We have been intermittent patrons of Vespucci's over the years. First of all if you are looking for an amazing eggplant parmesan look no further. We have been ordering this as a platter for well over a decade for family gatherings and it is consistently perfect. The eggplant is super thin, tender, and exquisitely nestled in just the right balance of sauce. We have also ordered take out from here during the pandemic. They are a good value for the price and most entrees come with a very fresh and crispy salad and freshly baked bread. Overall the servings are generous and you will most certainly not go hungry after finishing a meal. This review is based on our overall experience dining here over the years as well as a recent experience using Vespucci's for catering. We had a birthday celebration for ~25 adults and ordered a large Caesar salad, large tortellini Napolitano, large roasted potatoes, and large string beans as well as chicken marsala. There was plenty of food and we had copious amounts of leftovers for reasonably priced entrees. The salad in and of itself was delicious with very fresh romaine lettuce and copious amounts of parmesan cheese; however, the dressing was very heavy and very fishy. The potatoes were perfectly roasted and well seasoned with the right balance of salt, pepper, and roasted garlic and tasted even better as leftovers. Admittedly the green beans were soggy and salty. The chicken marsala was bountiful in quantity, very tender, well seasoned, and there was copious sauce to the point that we jarred some of it and set aside for a future use. The tortellini was another popular hit. We enjoyed the rose (I believe?) sauce with prosciutto and peas interlaced for the right amount of texture. While we might switch up a few orders we would definitely consider ordering catering from them again as they were very easy to work with. All in all Vespucci's is a consistent Italian eatery in the Cheshire restaurant scene that delivers well on value and overall tasty food. Stopped in because we were starving and it was the closest thing open. Ordered the fried calamari and the veal parm grinder right off the bat without even looking at the rest of the menu. We were offered bread and readily accepted. The bread meets my expectations of what I have in my head any time I am served bread at an Italian restaurant. It was warm, pre-sliced, and served with a dish of olive oil along with garlic and other spices. It hit the mark. I think it was the best item they served us. The fried calamari did not have enough breading on it. It therefore lacked flavor aside from the marinara sauce you dipped it into. I could not bring myself to eat more than a few and we did not finish the appetizer. The veal veal parm grinder was split between the two of us so we each got half of a whole. That is all you need they are so large in terms of portion sizes. It did not come with any other sides. The sandwich itself consisted of just the veal, mozzarella, and marinara sauce. The mozzarella was goey and stringy, the way good mozzarella is supposed to be. The bread was toasted and crusty so it complemented the soft veal and cheese. Overall it was pretty good. The service was good and understood our quick turnaround. But I don't think I would go back here unless someone else insisted on coming to this restaurant. In all my travels I have yet to find a beef short rib that is as tender and tasty as the one here at Vespucci's. So, while in 2011 I thought the prices were a bit elevated, my disappointment in beef short ribs nationwide has now led me to believe this is in fact a steal. Now that I live in California, I am so disappointed I didn't eat it more while I was still in Connecticut. The menu contains a wide variety of items to satisfy anyone's craving, and every dish is perfectly executed from appetizer through dessert. The dipping oil served with the bread is dangerously tasty; try not to fill up on it while you wait for your meal! Fortunately service is not only friendly but also pretty quick so you won't have long to fill your belly before the salads come out. I upgraded my house salad to the Arugula and was very pleased with the way the citrus complimented the crispy prosciutto. For my meal I had the Grouper Special which, to my delight, came with not regular mashed potatoes but instead mashed SWEET potatoes! The piece of lobster on top was bigger than I anticipated, and the sauce was absolutely delicious. At this point I was pretty stuffed but it seemed necessary to order dessert after how well the rest of the meal was going... I ordered the Triple Chocolate Mousse and was not disappointed. A local favorite and always busy. They even expanded their dining room - a full menu and quite extensive - I was thoroughly underwhelmed. We had not been here in a while primarily do to service and an issue with clams casino served without clams and no one seemed to care. So I was in no hurry to go back but offerred to try again on what was a quiet Monday nite. First, the waitress was very good. Attentive, conversational and happy to make suggestions. Why is it the better restaurants get the bar wine needs to be a good wine, not expensive but good, this was clearly cheap (boxed) wine. bad start. Salad was bland. Some olives, red pepper and one cherry tomato. A vinaigrette that was vinegar with some spices. Bumpy road Delicious bread! The recommended stuffed sole was awful. where was the crab meat ? The chicken was fair - bland. In both cases the spinach was done right. rice side tasted like rice-a-roni. This is our go-to Italian restaurant in the area. It's undergone a lot of changes in the past year, but it's still some of the best food in town. The menu has been revamped (with price increases unfortunately) and just recently, they bought the space next door and underwent a much-needed expansion of the dining room. The food is still very good and surprisingly gourmet for a family restaurant in Cheshire. Over the years, we've pretty much tried the entire menu, but I'll list my family's favorites: Seared scallops are amazing and worth the price. We have to get this every time. Chicken Vespucci, linguine with clams, shrimp scampi, and short ribs are delicious. Fettucini alfredo is some of the best I've had and comes in an enormous order heaped on a giant plate. The specials are usually very good. They frequently offer an osso bucco special that is always great in all its permutations, and I had a really memorable Beef Wellington here one time. Pizza is reliably good, though I wish they used whole clams like Rossini's instead of chopped canned ones. Surprisingly, one of our favorite parts of the meal is the addictive garlic-infused olive oil that comes served with bread when you sit down. Service has been hit-or-miss for us. The servers are always friendly, but when it's busy, the service quality goes down, and we've noticed the kitchen has had a harder time keeping up now that there are more tables to serve. It's packed pretty much every night, especially Friday nights. We like to go on weekend afternoons for the best experience. All in all, great food in a cozy local atmosphere. read more

