for the server to return to take our dinner order. And as far as refills on drinks it took longer. We arrived at 6:10 pm for dinner and left at 8:05 without ordering desert since we wanted to be home by midnight. Many guests sitting around us were very frustrated with service. The manager was very animated when barking out orders to his staff about which tables need service first. A very nice ambiance, prices are good but the service is terrible at best, I will not return. read more

Went back in and mentioned my Yelp ad as it said to above when I made my reservation. It left an even worse taste in my mouth than before. My group was seated all the way in the back by the kitchen and this time the food left something to be desired. Very unhappy with dining here both times, On one good note- we did stay for the Queens of Freestyle concert. the complimentary valet and complimentary coat check was very nice. I had my wedding here and Karen is amazing. She responds quickly to emails. This venue doesn't seem like they're all about up charging because it's wedding. A lot of my guests thought the food was good for a banquet and were surprised with the portions (ribeye was 14 oz). Majority of my guests also really enjoyed the chocolate mousse dessert. This place is a joke!! The owner has some major ego issues. He is so cheap it's funny. We were here for a shower that my family spent a lot of money. And of course he wants it in cash. Anyway, after spending money they complained at everything we did. They had their "family" there for a baby shower as well. And because of that they wanted to take tables away from us and not give any money back... oh and the 5 guys that came, they agreed to let us sit at the bar. Well since their family was there, they tried to make us leave!! Excuse me!? Make the my family pay for the 5-6 guys to eat their buffet and then tell them to go across the street.. there's so much more to write but not enough room to even type it all. WARNING: Stay FAR away from this place. I would go to Olive Garden before I come back there, and I hate Olive Garden! Oh and get this: another participant of the baby shower wrote a review and the owners called our family and asked us to take the review down!!!!! Unreal! This is for real live experiences. The Short & Sweet version: I have to say there is no place I would recommend better than Venut's! This goes both for their events & banquet hall & their restaurant. My wife and I had our wedding here & when we first spoke with Karen, we knew this was the place we wanted. Karen is a God-send, ownership is perfect! Service & food is superb! The Long Version: For those of you that are still reading. My wife & I first came across Venutis just searching for banquet halls for our wedding & came across several reviews, almost all recommended to talk to Karen. The 1st meeting Karen wasn't available & had to meet w/Pat. We figured we'd first give it a shot & I have to admit we were not at all enthralled with the experience. After reviewing more reviews and really loving the gorgeous banquet hall, we had to give it another chance. This time we specifically reached out to Karen to meet with her. The first meeting and walk-around (w/Karen) we loved the place and Karen was so helpful and very patient with all our tedious questions. The second you walk into the banquet side, you'll love the glamorous staircase, the tall ceilings & elegant feeling of everything overall. Meeting w/Karen was such a blessing. From the very 1st meeting we felt comfortable & she gave us plenty of tips & thoughts to help get us on the right track. We were very open as far as time of year/date, etc so she gave us all the info we could use. This was one of the only places we walked into that the 1st question (not even a question in our 1st talk as a matter of fact) wasn't "what's your budget?". It's not that it's a bad question but from a sales perspective, I can see it can be off putting where someone may not see it worth their time. Instead she asked what we wanted/needed, what we envisioned & what was important to us. We made our choices & covered several smaller details. We then got a lot of their info on their out of season packages which I highly recommend if you're not 100% set on a Spring/Summer wedding. It truly makes your dollar go a longer way. They have 3 main rooms (but only rent out 2, the middle is for ceremonies or can be used as an extension for either room). There is also a small circular room (fits 100 ppl and we opted out) that is offered as a ceremony room. They also rent this one alone during the day for smaller events like bridal/baby showers, etc. I love the natural light of this room and served us great for pictures and cocktail hour. The layout was wonderfully thought-out. There are 2 sets of bathrooms so each party has their own. Before we could sign a contract & reserve our date Karen asked if we had ever been to Venuti's, the restaurant or the banquet area. When we informed her that we hadn't she insisted that we come with some family for a tasting. She said you can't pick a place without trying the food first. Which was such a sweet thing. We ended up coming with some of our family and the food was so amazing. We put our deposit down the same day. The tasting we got was wonderful, it was in their restaurant and we got to meet the owner. He's always around the business & is extremely attentive. Whenever I imagine a well-run family business with more heart and passion for overall experience & service rather than the bottom line, this is the type of person I envision running it. The tasting went great! There was tons of communication/coordination before the big day & Karen was outstanding at every turn. They were easily able to alter a few guests' plates & adjust to their specific diet restrictions such as vegan or gluten free. Their plan also includes a cake which they direct you to deal w/the baker directly (The Baking Company). Venuti's covers the basic cake. You don't pay anything directly to the baker unless you want any upgrades. The best part of dealing w/Venuti's bakers was that we had a tasting w/them & then we were done. The Baking Institute and Venuti's coordinated all the delivery & setup times. We didn't have to worry about any of it. The day of, they give us a person that was our event manager/go-to person. It was relieving to have a specific person to go to for, issues, etc. The flow of the night went very well. They were able to adjust w/the flow of our event perfectly. We went w/butler style hors d'oeuvres which were a hit! (Most married couples will tell you they didn't get to try their hors d'oeuvres at their wedding but for us that wasn't the case. One of the servers brought us over a special plate with a little of everything.) Usually you go to a wedding and the food is cold or isn't ready at the same time, etc. but they hit it out of the park. They treated the guests like guests at a restaurant. Everyone was asked how they wanted their steaks cooked. Some of our guests were even able to make small requests and changes to their meals, like switching the fish for additional meat or requesting a second bowl of the delicious soup. Have gone for the little buffet/brunch type thing on Sunday. Very good food. Looks small when you first see it, but there's enough food. The best part is the taste. Tastes the same as homemade. I have a 100% Italian family that loves it, including the stubborn/older types who spend dual time in both countries, and usually hate "Italian" restaurants around town. Might be a little pricey, I know that buffet thing doesn't include drinks, but you can tell before you go in, and you get what you pay for. read more

