Bummer We've been there before and the food, service, and ambiance was wonderful. Not this time. This time we were in a small, back room near the kitchen; we could hear the service. We sat down, did not order drinks because my husband is sober and I've never been one that drinks, we did order an appetizer. The bread came, and before we even had time to have a piece, the appetizer showed and they wisked away the bread & oil/vinegar. This time we did not order soup/salad because it is just so much food - not a complaint. Before we finished our appetizer our entrees were arriving. I enjoyed mine, but my husband's steak was kind of just bland, cooked nicely, but no flavor. Then dessert came, and the clove was overpowering. All in all, we felt very rushed. We were in and out within 45 minutes. Due to our work schedules, we don't have more than a few opportunities in the year to go out for a night on the town, so to speak, and enjoy a good meal and each others company, and we just felt rushed. It was a bummer. This place was our go-to, maybe now it will be 10/3. We will see. read more

Very nice experience! I won't spoil it for you. The staff were super knowledgeable about the menu and pricing! The low light ambient lighting is what gave this place a fancy steakhouse feel. The steak however was not that great. I ordered a New York strip and was very tough and under seasoned. (I took what I couldn't eat, home for leftovers and reheated it the next day. I couldn't eat it, gave it to the dog. The dog ate it without chewing.) It needed some salt and pepper BAD. The truffle butter carried it home. Lobster tail was a little rubbery. All in all, I recommend going for the experience at least once. I will do steaks and lobster at home, the way that I prefer. read more

(You also get 10% off food with Yelp. Had no idea until we checked in!) When you go (because you absolutely should) ask for Josh! He's attentive, friendly, and extremely accommodating. He does an excellent job of checking in at the perfect times without being overwhelming. He lets you enjoy the experience without making you feel rushed. He also provided information about Albuquerque for fun things to do. Remember, ask for Josh as your server! You won't be disappointed. Overall, Vernon's is a fun night out, particularly if you can get seating in the same room as the music. That said, it's VERY pricey and my steak was mediocre. I've been to Vernon's twice, many years apart, and my impression was the same each time. I can get the same size filet mignon I ordered for $74 at Vernon's for just $56 at Ruth Chris. And RC pretty consistently cooks their steaks as ordered, whereas my filet at Vernon's was a bit too well done. The baked potato and the veggies were ok, but nothing special. It's just average food. You're paying for the experience. If you've never been, try it once, but don't say you weren't warned if the food fails to live up to its pricing. read more

What a great speakeasy. I went alone for New Year's Eve dinner. The menu was fabulous. Bone marrow needed a bread or cracker but was divine. Oysters Rockefeller (maybe overpriced a bit) tasted sublime. Clam chowder is usually not prepared to my liking but this one hit every mark! Cheese bread was a nice start. Paid a bit extra for wine and cocktails. My steak was overcooked and my server never came back to check on me til my meal was finished. You would think that I ate everything else plus the dessert that followed and not even an ask to why there was only one bite. (He didn't come around for me to complain) frustrating but I'll be back. Great place for a fancy date night! The atmosphere was fun, starting with the password to enter and the speech from the doorman when you come in. There was live music and several bars as we walked through the place on the way to our table. It was a bit of a maze, which added to the speakeasy vibe. The drink options were excellent, with a variety of traditional cocktails. We had a smoked old fashioned, a bee's knees, a pain killer, and an espresso martini. We both had steaks for dinner, which were cooked perfectly according to our preferences. I had the truffle mashed potatoes, which were delicious, and my boyfriend had the steak fries, which were a little overdone. The entry "performance" may be a bit over the top, but once inside the decor, service and food did not disappoint! I had the filet and onion soup, we shared the flourless chocolate cake for desert. Everything was pretty good, but my steak was served luke warm at best. When I told the server he seemed a bit concerned, but did not offer a solution. At the risk of being arrested for making this review, I will tell you about this secret place. In an undisclosed location lies this low key place where people need a password and guts to enter. In just a few seconds we were seated at our sketchy corner. The music was mellow, with a pianist taking care of the tunes at some point. The light was dimmed, romantic, and intimate. Our server was quite attentive and amazing, making sure we were comfortable. The food was absolutely excellent, starting with the asparagus con carne with a subtle balsamic and sriracha aioli that was delightful. The Caesar salad could have been a boring salad. Instead, they offered a green or red chile dressing. We went for Christmas, because we live in ABQ. The entrée was to die for with a tomahawk steak and a lobster tail. I'm not a fan of seafood, but I still finished my portion. The medium rare temperature on that steak was perfect and the seared part had a hint of citrus. The risotto was creamy and the mushrooms brought an earthiness I wanted to keep savoring. To end, an apple dessert was a perfect end to this scrumptious dinner. After 3 years of trying to get in touch with the people at Vernon's, I have decided to downgrade my review to 1 star. I'm open to changing this review if someone would reach out and provide an explanation for why is as good paying regulars were rejected from renewing our VIP with no notice. We were regulars until shortly after my wlife gave birth. We were so impressed with everything about Vernon's that we joined their VIP club right after restaurants started opening after COVID. We truly felt like we found our spot. We were reminded of the age limit which we had no complaints about. This is a classy place and babies don't exactly fit it, I get it. After time passed and our kid was able to be babysat so we could go out again, I reached out to renew our VIP membership and got crickets. I followed up via phone and text and there was no response. It seems as though us being temporarily absent was enough to no longer be considered valuable customers. My wife and I tried to reach out continuously for over 3 and half years with absolutely no follow up for their team. This place was magical for us, but if you're a parent, you apparently get kicked out of the club no matter how many times you regularly went before. Again, if someone on the VIP team had the confidence to reach out to me or my wife (our numbers are the same as when we signed up, you have them) and bury the hatchet, I'm open to revising my review back to the 5 star version it once was. read more

