I saw Dr Vetter --grateful to get in on the same day i was referred, because of an urgent traumatic injury to my jaw. He assessed the damage in a way that felt skillful and i left with a clear plan for healing. Also appreciate that their office takes Medicare -- in Santa Cruz County no doctors with this specialty do (for the kind of evaluation i needed). His humor is quirky, but in a way i can appreciate. :o) indeed the office was super busy (three doctors in office treating patients) but staff was professional. We asked for a copy of the notes for the visit. Maybe they'll be filled out more later, because notes were minimal with some minor inaccuracies. read more

I was a new patient with a 3:30 appointment that I arrived on time for. By 5:00 I gave up waiting and left. I had to be somewhere else and thought for sure I would have been done by then. I have never experienced a wait that long. I never saw the doctor, so can't comment on how he is as a doctor, but the wait was just too long with not one time being told they were running late or anything. Kinda like it was normal. read more

Dr vetter is snarky and condescending. Didn't call us after my daughter had surgery to follow up, didn't come to the ER when she was admitted with dehydration, forgot to call in an antibiotic for her. When I had questions the day after my daughter had surgery, I called and sat a hold for half an hour only to be told that they would call me back. I recently made an appointment with Dr. Vetter but never seen him. There was three patients ahead of me. What a disappointment. It was 3:45 my appointment was scheduled for 4 pm there were patients in the treatment rooms. Plus the waiting room had numerous patients and children. And Patients were standing in the hall way. The receptionist was rude! I have no intention of returning, because the scheduling department has a serious problem in scheduling appointments. I had to give one star in order to write the review. Never thought I'd "Yelp" a doctor, but here we are. Dr. Vetter is rude and incredibly dismissive. Front office said arrive 15 minutes early, then made me wait a full 30 past my appointment time. Dr. Vetter walked in jovially making jokes about my name (I'm over 50, I'm immune to that), but, commenced to perform one 30 second test, looked in my ears, didn't allow me to clarify my symptoms or concerns, told me "these things happen with aging" (I'm 52). Told me I should stay active "go outside, take a hike, go for a walk, don't just sit on the couch because you think your balance is off" (I never mentioned my activity or fitness level), and he laughed at my symptoms of buzzing and roaring with certain tones of voices, and pushed me out the door. He walked in the room at 1200, and I was out of the building and in my car by 12:20. I spent longer filling out the papers to make sure he got paid than he spent with me. Doctors should never wonder why people turn to Google for advice. We can get crap advice without the cost and crap treatment. ** also, despite waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time, I saw the front desk chastise and elderly patient for arriving 15 minutes late as she explained she couldn't find her car keys. There is a serious problem with the scheduling department. They overbook so heavily, that your chances of seeing the doc in afternoon are slim. By 3pm, patients are sleeping in their chairs as they have been sitting for hours. They scheduling department needs attention, if not complete removal and start over. After sitting for hours, never got to see the doctor and had to reschedule, so I opted for morning. By 10am, they were already 45 minutes behind. And then they have the gall to have you sign a form that the patient will be on time!! . Respect your patients' time, please. This failure to see patients timely is extremely rude. read more

Doctor Vetter was prompt and very focused on my personal needs. I'd had surgery by another ENT 2 1/2 years ago and suffered from a chronic sinus infection ever since. Doctor Vetter looked at my sinus CT scans and then went deep inside my nose and removed multiple infected bone fragments. Following a course of antibiotics the infection finally resolved. Worst doctor I have ever encountered. Completely unprofessional and it was clear he did not know what he was doing. He essentially said it was all in my head and that I had to just live with it, in the most rude manner. I did not ask to go see an ENT, two other specialists recommended I do so to figure out what the core of my issue was, while he just dismissed me having any issues. Went back to my referring doctor (who laughed at Vetter's notes because how unprofessional they were) and sent me to another ENT. This other one found a tumor and they put me into surgery immediately. I highly recommend you stay away from this guy. read more