We went there last week for the lunch buffet which runs Monday through Friday, from 11A.M to 2 P.M. Cost is about 16.00. Go, go, go!!! You won't be disappointed and you definitely will not leave hungry! Starting with the atmosphere, it was very friendly, bright, with white table linens and servers who actually smile when addressing you! Service was excellent, as was their food. You can do the buffet or order from the menu. We chose the buffet. I don't know how many to be exact, but I'd say there was at least 10 different salads, 10 different veggie dishes, 10 different meat and pasta entrees, plus pizza selections, breads and soups. They also offered 5-6 different home made desserts. I generally hate going to Italian Restaurants because I am Italian, grew up on Taylor Street and I know what good Italian food is supposed to taste like. The Venuit's experience totally surprised me. I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant! From beginning to end the food was excellent. We decided to go on a Saturday night around 8:00. We were seated right away and brought fresh bread(Foccacia and regular) with oil and cheese and water. The waiter came and took our drink and appetizer order. Drinks came out quickly. The appetizers were excellent! Three of us split fried calamari, crab claws, and a shrimp cocktail. They were all outstanding! Surprisingly fresh shrimp, the calamari was melt in your mouth delish, and the crab claws(my favorite) were ridiculous. You get a choice of soup or salad with your meal. Two of us had pasta faggioli and one had a caesar salad and we were all happy. One of the specials was a seafood risotto that you could get with red or white(garlic olive oil) sauce and you could also get it on linguini instead of rice. He had the rice and I had the linguini. They were both amazing! They had mussels, clams, calamari and shrimp. All cooked perfectly. Our friend had the chicken vesuvio. It came with a side of steamed vegetables and quartered potatoes. Excellent sauce! No one had room for dessert : ) There wasn't a bit of the food that we didn't enjoy! A huge plus was the outstanding service! Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive and quite nice. The busboys were on top of getting rid of empty plates quickly and our water glasses were kept full. They were also quite friendly. I had my wedding at Venuti's this past August during this covid situation. Karen and Mr. Frank we're so accommodating and helpful. They really did everything to make this work for us and our guests. They were able to provide ways to help people spread out to also make it safe and comfortable for us. All of our guests felt comfortable and had an amazing night. Food was delicious as usual and the servers were so responsive. The venue itself was beautiful, spacious, and clean. I'm grateful for everyone at Venuti's for making this day so special and exactly how I imagined. I'm lucky I got to have the wedding I planned during this rough pandemic. We have lived in the area for twenty years and have never been to family-owned Venuti's. On a recommendation we tried it and were very pleasantly surprised. It is in a beautiful building. Had a business dinner at the bar with colleagues. The food was adequate but certainly nothing special. What got me was how rude and unfriendly the bartender was. On several occasions she made comments about politics and her political views. Really? The last thing I want to do is listen to a rude bartender insert her politics. Keep it to yourself and try to be friendly and accommodating. Not too difficult. By the way we ignored her comments but clearly she wanted either an argument or agreement. read more

