When I discovered my cat had a nasty injury to her paw after hours during the coronavirus pandemic, I kind of freaked out. So many places are closed or had limited hours but the staff at Vergi picked up the phone right away. They were SO well prepared, with numbered spaces for curbside, online paperwork you sign via email on your phone while you wait, and several staff members serving the curbside patients so no one was waiting long to speak to someone on the team. It was packed when we went but the staff was still so kind and friendly, we had Dr. Brannon as our vet and she was incredible. Super caring and informative, I never felt out of the loop on anything, they were extremely transparent about what things cost. I was really grateful when they initially thought they were going to have to use a stronger, more expensive sedative but when they didn't ultimately have to, they saved me the extra cost instead of charging me for it anyway. I mean I would never know so it just speaks to their integrity which I trust carries over into the care they give each animal. Thank you Dr. Brannon and the Vergi team for taking such good care of our kitty Kung-Fu Quiche - the family is happy to have her home and healthy again! read more

This place is a joke and a scam, and they are taking advantage of people who have no other options. My poor pup was attacked by another dog. It didn't look terrible, but I could tell he was hurting and wanted to get it checked out as a precaution. What I did not want to do was spend my life savings in the process, but mainly make sure he wasn't in pain through the night before I could get him to my normal vet the next morning. 45 minutes after they took him back, we hadn't heard anything, so I asked what his status was. Shortly after that, they acknowledged they hadn't seen him yet and then gave him a pain injection. Then, they started to discuss options, which included suturing, sedation, and a night's stay. This all seemed extreme for what I thought was a minor puncture wound - especially since they hadn't even examined him yet! I told them I just wanted to clip and clean the wound and get him pain meds to get through the night until I could get to the vet the next day. They were extremely pushy, and numerous times tried to get me to sedate and suture him and install drains for the wound (each time took at least 30 minutes and they brought out a new invoice, up to $800.. anything for them to make more $$$). Then, when I declined all of these options, the vet tech had the nerve to say "I realize you are trying to do the least possible for him". EXCUSE ME? How dare you accuse me of that? I finally told them to give me my dog so I could leave, and even that took at least 30 minutes. I managed to get out of there after 3 hours for $250 (clean and clip, pain injection, pain meds for the night, and bandaging the wound). Anyway, I took him to my trusted family vet the next day. They gave me 21 pain pills for the same price I got 3 for at this clinic and 6 syringes of liquid pain/inflammatory medication for the same price as 1 at this clinic. They also advised AGAINST installing drains and wanted to wait 3 days to see how the wound was healing. 3 days later, it now looks great and my dog is back to feeling and acting normal - thank goodness I didn't follow the advice of Vergi! PLEASE do yourself a favor and steer clear of this clinic unless it is your last resort! Try Gulf Coast or Westbury instead; I wish I had! And in case Dr. Michael Seely with Vergi feels the need to respond to this review (as I have seen on many others) - save yourself the trouble, sir. I think ALL the negative reviews speak for themselves. This place is a scam. read more

This place charged us $60 to tell us what we already knew, and the doctor was rude about it as well.

I've taken one of my beagles to Vergi twice and have always appreciated the quality of care and treatment she received. They do seem to place a great deal of emphasis on labs and testing, even for simple issues. My dog had conjunctivitis (pinkeye) and they ran a whole bunch of blood tests on what my regular vet said should have been a very simple and routine diagnosis. I'm sure the doctors at Vergi will have a difference of opinion on that, and it was an emergency visit at 9:00 at night, so you just have to roll with what that comes with. Ultimately I was expecting $500-$1,000 and the bill came in lower than expected and was reduced even further, despite the addition of meds. My only real issue is the change to curbside only. They will only talk to you over the phone, which makes it very easy for them to not communicate with you. The doctors seem very rushed to get you off the phone and rattle off all the information as fast as they can. There isn't a lot of real discussion about the pet's condition and potential courses of treatment - It's more of dropping your pet off so they can do what they're going to do and you have to authorize payment for whatever they might want to do before they do it. I also didn't like being kept in the dark about what the status of my dog was. I arrived at 8:50 PM and my dog wasn't discharged until after 3:30 the next morning. I'm honestly not sure how long it would have been for them to discharge her had I not called them to find out what was going on. It's a generally unpleasant experience that is vastly different than the overwhelmingly positive experience I had the first time I took my girl in for a back injury and I was inside with her the entire time. I recognize the difficulties faced by having to adapt to COVID, so they still get 4 stars based on quality of care because I'm confident the rest of my experience would have been better this time around had we not been in the middle of a pandemic. read more

