It's hard to know where to start. Our cat, Snarf, was 16 1/2 years old and had some health problems, but nothing out of the ordinary. He had some kidney issues but normal for a 16 1/2 year old cat. We took him to our regular vet on 10/20 and had some tests done. On 10/21 they came back with extremely elevated glucose, and our vet suggested we start a treatment that we committed to and an appointment was made for the following Monday. Two days later on Wednesday is where the nightmare began. By Friday 10/24 he was demonstrably weaker, and our vet had no space in the schedule to see him (which proved to be a Godsend). We took him to VEG Oro Valley and immediately the supervising vet and staff members descended on him as a group and started triage and testing with equipment not available at a typical vets office, and results were coming in within minutes. Once the testing and imaging were progressing Dr. Bettencourt was assigned to our case. Snarf was very ill. He had Diabetic Ketoacidosis, and the prognosis was not good on any level. We asked Dr. Bettencourt for an honest assessment and the 2 options were either a long, involved, and painful treatment that had no guarantee of success or return with any quality of life, or to let him transition with compassion, dignity, grace and without any further suffering. We were in shock, but her words were spoken honestly and with authority, empathy, and compassion. The rest of the staff, especially Sabrina who led most of the triage and initial testing were fantastic. We were with Snarf the entire time from start to end we never once left his side. We were then given a private room to spend time with Snarf - given all the time we needed - and when we and he were ready, he transitioned without any pain. We will never forget Snarf, who was the glue of our family, and we'll never forget the care and attention he received at the end of his life by the staff at VEG and as led by Dr. Bettencourt - all an amazing group of individuals dedicated to helping us and our companions in what are some of their darkest hours. Our dog was attacked by several coyotes and needed emergency surgery, which VEG performed. We have since experienced multiple issues that have resulted in our dog experiencing unnecessary pain and suffering and requiring another major surgery to fix their medical mistakes. Several of her staples were backwards and extremely painful to remove. They did not remove 2 sets of sutures, saying they were dissolvable at 2 different follow up visits until finally admitting that they were not the dissolvable kind and cutting her skin in an effort to remove them after 3 weeks. She had a bulge in her abdomen following the surgery and a month later she was in pain and vomiting, so we took her back to get her checked. It turns out that bulge was an intestinal hernia, which the vet said was likely due to an issue with the original sutures, and told us it would be 7-10k for another surgery to fix an issue that they caused. They pressured us into keeping her there, saying that they couldn't tell us how urgent the situation was. We ended up taking her to another vet for the surgery and they charged us 3k. They said they had to do a lot of clean up on the original surgery and that she shouldn't have even had staples instead of sutures. The cause of the hernia was likely a puncture wound that was missed entirely in the first procedure, and now we have to get lab work done to make sure she doesn't have a bacterial infection from the untreated puncture wound. We saw multiple vets at VEG who missed multiple issues with our dog and tried to charge us $10,000 to fix a problem that they themselves admitted was likely caused by their surgical intervention. This led to our dog experiencing a potentially life threatening complication and having to undergo 2 invasive surgeries in one month. Their incompetence almost cost our dog her life, and cost us thousands of dollars in vet bills. read more

I ended up needing to take my Sapphire to be seen, when walking up to the doors, I was immediately greeted, my sapphire, and I had to stay there overnight due to her complications, I told them that I would need to leave so I could go gather a few things and I would be back. When I came back, they had a private room set up, and when I say set up, I mean they had a bed fully prepared for me, they had an overnight basket made for me that had a toothbrush and face wipes, and snacks, During the stay We made it through three different shifts, diring those shifts we had Dr. Drizin, Dr. Darwin, and Dr. Cohen. Our nurses were Mariah, Phoenix, and Jess. The receptionists were Erica and Maddie. Not to mention the other doctors and nurses that were walking around periodically checking in. The entire staff during our stay is something I will never ever ever forget! The genuine compassion and care that I felt from each individual staff member for myself and my sweet Sapphire, was just remarkable! Everything was thoroughly explained to me, I never felt like I asked a stupid question because they made me feel like every question I had was completely validated. I never once felt like I needed to leave to get better care somewhere else. At the end, there was nothing more that could be done for my sweet girl and so we had to make the most heartbreaking decision and send our baby girl over the rainbow. They showed extreme compassion, gave us plenty of space while also feeling supported. I would highly recommend VEG, the experience could not have been better under the heartbreaking circumstances. read more