Came here on a Saturday night, wasn't too crowded and we were seated immediately. Staff was extremely friendly, our waitress Patty was great, she was extremely attentive and brought us everything we asked for in a timely manner. I got chicken Marsala and my friend got the salmon, and we were both extremely happy with our food, my mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy, and they gave me two large pieces of chicken. We got chocolate soufflé for dessert and it was very good, made in house, with vanilla ice cream on the side. We were big fan for a long time but the quality of the food is inconsistent. Everything tastes super salty now and they lack variety. As a result of COVID they do take out only. if that is the only thing they do, they should be great at it.They are NOT. We have gotten the wrong orders several times, items missing or things in the bag that we did not order. When I treat the family to a nice meal, take out entrees, that I am paying dine-in $$ for, I want a quality experience, from the person taking the order, to the way it's packaged to the food being great! When you look forward to sitting down to a good, hot meal and it falls short on various levels...you move on. I come here for the pizza and it's been consistently good. My wife and came a few weeks ago and had a really nice meal with good service. Pretty much on par for every time we've eaten here. We started off with soups which were good. They offered a nice garlic olive oil dipping sauce for the bread. Bonus points for serving Peroni. I went with my favorite type of pizza: Margherita. This is a red version vs white with tomato slices. They did well. Some red versions tend to be over sauced and it ends up making a soggy pizza. Not here. It was sauced nicely and cooked with a slight char. The portion was a good size and I was able to take some home. Service was good. We've had a same server a few times and she's extremely friendly. Our party of five arrived around 6:15 without a reservation. Our mistake. The hostess was very friendly and let us know the wait would be around 45 minutes (it turned out to be about an hour). The vestibule where we waited was VERY cold - some heat would have been welcome. When we were seated, the hostess brought water and bread quickly, but it was a bit of a wait for menus, and another wait before the waitress came to take our order. We asked for separate checks and were told they couldn't do that on a busy night. We sat for 40 minutes (with no water or bread refills...) before the waitress came out to say that our order was in now and would be along in a few minutes (it was about another ten). When we grumbled a bit, she said that it was lucky we hadn't been there earlier when it was more busy, or it would have been "a couple hours" before our meals came. For a while we thought perhaps our waitress had retired in the middle of the shift! The food was acceptable - and nearly correct to what we'd ordered. The Seafood Alfredo was good; the Chicken Limone was okay, but very lemony. We aren't sure if the meals were good enough to wait that long for. read more

Can't say anything about the actual food at Vespucci's, but can only comment on their lousy service. Stopped in the other night, never having been there before, and wanted to order take out for two. Went to the takeout window and asked the young girl for a menu. She said there are none, only the one that is taped to the counter on her side of the takeout window, which I was not able to view. She told me I could go online and see the menu. REALLY, that is how I would find out what they had on their menu. I just laughed and left, knowing I would never be back. So this was the first time I've been back since it was closed for COVID. Omg so amazing. The menu looks new and expanded. Lots of delicious salads. My food was over the top delicious. Right down to the broccoli on the side. Clearly time and expertise went into this food. Broccoli was in a white wine reduction with garlic. I would come back just for the broccoli. My sister and I were returning home from New Hampshire on, coincidentally, Valentine's Day. She suggested we dine at Vespucci's, where she's eaten on multiple occasions, and I was all for trying a place I'd never eaten in before. Upon entering, the hostess greeted us and asked if we had reservations. I thought that an odd question, since it was a Tuesday, and they didn't appear to be very busy. It never dawned on me that it was Valentine's Day. She seated us in a nice booth. Upon first glance at the menu, I immediately noticed a special of baked halibut with lobster sauce and lobster meat, with baby asparagus and mashed sweet potatoes. That sold it! I never even looked at the rest of the menu, except to see what appetizers and soups they offered. My sister had decided to have a small veggie pizza. We had an order of fried calamari that was very lightly breaded, and cooked to perfection, with a nice marinara sauce. I chose a bowl of chicken tortellini soup that had a broth with a lot of flavor, without being too salty, and lots of fresh carrots, celery, and nice chunks of chicken and some tortellini. Excellent soup! When my main dish was served, I was pleasantly surprised by both the large size of the portion of halibut and the sizeable amount of lobster meat as well. I can only describe the perfectly cooked, moist and flaky halibut and accompanying lobster as "heavenly". The asparagus, which I'm not usually a big fan of was both tender, and not woody as can often be the case. I devoured it, along with the halibut and lobster meat. I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes, but sampled them. They were well prepared, with a house made waffle potato chip stuck into the pile that made a very nice presentation. My sister described her "small", 12" pizza as being "delightful". It looked as good as she described, though I was too full to sample it. Service was very prompt, friendly, and professional. I'm really glad my sister suggested Vespucci's, and since it is only a few miles from where I live, I definitely see myself returning. read more