Our black Labrador, Lokai, became uninterested in food, lame in his back legs and very lethargic. After 24 hours we rushed him to Vergi. Weekends are busy. It is an emergency care clinic so they treat on a most-critical patients first. If you do not understand that, you will be upset. Emergency care is expensive. For them to save the life of my dog, the cost added up over a 3 day period. It was worth every penny. They bring in specialists on-call if your pet needs them. He needed an ultra sound. The Chief of Staff is great. She is an internist and has seen it all with cats and dogs. There is a lot of waiting so prepare yourself. The sooner you bring the pet in, the better. They offer 24/7 care which is reassuring when your pet is in their hands. I have never written a review but I felt that I had to. If I can help one dog owner to not go through what we did, then this review will be worth it. We adopted a 5 1/2 week old Boston Terrier in October. We had our previous dog, for 18 years, with a wonderful veterinarian named Dr. Fuessel. After he passed away, his practice was purchased by a chain. We stayed with them because they had all of our dog's records and out of convenience. My new puppy checked out fine but had a little runny nose. The doctor told me to return if I felt that it was getting worse. I returned the following day just to be safe. Because Boston Terrier's are brachiocephalic, (flat faced) the doctor of the day, told me that they couldn't help me. He wasn't sure if my pup had a cold, a birth defect in the nasal canal or something more critical. Looking back, he thought our puppy had distemper as well but didn't say so. I immediately drove to the Vergi emergency animal clinic. Scared, tired and confused, my experience got worse. The wait time was fine, the staff was very friendly, and check in due to Covid was timely and professional. After waiting about an hour, the doctor called and told me that I had two choices. 1. They would keep my puppy and hook him up to an IV and keep him comfortable ($$$$$$) or 2. I could bring him home and return when he worsened. The female doctor was sugary sweet but sent me in to a tailspin. She Immediately delivered what Inwould call a "death sentence" without explaining to me what she thought was wrong with my puppy. Eventually, she said that she thought he had distemper. She hoped that she was wrong but because of Covid we wouldn't get the results for 5 to 7 business days. I have never had a young puppy and did not know what distemper was. My husband and I were devastated. We had to read about it on the Internet! She did prescribe amoxicillin and our puppy's runny nose cleared up. I called every other day and on day nine called again. The results were negative, as I had suspected. But the week leading up to getting the results was awful. The vet, nor anyone from the clinic, called to follow up or to ask how our pup was doing. That is shameful and completely unacceptable. Especially, since I probably would've spent upwards to $1000 a day leaving him there hooked up to an IV. We lived for nine days wondering if our new family member was going to live or die. I did speak to the chief, who was very kind, and expressed my disgust and disappointment. I hope that he reprimanded this doctor and that she has learned a lesson on bedside manner.That being said, I will never, ever recommend this clinic nor will I ever bring my dog back to them. I have found a wonderful vet here in the memorial area and will continue to use them. I gave two stars because the young woman at the front desk was very kind. read more

First things first, they are an emergency clinic. Emergency services are expensive. My 15 year old beagle was vomiting and defecating blood non stop. He was not opening his eyes and it was a dire situation. When we brought him in he had almost no blood pressure. Before they work on your pet they will ask you to sign something agreeing to put a $1,000 down payment. Yes, you want them to start working on your dog as soon as possible and this is a little jarring. They will not work on your pet without having your payment method and this authorization signed. I understand the need for this as emergency services are very expensive and people back out when it is time to pay. They have to cover themselves and not have a dispute with a pet owner and not get paid. My pet was in very bad shape and a lot had to be done. He spent 2 days there and it was my choice to move him to his regular vet. They were very helpful in transferring his information to the new vet and even provided some of the tools they had been using on him. The vets at Vergi offer you their opinions as to what needs to be done, but at the end of the day it is the pet owners choice. Even months after my pet was there, they reviewed and adjusted the bill and refunded me money without me asking. After I took him to his regular vet, they were amazed that Vergi was able to turn around his condition. They administered 2 epi shots, which is something my vet would not have been able to do. Normal vets simply do not have all the resources emergency clinics like Vergi have. The vet said he would not have been been able to do as much as Vergi did. Vegri does have vets working on your pet 24 hours a day as a normal vet simply cannot offer this type of service. Even when my dog was in bad shape and not improving, they kept him comfortable. I was able to see him whenever I asked, and could ask for updates directly from the vet regularly. Dr. Ron was extremely kind, patient and explained everything so well. Dr. Seely is more straight to the point, cold hard facts. I don't think my experience would have been the same without Dr. Ron. At the end of the day, there is no sure treatment for some emergencies and it is a highly emotional situation. They have to try what they think will help, you have to pay for it and if it works great! If it doesn't try again. read more

