I've been practicing hot yoga/Bikram yoga for going on 7 years. I go to a specific studio in Manhattan that has been around since 1999. I decided I wantedto try a new studio. This place is located on the 3rd floor right off of Canal St. My teacher was named Justin. He was okay not the friendliest. He didn't make me want to sign up for a membership. They had music playing in the class. It was around 95 degrees in the class. The place was dimly lit. The bathrooms were very nice though. The two stars go to the bathroom. And there was a dog roaming around which I enjoyed. I most likely won't be back. There are too many hit-it-out-of-the-park yoga studios in NYC. read more

Went to Sweat Yoga for the first time last Friday for the "Friday Night Loft Party" class and fell in love! I typically swear by Y7 but always willing to try new studios, especially ones where it is not too hard to get a spot! While I did not love the playlist (was Cinco de Mayo themed which was fine but not amazing to flow to) everything else was amazing - from the receptionist and the space/amenities to the practice itself. Having never taken a class heated over 90 degrees I was afraid at first but only started really feeling the heat towards the third and last flow (when I started drowning in sweat...in the best way!) I loved the sequencing, the lighting (dimly lit but not pitch black), and the room itself, which I imagine could get crowded on a busy day but on this night everyone had ample room. There were a wide range of participants in terms of skill level, age, etc. which I thought was a nice change from other studios. Class was the perfect length of time and at the end you are given an ice cold towel right before savasana which was a wonderful touch. Walked out of there feeling better than Kanye. I happened to stop by on the first Friday of the month where they have some refreshments post-class. After working hard and having a long shower it was nice to have a drink with some other members, the owners (who are ADORABLE by the way), and their equally cute dog that hangs out in the check-in area. The prices here are comparable to other studios, so I will definitely be back this month and next before it gets too hot, and 100% in September and onward for their new member special and class packages. I took my first class a Sweat last night and I really like this studio. Everyone there was super friendly and seemed genuine. The bathrooms/showers/front desk are very well kept, and the studio itself is massive. I took Kirra's class and absolutely loved it. She taught a set of sequences that built off the previous sequence which made it quite easy to follow. The flow was challenging, but Kirra was very helpful and attentive and offered easier variations of movements for those that needed it. Kirra thoroughly explained how to execute each pose safely, and it felt like I was guided through the whole practice. I've been to several studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan and the teachers at Sweat seem very knowledgeable about the practice, enthusiastic, and pay close attention to each student. 5 stars! read more

Love this studio! Staff is extremely welcoming and the space is large and gorgeous. Locker room complete with 3 showers, multiple hair dryers and counter space. Great if you need to get ready for your day after. Heads up that rentals are pretty pricey, so bring your own mat and towel if you can. read more

Awesome studio in every way!! I was fortunate enough to have met one of the owner, Britton, years ago while practicing together and was very happy when she opened Sweat. To start with, the space is gorgeous - huge loft-like room with sparkling clean wooden floors and large windows, nice reception area, and beautiful dressing rooms with great showers, bathrooms, and amenities - from feminine products to hair dryer to organic soaps and deodorant to hair ties - wonderful attention to detail. The heat is perfect and the instructors are knowledgeable and diverse. Of course the very best part - there is a yoga-dog in the studio, named Harley. Super friendly and overly cute, he always greets you upon arrival. I highly recommend Sweat to any and all yogis!. read more

I think this is the third yoga studio I've been to in this space. I was a little skeptical that it was going be much different but had read good things about Sweat Yoga in L.A.. It's much better than anything that was here before. They've done a great job refreshing and building a really nice practice here. The teachers have been great so far with good music and fun, athletic yoga that still works when you're sweaty and slippery. The locker room facilities are also a major upgrade over the previous studio. Two spacious showers in the mens room and great amenities. read more