I can't say enough great things about this group of skillful vets and nurses. Our 10 pound King Charles cavalier got into a 36 ounce bag of semi sweet dark chocolate when we were at a soccer game. When I found the bag and she began to vomit we ran her to skyline animal clini who pointed us to VEG on Oracle. We rushed her in and the nurses and Vets got right on it. It's an open concept clinic so all procedures are done out in the open. We were with Sundae as her stomach was pumped, watching 2 lbs of liquid chocolate pour out of her tiny frame. They calmly walked me and my 6 year old daughter through every procedure. The vet didn't sugar coat it, we were prepared to say good bye since poison control said this was the largest chocolate poisoning case they had seen in a dog her size. They didn't know if her heart could handle it. her heart rate got up to 240 and with a mix of beta blockers, potassium and an iv drip for 36 hours they were able to stabilize her. The original quote for 72 hours was 8k, my ranch raised husband heard that and said its time say goodbye. When I relied that response to the vet she said lets work on getting her out of her within 24 hours. The quote was scaled back to 3500-4000. At 24 hours it was clear we had to keep her on the IVs longer. The entire stay ran us 6000 which is so much money but they saved our girl against ALL odds. My 6 year old and I sat with Sundae the first 8 hours, if we had asked to we could have slept there. They brought my daughter an iPad (oh man was that exciting since she rarely gets a tablet!!) and a sack lunch. There's free coffee and a custom soda water machine - they offered my daughter hot chocolate when we were at the height of the anxiety with sundae collapsing after the stomach pumping and that helped my daughter settle in for a long day with our pup. We went to VEG over a year ago and were very happy with the service. With that being said, Today we took our Senior dog there for a swollen lower neck and breathing issues. We felt the staff was insensitive and mechanical. They gave our dog an injection to calm her, as well for pain, but they couldn't find a vein and kept probing in 3 different locations while my dog was yelping in agony. They finally gave up and stuck her shoulder blade, which they could have done in the first place, Our dog was traumatized after that and couldn't regain her breathing, and began shaking uncontrollably. They took x-rays brought her back and brought her back traumatized even more. $950.00 later they couldn't give us a clear answer. They had 10 different possibilities and said she needed blood work. Gave us prices $1,000 to do it there, or $550 to bring it to the labs. While all this was happening our dog was worse off than when we brought her in. To add insult to injury, they charged me another $99 for amoxicillin. $1,000 later we got no answers and our dog was traumatized. That was at 10am in the morning. 4 hours there, $1000 later no answers. It's 6pm and our dog is still shaking from the experience. We'll never be going back to VEG. So sad and disappointing. read more

This group is God sent. Compassionate, caring, competent. We have taken several of our babies here without hesitation. So thankful for all of them. You never have to leave your baby's side throughout the whole experience. They even have a couple of sleep rooms to stay overnight with your pet if hospitalization is necessary. Well this last visit to VEG will be our last. We had a prior less than satisfactory experience with this location despite positive experiences at other locations, so we gave it another try, however on our recent visit the quality of care was unacceptable. We had a rescue dog who was not eating well and was showing some pretty significant signs of illness (pale tongue, labored breathing etc). Due to the level of concern we decided to visit VEG rather than wait for an opening at our regular clinic. They conducted diagnostics (xrays and labs) and despite mentioning some concerns about the lungs they did not pursue it and only administered Cerenia sent the foster and dog home with an appetite stimulant. Two days later the dog had not improved at all (and was actually worsening) so our regular vet fit her in and diagnosed her with pneumonia. As a result we lost 2 days of treatment which could potentially have resulted in a loss of life. Our regular vet treated quickly and aggressively and the dog has started to turn around but VEG dropped the ball in this situation. read more

I brought my dog here Saturday when she presented with sudden paralysis in the back legs. It was traumatic, and the staff was very kind. I was there for a very long time, there were other emergencies that happened. They did a bunch of x-rays, they could not see what was wrong with her. Eventually I was sent home with a lot of pain meds and to follow up with my vet on Monday. I was given the option to leave her there, but it was far too expensive. My dog took a turn for the worse Saturday night, and then Sunday I brought her back again. I met with the same veterinarian, she was very kind. She got ahold of a neurologist in Phoenix and they discussed the case. I was told it would be around $8000-$10,000 for an MRI which was out of the question. While I waited, they hooked her up to an IV at my request because she was dehydrated. The neurologist said that her symptoms was likely due to a lesion on her spinal cord in her neck. I was sent home with additional meds and different instructions to keep her comfortable. My bill was not as expense on Sunday, since I was there on Saturday. Being an emergency vet, they do charge more for everything. They also do not cover costs in great detail. Some of the drugs they want to send me home with I could've gotten for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. Which I did decide to do. They're there to help the animals, not there to help your wallet. It can feel like price gouging, but that's emergency care for you. I wound up finding an MRI place l in town that charged 3500 and it turns out she has a very aggressive tumor in her spine as they thought. I'm very grateful to the veterinarian who did all the research, she was very thorough and caring and she went the extra mile. It's hard to write a review for a place involving emotions running high, but they helped me get through the weekend until I could see my vet. read more