My family had a terrible experience today when seeking emergency treatment for our family pet at Vergi 24/7. Our pet was diagnosed with Lymphoma February 25th, 2020 and has been on medicine to prolong her time here on earth. Today our pet Bluebonnet started having breathing problems and refused to eat this morning or take her medicine. We rushed her to Vergi 24/7 for emergency attention. Upon arrival we experienced 2 employees acting as if we were coming in for an annual check up. After explaining to them what our pet was experiencing they responded with no reaction of urgency stating someone would be with us shortly to complete paperwork, and to remain in our vehicle due to covid-19. Since our pup was struggling to breath we did not have time to "wait" for paperwork to be completed. We left and went immediately to GCVS (Gulf Coast Veterinarian Specialists) calling while on the way. Upon arrival we were met by an emergency team member who immediately took our pet in for her vitals to be checked. We were then asked to remain in our vehicle and that someone would be with us shortly to collect information about Bluebonnet. Unfortunately, due to the progression of the Lymphoma it had spread to her lungs and her quality of life going forward would not be a positive one since she would need to remain on oxygen, a tough decision was made for Bluebonnet. I have NEVER written a bad review. Even when I myself, as a healthcare provider, was the victim of numerous medical errors during my labor, delivery and postpartum care - however, I feel compelled to share this one! Do not take your pet to Vergi! We came here in an emergent situation with our beloved 14 year old Pomeranian. Poor quality care and customer service. Vergi wanted us to sign a $1,000 commitment triage form after taking our dog Nemo to the back. I visibly had stool on me from our dog. I asked my husband for paper towels. The front desk staff heard this and saw him trying to get into the occupied bathroom. She did not offer any help or paper towels. We asked for one of Nemo's regular meds to be administered. They said they would and 1 hour later still had not. When I was finally allowed to visit Nemo in the back, I asked the vet tech if Nemo received this medication. She said no. I saw the vet in ear shot range turn her heard in the direction our conversation. Later she casually walks up and asks if the med was administered and theatrically acts appalled and asks the vet tech to give it. After we refused to sign the triage form, indicating we would like to speak with the veterinarian first Vergi simply stopped providing quality care or any customer service. Our emergent situation was no longer emergent to them because to Vergi only money talks. So instead it took over 3 hours after his accident for us to get any results or care. We wanted to speak to the vet to make her aware of his chronic health conditions. We know our dog and knew he would likely not make it. He has a history of seizures, heart failure, partially blind and deaf. He was hit by a car. His gums visibly ghost white, heart rate super slow, panting and could not use his hind legs. We did not want to prolong pain and suffering, but of course as loving pet parents still had hope. The vet told us she could not tell us anything on his condition from her physical exam. She instead indicated a variety of conditions she would need an X-ray to confirm. As a pediatric healthcare provider, it seemed excessive she could not rule out ANYTHING without this imaging. When I questioned her as such, she had a poor attitude with me. She didn't make a lot of eye contact, sighed often and seemed visibly annoyed with my questioning. Her attitude only changed after we finally signed. We felt guilted as a bad fur parent if we did not. In the end, our beloved dog still needed euthanasia, as we thought - he suffered unnecessarily. These people don't care! We were confirmed in our line of thought when we described the situation and presentation of Nemo to our regular vet. His response was that we should report the vet at Vergi to the veterinary board. Lastly, to rub salt into our wound and traumatic experience, Vergi 24/7 made an unacceptable error. Our sweet Nemo's remains will never make it home as a careless personnel there checked "mass cremation" instead of return to owner. We waited for two weeks, tending lovingly to these beautiful sunflowers gifted to us in memory of our sweet Nemo to bury his remains under. Now we will never have the opportunity. read more

I can't say enough good things about Vergi. Last night my foster dog began shaking and walking as if drunk. The first emergency vet I called was dismissive and discouraged me from coming in. Then I called Vergi. The woman who answered my call was extremely helpful. I mentioned that I am a foster for BARC and wasn't sure how the situation and payment needed to be handled. She spoke to her supervisor for me who even found a contact at Friends of BARC in hopes of being able to apply their discount. Because of them I was able to connect with the rescue group and begin discussing financial assistance. The woman who I had initially spoken to on the phone checked on me periodically during the 4 hours I was there (11pm-3am). In a stressful situation, all of their support helped calm me. My foster dog also received fantastic care. He is now home recovering and hopefully will not have to go back for additional tests. Thank you to everyone at Vergi who helped my foster dog last night! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Vergi to anyone who, god forbid, is in need of an emergency vet. read more

This is by far the worst vet clinic I have ever been to, I was told to pretty much charged 106 to be told to put my dog down. My dog is an old dog, very healthy, moves around like he's 5 and brought him in because of a swollen leg. The vet pretty much insisted to euthanize him. All she did was touch his leg. On one of the papers she gave me it states "we save lives", you all aren't saving anything. This is the worst experience at a vet clinic. Y'all should be ashamed. Y'all don't deserve any star rating, the only reason I left a 1 star rating is because the woman in the front was very nice and polite. The worst $106 I've ever spent. read more

