    Father's Day brunch
    Keith C.

I wanted to really be impressed with Vernon's after reading the reviews but just wasn't. We went for Father's Day brunch. They were training a really young guy as host and he was really nervous, dropping silverware and repeating himself (understandable). But, the front door was open and there was none of the speakeasy entrance vibe that adds to the fun. Our waiter was attentive but slow to return with drinks ordered, missing a cup of coffee and about 10 minutes for a draft beer. A few of us ordered the prime rib, which was cooked perfectly but served without any au jus or horseradish. Don't know if it was even an option as it wasn't on the menu and our waiter didn't return until we were done eating. After about 10 minutes from getting our meals served, I had to hunt down our waiter and ask for a couple of steak knives as the table knives were not cutting it (literally). The gentleman at the next table had ordered the rib-eye and was using a hefty steak knife so we knew this was an omission. For the price and the hype, I expected more. Especially for a place that calls itself a "speakeasy" and not just a restaurant. I'm not sure if the speakeasy vibe is solely for in the evening or not but it was a disappointment that brunch service had no special vibe.

Such a fun and memorable experience! You start by giving the password at the hidden entrance, and from that moment on, it feels like stepping back in time. The actor who explained the house rules set the tone perfectly, funny, theatrical, and totally in character. Dinner was excellent. I had the ribeye, cooked perfectly with great flavor, and Jen had the filet, tender and delicious. Our waiter was fantastic: attentive, personable, and really added to the overall experience. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a speakeasy, dark, intimate, and full of character. Between the great food, service, and immersive vibe, this place nails it. Highly recommend for a unique night out!

8oz filet with truffle garlic mashed potatoes and the house four cheese mac and cheese

Best service I have ever had in Albuquerque! My steak was perfectly medium rare and the truffle garlic mashed potatoes were HEAVEN. My partner and I went here for my birthday last month and absolutely dying to go back! 10/10 would recommend Ambiance 5/5 there was a pianist playing in our room! Service 5/5 staff was held to the upmost professionalism and management even came by to check in since we went for a special occasion Food 5/5 I think this was the best steak I've ever had in New Mexico, including Santa Fe!! Vernon's I love you !!

I didn't know I needed to come here. I'm so glad I did! It's a speakeasy but they don't keep it totally secretive. Which is nice in the sense that after a long work day, I just want a drink!! From the greeter's character to being seated and served, service was a 5/5. I was able to try the Sautéed mushrooms, asparagus con carne, crab cake, adult Mac and cheese, seasonal old fashioned and the nuts and berries cocktail. Sautéed mushrooms: nice balance. If you don't like rosemary, maybe order something else. It's not strong but it's a strong flavor that not everyone likes. Not too salty. Perfectly sautéed. Asparagus con carne: this is filling!!! Solid girthy asparagus stalks and the meat was great. I've never had it wrapped with beef strip loin. It's tasty! Crab cake: petit. Plenty of crab flavor and not too heavily fried. Adult Mac and cheese: the smoked Gouda really makes it delicious. Seasonal old fashioned: had great notes of spices and vanilla. Nuts and berries: I can drink this all day long. Perfectly dessert to cap off the night. This place is extremely spacious. It makes you feel like you're truly underground. Bathrooms are clean also.

We had a fabulous time on our 20th anniversary at Vernon's. The food was delicious and of course a good wine selection. Excellent service and easy to find. Five stars!!

As a Vernon's VIP member for the last 7 years I'm a fan. Quality food, excellent customer service and attention to detail unmatched. Santo the VIP manager and José the main bartender nail it every time I come visit. And Jermaine provides door to door pick up service in their beautiful Limo every time. What's not to like. Had my go to Martini to start and a cigar in the patio. Moved inside for an excellent meal. I had the Stuffed Quail served up with a side of green beans and a mushroom risotto. Bam delicious. My son went for the special Pork Loin with a red chile glaze, mushroom risotto and asparagus. Also delicious. Vernon's is a special place here in the North Valley and if you haven't tried it yet you need to. First timers will be amazed at the Speakeasy vibe by knocking on the door and being asked through a sliding window for the 'password' Once inside a gentlemen dressed in a pinstripe suit and spats will give you the 'rules' of the house. Not to be missed. Trust me, the experience sets the stage for a memorable evening of nostalgia (Al Capone photos etc) and delicious food. Fugghedaboutit!

