I agree with other comments that these employees do not care about your pet! They advertise that they are 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But twice now, I've taken my pet there only to be turned away. I took my pet there on Saturday. the facility was locked and dark. I called the number on the door only to be told that they had no Vet there until 9 am the next morning. And she preceded to tell me that the only available emergency pet facility was miles way and another in Toledo. As I tried to explain the issue with my pet was experiencing to get some advise on making him more comfortable, the lady on the phone simply hung up the phone on me. I was very happy with the service I received here. My dog was breathing strange when I got back from work and it turned out to be pneumonia. We arrive at 9:30 at night and we're seen within 30 mins. I really liked the front desk staff I had that night. She explained everything very well. The doctor was pleasant and not arrogant which made a change from the usual. The original plan of action was to keep our dog there overnight to monitor him but estimated at $1800-$2200 we just couldn't do that. They understood and found a different route for us. Emergency vets are always going to break the bank - which sucked - but at least I go to deal with pleasant people. I gave 4 stars because I think the building needs a bit of a facelift. I hate this place ! Very unprofessional and rude I don't even know the doctor name because he didn't even introduce himself. One of my worst nights. they didn't even know what's wrong with my dog. All they gave my dog was bunch of pills so he can be OK for few days. Was there last than 40 mins service was horrible and looked at my dog so quick. The vets and support staff are the best. We have been to VES three times. Cinco the cat had two urinary blockages, both on Sundays. The first time, he would have died without immediate help. Thank heavens these wonderful professionals were there for him. Then another cat Pepper had an eye infection. Again we noticed it on Sunday. These vets are the best. Their motto: "When the patient is special and the condition is critical" should be changed to "If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The VES." Story #1: I found my cat darting around the house, freaking out and foaming at the mouth. I managed to grab her, throw her in a carrier, and scour the phonebook (in the days before comprehensive online resources) to find an emergency vet. I found this place, and, fearing the worst, drove here to find out if the cat was poisoned or had rabies. They brought me into a room immediately after I agreed to the exam fee ($~50). My cat was much calmer, but still had foam all around her mouth. The vet asked a few questions, looked my cat over, then stuck his finger in her mouth foam and then SNIFFED it. He laughed, then made me sniff it- it was minty. My cat had eaten a large quantity of toothpaste and then lost her f*cking mind. Sure, I spent $75 just to sniff a vets finger, but it was money well spent to calm me down and ensure that my pet wasn't going to go all Cujo on me. Story #2: My dog was attacked by another dog when we were out in the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Park on the west side of the state. Her shoulder had a massive laceration and wouldn't stop bleeding. I cut my trip short, drove 4 hours back, and came here. Agreed to the exam fee ($75), got in almost right away. The vet that saw us was a quirky prick, dragging my nervous dog forward by her Halti (strap around the nose, but not a muzzle). He acted like he was terrified of her, which seems bizarre for someone that deals with injured animals on a daily basis. After his diagnosis, they presented me with the cost to stitch her up ($555), I paid, and a much more personable and pleasant assistant took her away. I picked up Frankendog (see picture) after about an hour and a half. All stitched up, happy to see me- however, on the way out, two other dogs were in the lobby and they flipped out when they saw my dog. I'd love it if this place had a differently arranged lobby, so I wouldn't have to worry about ANOTHER dog fight after my dog just got stitched up from a previous one. Pros: -extremely fast service -no nonsense -open 24/7, 365 -badass vets that aren't afraid to stick their finger near the mouth of an animal that could potentially have rabies Cons: -variable up front exam fees for what seems like no reason -shitty lobby that drops your pet out in the middle of a room full of sick/injured/dying animals and their stressed out owners - quirky vets with strange mannerisms stress out your pet even more than a deep, open laceration does All in all, this is the only place I will take a pet in an emergency situation. They provide an invaluable service in times of need; whether its 2am and your cat is foaming at the mouth and climbing walls or it's Labor Day and your dog is bleeding all over the back seat of your car, they're there and ready to charge you through the nose. Be aware that there are NO PAYMENT PLANS- all money due is due at the time service is rendered. However, they do accept CareCredit, so if you know you have a situation that's going to cost some serious bank, you can open an account pronto before arriving (most newly opened accounts are $0 interest, although you can open longer pay term accounts for about 14%) read more