Over the New Years holiday, my normal vet was closed, so I had to rush Kitty to VERGI with a life threatening obstruction in his urethra. Dr. Erbe took one look at Kitty while I was waiting in the waiting room and swept him into surgery to insert catheter, thus saving his life. She called me with updates everyday. In addition, I told Deborah-RVT that Kitty was a very scared and nervous cat in general. As a result, Deborah went out of her way to soothe and comfort him during him stay. In general, staff was well organized and informed. Overall, I was extremely pleased with VERGI and would recommend this vet to anyone. read more

I took my dog to this vet when she had a urinary tract infection because my normal vet couldn't see me for a couple days. My vet told me the symptoms were pretty obviously a UTI so we told this place that we already knew it was a UTI and we were just trying to get antibiotics for it. They ran a urinalysis $50 and prescribed a medication, which is exactly what I wanted. But then they also ran a $230 blood test "to rule out anything else." I didn't go to this vet to have my dog tested for everything in the world. I was just trying to get a UTI confirmed and get an antibiotic. So just watch out and make sure you carefully review the bill before they do anything because this place will try to add anything they can to your bill. Otherwise they nice and took good care of my dog. read more

Vergi demanded an excessive deposit before attending to my pet, then delayed reimbursing the unused portion. Medication they provided was twice the dosage set forth in the label and caused my pet substantial problems, and it could have been very serious if I had not caught it in time. UPDATE: Really?! I have credit card receipts that PROVE I paid. You need to learn how to respond to a review. She put my dog down angrily, and got in my face. I remember it very clearly. You can pretend to have reviewed "camera footage" all you want. Your business model of having used car salespersons pitch treatment plans, is a mess. Review the cameras on that. They don't even comprehend drug classifications. Telling me my dog needs certain medications and what they're for when I have a background in medicine. Facepalm. It's embarrassing. We won't use your hospital again, we chose SUNSET animal hospital for all follow up care. I can not recommend Sunset highly enough. Dr. Was aggressive and got in my face (she's MUCH taller than me) over $74 in overages after I paid $1568. Because she said we didn't pick our pet up when they called at 10:30am. (I had to call them the evening before at 9p and was told another 24 hrs would be recommended . ) Never mind that by 7p when I came to pick up my dog it had not even been a full 48 hrs. Yet we were billed 2 FULL ICU DAYS AND 2 FULL ICU NIGHTS. Interesting. When I mentioned they should eat the $75 as a courtesy for their poor communication, she put my dog onto the ground very aggressively and said "she's gonna run out", my dog doesn't do that and she's lethargic and you just treated her like garbage over your abrasive personality being ill received. read more

Vergil's 24/7 Emergency Veterinary Hospital is a great place. The staff was friendly and very helpful. However, be ready to be patient and get your bank account ready.... The only problem was that I dropped my dog at the clinic for a urinary tract infection and did not pick her up until 6.5 hours later. They kept telling me they would call me when the urinalysis results were received. I had to keep calling every 1-2 hours to find out how my dog was doing and if the results were in. Finally, I was told I could pick her up. I had approved an estimate for $324.11 that included exam, urinalysis and antibiotic. However, I had no idea that the antibiotic would be Amoxicillin. I wrongly assumed they meant an injection. I was charged $150.00 for Amoxicillin. As a physician, I know Amoxicillin for 7 days does not cost more than $15.00 to $20.00, at most. I think despite Vergi meeting a very important need in our community, gauging people at vulnerable/emotional times is wrong and negates much of the good they do. I am fortunate and blessed that I could afford it, but others may not be as fortunate. read more