Don't waste your time with Dr. Vetter. He doesn't treat the patient, he has a flow chart diagnostic tool. You can use google and get better diagnostics. He used an endoscope in my nose reluctantly and determined my septum 'was horribly deviated.' After I reviewed my CT scan the result was my septum was midline. Unfortunately, his office never scheduled a follow up visit to review my results, a simple task to follow up with his patient! When I talked about four failed tests I had for hearing loss, he scoffed and said I probably didn't have hearing loss. We conducted another test in the office, and the result came back I had significant hearing loss. He recommended I get a box of tennis balls so my wife could throw them at me to get my attention. Then he wrote a note to my wife recommending to get my attention, then speak, so that I will read her lips. I don't need to see a doctor to get this type of treatment. He is a lousy comedian and a worse doctor. No recommendation to fix, treat or improve my conditions. He is an arrogant doctor, and lacks the skill to back his arrogance. read more

We never got a chance to bring our 4-year-old in to see Dr. Vetter or one of his partners but I had to write about the experience we had with the answering service and his front office staff. I called on a Sunday and got his answering service and told them I was a physician on vacation with my family and had a son with sinus problems and hoped to be able to be seen Monday. The on call Doctor refused to speak with me bc I was not an existing patient and he did not know his schedule for Monday and did not know if they could fit me in. Being a doctor myself, I had hoped to get a little professional courtesy which would in this case equate to their doctor telling me what my chances were of getting seen tomorrow and whether we would be better off going to an urgent care instead. I also left a message on his voicemail for his front office staff to call me Monday morning and let us know if they could fit us in. No one ever called me back. For all I know, Dr Vetter could be the former or current president of the American Academy of ENT physicians. But his front office staff and his on call physician could have been more helpful. As a physician, I know that soothing an anxious parent can be as big a service as treating a child's sinuses. read more

My son had an out-patient surgery to relieve pressure on a cyst in the back of his throat. This was done at CHOMP as Dr. Vetter was on call. The surgery went well....and he was released immediately after. The early release had to do with his level of Insurance coverage. He started this event in the E.R. and then moved to out-patient surgery. The day my son had trouble breathing due to severe swelling of his throat. We contacted Vetters office and the advice we received was actually near mal practice in my opinion. After explaining the post-surgery complication, the office advised us that the Doctor would see him on Monday....with a request from his Primary Doctor. Our question.....he can't breathe now....that would be 5 days later. As you might expect, he went back to the E.R. at CHOMP last night where a Cat Scan indicated that the surgery was doing well, but the restrictions due to swelling in his throat required immediate intervention. He was given I.V. steroids fluids, anti-inflammatory and was kept overnight. I called the Doctors office today and asked them to pull the E.R report from last night and give it to Dr. Vetter. He offered to see us today. Great turn-around on his part. Talking to him about the lack of after-care or any kind of concern for his procedure was like pulling teeth. Lots of lengthy pauses....with clearly the purpose to diminish any responsibility. "How is doing now" he repeated. My response....Much better due to the intervention by the E.R. at CHOMP. He again stated that "nothing he could say would make me happy." I pointed out to him in our conversation that I didn't need him to make me "happy." I needed him to explain why he made no personal effort to follow-up on the surgery, why no one from his office bothered to call, and how making an appointment 5 days later would alleviate the swelling. His people skills....as evidenced by many of these Yelp reviews leaves much to be desired. In summary, if an out-patient surgery patient calls the next day because they can't breathe....that should warrant a response from him or his office. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Vetter. My daughter needed a surgery for apnea when she was 3. I was both terrified for the surgery and terrified for her to not have the surgery. Dr. Vetter treated my daughter but also held my hand through the process too. On the day of surgery, my daughter was very frightened to go into the OR. Dr. Vetter scooped her up in a warm blanket and let her cry on his shoulder until she calmed enough to walk back to the room. He is a special man. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr Vetter is seriously the best Dr I have seen! Not only does he listen and do thorough exams, he makes you feel welcomed and enjoy your time in the office. I have been suffering from a bad ear infection and he took the time to cover his bases and relieved the pain with meds that were inexpensive. One day later I'm feeling a lot better. Dr. Vetter is a great doctor. Not only is he super smart, but cares about his patients. I usually bring notes that I've taken to my doctors appointments, and while most doctors are rushing you out the door, Dr. Vetter asks if you have any questions he can answer, then saw I had notes and said oh you brought notes let's see what you have. I am so used to have doctors just rush you out, I was really blown away. Everyone on the staff is also really nice, Juliana was super helpful and told me if i had problems with the scan I needed and insurance, just to call. read more