Hugest ever shoutout to the new vet ER @ ina and Oracle (VEG).... First of all it's so much closer to Oro valley than the one on La Cañada... and since my beautiful boy only has ended up in the puppy er in the middle of the night, that's important! My precious puppyboy got into some chocolate somewhere around 11pm last night. By "some chocolate" I'm guessing somewhere in the ballpark of a dozen chocolate cupcakes bc one of my kids left the kitchen gate open as cupcakes were cooling on the counter... But I had just taken my ambien, and it had been way too long to successfully throw it up.... I called VEG and in spite of a good natured giggle (totally deserved) when i explained the situation, they had me call puppy poison control immediately... obviously I was terrified when they said yeah that's a LOT, you gotta go NOW.... So I loaded the pup into the car, then my new driving teenager loaded me into the car .... My son is definitely the unsung hero of the night. The doctors and staff were literally soooOOOOO wonderful to not only my boy, but to my sleepy self as well I work in healthcare so I know to expected the unexpected, but I've never had anybody show up for an exam after ambien again I got a little good natured ribbing about what had happened, but it had me cracking up... they graciously allowed me to step out of the room and zonk out for a little snooze in the lobby while they had him barfing his guts up, poor little dude. My guy is an anxious little (big) doggo and had a really hard time when he got a river toad last summer, and we did this back and forth of having him admitted and then going back home (at the *other* hospital)... but the docs recognized immediately that he was a little high strung and that he would probably do better at home resting comfortably instead of a costly admission where he would be stressed, and I appreciate them putting his needs first. They gave me SUPER CLEAR (and printed - bc let's be honest I had to re read them every hour waking up to check on him overnight) directions about how to care for him and what would constitute an emergency worth bringing him back for further attention. Puppyboy is home and resting comfortably, though he looks like he's really been through it, poor babe... but he's gonna make it thank heavens! There's just nothing like having a 55-60 lb dog thinking he's a lapdog on the entire ride home. Really proud of my kiddo for being such a good sport and coming through in a clutch! Love both of my boys (2 and 4 legged ones) so much. My experience was great. Yes it was expensive and yes it was a very busy early evening when I went in with my dog, so the wait was, well it was a wait. But ultimately, they fixed him up with incredible care, giving him antibiotics and fluids almost on arrival, until the doctor could see him. I would not hesitate to recommend the place. I brought my sweet orange cat yesterday in while she was having a medical emergency. When I arrived I was rushed straight in as my cat was pulseless, Dr. Vossler and her team started CPR on my cat and they managed to regain her pulse and helped her stay with us until my mom was able to show up after I told them I couldn't do this alone, Hannah told me that if it happened before my mom arrived she would be right by my side. They did everything they could and discussed my options with me, the entire team was so incredibly compassionate and kind through this. Hannah stayed by my side until we made the decision to euthanize my cat as she was not likely to pull through. After the devastating decision, Hannah came and got my cat from me for paw printing, she returned with paw prints and a little nose print of her. She helped me so so much that day. Huge thank you to the team for helping my kitty and me through this awful turn of events and their understanding as I was so distraught. I am revising my review because I suspect that in my previous review, I was overreacting due to my own stress. Last Friday night, I ended up rescuing a 3-week-old kitten. At the time, all I knew was theoretical information on neonates, and I wasn't even comfortable assuming the role of a bottle-baby kitten mom. The little guy was not latching to the bottle and had not pooped for over 36 hours. I took him in. He was fitted with a new nipple for syring feeding, and I was told that he probably didn't have enough in his stomach to poop. Twelve hours passed, and he drank KMR well, but still no poop, and since the poop issue was not disguised much, I felt helpless and irritated. I wrote a review that mostly expressed my irritation with the VEG establishment and its setup, but the doctor took it personally. Likely, I was also too harsh and reacted more to my own panic. I took my kitten in again the next day. This time, I met with another doctor who had neonatal kitten rescue experience and extensive knowledge about their care. She guided me as to how to facilitate pooping, administered dewormer, and gave me a lot of tips and tricks for bottle baby kitten care, including proper food transition and much more. As of revising this review, two days have passed, and my kitten seems OK. So, I thank the two veterinarians who treated my Kitten on Sunday and Monday. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this veterinary ER. I've never seen better veterinary care. They work very hard to make a difficult, stressful situation as pleasant as possible. The staff is professional and compassionate and the best thing about the hospital, but it has other virtues. I appreciated the open floor plan, which means you're not shut away in some little examination room but instead connected to what's going on throughout the hospital--I was surprised at how calming and reassuring I found that. It's clean and bright and easy to get to. The only possible criticism I could make is that it's not cheap, but hey. Sometimes you get what you pay for. That said, I had to bring each of my dogs on consecutive days, and the staff worked hard to come up with approaches to diagnosis and treatment that weren't so onerous for me. You can feel confident that your beloved companion will get excellent care here. read more