I have had two most unfortunate experiences with VERGI. A few years back I had a very old dog nearing death. He was outside while I was doing the yard and wandered down the street I presume to die. A neighbor not knowing the situation saw him and brought him to VERGI. We were frantic trying to find him but finally did the next morning. Without anyone's permission they made heroic efforts to save his life to the tune of about $1500. About a month ago a neighbor's dog was bitten with two puncture wounds and the vet was closed so she was brought to VERGI. The wounds were dressed and stapled and the dog placed on antibiotics. The vet would have charged $150 but VERGI(I guess since they are an emergency clinic and can) had a bill of over $400 and the dog still got an infection and had to subsequently be brought to her own vet. After talking to the clinic director it is very obvious to me that the pets brought there are usually suffering and owners want to help their pets. These people are taking advantage of the situation by charging exorbitant fees without conscience. I just took my year and a half old dog here. My dog was vomiting, not eating and was very lethargic. I had to sign a form immediately to pay $650.00 up front. They said she has kidney failure, very low blood sugar and low blood pressure. They started fluids and said that she is in critical condition and may not make it through the night. They said she could possibly have sepsis but do not know for sure. They said a dog in this condition will need to be hospitalized for at least a week and it could cost $10,000.00 dollars. I asked that they just keep her stable for 12 hours so I could take her to our vet in the morning. They said that will cost $3,600.00. Being a mother of two I do not have that amount of money. They then said I will need to take her home and hope she makes it through the night. This ER vet just sent me home with a dog who is literally dyeing because I don't have $3,600.00 dollars. DO NOT go to this place unless you have the money. When I was checking out, I noticed that they are taking donations for the HOPE fund to help people who can not financially save their animals. This charity was never even brought up to me as a option. $950.00 later I am now home, holding my dog and praying we make it until tomorrow. Review update- Sadie passed away that night around 2:00 am. If she would have just held on until 7:00 am I would have been able to get her to our vet, who may have saved her life. I see that Vergi is attempting a sincere response to all bad reviews but honestly I am more upset by Vergis response to my experience with them. Vergis prices are OUTRAGEOUS and because I didn't have $3K I had to take her home. Total bill was over $900 from Vergi. I paid $650 upfront and now Vergi has sent the remaining balance to my credit. My children and I will forever cry when thinking about Sadie. She was simply amazing and she gave my family so much joy. What shame to loose a family member and have your credit effected. My vet would have taken Sadie overnight and made payment plans with me. Sad indeed. read more

This is the finest team of professionals in the business providing excellent care and communication regardless of the situation. We have had a life/death ER visit where our dog spent a week in ICU and many close calls we considered needed ER treatment which did not require overnight stays. This is a hard review for me to write as my dog is alive because of them, but they could maybe work on some things. My dog got heat stroke - horrible terrible thing and please be so careful with your pets, especially in hot Houston! We rushed her into VERGi and they helped us right away. They took our dog back and told us to wait in the waiting room. Soon after, they sent a tech out to get her background. We knew going into an emergency clinic that we would be judged for allowing our dog to get heat stroke, so we were somewhat prepared for that. Aside from this freak accident, we treat our dogs like humans, so don't go judging me too. anyways, the lady who came out was asking us when this happened, what we did, how long she had been panting, etc. One intensely judgmental face/comment later, I am a little snappy with her and just want our dog to live. About 30-45 minutes later, we were told we could go wait in the room for the vet who could give us more detail (at this point, we knew nothing about our dog's condition). About 15 minutes later, another tech came in telling us that it was not safe for the vet to leave our dog and we'd be waiting a bit longer. When she finally came in, she starts off about all the insides that are affected by heat stroke and how many things could never be the same, big words, some I recognized, some I was clueless. At one point I heard "50/50" and stopped her, bc at this point we had no idea if our dog was alive or what! and I asked her if she'd live and she said "I do not know." and that is when we lost it. I later concluded that our particular vet was more of a let-me-present-you-with-worst-case-scenario-so-you-are-prepared kind of woman. She also wasn't super happy/friendly, but I am not looking to make friends in the Emergency Vet Clinic, just to have my dog alive and well. and she is damn good at her job. We eventually got to see our pup, who looked awful and was all hooked up and everything. We were then sent back to the room and told a technician would come in to discuss the estimate with us. I do realize that this cannot be an easy job - there is no way that it is fun/enjoyable/easy to tell people that your vets can only hope to save your beloved pet's life, and it will cost you some huge sum of money... but this chick was awful! she did not complete a sentence the entire time she was talking to us... "yeah so, just sign.. and yeah, here it says... ok I think, well you should read this and yeah..." what the heck! I was mad again. THEN while we are out in the waiting room, another vet was talking with a couple about their dog who might have lupus. not only do I feel like that should have been done inside a room, but the vet was very unprofessional. another technician walked out to leave for the day and the vet interrupted her to make a joke about how long she has been working/when she was supposed to get off and then had to ask the couple where she was in their conversation b/c she was distracted! seriously?!?! not ok. This same lady proceeded to interrupt that conversation again! wtf. Last thing that didn't sit well with me was when just before we left we wanted to go see our dog again. The lady at the front desk said over the intercom: "Maggie's family wants to say goodbye. Oh, I mean goodnight" then says to us, while laughing - I probably shouldn't say "goodbye" uh no, no you shouldn't. In the end, she is with us today and doing well - which is all that matters, but I was still perturbed by the bedside manner, unprofessional-ness, and then even some overreacting with some treatment of her paws (which our vet said was over done..) read more