I saw Dr. Vetter for tinnitus. He looked in each ear for about 2 seconds. He ignored the possibility of TMJ causing the problem even though I told him I have had TMJ for years. He told me that the ringing in my ears was due to some internal strife and that I must be an unhappy person. He then said "look out the window, there's a rainbow, so be happy." I am a very happy person. I'm just uhhappy that I wasted over 2 hours and a fair amount of money seeing this quack. read more

Dr. Vetter was a HORRIBLE doctor. He did not take time to listen to my ear problems, rushed me through it, rolled his eyes several times, and he told me he did not know what was wrong with my plugged ears (for over a year). Then he made fun of the situation and took my head in his hands and said "Demons be gone" and told me that I needed to get used to having plugged ears, just like he has to get used to having arthritis in his shoulder. When I first met Dr. Vetter, he seemed to be all business, but once I got to know him better, he opened up. He's funny, interesting, and most importantly a great doctor. I went in today (after taking time off, which isn't easy) only to find out that they do not take my insurance. I am so frustrated. I had the unfortunate luck of only being able to see doctors at Central Coast Head and Neck. I started with Trapp. Asked to see Dr. Vetter for a second opinion regarding my salivary glands. The first time I saw him he was great and actually helped me, where Dr. Trapp hadn't. Today I call to get in for a second opinion regarding swelling in the side of my face that started as mild, behind my ear, and has now spread to my jaw, around my eye, and behind my ear. I had seen Dr. Trapp as he was the one who treated my thyroid cancer and my lymph node was swollen and I was concerned it had come back. He did a needle biopsy and it had not come back, however, when I called to get the results, he didn't even remember that he had put me on antibiotics for this already. He suggested that I go on them during our conversation. I had to remind him he put me on them. So, antibiotics are now gone, and symptoms continue to worsen. So, now that I know it's not the thyroid cancer, I call Vetter to see if he can shine some light on what is going on here. He declines to see me, and tells me to see Trapp. So reluctantly, I call Dr. Trapp's office. He's out until the 29th. So I call Vetter back. He STILL declines to see me and recommends Dr. German. I'm done with Central Coast Head and Neck. I'll be going to the ER tonight as it seems the ENT's with Central Coast Head and Neck is actually interested in helping their patients. read more

I wanted to take the time to let other's know about my experience with Dr. Steven Vetter and his support staff. I placed a call this morning and asked if Dr. Vetter could possibly squeeze me in today for an appointment, due to an abscess in my jaw. I fully expected to be put off for days, if not several weeks. To my delight, the scheduler made an appointment for me that afternoon. When I arrived the waiting room was full, the office manager was very pleasant and had me fill out the appropriate paperwork. I was escorted back to one of the treatment rooms, in a reasonable amount of time and Dr. Vetter entered the room within 10 minutes and immediate saw that I had a raging infection in my jaw. After a focused exam, he proceeded to drain the abscess and I felt instant relief. He changed the antibiotic that I was taking to a more appropriate one and recommended that I return in two weeks for a follow up. He is a warm caring individual and an excellent physician.