First visited this studio back in July. I ended up trying the new student special-- unlimited classes for two weeks for $49. A single drop-in class is $28, so the special is a good move if you think you might want to go back. Twenty-eight bucks for one class is quite expensive to me BUT, I do think it was worth it for Sweat. The class itself was pretty good. I had Damien Alexander for both of the classes I took there. The flow was quite different from what I'm used to. We were lead through Sun A and Sun B-- but they weren't the traditional Ashtanga/Vinyasa Sun Salutations. I've been practicing for seven years and previously taught for about 3 years, so when someone says "Sun A" I'm ready to jump right in without thinking about it. This might be a nitpicky, weirdo yoga teacher quirk, but Sweat's website indicates it is a Vinyasa practice, and words mean things. I wish the flows (which were great) weren't referred to as Sun Salutations A & B when they technically aren't. That being said-- I found the sequencing to be interesting and challenging. Damien's cues were also very specific and helpful. I was never confused about what I was supposed to be doing. Another cool thing-- he would take us step-by-step through the sequence on both sides and then pretty much left us to our devices with the advice that we move in a way that honored our bodies as we continued. For some people that meant slowing the flow WAY down, for others it was incorporating handstands into the sequence. I like this idea because our bodies are different-- I'm not even capable of repeating the same movements every day. So it's nice to be given a moment in a public class to be introspective and decide: What can I do to make this practice suit me and my body in this moment? This type of teaching works well for people who have been practicing for a while, but Damien still walked around and coached people through the sequence if they needed it. There was a torturous core segment near the end, and we were told we could take savasana if we needed it (I always need savasana!). Then someone came around and placed cold towels over our eyes. How fancy! I left class feeling super light, and my abs and quads were really sore the next day. Let's see...what else? The studio is clean, very pretty and filled with light. Women's locker room got crowded but wasn't too tough to navigate. There are adequate showers and toilets so that everyone moves pretty quickly. Oh-- the room gets pretty hot, which is to be expected as it's a hot yoga studio! I started my practice with hot yoga so the heat doesn't bother me. I don't think it ever got above 100 degrees. Just make sure you are well-hydrated beforehand and don't feel shy about pausing to take a sip of water during class. Damien's playlist was wonderful-- I discovered a new Wizkid song through him. Front desk staff was friendly and answered my many questions about the schedule without seeming annoyed. All in all, when I'm craving a nice heated Vinyasa yoga session, Sweat is definitely at the top of my list. read more

I've been going to Sweat Yoga for two months now and I absolutely love it. When I moved here I was looking for a hot, vinyasa-style yoga studio that offered a clean space, friendly staff, essential amenities, and a variety of classes and times. I'm quite picky, so I'm very glad I found all of that (and more) in Sweat Yoga! As soon as you step into the studio, it feels cozy and welcoming -- like a community more than just another studio. You check in at the front desk and can rent towels and mats if needed. The women's locker room is spacious with clean showers, plenty of lockers, and a variety of toiletries to freshen up. I take the Sweat-Flow class the most and always leave feeling very "zen" and restored. The instructors are very knowledgeable and attentive as well. The best part is the cool lavender scented towel they hand out at the end of every class. Overall, I highly recommend this studio! Tips: - If you want to test it out, they have a $49 intro special for 14 days of unlimited classes. - The 6pm / 7pm classes on weekdays can get crowded (especially in the locker room) so plan accordingly - I use the MindBody App to sign up for classes read more

I've done a lot of hot yoga and sweat is one of the best. An actual workout with a bathroom that looks like a spa (very rare in NYC). The room is really hot so if you aren't used to hot flow go towards the middle of the room where it's cooler and let the teacher know. Teachers are all cool, knowledgeable, and have excellent taste in music, you'll want to steal their playlists. Probably the best part is the classes are extremely consistent. I've never had one that felt like a waste of money. Love sweat, so happy they came over from LA! read more

The studio has a great vibe. I look forward to coming here after a long day in the office or getting my saturday started off right. They've done a good job in building a community and making everyone feel welcomed. The instructors are very encouraging whether you're a first timer or a rock star, this space is for everyone! I cannot say enough good things about this studio and yoga class. With so many stuffy studios in the city (both attitude and number of people in classes) Sweat provides an oasis, with a beautiful and huge studio and incredibly friendly staff. The classes are the perfect mix of guided flow and freestyle, and the end result is amazing sweaty goodness that leaves you feeling strong, calm, and accomplished. I took my first ever hot yoga class here a couple of weeks ago. They set the room to 102 degrees (read: very hot!!) and it definitely took a lot of getting used to. If you're like me, you'll start sweating like a dog about 5 minutes into class. The format of each class is similar - the instructor will walk you through three flow sequences, but most of class time is for students to flow at their own pace while following the sequence. For a beginner like me, this was extremely challenging as I had very little familiarity with even the most basic yoga poses so trying to remember a whole sequence of them was hard. The instructor I had my first class, Kirra, was helpful in guiding me through the sequence knowing that it was my first time, but the other instructors I've had have not been as helpful. At this point I'm three classes in but still get very lost. They have a Sweat Roots class, which is designed for beginners but unfortunately, it is only offered twice a week during work hours. SWEAT YOGA, PLEASE OFFER A SWEAT ROOTS CLASS OVER THE WEEKEND SO THAT PEOPLE WHO WORK HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE IT. The studio itself is clean and beautiful. The women's locker room has an ample amount of lockers (but inexplicably only about a third of them have keys...) and 4 shower stalls. There are some basic toiletries to help you freshen up after class which I appreciate since I always look like a mess after class. You can rent a grippy towel and mat for $5 if you don't bring your own. read more

