On vacation but unfortunately did not have a good experience. Ordered a good amt of food, but half of it was inedible... so not too happy paying close to $90 for this meal. First, we opened the bag and noticed there were no utensils or napkins. Luckily I snagged an extra fork from lunch and we found a pair of chopsticks. Onto the food.. stuffed shrimp with crabmeat -- the bacon was so thick and overcooked I had to rip it apart to get to the shrimp, but something was off about the sauce and whatever vegetable was in there...tasted like bittersquash? Took one bite and moved on. Clams casino was fine..heavy on the bacon but not bad. Two entrees, shrimp and lobster w/ vodka sauce on capellini and meat ravioli.. Meat ravioli -- That was fine, it's more like a cheese ravioli with meat sauce on top and probably the only dish we actually ate all of. Ok now the most expensive dish.. the shrimp and lobster pasta. I started with the shrimp and the pasta and the vodka sauce wasn't too bad but as I ate more of it, I noticed something started to taste really off about this. From a glance it looked fine but as I took a bite of the lobster, there was just no taste whatsoever to the lobster. Interesting.. took another bite and I now get this sour smell coming from it. I got really queasy bc I noticed now that this lobster was not fresh AT all. Peeling it out you can see there's a green tint to the edges so yea.. at the risk of getting food poisoning I threw it away. Not good. Back to the ravioli I guess. This review is for Vesuvio Restaurant Catering, which delivered to Windham area for our wedding. It seemed a bit risky to serve Italian food when marrying into family that loves cooking and traces it's ancestry to Italy, but I need not have been worried. Vesuvio is the real deal, and we got so many compliments on the food. All our friends and both families loved it! The Sicilian Rice Balls, Chicken Marsala, Penne Vigani, in particular, I would eat any day. They went out of their way to help us, and were extremely professional and accommodating, breaking up our order into two deliveries so we could serve rice balls and mushroom caps at the reception, and the rest for dinner. For allergy reasons, we needed some gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free options. Vesuvio did a great job providing us with these options. Crucially, they are an honest small business. It can be hard to judge how much to buy for a wedding. We would have ended up with far too many rice balls and mushroom caps. The restaurant owner was kind enough to let us know when we placed the order, even though it decreased his overall sales. And he was spot on. Rice balls were finished during the reception, but toward the end, with everyone getting enough. Mushroom caps were nearly depleted, but we had some portion of the vegan ones remaining. I believe everyone there loves food, and takes their profession seriously and with pride. Also, you should stop there for dinner. We went a few times with various relatives to get their opinion as we prepped. Both sets of parents loved the food, and I don't think there was an item anyone tried that we wouldn't order again. The food was real good but I am so conflicted here because almost everything else about this restaurant disgusts me. The food looks disgusting but actually tastes great! My ravioli looked like brains and the other pasta dish was soupy. See below. They were tasty as were the apps and salad. The decor is like an old Italian grandmother, a frat boy and a hunter collaborated. The walls have traditional paintings, fluorescent lights, Christmas thistle. There was 5 different paint colors and to make matters worse, the areas around me were for storage of utensils and other plates. Unfortunately, the bathroom seemed to be closer to the frat boy than then old Italian grandmother because it smelled and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. The outside is beautiful and the signage suggests fine dining. Everything about this place is confusing. I wouldn't consider it fine dining....but a family restaurant. Second time we have been to vesuvio in the last month or so, both times were a decent sized party, 6 and 8 and both times we left happy. Excellent service, great food, and the owner comes over and chatted with us after each meal and he even remembered what we ordered last time. They made us feel like part of the family. As for the food, we basically ordered everything on the menu. The pork chops are amazing, they think the spicy is too spicy (they give you a warning or two) but it was delicious, we tried every variation of the lobster (steamed, broiled, and stuffed) all amazing options, calamari, zucchini chips, I mean everything was great, there wasn't a dish where we felt like we could've done without. Great pasta here! We dined here for Christmas dinner and they didn't disappoint. The restaurant is huge and spacious so we felt safe dining indoors. Our two severs were really friendly and have great recommendations. We ordered the rigatoni with sausage, meatballs, and pulled pork, lobster risotto, and the vinegar pork chops with hot peppers. I was skeptical that the rigatoni would be too meaty but it was really tasty. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. The risotto was also cooked and seasoned perfectly and had plenty of lobster chunks in it. The pork chops in vinegar and hot pepper sauce was something new for us and it was amazing. The pork was tender and cooked perfectly while going well with the acidic tomato sauce and nice kick from the hot peppers. We recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the Windham area. read more

We ordered take out . Two entrees, a Caesar salad, and a rice ball. $99. No utensils in bag, no parm cheese . Ordered the Rigatoni /Sunday gravy.. $32. Missing pulled pork, and fresh basil. Sauce was tasty but one small meatball, and a piece of sausage cut into thirds. Should be as advertised , but was not and over priced. Next entree was the Veal Scallopini . Menu says tender veal, artichoke hearts, capers.. veal was a little tough, there were no artichoke hearts and no capers. Came in two different containers both with a little veal and tons of green beans. Very disappointing. It's shame that you drive for take out and don't see what you get until you get home so you can't complain, or get your meal fixed. read more

Our plan was to check out the Chicken Run, but they were closed for spring break. So we did a little google search and found Vesuvio. The wait staff was wonderful. There was only one other couple in there because they had just opened for dinner service. The food was delicious, Well prepared, looked beautiful when it came to the table and it was priced right. Good portion size too. I took home half of my Rigatoni with Sunday gravy which was delicious!!! Some items on the menu were not available because they too were closing for spring break after tonight, but even though we will definitely be back. So in the end, we are kind of glad that the chicken run was closed for spring break. Otherwise we never would've discovered this wonderful Italian restaurant. read more