Was told my dog had intestinal blockage and would require surgery, was never shown X-rays by anyone and no explanation or further information was given except we can take your dog back and do surgery now for $4000! These people ripped me off something terrible. My cat was stublming about so I decided to take her in. Just do run blood work cost me $500... Turns out it was an ear infection. Something that a competent vet would be able to tell just by looking (which was an $85 fee to begin with) Then they wanted to charge me and addtional $66 for ear drops that cost $11 at Petco and make me feel guilty for not buying them. Probably the best Vet in the state. They are open 24 hours a day and only take in emergency cases. Earlier this year the police busted a radical muslim group in Detroit, and afterwards they brought the police dog that was shot to this vet. I remember the event because they flew the dog in by chopper and I live a few blocks away and watched in awe as a helicopter landed on John R. The only downside is that you're going to be much lighter in your wallet after taking your pet here. I brought my outdoor cat here after he was attacked by a possum and they charged me over $150 just to look at him. It turned out he had a broken jaw and lost some teeth. After examining my cat they printed up an estimate and then made me pay the full amount in advance before taking care of my pet. Yeah, it seems kind of cold hearted, but that's what we get when medicine is a for-profit system. I think this vet very much represents the human health care situation in this country. If you have the cash it's the best system in the world, if you don't you get crap service and have a higher risk of mishaps. I won't divulge how much the actual operation cost, but they did a great job. They saved a great deal of his teeth and even my reguar vet was surprised how well my cat's jaw healed. I took my dog in to get a broken nail fixed, the room was covered in blood from the previous animal before us. They took my dog back, then came right back (less than 3 minutes) with a bill of $536. They said he needed to be sedated. I wanted a second opinion so I took him Michigan humane society on Chrysler Drive. He did not need to be sedated. The remaining nail needed to be clipped off AND THAT WAS IT! I called this office back because I got a text that they wanted a follow up, when I told the lady she said they weren't going to sedate him And then in the same sentence said due to the possible pain they would sedate him! She was rude and quickly hung up when I told her I wasn't happy with them. This office is money hungry. They didn't even examine my dog before they through the bill in my face! I understand that everyone's experience is different, but if I could give 0 stars I would and I will never take any of my animals here again. I felt like a giant dollar sign. We took my 11 yr old Staffy in on Tuesday, because she had vomited 8 times in 24hrs, barely eaten or drank anything, was very lethargic barely moving, and had bloody stool. I informed the team I was aware she had mass cell tumors (but did not know how bad they had gotten). The dr called and gave a total of $800 something, I asked them to add something for pain (which ended up only costing an additional $70 something). He said she had "gastroenteritis increased liver enzymes." We go to check out and they provide a bill for more than $1200! All they gave her for pain was a single shot. Nothing to take home. The next day, I knew it was her time. When we took her in to be put to sleep at a different vet, we showed that vet the x-rays from VES and immediately she saw several things that were not normal (her lungs, liver, and spleen among other things). If I had known how bad it was, I wouldn't have kept her suffering on this earth for 2 more days. My dog suffered in pain for 2 more days because these people didn't tell me how bad her condition was, and they tried to get an extra $400 out of us! Will NEVER come here again! read more

Of course my cat couldn't get sick during regular business hours. He had to start acting sketchy and trying to pee where he shouldn't at 11pm the Friday of Labor Day weekend. Lucky for him they were open. We got in a room only a few minutes after walking in and he was diagnosed soon after. I can;'t say if it was too expensive because the only the only other option was to let him die. I thought the staff was great. When I was in the room, the doctor did not introduce himself and he basically was asking me the general questions. The prices were pretty expensive. It was 500 for Xray and blood work. But I do understand. But then he told me after that the total was 719. And then he went to do the work on my dog, then called me and told me it was close to 900! I was stunned by the price. Very rude, brutal staff personnel (front desk & technicians) and they wonder why clients become assertive and defensive