    Vernon's birthday gift.

The entire experience was incredible! From the cloak and dagger front entrance to the ambient surroundings it was as if we stepped into a different era. The staff, impeccable. The food will definitely receive Gordon Ramsay's stamp of approval. It was my daughter's 18th birthday and she agreed that it was top tier.

    Full bar at Vernon's Speakeasy

Following along with my friends, we stopped here for pre-dinner drinks and had a very nice time. It's definitely styled as a speakeasy complete with the mural of Al Capone and the required password to get in the door (I missed the password since I wasn't in charge tonight). Huge bar of spirits with a bartender who put together all sorts of craft cocktails for our group. I'm not usually a spirits drinker so I stuck to easy stuff like Old Fashioned and it was very tasty. We had dinner reservations for elsewhere so we didn't stay to eat. This is a high class spot for sure. [Review 21075 overall - 122 in New Mexico - 38 of 2024.]

Overall I had an amazing experience at Vernon speakeasy, but I can't say that it was because of the food haha. The drinks were fantastic though, maybe the best I've had in all of Albuquerque with the drinks at the ten coming in second place. Don't get me wrong, they're food is definitely above average for Albuquerque. But if we're judging food alone then I would rather find myself at fogo de chao, or scalo, or another good eatery that is centered around the food. There's more to a dining experience than the meal though, at least in my opinion. Unlimited stars for the deliciousness of the drinks and the creativity of the concept! From the moment you make the reservation, you feel like you're about to embark on an upscale mystery, a true speakeasy feel with a flare of bougie added to it. You're told that you need to agree to their dress code and policies. I personally don't mind that because it only adds to the fine dining ambience of being somewhere nice and not having someone in ripped jeans and flip flops next to you. You're also told upfront that the secret password will be sent to you the day of. When you arrive, you're to wait in your car until they text you that you can come in and your table is ready. They made it mysterious so it's not totally obvious how to enter but they also didn't make it impossible, in case you're lost they also have a video that helps you find the place. Props for organization! Once you enter you have an old school Italian gangster that greets you, tells you about the place and opens the secret bookshelf and takes you in. You also get to see all the famous people's pictures who have dined there. The inside of the speakeasy is HUGE, it has so many different dining areas, bars and lounges. There was live entertainment playing, but it wasn't too loud so you can still talk to your table mates. The illicit lemon and pain killer drinks were sooo good we didn't even want to try anything else. 1000% of awesomeness. So here comes the food review... I'll start with the good. Crab cakes were really good. They had a nice crispy crust and soft delicious inside, the aoli on top was delightful. The calamari itself had the perfect texture and you can tell it was freshly breaded by hand, but then they made flavorless marinara that just didn't taste like anything to go with it. We got the most popular item on the menu, the prime rib, and the horseradish sauce it came with was absolutely wonderful. The prime rib itself was decent but nothing to write home about , but I asked for extra sauce and it made the meal good. The filet Oscar style. I would say the filet menon and lobster were what I would expect them to taste like, nothing very memorable, not bad either just not a wow factor. However the yucca fries that it came with. Wow . I wish I could just order them as a separate side they were insanely good. Also the manager showed us their membership options which I believe were around $1,300 per year and included car service to the restaurant. If you're a regular that's a smoking deal. I considered becoming a regular just to take advantage of that perk haha

Ask the Community - Vernon's Speakeasy

Is the dress code casual? I am wearing a collared golf short and slacks. Wife is in similar casual attire

I wish they would enforce one. I showed up in a suit and tie but was surprised to see dudebro after chadbro in t shirts and baseball caps. It's Albuquerque, I get it. But it brings down the ambiance.

Is this good for a date for some teens?

I feel it lends to a more mature crowd 21 and over!
