I adore this store. I do agree they are pricey on certain things. I have found some incredible bargains here though. When they have half off sales you can't beat it. There are some things that are steals and some are way overpriced. Not sure how they come up with their pricing. It is well organized and the workers are friendly. Great store! It's huge and there's a big parking lot in front. They had so many great designer brands a lot of the items were only $1.95 I don't think I paid more than $3.95 for anything here and I walked out with an arm-full of stuff! I'll be returning next time I'm in the area! read more

This is my second favorite thrift store in San Diego. The enviroment is a little more lax, which i like, however the prices are often times pretty crazy. My biggest complain is that they NEVER have sales. Pretty much all other thrift stores, to get rid of junk that has sat around for weeks rotate their sales so that a certain color tag goes on sale 2 weeks after it has been put on the rack. I see some items in this thrift store that have been here for over a year. read more

Pretty huge selection of everything! They have clothes, furniture, shoes, name it, they have it! It's a pretty big thrift store so you can definitely find what ever it is you may need. Pricing is not bad compared going to Goodwill. read more

Big thrift store with mostly clothes. I come here for the craft supplies. There is always a full selection of craft stuff. A whole vintage section for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Mostly ugly polyester loud print shirts and suits from the 60's 70's. Definately a good place to find a halloween costume. They dont offer discounts and some of their stuff can be expensive. read more

I had gone through my home and had taken some valuables out for a donation or items and a check for $500. When the driver arrived on the scheduled date he decided he could not take one of the items which was a small recliner. So he left it all and call to inform me that I would need to reschedule a pick up. So I called and they said they couldn't return for 9 days. I did all this before my scheduled surgery know that I could lift for a few weeks after. They left me high and dry with a driveway of a nice set of Taylor Made golf clubs. A brand new rug. New bedding and then a lot of regular used items. I couldn't have it out in my drive for another 9 days so I had to call a friend to come pick it up, rent a truck and drop it off at Goodwill. It was a major inconvenience for me. I tried to help but was left out to dry. You might consider donating to Wounded Warriors or Goodwill instead. read more

I will never shop here again. All vintage items are $35 with holes and stains!! The one item I found ( had a stain) was double tagged with two different prices. She demanded the higher price all the while smirking. Bad customer service. I doubt those few dollars are worth losing a loyal customer! I've never left a place so heated. read more

I have not been to the store, but if you want to donate something, they're great. Every few months I pile up a bunch of things I want to donate and give DAV a call. They're fantastic and will take things that other places (Amvets, Goodwill, etc) won't. They'll even accept some items that need to be repaired and do the repairs themselves. They won't take metal desks, but they even accepted a really old sailboard (windsurfer) that Amvets could not handle because their truck was too small. As a bit of a backstory, I won't donate to the Salvation Army because despite all of their donations, if you are helping with a cause such as sandbagging a river that will soon flood the area, they may show up with donuts and coffee, but they don't give them to you; they sell them. Therefore I donated to Amvets before knowing about DAV. On my last occasion, I gave them quite a bit of furniture, clothing, etc. and they didn't bother to give me a tax receipt. When I called to ask for one I was treated rudely and was told that I had to drive to their office/store to get one. Never again. Thanks, DAV. You are a worthy cause that will continue to get my things whenever I decide to clean up. read more

it's very rare that i find myself so far inland or south in san diego county, and it's very rare that i find a thrift store i get really excited about. perhaps it was fate that brought us together for the first (but not last) time yesterday. a very good sized thrift store with okay prices if you search hard enough. the moment of "a-ha!" goodness for me was finding the entire rack devoted to polyester and days of yore. true, the sizes were generally large and larger, but with a handy sewing machine, you could whip up a pretty good wardrobe. (if you're into multi-colored polyester.) lots of potential halloween costumes to be had here as well. read more

Nothing excites me more than finding a huge ass thrift store! I was on the hunt for some specific items, but was a bit disappointed as this particular thrift store has mainly clothing. There were a few sofas and other furniture, in addition to knick knacks, but mainly there were a ton of clothes. I'll be back to check out all that, but for now Im on the hunt for other items. read more

Pretty good place for clothes, it was very cheap before, now they raise the prices but the clothes get better. They even have some famous brands here, just look into it. I bought a Christian Dior here for 1 buck, pretty nice deal. But sometimes the prices are just not reasonable, a dress or a top from Forever 21 or H&M doesn't cause 15 bucks at such place. They should keep an eye on this issue, those brands don't cause that much but they still make them more than 15 bucks or even 20. read more

Well organized thrift store, with lots of vintage knick knacks and old great-grandma linens, and stuff that looks like it came out of dead old folks attics. They have a lot of holiday seasonal decor items as well, especially Christmas decorations. Friendly staff. I like that they have a whole aisle of maternity clothes. Good selection of women's clothes, but it is too overpriced. And the baby and kids clothes are way too overpriced! They rarely have sales. So I would give it 4 stars but since the clothes are too overpriced, they get 3 stars. read more