I'm sorry to say that this restaurant keeps getting lower on the totem pole for me. I am only in town two to four times a year and this has been a family favorite for years. We come to visit family. My first or second choice has always been Vespucci. I have to say it's like eating a salt bomb. And the quality of the sauce on the pizza is now2nd bad. I don't know what else to say. We ordered sausage and mushrooms. The sausage was shaved so thin you couldn't taste sausage. It hurts me to leave this review but unless they know what is going on how else can they adjust? The crust isn't as airy as it use to be. Maybe there is a new chef. But last time we were in town we came in to eat and thought the same thing. It will me my last pizza here most likely. Although I have a soft place in my heart for this restaurant. It was my late father in laws favorite. And for a while it was also mine. The portions are always great however. And enough to take some home for lunch the next day. I don't know if that has changed as we only had pizza. My suggestion is to really revise your dishes and taste the food and sauces. Get second opinions on the saltiness and don't skimp. I know food prices have gone up. Maybe it's time for a price increase. read more

I have been a customer for 4 years and the place is just going downhill and not sure why. I used to go often, but it's getting bad. I went awhile ago and disliked my meal and it happened again last night. It took 15 minutes to be greeted after getting seated, salad was soaked in dressing, my penne with vodka sauce was the worst I have ever had anywhere, and my husband and I were there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. A family of 4 sat down 20 minutes after us and left 15 minutes before us, what the heck?! The waitress did not charge me for my meal after I returned it and did not want another. Kudos to her for that great customer service recovery. However, the whole experience was awful and I'm not going back. I really used to like the restaurant and took family there in the past, but unless the food and speed of service changes, I'm not going back. I'm actually upset about it. read more

We, also, ordered a salad with chicken. We were charged for the chicken but didn't receive any. They didn't pack any bread To go with the meals. I used to love this restaurant-primarily because of the incred I left Chicken Gorgonzola dinner! It was unbelievably delicious- sautéed chicken cutlets with a rich, creamy gorgonzola mushroom sauce served with mashed potatoes and green beans! When I went a few nights ago, I couldn't wait for my dinner to be served and was shocked to see a bowl of penne with a cream sauce, some chicken pieces, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach. Surely, I had been served someone else's dinner by accident, but no, my waitress assured me that they ALWAYS served their Chicken Gorgonzola this way. I. Think. Not. I am beyond sorry that no one else will get to have the fabulous Chicken Gorgonzola that Vespucci's used to serve. What is being served now doesn't deserve the same name. The rest of the meal- adequate broccoli rabe and sausage as appetizer. Salad with thin bleu cheese dressing. Prices-not commensurate with quality. Try somewhere else. read more

Let me start by saying Cheshire isn't exactly the culinary capital of CT, in fact I had to actually laugh when another reviewer complained about practically every single item they ordered not being made from scratch (they 'could just tell') and that there was no ranch dressing available for their salad (most Italian restaurants don't have it). I mean honestly. What people on yelp don't understand is that they are reviewing everything about a restaurant which includes atmosphere, price points, parking, service, and more. If you walk into Applebee's and order a steak, its clearly not going to be comparable to a steak from Peter Luger. Apples to oranges, people! Anyways, having said that... Vespucci's is a nice little spot for Italian that's reasonably priced and has a good menu selection. The decor/music is pleasant, the food is tasty and there's decent parking on both the side and in front of the building. I have eaten here many times over the years and have never had a 'bad' experience. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is for the service. At times I have had exceptional service/short wait time and other times I have had a server who either didn't know what they were doing or didn't care and I had to wait and wait and wait. It just doesn't seem consistent to me. But overall, its pretty good for the amount of food you get and if you don't feel like spending the extra money/time to drive to Hartford or New Haven for something a little more authentic then this is a good neighborhood restaurant. I want to give this place more stars but.... Everytime I go here, there is an issue with the service. I keep getting sat with this obnoxious waitress who is very loud and doesn't seem to care what her tip is going to be (bad choice since I wait tables myself PT)...... She let's us sit there and wait..wait..wait....barely offers refills (you have to flag her down) and then when you ask her for anything it is like she is "put out". However, even though this woman drives me crazy and makes the entire experience horrible, there is another waitress who is amazing that works there. I think I should find out her name and only ask for her... word to the wise ;) I think their food is great, pizza is pretty good and filled with toppings. Bread is amazing and I happen to be obsessed with their garlic and EVOO! I have never had a meal here that I did not enjoy. They have a side room they recently expanded to make the entire place bigger and did a nice remodel, it appears this would be good for groups and larger parties.