in response to their inappropriate behavior. The inappropriate behavior / erroneous accusations witnessed is definitely not of the client's inadequacies but of theirs. Not sure about the Veterinarians as you never see them and whether they willfully tolerate the staff's bad behavior because the behaviors the Veterinarians tolerate become the norm with the staff and this is what you see here and as noted in all the other concerning reviews. Also, the Veterinarians should take the time to meet with the client and discuss the treatment plan and fees, not just proceed / perform diagnostics, injections, etc., without the client's thorough understanding and consent. What brought us here? My 20lb dog was viciously attacked by another dog. As I was driving here my wife called in and let them know I was coming with my dog. As soon as I got there I was pleasantly surprised- there was someone waiting for me. She took my dog and went to the back to work on him. I felt VIP treatment- wow! and thank you! The doctor was very clear on what was going on. What the costs were. What I should expect. What I should do. What my dog should do. How to help my dog. And such. They were not busy at all the first time I was there- it was quick. The second time I was there they were busy with three other dogs and they were still quick! I was so impressed. I am extremely impressed with everything. These people give up their lives to take care of mine. I read that people aren't happy with the cost- remember this is like an ER. I expected the bill to be somewhat steep, but surprisingly it wasn't as steep as I thought. My dog was with them for many hours in surgery- he was there over four hours. Multiple tests were done. Bunch of pills were given. Bunch more were subscribed. They took a lot of time explaining what to do and more time answering questions. I never felt rushed. They gave him multiple cones. Called around to get information from my vet. The cost was a little over a grand- again not bad for what happen to my little one. I have my dog- he is alive and happy because of you- thank you! What else can I ask for? They even had free bottled water for me :-) To the staff and the entire support team- thank you so much for everything you did for me and my family. Actually (0) stars. My boyfriend and I just took our little kitty To this place because it appears to be the only place open at this hour. They took us right in. My kitty had an emergency that we did not want to wait until the morning for. We brought a poop sample for them to test as well. The male doctor came in, mind you I have no idea till this moment what his name is because he never introduced himself. He then helps me get her out of her cage which she usually refuses to get out at this point, which is normal, but then she for the first time got really feisty, never have seen her act like that . I take it it was because he rushed into the cage and just yanked her out. Didn't even let her get comfortable with him. Then I ask him if she feels warm and he's like well I don't know let's take her temperature and then immediately grabs the thermometer and puts the stick up her butt right in front of my boyfriend and I and my poor little girl was just crying the entire time. THERE IS A REASON VETS TAKE THE ANIMALS IN THE BACK SO THEIR OWNER DOESNT SEE THEM TRAUMATIZED! He then says she has no fever but "we can either give her antibiotics or you can do x rays and blood work" well alright, so why would we give my cat antibiotics if she has NO DIAGNOSIS.. at this point my boyfriend reminds him of the stool sample we handed off to the so called receptionist who said she would bring it back to the doctor. He says he tested it and then We ask him about the stool with the rubber band in it.. and his response "what stool with the rubber band" ...... Meaning this man just literally told us he tested my cats stool but he somehow missed the one with a rubber band in it. First of all your dumb, second of all don't lie to your patients. The man had no idea what we were talking about because he never saw the stool. He then went on saying okay the two options are you can pay us $355 ...pause oh wait I made a mistake (gets his phone out and does recalculations) you owe us $375 for juSt antibiotics and then $895 if you want x rays and blood work. We then asked if we could talk for a moment and he steps out. We made our decision that this man was rubbing us the wrong way, something was off, we didn't feel right at all about this situation. Everything was off, and obviously the little one felt it too immediately when he tried grabbing her. We decided to get a second opinion and just pay $100 for the "office call and visit". Now (being a whole total of 10 minutes in the building during the visit that night) the nurse said she would be right back. The doctor then makes a knock on the door and in a second we over hear the nurse or "receptionist" whisper to him "oh they are just going to pay for the call and visit , sorry" and the doctor replies "okay" and stops himself from entering the room. And that was the last we heard/saw him for that entire 11 minute visit. At that point, the nurse came