As a local this is our second most frequently visited family run restaurant. Recipes are authentic Italian, many like my grandmother's. Wonderful to sit at the bar, nosh on retro breadsticks and Italian cheese while being poured a generous glass of red wine. Dishes like escarole and beans or stacked grilled eggplant with a generous portion of homemade sauce and mozzarella make great simple comfort foods that are easy meals during cold winter evenings. We all enjoyed our meal which was the french onion soup; rigatoni pasta that comes with pulled pork, sausage and meatballs; chicken bolognese; and pork with mushroom and risotto. Sorry but any restaurant that doesn't realize their own front door is this filthy makes me question it from the get-go. This establishment looks super old-school, which in most cases I can appreciate, but when even a basic penne w/ tomato sauce is not even good, at a price of $21, you know it won't get better from here. This is a nice place to sit and have dinner; there was a piano player on the night we were there, and the dining room is pleasant. But the bread was so stale it crumbled when we tried to butter it. My companion's glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been open for days. What did us in, though, was a $14.95 charge for a side of pasta. Neither of our entrees came with any starch (both were over $20), so I ordered a side of linguine. We were stunned to see that we had been charged $14.95 for a "half order" of linguine marinara--something not even on the menu. $90 for two drinks, two entrees, and a side order of spaghetti. Ridiculous. It's a bad faith enterprise to charge such an exorbitant amount for a small dish of pasta. There's plenty of competition at better prices. We will not go back. read more

One word: sheeeeeshhhhh. Clams Cassino. Repeat those two words 1,000 times in your head and make sure that you don't forget to order it the next, or first, time you come to Vesuvio. Now that you have your appetizer out of the way, order yourself a glass of their red wine. Vesuivo has a very detailed and very good wine list. From the Opus to the Brunello, someone here knows exactly what he/she is doing. But, even better, their wines by the glass are also, equally as detailed, and very good wines. I had the Sangiovese which is smoother than your average Malbecs. It was great until someone in our group ordered the house Cab. That particular Cab was actually smoother than my Sangiovese. Another person in our party ordered the White Merlot, which was awesome but a tad too smooth for my taste. Although, if you like Moscatos, Pinot Grigios, and, apple juice -_-, then you may love the White Merlot, which is more of a red/rose color. Our entrees were all very hefty portions worth their price in weight, and equally delicious. The chef came out to check on us and personally offer us some cheese, and/or, red-hot pepper. It was almost at the very moment that I was thinking how i would love to try the same. Great service. I love a place where any waiter can help us and get us what we need. I also love a place that replenishes your used utensils rather than placing them back in front of you for reuse... The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable of how every dish tasted. Their recommendations were fantastic. Nice, cozy, yet classic atmosphere. From the dapper pianist to the bartenders, waitstaff, and cute little fireplace. The lighting was perfect, the sounds were carefully curated and the staff is one of the most well-trained staff's that I have come across in some months. Vesuvio is a classic piece of traditional Italian delicacies hidden in the folk lands of one of the America's oldest modern states. We order the special of the night which was ravioli with ribs and a cod with seafood. Very light and flavory. The reason they don't get more than 3 star is because I found the bread plate was dirty. Located right next to the dog friendly motel, this place was exactly what I needed. Unbeknownst to them, I was coming from my Grandfather's funeral with my dog on way further upstate NY for a little mini break. I had the zucchini sticks, eggplant stack with spaghetti, and a cannoli. Man oh man, everything was delicious and they were super sweet to my dog. I got her chicken breast and they diced it up small for her. I was not a fan of a recent dinner I had with a friend of mine at the bar. if not for the bartender accomodating everyone in the place, including folks not sitting at the bar, it would have been a horribe experience for everyone at the restaurant. Lots of servers standing around doing nothing while one young lady had to run the whole show. if anyone is looking for a tremendously thoughtful and hard working individual, hire her. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. Have eaten here before so was not expecting a gourmet meal, but this was subpar. I had the bolognese. I was not aware that it was a soup. It was awful. Nothing clinged to the pasta. Just a bowl of flavorless red glop with a few pieces of meat floating in it. My friend had cheese raviolis. Not bad but nowhere on the menu did it say a molten lump of cheese would be melted on top of raviolis that were already filled with cheese. Weird. I hope they get their act together as the place was always a good place to go for a solid, if not spectacular, meal. not many places in area to choose from so i hope they work out the problems. i was told new owners but no changes. not sure that is possible but I wish them luck in working out the kinks. read more

We went to Vesuvio after visiting the Windham area on a whim and boy are we happy we did. The food was great, there was a wide selection of drinks, and the service was fantastic. We are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic as I write this, but everybody at Vesuvio did a great job making sure everyone was safe and everything was clean. I got the rigatoni with Sunday sauce and my wife got the ossobuco with risotto, which were both tremendous. Lindsey was a great server and we can't wait to be back soon. read more

We had a family reunion in the Catskills and had dinner catered by Vesuvio's for a group of 27 people. The owner was very pleasant to work with and gave suggestions for our Saturday night dinner. We ordered a tray of Ceasar Salad, Rigatoni, Chicken with eggplant/bolognese sauce. All the dishes were excellent and well prepared. The sauce was delicious. A tray of homemade tiramisu made for a great ending to our meal. I did notice that my MIL had 2-3 plates of food - Vesuvio's passed her tough culinary requirements! read more

While the decor was great, the service was terrible. It was thanksgiving and busy but if you cannot provide even half decent service you should not take customers. Getting food without plates, no one taking our order for 15 minutes post seating. No salt or pepper, no offer to bring cheese for our dishes when they came. We had to chase down staff to get anything. Even water wasn't served till 10 minutes after seating and before we could say hello the servers used to disappear. Will not be visiting again! read more