Great studio! I have been to Kirra's class multiple times, she is very attentive and eager to help everyone. It gets frustrating when instructors seem like they are not paying any attention. I just want to make sure I have the technique right! She's open and comfortable and that helps to make me feel comfortable in the room. Beautiful studio, clean facilities, lockers, showers, great staff. My only thing is that they charge for face towels and showers. I understand renting mats and mat towels, but I haven't been charged for a face towel before. Don't get me wrong, it's only $1.50, but it's just a thing for me. I'm not a shower at the gym person, but I don't think that is something one normally pays for, I think it's only a few dollars, maybe I'm just cheap. i really love sweat yoga- especially with EMMIE! She is one of the best instructors. my only complaint and the reason for 4 stars is they charge extra FOR EVERYTHING. I understand mat and grip towel rentals, but I have never been to a yoga studio in the city (and I have been to many including Y7 and Lyons Den) where they charge extra for a shower towel or hand "sweat" towel. I ended up paying nearly $10 extra for these things! Insane! otherwise a great place read more

I can't gush enough about how much I love this place - the studio itself is gorgeous, the locker room is fabulous (amazing quality showers and products), and most importantly, the quality of instructors and actual yoga room are just heaven. This is an absolutely wonderful studio both in terms of the yoga offerings and the physical space itself. The folks at the front desk have been very welcoming and friendly each time I have been there and the space is gorgeous. Clean locker rooms with great products in the shower and out (e.g. natural spray deodorant, hair dryers, phone chargers, etc). I have not had a bad class, the teachers just have slightly different styles which for me, is great because sometimes I am in the mood for one thing and sometimes another. Don't get me wrong, the flow has a consistent path but there's a lot of creativity within. So far my favorites are Amanda Kerpius, Kirra Michel and Stephanie Landouer. I am very happy with this studio and just bought a monthly unlimited (which comes with hand towels,mat towels and shower towels, if you want a less expensive option you can choose to not get the towels, something for everyone!). read more

Life changing yoga studio! I have lived in NY for 7 years and tried to get into yoga so many times at different studios but would go for a few sessions and then stop. I have been an equinox member since moving here and into so many classes but just thought maybe Yoga wasn't for me. And then I found Sweat yoga, it's fun, THE BEST workout and I was able to progress so quickly. The first couple of times I felt I couldn't keep up but by the third or fourth time I totally got it and love the structure of the three flows. Learned so much about breathing and mindfulness that helps me at work too. Emmie and Britt are the best if you can get into their class, do it! And the staff and showers are so nice. read more

This yoga studio doesn't just get me, it gets all of us. This honestly is a place no matter what style or strength or ability of yoga you have you don't ever feel less than and you're always challenged. Personally, I'm not a huge yogi. I know some of the more basic terms and moves but get all sanskrit on me and you've lost me...which is why a lot of yoga studios have. This studio doesn't make you feel inferior for not knowing all the proper terminology and the flows (or as I like to call them fun choreography) and they are so fun to do because while I know it is yoga I feel like I'm doing a beautiful dance on a mat and since I'm a former dancer it's really my jam. Like pop music? Their is a teach for that! Like classic rock? Their is a teacher for that! Like a good mix of pop, funk, old school....yep you guessed it I found a teacher for that too! I'm definitely glad I threw this studio into my mix of Barrys, SLT and BBS! Well worth it. read more

This is an incredible studio!! I have been to almost every studio in downtown Manhattan (literally), and this one stands out for a couple reasons. The community is SO warm and supportive; the physical studio is drop-dead gorgeous - and LARGE; the showers, lockers, hair driers, etc, etc, etc, all make it really easy to work into your routine. The classes are challenging but there is a range of experience among students and everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. I think this studio is really special also for its philanthropy - there are always events benefiting different social justice organizations, and you can tell the owners really put their heart and soul into those events and into the community they foster at the studio. Hands down the best yoga studio in NYC. I've been going to Sweat Yoga a few times a month since the early spring and have an amazing experience each time I go. I have tried many yoga studies in Manhattan, hot yoga and traditional, and none are staffed with such friendly, kind and welcoming people. Immediately when you walk in the door, they make you feel welcome and are excited you are there. Their teachers are all excellent, highly trained professionals who always change up their routines, which are difficult but not impossible to follow for beginners.