I come here from time to time for awesome finds. At most thrift stores you have to take your time looking through everything, that's part of the fun if you're frugal and creative. This one is huge and has some pretty cool stuff, even some brand new things still with tags. My most recent find: a like-new Tickle Me Elmo circa 1997. It was scruffy, it had scratches on the pupils, and a marker splotch on the foot. I surface washed with Oxy Clean and isopropyl alcohol, trimmed loose threads, filled the scratches with a black Sharpie, and replaced the batteries in the little speaker. It works! Voila! He's new again! My daughter is a huge fan (17 m.o.), and she's smitten with it. I also bought a few snow jackets and hoodies for a cold trip I'm going on this winter... for pretty much nothin'. I'd rather drop big money on my anniversary or a great massage. I'm grateful for thrift stores. This one is more than adequate, I recommend it. If you're a label whore have no fear: there are vintage and brand names too. read more

This thrift store is a hit and miss, sometimes they have good stuff but it's overpriced, sometimes you'll find great stuff and its underpriced or just right, and sometimes you wont find a thing. I've been going here since I was in high school and it seems to stay on my list of where to go when I feel like a hunt, but honestly I wish they would dock their prices and have more sales. OH and gees la wees you definitely don't want a rundown coach purse from there, for some reason they think its gods line of bags and price them so high... you know you can get a fully restored coach bag for like 12 bucks. lame. read more

I would call myself a savvy person. I go thrifting a lot. Like A LOT. I love saving money! With that being said, DAV thrift store is my all time favorite thrift store in San Diego. The prices are amazing and you get a discount if you have a military ID. They have so many things to choose from and literally a million clothes that are in amazing shape. They have a great furniture selection and their prices are ridiculous (so cheap!) this store has saved me and my family loads $$$ thanks DAV! And thank you for helping our VETS! I tend to thrift shop a lot, especially when I'm looking for ideas/things for my art, photography or to add to costume pieces for parties or events. I always seem to find what I need at a reasonable price. I have been to some thrift stores where the "thrift store" prices are just as pricey as going to some name brand store in the mall. I love finding random things that spark my interest. The staff is always friendly with me when I am there, so that really makes a difference to me. I like how huge the parking lot is, so that parking is not really an issue. read more

Very quiet, very clean thrift store (a complete 180 from the AMVETS store off Cardiff). I can take a breath of fresh air here and not feel like my allergies are gonna drive me crazy from the dust. I found a cute top from one of my favorite brands (Sweet Pea) but that was about it. It doesn't seem like they have many/any sales on their stuff and it would def help if they did... then maybe that would keep me coming back to check out new inventory. read more

Bought a 1996 Plymouth Voyager from DAV for a very good price. Nice and professional people in their office operation that sells the vehicles. All paper work for the transaction was given to me to take to the dmv and it all went very smooth. Best part is they're helping Veterans right here in San Diego! The Thrift store itself is big with a good selection of items. Staff was nice and helpful. read more

Rudest customer service I've ever had! I was shopping here, found what I needed. No one was in line so I approached the counter. I looked to the cashier to ask where I should go, but she was busy talking to her coworker, so I waited. The cashier continued to talk over my head to her coworker completely ignoring me. I thought 'this is odd' until I heard her refer to a customer as "grosera" (rude in Spanish). I was wondering if she was talking about me, since I'm white, people don't expect me to understand Spanish, and she was continuing to ignore me. Another customer came up on the other side of the counter, and she immediately helped her. The coworker she was previously talking to came to the counter and started talking to his friend over the counter. After a couple awkward minutes, he asked if I needed help. I said "I would like to buy this when someone has a chance." He says "What?!", and I repeated myself. He tells me that the line starts over there and points to a sign like 15 feet away facing the other direction (where no one is in line). The cashier then turns around, and with attitude, says "OR you can just (whistles and gestures to move around the counter) then rolls her eyes. If it wasn't for the fact I found exactly what I needed I would have left then. Never shopping here again. There's a much bigger thrift store up the hill anyway. read more

This thrift store is located in a kind of rundown section of Spring Valley but I felt safe going here. Very busy store. There is a big parking lot out in front and there is also a taco shop, recycling center, liquor store and a Foster Freeze. The thrift store is large and spacious and fairly well organized, with clothes on one side and a separate area for the furniture. Some reviews have said the employees are not friendly but I am there for the prices. I don't care about the workers as long as they aren't rude or giving me attitude. Bring someone with military ID and get 20% off. What I also like about shopping here is being able to put my money towards helping disabled veterans. Will return again. read more