I visited Venutis today for lunch and the pasta I ordered with the homemade bread was delicious. I don't think I have eaten at another Italian place here in My neighborhood that has fresh pasta like this. I've visited Francesca's in Elmhurst but it doesn't compare to the authentic Italian food here. The waiter suggested the lasagna which I will order next time. I really wanted to try the steak....they say they age them 28 days....yum The decor of the restaurant is very elegant but not too stuffy. The ceilings are like 20 feet high and the walls and windows are all decorated with an authentic Italian feel.....which makes the whole dining experience enjoyable. The service was pretty good but I am really picky about that. I tipped well since the waiter was knowledgeable and very helpful. I'm going to head back here Sunday for brunch. read more

This review is based on more than one occasion of visiting Venutis since I don't really think it's always fair to write a review based on one experience. But our last outing there on Sunday topped it off for me to want to write a review and finalize this as the last time we will be bringing business there. The event on Sunday was my birthday and the meeting of our family with our first born son. I want to also preface this review with the fact we have had our family do various brunches at Venutis because of special events and the beautiful decor of the restaurant (the main reason I didn't give them only 1 star... the interior decor helps them out. Unfortunately it doesn't cover up poor customer service or rudeness). Before I spit fire I also want to say there was one amazing and helpful woman who was the hostess, so this is not targeted at her. But on we go... if you're not a family/friend of the owners/whoever runs the show at the front, or if you're not Italian... you'll probably get the impression that they want your money quickly and for you to leave quickly to turn it over to the next paying customer. I mean who cares if your customers are staying longer because they're having a good time enjoying each other's company in a pretty venue right? As long as they get the f*** out of there so you can get more hot little cash in your hand. I mean customer satisfaction is over rated in America right? So what does one do to get their customers out the door and on to the next? Well for starters being rude to the guests of your party by telling them to move out of the way in not so polite of a manner, at the very BEGINNING of your event. Then the venue decides when is an appropriate time to bring out the cake for your family members while the rest of the group and especially person of honor are not ready yet (despite the venue clearly stating to "let them know when you're ready". And this is especially rude when your guest of honor is attending to her baby and has to be rushed back to the room because the venue decided it was time for cake). Then you can top it off by taking away plates and silverware out from under everyones nose so you get the hint it's time to go. All in all, I want to say it was a special day and that Venutis "made it spectacular". But what made my day spectacular is inviting our Family and friends back to our house afterwards because we felt so rushed out of there, and to truly enjoy each other's company. read more

We used to come here years ago with my Mom and Dad because it was a good half-way point between our two homes. Last month we went with another couple for the very same reason. We hadn't been there in years and what was interesting, and a tad creepy, was that at 7:00 on a Friday night there were only two other parties eating in the fairly large dining room which made it almost too quite. The service was excellent, as it should be with only three parties in the room, and the food was pretty good but nothing stood out. We had baked clams, grilled calamari, shrimp dejonge, minestrone, salads, linguini with mussels, rigatoni al forno, veal medaglione and chicken vesuvio. Quite the variety for sure but all four us had the same reaction - it was good but good enough to come back - not so sure. read more

October 2018 - Dinner Their dinner hours changed and they close at 8pm on Sundays and we arrived at 7:40pm and were told we had a few minutes to get our order in. It was a Special occasion; however, and sadly, their "fancy dining room" had music blaring from the other event, a Blackhawks hockey game was on the screen in the main dining room instead of the beautiful, enjoyable videos of locations in Italy. This is not a "sports bar". The Minestrone Soup was very weak and loaded with celery and no beans or peas; the Veal Marsala was done in too much sauce and the meat was grainy; they had no special potato of the day except "boiled potatoes". The best part of the meal was the Focccacia bread sp? and the Cannoli we took as dessert to go. This is the 1st time this restaurant has disappointed us. Perhaps changes in the menus were made or the chef was in a hurry to get out. In any case, we know that these owners worked hard to achieve their success over the many years, and we did not complain. However, based on the $$ we paid for a very "special occasion" and the overall experience that evening, we will never return. read more
