My dad and brother loved this place on a trip in 2012 so I came back this year. Got food poisoning from the mahi mahi tacos and ruined the last day of my vacation. The tacos themselves weren't bad but I imagine the slaw wasn't washed or handled well or the fish. Didn't eat anything else that day and was bed and bathroom bound the whole rest of the next day. Pretty good food. All organic and/or healthy ingredients. Full bar. I'm partial to the taco salad and theirs was fantastic. The flour tortilla bowl was perfectly crispy and light. I got the nachos. Chicken, which is shredded, so basically flavorless. The guacamole was blended and saucy. No jalapeños and no salsa, really missing the spicy flavor. It came together like a bland mix of refried beans, cheese, chips with good sour cream and meh guac. My advice to Verde. Pollo asado would be what I'm used to for nachos. Shredded chicken can be left to the enchiladas. Lose the refried beans, go with black beans. The guacamole should be made with a fork, fresh per order, don't over smash it, never blend it. Throw some fresh diced tomato and onion on top, or pico de Gallo. Spicy salsa and jalapeños. read more

From the vibe to the food, everything is amazing and I have to say hands down some of the best tacos I've ever had and I've had some amazing tacos in my life. When you think you are done make sure to leave some room for the churro fries! They are so incredibly fresh that they melt in your mouth. It's conveniently close to all shopping and it's always busy in early evenings. we try to get here early to beat the crowd! Love that salsa on it, goes well with sauce! First time here. Our server was amazing, waters were always refilled on time and we were always being properly checked on. It was close to closing time but none of the staff made us feel in anyway rushed and was very considerate. Food wise, every single dish served to us had a perfect presentation. My mom, dad, sister and I went last night and were happy with the service and the meal. The salsa and guacamole that started the meal were excellent, and it didn't take long for us to devour it all, for another order of chips For drinks, three of us ordered house margaritas, and my mom a sangria. I decided I like the idea of their jalapeno margarita, so I changed mine to that. It had some kick and was really tasty! My mom ordered the veggie stacked enchilada, dad the chicken burrito, and sister the seasonal holiday steak tacos (which were highly recommended by the server). I ordered the fish tostada, made with seared rare ahi. My sister raved about her tacos, and said it was excellent. My dad loved his burrito, as well. My fish tostada was good, when I could find the tostada and ahi under the mounds of lettuce on the plate. The lettuce mound was a little over-the-top, frankly, of what was otherwise pretty tasty. (Although, given the expense, it might have been nice to have a little more ahi and a little less lettuce.) My mom was not super happy with her enchilada. She said they were good enough, but they were so drenched in the green chili sauce--which she described more as a gravy or soup than a sauce--that kind of overwhelmed the flavor of the other ingredients, and made the tortillas pretty soggy well before she was done eating. For dessert, my mom and sister ordered the Peppermint Mocha Tres Leches (holiday special), which they raved about and completely devoured. Dad and I got the sopaipillas, which were also good. Complaint here is that the sopaipillas took a *very* long time to come out (nearly 20 minutes), and we were all ready to go well before the dessert arrived (in fact, we almost forgot). All in all, decent fare. I'm giving 4 stars for the reasons related above (especially my mom's dissatisfaction with the meal). read more

This is definitely a great Mexican restaurant to check out in Lihue on the east coast of Kaua'i, located conveniently in their shopping plaza. I had their vegetarian taco salad and it was pretty good, and so was the customer service and the cleanliness of their seating area. As expected, things are pricey, but this is the case throughout the entire state of Hawaii. But next time I am in town, I'll be sure to try some of their other menu items! read more

So Kauai apparently has excellent Mexican restaurants, and Verde has got to be in the top 5. Located in one of the more modern commercial developments on Kauai, it feels like a place you'd find in a mainland shopping center, but the food is anything but run of the mill. The Mahimahi Furikake Tacos were the best fish tacos I've had, from the furikake tortillas to the cilantro-furikake mahimahi with their signature aioli and unagi sauce. It was busy (always a good sign) but the 3 wait staff rocked it, working like a real team. The margarita & paloma were really good. Loved the Mahi Mahi tacos. All fish dishes are market price. WTH happened to this place? Used to be my favorite spot. Now it is just a tourist trap and the food is completely in-ettible. Terrible. No taste. Watermelon margarita ($14 WHAT?!) was horrible. We came here twice during our stay in Kauai. Actually, this was the first place we came to eat after landing in Lihue and last place we ate before leaving! The food is really good and I love that they use some cleaner sourced ingredients like grass fed beef and have GF options as well. My husband had the shrimp burrito and tacos and loved both. I had the beef quesadilla and beef tostada, also delicious, though the tostada I felt was a bit too saucy. Churro fries were great. We said 2, he then said sit where you like ‍ Ok...next... ordered guac and chips, got guac with some chips but mostly crumbs ‍ Seemed as if the workers were not in a good mood... grouchy even... Ordered the carne pork tacos. Wow it was so salty and not very good, tried smothering it with sour cream... didn't help. Waited for our sopapillo (spelling) with honey.