in asked for our payment and swipes the card and sends us off. They got their $100 for a whopping 11 minute visit that was with the doctor for a total of 2 minutes with no answers, treatments, diagnosis. Just 2 minutes of going over two different absurd crazy high prices that one would give my animal an antibiotic that may or may not help my cat (or even make it worse) because he had no diagnosis, no anything. And the other was for him to aggressively grab my animal and probably draw blood right in front of us and take x rays. We then had one last thing to say to the nurse or "receptionist" and then we were off. We simply just asked if the doctor even looked at the stool that he said he looked at but then later had no idea about the fact there was a rubber band in my cats poop. And she replies.."what stool?" Well the stool we handed you 11 minutes ago that you took from our hand and told us that you would give it to the doctor to look at. It appears that the stool was never given to the doctor, the doctor never even examined the stool and my cat remains UNTREATED. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. We were there for 11 minutes and we ran out of there. They have such bad bad bad bad energy, they have awful , idiotic , capitalistic vets for their doctors. This place is horrible. They should either focus on the health and wellbeing of the ANIMAL so they could actually make a positive difference and stop focusing on calculating numbers of insane fees and prices that you keep screwing up and recalculating. You are a disgrace to this community. Serve your animals right. They matter in this world as much as we do. Do your job and practice what's right. Shame on you. Telling everyone about you guys. This staff is wonderful. You can tell they love animals. The doctors are also friendly and patient. I've had to take my kitty here twice. It would seem her life's mission is to get sick only on weekends and holidays. I take her to her vet and its sunshine and rainbows...two weeks later it's 9:30 on a Saturday and she's crying and peeing every five seconds. Off to EVS. I will say, both times they have treated her well, provided medication and she has been back to feeling like herself in a few days. However, both times I walked out paying over double what they "guesstimate" was over the phone. I agree with the reviewer who said they take advantage of your need to be seen off hours and your desperation to get your furry friend feeling better. This place does well and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, but they are EXPENSIVE. Very, very expensive. There are fees on top of fees on top of fees. If I could give no stars, I would! I brought in my Yorkie tonight because she was limping and not putting weight on one of her legs. They wanted to do X rays on her as well as sedate her. They didn't tell me ANY of this until they had already done it, my dog is 2.8 lbs, I don't want her sedated, who wants their 3 month old puppy sedated?! They also did the X ray without telling me and I had to pay $484.00 to then be told it's not a fracture, just a soft tissue bruise. I have no problem paying whatever I need to to make sure my puppy is alright but the part that killed me is they cared more about payment and wouldn't even let me see her until I had paid. Then, once I got her back they said she was heavily sedated and she literally is drooling, not being herself at all. They don't care an ounce about anyone's dogs, they just care about getting their payment, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE ER to take your dog to!!!! It also took them an hour just to see us and the whole time we were waiting all I heard them talking about was when their food was coming, that's all they were concerned about! I took my dog here after she was crying out in extreme pain one night. They were able to see my dog right away, which is one of the reasons I took her here because they did not have a wait time compared to other nearby emergency vets at the time. The doctor and his staff examined my dog with great care and took their time with the initial exam. They gave me reccomendations and pointed me in the direction of a nerologist. The doctor and his staff were friendly, helpful, and answered all of my questions with honesty. The whole trip ended up costing $635. This included the exam fee, x-rays, blood work, a pain medicine injection, and other lab fees. read more

