This was my first time trying Detroit style pizza, and Toni's was such a great find. The meatballs were incredible, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The pizza itself had that classic pillowy, focaccia like crust with a cheesy, caramelized edge that Detroit pies are known for, though the crust was a bit more charred than I prefer, so I ended up sharing with my boyfriend. The antipasto was absolutely delicious. The lettuce was crisp, the cheese and salami were top notch, and the light dressing tied everything together perfectly. We paid around $35 before tax and tip, which is an absolute steal in Charleston for portions this huge. I also loved the Detroit themed decor. It's everywhere, and it's so cute, nostalgic, and fun. I've never been to Michigan, but the vibe made me feel like I had stepped right into it. Fast service and a wonderful staff made the experience even better.

    Time for some good pizza.

Wow, this is great pizza! We love coming here! We always start by splitting a large house salad. They have beer and wine, I'll get the local Coast Kolsch. Then we each order a small pizza to get our favorite flavor. I love the Detroiter and Alan will have the veggie. Delicious flavor in each one, and the dough has wonderful crispy edges. Service has always been on point, with friendly and attentive service. Great pizza!

Simply put, I love it. I've tried a few, but the one that hits right is the classic pepperoni on the bottom with Italian sausage on top (wait, are we still talking about pizza or a bathhouse in east Shanghai?). Every Sunday is my Toni's jam without fail, so much so that I've made it WAY too easy for assassins to find me. I guess I'm bulletproof. It just hits right - every time I go in there people are pleasant and the place has a cool Detroit vibe without the bullets and gutted houses. What's awesome about Toni's is that I'm a disgusting overeater when it comes to pizza, and their four slice Detroit is absolutely perfect. Two slices in, you're worried you'll still be hungry, and then slice #4 ends on a high note, much like a final show and tell with your ex-girlfriend (but without the insults). Love the brick cheese and their sauce is on point. My only slight complaint is that eight or so months they had someone who cooked it perfectly - I mean dead on. It's still awesome, but lately tastes like another minute or two would be killer. Not sure if it's because of how busy it can get, but it doesn't knock anything off my review. As I said, I've gone weekly for almost two years and never once had a complaint. It's that good. It also helps that they're on Toast, so ordering is easier than a Kardashian (and less filling).

Yum! Yum!! Detroit style pizza at its finest!! If you're a fan of Buddy's Pizza or Jets Pizza in Detroit, MI this pizza is for you! They also sell Faygo pop from Detroit!! It tasted so great! Staff was wonderful to us. We ordered a carry out & chatted with staff on our way out.

One of my favorite pizzas in Charleston! This family owned and run business deserves so much recognition and love. All three servers, Kole, Joel, and Sue are such a delight to interact with. I love being a regular here and trying every pizza they have to offer. I've had every single one on the menu! The highlight definitely has to be the Super pizza. Their salads are so fresh and tasty that I always have to order one when I go. The Greek is the absolute best. They have one of the only vegan Caesar's in the area- not made with anchovy! Please don't skip out on this place it is the BOMB

OMG so amazing. Literally drive 30 mins just to get this pizza. The crust is thick and soft. The service is amazing. The hot fudge sundae was perfect temperature and taste. The pizza also has a perfect sauce to cheese ratio and has just enough crunch while also being soft. 10/10. Highly highly recommend if you are coming into the Charleston area

Toni's is the real deal - a perfect, four-piece Detroit Pizza. Of course, they have an eight slice option, but four just hits right; not too much, not too little. I always order my pizza to go, so I can't speak to the in room dining ambiance, but I can tell you that I've never been disappointed. The new varieties (particularly the meat ricotta) all hit their targets, but I always seem to gravitate towards the old school pepperoni (under the cheese). Good service and great pizza at a fair price. What more could you ask for?

Ask the Community - Toni's Detroit Style Pizza

    Do they have GF crust?

Not sure about GF crust, but they serve giant salads that can easily be shared, or eaten as a meal if you were looking for a healthy alternative.

Is a small big enough for my wife and I?

The pieces are heavy so a small would probably fill up two people. You could always add a salad or meatball appetizer for good measure.

Our bartender/server was great. He was friendly and professional, yet laid back. We shared two appetizers and loved them both. The Pimento Cheese & crackers had quite a zip to it. The Tuna Tostadas were excellent. Large and full of toppings made it a great choice. If I lived nearby, I would stop in often.

They also didn't have their HH menu updated online so there were things we wanted but couldn't get because it was a different menu. We ended up getting a couple dozen oysters, smoked fish dip and crispy tuna rice. Oysters were fresh and nicely chilled, tuna rice was well seasoned and the fish dip was ok, didn't have any smoky flavor or element to it and lacked in flavor. We ended up moving back down with our friends who had dogs so they ordered from the regular menu. The server was very accommodating and friendly. My friend got the burnt ends Mac n cheese and that was delicious! The place itself was huge and I could see it being a great spot for private events. Overall we had a good time.

It was one of those moments when they told us they were full, but two people left the bar at the same time. We were so lucky! So many people were waiting. We also loved the fries that garnished it; they were almost like a hash brown. We also shared a pasta with ricotta that was incredible. Despite being ready when reservations opened, the best we could manage was a lunch reservation. No worries though because lunch at Obstinate Daughter is better than no Obstinate Daughter at all. We were able to find parking in the neighborhood and had a short walk to Middle Street. From the moment we entered the establishment, I understood the hype. Our server, Sara H., was wonderful throughout the entire meal and we kicked things off with cocktails: the Abandon Ship and All Hands on Deck. Both were excellent and set the tone for what turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip - and there were a lot of highlights!!! I also ordered the Tuna Crudo special, which was incredibly fresh and a great way to start my meal. For the table, we shared the Local Lettuce Salad, the Farro with Chicken, and the Moultrie Pizza. Everything was seriously fantastic. The Local Lettuce Salad was simple but executed perfectly with croutons, parmesan, egg, and buttermilk vinaigrette. The Moultrie Pizza, topped with pepperoni, Mepkin Abbey shiitake mushrooms, tomato, mozzarella, and parmesan, disappeared quickly. And the true star of the meal for me was the Farro with Chicken. The combination of Brussels sprouts, peanuts, balsamic, black truffle, and perfectly cooked chicken was absolutely incredible. If I lived nearby, I would order this dish again and again without hesitation. Considering the restaurant's location on Sullivan's Island and its well-earned reputation, I also thought the prices were relatively reasonable. I loved the vibes. It was packed but the service never wavered. This meal was so, so, so, so, so good. In fact, if we could have snagged another reservation during the same trip, I absolutely would have returned. The hype is real. Obstinate Daughter is worth it!
