Jade did an awesome job setting me up with some stylish, kind-of-retro glasses. I came in with my wife and just asked for suggestions since we didn't know where to start. We went through several pairs fairly quickly with Jade and were pretty quickly! People at work definitely noticed and liked my new glasses, a nice plus. I've been to lot of Lenscrafters and your typical private optometry places in the past and was never impressed by the selection and advice on frames. I've been to Veo Optics three times and at three different locations: the Castro, Union Square and the Financial District. Each time, I am blown away by the service, the selection and just how cool each person I interact with is and it makes me come back every time I need glasses. My review is long overdue, I came in a while back on a whim walking through union square, I saw this incredible looking store and decided to go in and take a look, as I walked in I was immediately greeted by Jesse and was told to play around and have some fun in the store. After browsing around for some time Jesse came to me with a few sunglasses options and told me why they suit my face, they were all awesome the only flaw with his selection was that I couldn't decide which was better! I did mention that I wasn't in the market at the moment but I enjoyed the experience to which he then adjusted and fixed my sunglasses without charge!! I initially just wanted my existing frames adjusted and was not interested in purchasing another pair of glasses. When it comes to eyeglasses, you will either come across places that have either a great selection of frames or great customer service. It's almost impossible to find both. I have been to over 50 shops in SF, NYC and Europe and tried on 1,000+ pairs of frames over the past 3 years to know that shopping for eyeglasses is exhausting, frustrating and time-consuming. After all, eyeglasses are something you will wear everyday and you should not settle for anything that you don't absolutely love. I have an above average size head, I love subtle color highlights, hate flashly hardwear / logos, and am very particular about the bridge / bars of frames. Finding eyeglasses is a tedious process but I am finally happy to find a place like this. The staff here is not only great to work with, but they understand your style and what frames work best for you. It's important to know someone will have your best interest at hand vs selling you the first frame you try on. Linda, Kayla etc. are great at what they do. I've been wearing glasses for most of my life, from many different places, so it's a real bummer that I can't wear the most expensive glasses (from Veo) I've ever bought. When I first bought them, I was a sleep deprived new mom and so the window of time lapsed where I could have had them replace the lenses to be more comfortable to wear, so I paid $200 to have them redone, after going again to an optometrist to make sure my prescription was correct. But still no luck; I got headaches, eye strain and dizziness and it didn't go away after some time like the other glasses I get from [x] eyewear. Plus, I found out that they have their own lab in house, so the idea that they could see that the glasses were obviously unworn but still charge more to make them wearable - and they still aren't wearable - seems unfair. I think I spent almost $900 all said and done out of pocket on glasses I have never been able to wear. I don't have faith that if I brought them back again that they would be able to figure out what the problem is, and I don't know why all the dozens of other glasses have been fine. I wish my experience had been better here but for now I will stick with the other store. read more