There are better places to spend your money. Initially a mashup of Disneyland and a haunted house in someone's garage. You get a password and you get in. A little dinner theater to start and then you are ushered in. There is a bunch of black curtains that cordon off the initial space. These are is fine. Too bad they didn't have tables in this area. Unfortunately, we were placed in the back room. This area resembles the waiting area of a gate at an airport. Tables uniformly placed and the ambiance of a Zip lube waiting room. Food was fine. Fine, but overpriced. There are better, cheaper restaurants. You aren't missing anything if you take a pass. Dinning prices are nuts. Spend wisely. There are better options. read more

Everything was delicious ! We went for our birthday made reservations ahead of time wanted to give my son a new and memorable experience and this place did not disappoint! One of us did have a gluten allergy and our server was very knowledgeable and patient with all our questions we definitely appreciated that. Last night my pork chops was super dry could only do two bites but risotto was good. My husband ordered a ribeye, and it was not as he had asked it to be and he said it was like chewing on leather so he only has two bites, they did offer to cook him another when they came by to pick up every ones plates but our whole group was done eating so he passed. Are you looking for a fine dining experience? This may be for you. Reservations are a must since without them you won't have the password to get in the door. You need the password. Also see their webpage if you have young children as there is an age requirement. Now to the fun stuff. This is the kind of restaurant that if you chose to wear a 1920's dress or suit and really go all out, you'd feel comfortable. The theme is a go! The front door is knocked upon, password given, you spend some time being instructed to leave your weapons at the door and being told if you see someone you know, you don't know them here. Very theatrical and fun. Then you are seated, the tables are separated by drapery and it really gives a very private feel to the entire visit. There are booths that look like they can be completely closed off for full privacy. They had live piano music the night we were there. It was just right, not too loud but could be heard well. Ok, now we should talk about the food. It was excellent. Think upscale steak house, however; there are plenty of other options on the menu to include vegetarian if I remember correctly. Steaks were cooked perfectly, my brother in law's chicken was outstanding and my sister in law's prime rib was exactly as asked for. On top of all that dessert was a perfect ending to a beautiful meal. The service was easily the best service I have had anywhere in a very long time. The server was friendly, great with recommendations and a true asset to the business. The prices are high however the experience and food we received for the price was unmatched. The first time we went (about a decade ago), we were incredibly impressed. I still dream about the Yukon gold mashed potatoes I had. We've returned a handful of times over the past few years and always enjoy our meal. The ribeye melts in your mouth, and those potatoes are every bit as good now as the first time I had them.