This is the ONLY emergency clinic I trust my animals with when they need urgent care. This past Sunday was no exception when I brought in my 10-year old golden retriever, who I thought might have a UTI. I didn't even have time to finish the one page paperwork when they came to get her for exam. We were brought in a room and spoke to Dr Sanderson. She was kind, understanding, thorough in getting medical history on my dog and easy to speak with. She was going to do blood labs & an abdominal X-ray, which goes out STAT to a radiologist for initial assessment. She gave us a timeframe of a couple hours. When we came back we met with Dr Sanderson again and went over all results. My dog did have a UTI. She came home with medication & details for follow up. I was so impressed with Dr Sanderson. Her serious treatment of my dog, not like some animal but her PATIENT, her responsibility to get a correct diagnosis & convey that back to us with accuracy & kindness. I recommend VERGI 24/7. My baby boys were coughing so hard they were spitting up. And they sounded like geese....honk, honk, honk! They both kept waking us up so at 3:30am Monday morning, I pulled on some clothes & headed to Vergi. The place looked closed but since I knew it's a 24/7 emergency clinic I rang the bell. Someone immediately appeared & buzzed me in. I explained what brought us there & someone took the boys in the back while I filled out the paperwork. I was 1/2 way through the first page & Dr. Southerland came out to tell me that they have kennel cough (apparently the vaccination for it is not a guarantee against contracting it) which is viral so there really isn't any medicine to treat it. However, she was prescribing them a cough suppressant. She did mention that there were other tests she could run but didn't recommend it as all of their vitals looked great. So I paid the bill (which was surprisingly inexpensive) got the discharge instructions & pills (which they halved for me!). 4 days later & the boys are doing great (the coughing has all but stopped). I did see a sign by the counter that explains patients are seen in the order of how urgent medical attention is needed. I wish I would have seen this when I brought in Ezra a few months back. I would have been much more understanding of my long wait. read more

Ok so this place is pretty bad. I mentioned this place to other pet owner's and 3 other friends and acquaintances feel the same way. So I just got back from my first visit here, here's how it went: 1) I walked in at 6:45 PM with my dog who had a cut/gash on her face 2) waited for about 1 hour and 30 minutes before I finally saw a vet tech (not the initial tech vet I saw to assess if my dog was a critical condition patient) 3) waited another 30 minutes for the vet to come and talk to me about the next steps to come - I wouldn't have been so annoyed about the 30 minute wait if I hadn't kept being told throughout my visit here that it would be "just one moment" - the vet, Dr. Hessler?, was really nice and explained what all my dog would have to have done. He answered all my questions patiently, his attitude and mannerism is what got this review 2 stars instead of 1 4) I asked if I could leave to get a kennel while my dog was being sedated and stapled, the tech tells me this is fine and to come back as soon as I can because the procedure would be "really quick" 5) I come back in about 40 minutes, around 9:15, the front desk person tells me that it'll be another hour. - OH this lady is the worst. I understand how tiring it must be to work at a 24 hour clinic. But a god complex, really?? Understand that everyone in the waiting room is a nervous wreck, we're all worried about our animal's well being and how expensive the bill will be. And that we've all been waiting patiently with a seemingly slow moving staff. It was understood among all of us that critical condition animals would go first. Well this lady just flexed her muscles every chance. For example, a line to the front desk, she'll help the person behind you because that person has a bill to pay. Once she's done with that, she'll wait to see how long you'll wait before you say something. Once you do, i.e. After standing awkwardly at the counter for about 5 minutes without her addressing you or even looking up, "Um...hi, when will my dog be ready?". She'll answer you in the most curt tone. No apologies about the additional hour. 5) I came back to pick up my dog, I turned and left, vowing never to come back. Now I am writing this review, to save other pet owners from having a horrible experience even worse because of the clinic they chose. additional info: My bill was pretty high, granted I needed to have my dog sedated and stapled (btw- pretty sloppy job with the staples, definitely will have some noticeable scar tissue), they overcharged. 35 something dollars for a floppy collar, 50 something dollars for a couple pills. I understand that for many whenever there is an emergency situation involving pets, money is a non issue. But, next time I'm going to yelp or check up on a clinic before I go. Time is of the essence in emergencies, but take the extra time to find the right place, because at this place, you're going to end up wasting a several hours anyways. read more