This place deserves 0 stars. We brought our Pitbull in a couple nights ago and she was released an hour later, she is now being cremated and our family is heartbroken. They told us our dog would be fine to go home as long as we kept an eye on her, once we got her to Wilson hours later they instantly said she would need to be hospitalized for 4-7 days because of how critical her condition was. This place did no X-rays, if they did they would've found the cancer causing her to be as sick as she was. They put on our paperwork to bring her back in for X-rays if her condition worsened, any other vet would've automatically X-rayed a dog coming in days after having a litter of puppies. I assume they did this for the extra money they would've received from us bringing her back in. We spent $900 for them to do nothing. I'm so disappointed in the lack of care for our dying dog. They had my cat in the back by himself in his carrier for 4 hours before they looked at him. They did nothing and wanted to sedate him for X-rays. They were rude and did not keep me updated. They gave my cat back to me after 6 hours with pee and poop all over him and his carrier. They called me to come inside when he was ready-but instead just had me pay and wait in an empty room by myself another hour before anyone came in. You don't get to see the actual vet and the assistants are not helpful. I asked "is his little toy in there?" (His carrier) And the tech says "um no, but you have a free leash now because he was mad" do you mean the rope you had around my cats neck? Of course he's mad he was left unattended for hours!!!! I brought my cat in after she was bitten by a dog. Called first, was told to expect an hour wait and that I may have to wait outside due to restrictions regarding the number of people allowed in the building due to covid. However I was let in promptly, had a normal wait time in the clean and tidy waiting room, and was greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff. Felt really at ease. Once in the room, the vet listened to me and examined my cat quickly, gave me an estimated bill up front, and we were in and out far sooner than I expected. I called today about getting the ashes well cuz I paid the 120.00 that meant I don't get ashes back..I told the girl on the phone I would've paid the more expensive price to have the ashes if I would've know. Plus the chic on phone couldn't find my paper work. She got back on phone with a different last name insisting it was mine!! Just gotta say this place sucks!!! Don't EVER go to this place. My puppy infested a small rock, and like any concerned owner I went there ASAP. Once I arrived I let the staff know my pup was on Cerenia (basically a med that won't allow your dog to throw up), but they ASSURED me they could get him to throw the rock up. After I give them 518 DOLLARS they call me and let me know that they can't get him to throw up because of his meds. I was furious bc I SPECIFICALLY STATED that if they thought it was a problem to just let me know before paying, but said nothing. They took my money knowing he wouldn't throw anything up. Probably could have waited but he is my boy so we went in. They did the procedure quick and knew exactly what was wrong. My cat was SCREAMING. Do not go here unless it's your only option. This place is old, dirty, smelly, and the vet is highly questionable. My vet has never made my cat scream before. It was horrifying. She was trying to check my cat's mouth and she pulled on the skin under his mouth to try and get it open. My cat never bites I tried I telling her but she kept telling me to be careful. The assistant came out and held him down while they took his temperature. He was so scared and the dumb duo was telling me it was fine and step outside if his howls were too disturbing. I started kissing his nose and rubbing his chin and they told me to back up and watch out! NO WAY. When the vet said she needed to empty his bladder and went to take him away I said I'll pay and wait until the vet opens in the morning. She said the bladder felt swollen. He came home and went to the litterbox. I can't believe she was going to empty his bladder when all he had to do was go to the bathroom. I figured my cat was better off passing away then go through this horrifying experience. read more

Although expensive, emergency treatment was definitely needed for our dog when our(now former) family vet failed to even see, let alone treat our dog in the hour that I was in the office. Dottie later became sicker and was pain by that evening. Dr. Morgan was thorough, professional, compassionate, explaining her concerns, plan of treatment and costs for care. First off VES saved my cats life and I appreciate that. I won't knock their skills. I will say, that when I walked in with my cat, in dire need of medical attention, they must've said "cha ching". I have had surgery on myself that cost less money than they charged for an overnight stay for my feline. They asked for a huuuuge deposit, which I paid, before they would see my cat. I figured they would refund some of the money back the next day, after they did whatever procedures that needed to be done. Nope, their bill equaled the total of the huge deposit. I was in a hurry to rush my cat somewhere and had seen their building in my travels. I wish I would have read a review or two before I went to VES. Once again, thanks for saving my cat. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Was charged $785 dollars when they claim nothing was wrong with my dog. Obviously we took our dog there because we were desperate in the middle of the night. They know that and they take advantage of it. If you claim there is nothing wrong with my dog why did you give him morphine without consulting me first? The vet himself couldn't have been more unfriendly, and cold. So disappointed I made the decision to take my dog there. read more