I recently found out after a vision test that I need to wear prescriptive eyewear. In an effort to address the situation immediately after my eye exam, I hit the streets to hunt for my first pair of frames; I stumbled into this store on my search. First, the irrelevant -- the space is gorgeous (lots of industrial-style furniture from Restoration Hardware mixed with some vintage finds, and dark muted colors highlighted with metal accents). The frames are all displayed in a scrumptious backlit way that makes it all so sexy. There are two adorable love birds at the door that I wanted to cuddle with. The staff are all professional, well-dressed and quite attractive (!). Now, to the relevant -- for a newbie to the world of frame shopping, I thought they had an excellent inventory. I'm not a brand snob... most of the brands they sell had no name recognition with me. So, I shopped exclusively based on design and what worked with my face. I communicated with 3 staff throughout the experience and they were all courteous and helpful. The distinguished gentleman who walked me through the experience was Tim, and he was a pleasure. He helped me to pick out frames that worked with my face, took me through the experience of wearing prescription eyewear for the first time, while still allowing me time to myself to sort out exactly which pair I wanted. He gave me some excellent feedback on fit and styles that worked with my face from his years of experience. I was informed it would take 3 weeks to prepare my lenses and frames, and I actually received them about 1/2 a week earlier than expected. I can proudly say I finally own a pair of glasses I truly love! I've been wearing glasses/contacts for almost 20 years now and I've never really loved any pair I've owned... but for once am thrilled about my glasses! Veo Optics offers a wide variety of glasses that are way more unique and not your typical frames. They have great customer service and they are very knowledgeable. Rana was a sweetheart and helped me pick out a frame. I've been on a hunt for a pair of glasses for a good six months now and every time I walked into a store, no one helped me to pick out something. I also really appreciate that she remembered me and my name after one visit! The only downside of this place is that Veo Optics is NOT part of the VSP network :( So be prepared to fork up $$$. I am willing to overlook this because I actually found a pair of glasses I love, Veo Optics is family owned (yay for supporting local businesses), and they have really, really good service. Just had the best time with Jaime today trying on frames. It felt very safe too - good air flow with hand sanitizer and they limit the number of guests allowed inside. They sanitize the frames after people try them on too. I have had glasses in some form for 47 years and never invested the time to pick out cute frames. I was so thrilled today by the selection and asked for and appreciated honest feedback from Jaime. I ended up buying three new frames - 1 for my hard core rx and two sets of reading glasses to wear over contacts. Can't wait until they are ready. Veo is way across town from my home, but the two opticians near me were unresponsive even though I bought glasses from them before. I suspect it was too much trouble for them to bother with my small item: nose pads for my Lindbergs. When I phoned Veo I was delighted by the welcome answer, "Just come in and we will help you." When I arrived Jesse greeted me and, indeed, helped me instantly with replacement nose pads for two frames. I was surprised because one pair is well over 30 years old. I got three headaches in under a week, and realized my glasses kept slipping down, and likely needed to be adjusted. I recently moved back to SF, and was not able to go to my optometrist to get my glasses adjusted. Veo Optics has amazing reviews online, so I thought I'd go get my glasses fixed. Rana was the Optican that assisted me. While she heated my glasses for adjusting, we chatted briefly, and I could tell she knew her stuff about glasses and lenses. It was clear she knew exactly what she was doing, and now my glasses fit great! Hopefully that will be the fix for my headaches and I won't need a new computer monitor after all! I am clumsy at times (a lot of the time, tbh) and in one such instance I sat on my glasses after explicitly reminding myself that putting them on the bed was a great way to accidentally break them. Thoughts become reality - I sat on my glasses ‍ I saw Veo when I was exploring the neighborhood (I'm visiting from Atlanta) and walked in with only a vague hope that they not only could but would fix my glasses. Sure enough, I received the warmest welcome, was assured by James that I am not the only clumsy glasses wearer, and was told to come back in an hour. He fixed my glasses and was so incredibly kind about it. 10/10 would break my glasses and go here again - kidding, obviously. But I do highly recommend! read more

This place blows. First off, their styles are so behind on the trends and totally LY. It took me weeks to find just 1 pair that wasn't lame. 2ndly, the REFUSE to show you your own measurements for some reason. I asked nicely just to see what they had written down and the girl got all weird and refused to show me, like it was some top secret information. It was so uncomfortable... but more uncomfortable was that the glasses never seemed to fit correctly and each time I went in to get them adjusted the stanks were rude and snippy. I haven't written a review in literally 9 months, but I'm coming out of hibernation to write this one. That's how much I like this place. I've been on the hunt for new glasses for a little while now, and one day I bumbled in here on my way down Market St. After trying on a couple of pairs I found THE ONES. They made me feel like I looked fabulous, and I knew I had to have them. There was just one problem: I didn't have a current prescription. James kindly wrote down the name and model number of my choice and I left, determined to get an eye exam. A week later, prescription in hand, I came back to a chorus of "Welcome back!" from everyone there. I hadn't been expecting them to remember me; after all, they must see dozens of people walk through the door every day and I was only there for a few minutes. But remember me they did, and James even picked out another pair of glasses that I liked almost as much as the Hackett ones I initially fell for. Five days later, after spending all of my Christmas money (yeah, relatives still give me money for Christmas--I'm a grad student, give me a break), I got my hands on my new lenses. I can't believe how quickly they whipped out my glasses, and I absolutely love them. I'm actually wearing them in my new profile photo, that's how much I like them. Businesses, take note: If you're really nice and friendly and helpful to your customers, they will like you and write good reviews. Seems obvious, but apparently it's not. Everyone here could not have been nicer and more charming, and I really hope that this locally-owned place sticks around. The Mr & I had the good fortune of finding the Marina Veo a couple years ago, when they totally set him up him w/ an awesome pair of glasses. Fast forward to a new prescription, we knew it was the perfect time to update his look This location was super-convenient to get to. The shop is large & there were a TON of people in there - but they were all being served. It was awesome to see such a large number of happy customers, browsing, trying on frames, sunglasses, getting measured for their new specs.....none of this sign in or take a number.....which equated to no irritated customers or people mowing you down to get a question answered Not only did the Mr find a couple frames he liked, one of the nice girls helping us, found some sunglasses ( that are currently FREE when you purchase a pair of glasses! ) that we never would have selected on our own. I love how they can look at someone's face & target great shapes & color schemes that suit that particular person! And when it came to welcoming the Mr to the wonderful world of progressive lenses, Veo offered to "train" the Mr on how to best acclimate himself to the new prescription & work w/ our insurance & we felt very well cared for. Took about a week to get everything back & he couldn't be happier. This makes the 3rd Veo we've visited in SF & have to say, they're all top notch! read more