Good for Your pet to be immediately seen, but not necessarily best for less emergency situations. This place is obviously very useful when in emergency given that they were the only ER I called that said they could look at my cat right away to determine if my cat was stable (which they did). I appreciated him being seen right away so I could at least know that it wasn't a timely emergency, but this place is not the best for sicknesses that are not a huge emergency. I wish I would have transferred a bit sooner to have my cat looked at with fresh eyes (and someone with less on their hands), because we spent $1300 on blood tests, x rays, etc. and were left with no answers. I understand that you have to expect that sometimes when determining the cause of illness, but I wish the vet could have prescribed antibiotics much sooner since that was what has worked for him, and looking back on it, I feel like was something that could have been given sooner to see it's effectiveness before spending over a thousand on scans/tests. I didn't feel much compassion from the staff but I also understand that they see terrible things daily. I would have appreciated more communication and having my questions answered more by staff but I also do understand that given being a smaller 24/7 emergency clinic, it is not realistic to expect very thorough communication like with your normal vet. Basically, good for quick emergency, but I would transfer hospitals or go to your vet if you don't need help straight away. Diane was amazing though, I can't say enough good things about her. I could see that she genuinely cared, and she helped answer my questions to the best of her ability. She really takes her job seriously and cares for your baby, and so I always felt very content after speaking with her. read more

I did not believe a 24/7 emergency vet could possibly be 5 star experience but that's what I got at Vergi. My dog was quickly assessed and got the necessary testing. They give an estimate BEFORE they charge you. Their prices are VERY reasonable for a 24/7 clinic. My dog did have an issue that could not be cured. They handled her passage with compassion and kindness. Would highly recommend. read more

BEWARE! Be prepared to stand up for yourself and your pets! My 4yr old ridgeback will eat anything and has eaten garbage and had colitis in the past. I took him to this clinic on a Saturday after more than 48hrs of diarrhea. I brought a stool sample of his most recent loose movement. In triage he had perfect vitals: good heart rate, no fever, etc. After waiting 2 hrs of waiting for my quote( they won't do anything until they give you a quote for the full course of treatment including medication-ridiculous! How do they know which medication to give without running any tests?) my dog began to have bloody diarrhea. They then brought a quote for $290. It included several medications for nausea and diarrhea and probiotics. One of the medications was metronidazole. I asked if this was an antibiotic and was told "no, it is an anti diarrhea medication". I felt he needed an antibiotic since his symptoms were the same as last time he had colitis and because he had recently eaten trash as he had last time he had colitis. I was told by this tech that they couldn't prescribe an antibiotic until they "knew" he had infection and a fecal drop would help them to know. Then dr. Merrin came in and she immediately left the room. He wanted to admit my dog overnight. He started talking about specific illnesses that are very serious... Like he was trying to scare me. They had done no tests. When I asked why admit him overnight and what would they do I was told the purpose of admitting him overnight would be doing blood work. I told them if they wanted to do blood work to take blood and do it now because I wasn't leaving my dog overnight. They said they had to draw up a new quote. They took the original quote I had signed away from me. 45 minutes later a different tech arrived with a new quote for over$1200 that included ICU admission overnight, a catheter, an IV port, including several other things like $300 for "miscellaneous injections"(yes! That is what it said on the paperwork!). I laughed. I said we're getting way ahead of ourselves. What have you been doing the last 3 hours? How about test the stool sample or run some blood work before admitting my dog to the ICU without running ANY tests? I mean, COME ON! I had to be very assertive and INSIST on tests being run. I told them I would be happy to pay for blood work and the visit immediately to get the ball rolling and that we could go from there after getting the lab results. Another 30 minutes and I get another quote totally $324 and change for the visit and blood tests. I sign it, pay for it, and we get the results 20 minutes later. My dog has colitis from eating trash. Just like I had been telling them for 3 and a half hours! They took another hour to bring me another quote which included THE SAME medications they were going to give me in the first place. Guess what?! Metronidazole IS AN ANTIBIOTIC. SO the first tech either LIED TO ME or just DOESNT KNOW HOW TO DO HER JOB. I told the current tech what the original tech told me. I was exasperated! All the unnecessary time and the extra money for unneeded blood work! What waste! He didn't care. He looked like I was just wasting his time and annoying him. I waited nearly another hour for the meds then left the exam room with my dog who was shivering from the extremely low temperature in the room and went back to the desk. They started to discharge me without the medications! They said they were still being filled. I told them I wasn't paying for meds that I had not yet received. 3 minutes later I received the medications, paid, and went home with my miserable sick dog. I think if I had paid when they wanted I would've been there for another hour or two before my dog got his medicine. All the run around getting quotes and trying to get me to agree for unnecessary treatments got them an extra $226 from me and wasted over 3 hours of my time. I really think they tried to use fear to get more money from me(to the tune of $1200). They never tested the stool sample. And during that time my sick dog sat in an uncomfortably cold room receiving no treatment for his ailments. Next time I'll spend the extra money for the exam fee and go to gulf coast on the 610 loop where the staff is knowledgable and ethical. read more