Very thankful for VEG in the middle of the night last night. You all took great care of our boy and unfortunately while we were there, someone else had lost their fur baby. Despite the outcome not being what I had hoped, I would highly recommend this practice. My elderly dog woke up in pain, he was off his food and in obvious discomfort. From the time we walked in to when I left, they were extremely professional and compassionate. It's been almost a year since I had to be here but im finally feeling better talking about my experience. The staff here are the most wonderful kind souls. It takes someone special to do what they do. I took my wonderful mastiff here one night. She had to stay overnight and just the setup this hospital has helps pet parents through this whole painful journey. You have an option to stay in a room if needed if you're wanting to spend the night there to keep your animal company. The rooms have a couch that turns into a bed. You also can just stay there as long as you want. I sat in my dogs kennel for a few hours and this staff was nothing but accommodating and was willing to work around me. My visit here didn't have the happiest ending but I am forever grateful for the staff. I wish more er vets were like them. The one thing I wish is the company they use for the cremation I just wish they didn't put the date of cremation. It may be for legal purposes but that one was a hard one to cope with. I don't really know how to express how amazing this place is, but I'm going to try! Our girl Simba had a very scary injury that became terribly infected. We were able to walk right in and see Dr. Gordon. Zoe helped us the entire time as well as a ton of other staffs. From asking if we are ok, to getting down on the floor, treating Simba like their own. .. I am just overwhelmingly grateful for the staff. We returned two days later because the skin covering her injury was just too far gone to provide for healthy healing. Dr. Cochran stepped in along with Zoe! And they took wonderful care of our girl. Today I wasn't paying attention to names because I was busy holding Simba's head to distract her. The doctor today was so wonderful too! She spoke to us about how to proceed, explained what we could expect as we continued to care for Simba. This time was to change the dressing. We never had to leave her side. We felt like we were in our own living room. Their model of encouraging owners to stay by their pets side was exactly what we needed. I was so stressed, but felt like she was in the very best hands. My dog and I had our first experience with VEG yesterday. Be aware: this place is Expensive! But, any Emergency hospital is expensive, and the real difference is that at VEG they do everything possible to make it worth the money. I was greeted at the door, and immediately a very friendly person took all the information and put me and my dog in a comfortable private room. My dog is wary of strangers and fearful, which I explained to them. Everyone on the staff who had interactions with us was impeccably kind, understanding, and compassionate with my dog. They took the extra time to offer techniques and solutions to help him to be less afraid and spoke to him to soothe him. This helped my dog immensely, and eased my own stress as well. Although I waited some time due to there being only one vet on site when I arrived, someone checked in with us regularly to see if we needed anything, so the wait was not unpleasant. The facility is very clean and the staff professional and efficient. Everything was explained to me, all my questions answered, and I never felt rushed. My dog had time to relax a bit and ultimately even wagged at the techs and allowed them to pet him. By the time we left I felt entirely confident that I understood the medical situation with my dog, and that everything that needed to be done had been done, and done well. The very best thing about this place is that they let you stay with your pet the entire time, even while a procedure is being done. My being able to hold him and talk to him made a huge difference to both of us. I've never had such a positive experience at an emergency vet hospital. You get 5-star treatment there, both for your pet and for yourself. I will, in the future, not even consider going to any other emergency vet facility in Tucson. Dr. Bundi Wilde was the most amazing doctor we could've received. She was kind, patient, thorough and fast. She listened to everything I was saying, explaining everything and was very gentle. This was the first vet visit where my very anxious dog didn't completely freak out. She was recently traumatized from another vet clinic and this was just the most amazing place that could've taken care of her. They found corneal ulcers in her eyes that the other vets missed/wouldn't give me any help when calling back, they told me it wasn't their fault and there's nothing they can do and they were very dismissive. Everyone here was so accommodative, respectful and kind mannered. I will definitely be taking her here for any other emergencies. They did an outstanding job and you can tell they really care for the animals as well as the owners. I am beyond happy and impressed with VEG! Thank you guys for all your help! read more