DO NOT BE TRICKED BY THE REVIEWS BELOW, BUYERS BEWARE: 1) Terrible customer service. My girlfriend and I went into look for sunglasses for her mom. We received 0 customer service, not even a "Hi". That's fine if that's how the store normally operates but strangely 2 "older" parties came in after us and were received very warmly. I think it's because my girlfriend and I are in our early twenties but that's no way to treat your customers... 2) Frames are feel and look like cheap knockoffs from China. I have been to brand name stores and looked at frames before. I'm not sure if they have the older models that no one wants or they are just knockoffs. But if you ever get a chance to go in, take a close look at the paint for the logo and feel the weight in your hand before you buy anything. 3) I see that there are a bunch of review below with 5 stars from people with no review history or friends, WTF is that? This is one review that is long overdue and one that is not as positive compared to others. I went to see Veo Optics back in Oct 09 to find a good pair of sunglasses for my Rx. Jade and James were very helpful and quite perceptive when it came to one's taste and needs. They showed me a couple of pricey pair of sunglasses, but they were really quite fantastic. The initial pair that I chose did not work out due to issues around the Rx. So I got recommendations for another pair which was more expensive but was given a good deal around the price. The problem was that the left lens kept on popping out. So I had to return it several times to have it readjusted but the problem persisted. At this point I was irritated and frustrated with the entire experience of going back and forth, not to mention, spending good cash on a pair that was not working right that I conveyed that we needed to come to some closure with this problem. Veo Optics decided to take my sunglasses back and we did all that refund thing. I liked their wide array of selection, friendly atmosphere and enthusiasm in working with such a challenging situation but I was hoping for a better outcome. I can't believe I became old. When my eye doctor told me a year ago that I had the A-G-E and I needed glasses, my jaw dropped to the floor and I told him to shut up. Two things I have never looked good in are hats and glasses, so the dread of having to wear glasses just irked me. Well I got my glasses over a year ago (from another store) and they were okay, best I could find. Enter my latest eye exam and change in prescription. I'll be honest and say that the reason I went to Veo was because the poster in the window was so hot and the laws of shopping state that if you buy items worn by people in those pictures, you ALSO become hot. I walked in the store with the intention of finding those hot glasses and just seeing if they look good on me. Upon entering I was greeted by some of the coolest staff I've seen in a long time. Hip, but not annoying hip. You know the kind I'm talking about. Rhea was the best. Best I tell you! I explain my "poster in the window" need, which is now gone (sad face) and she immediately knows the pair of glasses I'm talking about. Not bad! But as a good service person should do, she recommends another pair and she nailed it. Perfect! I'm so happy and kinda wish I could wear them all the time and not just for reading. I had been looking for some Gucci frames. I knew what look I was searching for but couldn't seem to find the right ones anywhere. So I just happened to walk by Veo one day and decided to stop in an take a look. I was immediately impressed with their selection. They have a TON of great styles. But what happened next was nothing short of amazing. I'm browsing around and James (the owner) comes up and takes a long hard look at my face. Then he walks over to the Gucci section and picks out this pair... his first pick... that look exactly like the frames I had imagined up and been fantasizing about for the past couple of weeks. Craziness!!! He puts them on my face and I love them. They look great on me, proportioned so that my eyes are perfectly placed in the middle of each lens. I didn't think it could get any better than that but it did. James starts telling me he can custom shape them even more so that they align with the arch of my brow. He spends about 30 minutes doing this (back and forth between my face and the machine, just to get it perfect) and the result is a beautifully custom fitted/shaped pair of Gucci frames. There are no frames in this world that could possibly look better on me. James is a true professional and a master of his trade. And it's worth mentioning that he's quite easy on the eyes and that South African accent is quite pleasant to listen to. The customer service here is impeccable. They make you feel like a friend more than a customer. What a great find! I was encouraged to stop back in after a couple weeks of wearing the frames just to fine-tune the fitting. As much as I'd love to stop in and see these guys again, it was completely unnecessary. The first fitting was perfect. No pressure points, nothing at all bothers me about these frames. read more