After reading these reviews, I was very apprehensive about my dog, Bucky, getting surgery here. I could not have been more wrong!!!! My husband originally checked him in and dropped him off and said everyone was nice, quick, and knowledgeable. Since Bucky was going to need surgery on his intestines they called in a special soft tissue surgeon, who is highly recommend and rated. I was very pleased to know that they took the situation serious enough and genuinely wanted Bucky to get better. Bucky stayed at VERGI for 3 days. During those 3 days, we were called with updates exactly when they said they would call. They also took our calls promptly and provided us with all the information we requested. We were able to visit Bucky and after every visit the vet came to give us an update. The facility is very clean and the staff was always friendly and helpful, even during busy hours. I left every visit feeling like Bucky was is good hands and getting the best care possible. Overall our experience was great and I would recommend VERGI to anyone with an animal emergency. However, please be aware this is an emergency clinic, not a normal vet or shelter. Their prices are high because they have a large staff that works 24/7/365 and they perform emergency treatment. It would be the same if a human went to an emergency room at a hospital. The staff really do care about your animal but do not have the resources to treat every animal that comes in without payment. They are not a shelter that operates on donations. read more

My young male cat, Jessie, had deposits in his urinary tract that were preventing him from urinating, and I had to rush him to VERGI around 1AM early one morning. Dr. Amy Southerland was the physician who treated Jessie, and though she used a catheter on him, and put him on fluids, the catheter soon became stopped up, requiring a catheter change every hour. When Jessie didn't respond as cats generally do, and had lab results that remained very atypical, Dr. Southerland ran some tests and discovered that he had feline HIV. It was thought to be playing a large role in his lack of significant improvement. After talking it over with Dr. Southerland, we decided that the most humane thing for Jessie was for me to go up, spend some time with him, and then say good-bye, since it was possible, if not likely, that he would fail to recover, regardless of what was done. At every step along the way, Dr. Southerland or someone else at VERGI kept me well informed, and staff members did an excellent job of going over the various procedures that needed to be done, as well as those that were less necessary. No good vet is cheap, and it should be remembered that VERGI is an ER for one's pet. However, there were no surprises, and the staff worked with me to contain the costs as much as possible, while still providing the essential services for Jessie's comfort and the best outcome possible. It was heartbreaking to have to let Jessie go, but I am convinced that it was the most humane thing for him in the long run. Dr. Southerland and the staff had obviously been taking good care of Jessie, and with the pain medication he was on, he didn't appear to be suffering. I was provided a room where I could be with him privately for as long as I wanted, and he recognized me, and I gave him all the love I had, and then said goodbye. Dr. Southerland showed an incredible amount of empathy and sensitivity to what I was feeling, and it was clear that she had become emotionally involved in Jessie's outcome herself. I honestly don't think there was anything that could be done that wasn't, but his urine remained mostly blood, and his numbers showed little sign of returning to normalcy. But while the outcome was far from what I had hoped, I was very moved by the obvious and excellent care that he had received there, as well as by the kindness shown by the staff, and particularly by Dr. Southerland. I hope never to need emergency services for a pet again. However, if I do, I would not hesitate to take my pet to VERGI. This is particularly true if one's pet becomes seriously ill during hours when their regular vet is closed for the evening or weekend. One last comment. A sick or injured pet is very distressing not only to the animal, but to the animal's human partner. It's easy to become emotional, and to have unrealistic expectations about what is and isn't possible for a doctor to do. The sad truth is that while many animals can be saved, some, unfortunately, cannot be, regardless of who the vet is, or how much one is willing and able to spend. So, a review of any veterinarian is more likely to be accurate if one remains as objective and as realistic as possible. read more

I've never written a review before, but by far this is the worst vet I've been at, the staff does not properly tell you the method in which they operate, this place only cares for the money and not the animals, they are super rude! They interrupt whenever you speak and they have no manners what so ever. They had me seating for 7 in my car to tell me something I already knew and wanted to charge me 500$ for services that were not going to be beneficial for the dog, please don't come here, you will safe a lot of trouble and time. read more

My dog was going through labor, and I just called to see if about how long her contractions usually last so I know to be worried after a certain time period, to take her in to see a vet if her contractions were too long.. The grouchy receptionist answers "I can not give you any medical assistance over the phone"...first of all I'm not even asking for medical assistance, I wanted to know what you suggested but obviously you're just trying to milk me for my money.... No one wants to take their pet to an emergency 24 hr vet because it's insanely expensive, and to have an unsympathetic selfish receptionist even tops it off! Just bc of that phone call, I will never take my dog to your vet =) read more

We have visited VERGI several times over the past 5 years for emergency situations with our dogs. Even though, their exam fee is higher than usual, i think it is worth it in those moments of panic in the middle of the night. Great service! read more

Had my dog cremated with Vergi. They made a mistake and did not return the ashes like they were supposed to. Still haven't been able to get over it. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Could happen to you. read more