I recommended Veo due for their expertise in fitting the right frames for your face and overall quality of all their work. James and Jane are amazeballs. I remembered that James had experience in outfitting famous people and is still a style consultant to many (this is for the UsWeekly crowd... though I don't remember the names of the famous people, I'm sure there is some sort of NDA situation with this). They both really know how to fit the right frames to the right person. For me, James was able to explain why a lighter coloration in the back of certain frames would draw more attention to my eyes and lighten the complexion, whereas the blue-backed frames gave people the illusion of bags under their eyes (no-no). They also have their own state-of-the-art lens machine as so they can guarantee the best lenses for your frames. This is not some cheap "$50 lens" job that most places offer by sending off to some jank lab. Lastly, their selection is great. I think they somehow have special ties to some of these designers because they carry some very valuable and rare brands. Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, and Robert Marc, for example, are selective on how many boutiques can carry their frames. Oh and they are models (you should ask them :P). read more

I live near the Church location, but came to this store in passing with a friend. My usual girl, Jade, who is the most helpful person in finding the right frames wasn't there. The awesome customer service is manifested further with Dylan, who took care of my friend and showed her the same service that I recieved as a prospective customer. Despite the fact that he was the only one on the floor, he was able to juggle the rush of customers coming through and still managed to give us his undivided attention. Dylan's attention to detail and personal opinion really helps filter through the "just okay" frames and gives you the confidence to rock a new look that really emphasizes your best features. After a couple years of Costco reading glasses I bit the bullet and got a prescription for bifocals. Aging sucks, and I didn't trust my own instincts to pick out a pair of flattering glasses by myself. I first visited See on Union Street on a friend's recommendation. Nice enough salesperson, but none of the frames were great. Same experience at another glasses place on Market near Peet's. OK service, ok frames. But when I walked into Veo, James swooped in and immediately picked out several frames that were all fantastic, all the while cooing and ahhing over me, which I needed in my fragile I-don't-want-to-be-an-old-lady-yet state of mind. I didn't want a salesperson to say "take your time and look around", I needed a take charge I know what will look best kind of guy, which is what I got. Now I can't wait for my glasses to be ready! Even though they don't take VSP, the final price was pretty much exactly the same as the place that did take it. Buying glasses here was actually a fun experience. It's nice to go to a place where the folks are really excited about what they are doing, and a double bonus when they are good at it, too! read more

I wish I could give them more than five stars! After getting my glasses made, there was something a little "off" about the prescription -- I couldn't read up-close as easily. I brought them back and everyone at Veo went above and beyond to solve the problem: rigorous testing of the lenses, explanations of my options, advice for talking with my eye doctor. I went and got my eyes re-examined, and the doctor made a slight adjustment; Veo made new lenses (at no cost to me!) and now all is well. The thing that I love about everyone at this place is that they treat me like I'm spending thousands of dollars. The customer service really is amazing. read more

Wow. That is what I can say about this. Jade and James were wonderful. I am deaf and when I went there, I was surprised that Jade knew sign language. (Hint for other deaf customers). They had an amazing array of frames. James was amazing - he knew what frames would be right for me. They were so friendly, but they were very professional and great.
