Food excellent. Service lacking. Have been here twice and had ribs two yrs in a row. Came back specifically for them. Again that he did not disappoint. The cherry barbecue sauce is exceptional. Today I was with my seniored parents. My mom is on a bit of a fixed diet and ordered the shrimp appetizer. The waitress asked if she wanted a side salad and mom said yes. Typically one would think that the salad will come out before the "entrée". But it didn't. The food was rather fast and when delivered to the table my mom surprisingly said "oh I expect the salad to come out first". Our waitresses name was Haley and she very snarkingly retorted "well you didn't say that!" Mom didn't touch the salad ... And neither did Hailey. My mom, the polite one in this battle, apologized after the meal for not making it clearer. The waitress then acquiesced and said she would take the salad off the bill. Of course things like this can happen. But she also forgot to bring waters at our table and the table next to us. I'm not saying every waiter or waitress's is of the same ilk at this establishment but often times in resort towns people can treat tourists as second-class citizens from time to time. Best place for large groups - and celebrations

Great little place. We have gone here 2x now and love it. I get the black bean burger with avocado which is outstanding. The drinks are good as well. They have a perch app that is pretty amazing as well. They loose a star because service is a bit slow. read more

I was in town because my husband is a cyclist.... forward note.... I was not dressed well... I arrived at 10:30 a.m. on 9/14/ 2019. I will begin by saying that the hostess was very friendly, to everyone. She sat me on the patio , and after about 5 minutes, noticed that I had not yet been greeted. She asked a server ( who I later realized was not responsible for me) to bring me a beverage. She checked on me 3 times, made friendly, personally connective conversation and also answered questions that I could not ask a server.... they had not yet come over. A table that was taken to their table 10 minutes after I arrived received their meal before my server came to mine (same server). I believe the hostess actually made her notice me. I eventually got my meal.... very tasty. And after I received my plate, was attended to. I have been in the business for 30 years. I understand that mistakes happen.... but.... I almost left her only 20 %....bot I went back and left 15% more. Maybe she will no longer consider how someone looks before deciding how to treat them. Very cool atmosphere. However, our waitress was terrible. We sat a good 20 minutes before finally another server cleared our plates. Another 10 minutes getting our bills and another 10 for her to pick them up! On top of that, she charged me for a drink I did not order. The other servers seemed to be on top of it though, so we must have gotten the bad one. Or perhaps she just had a bad night. The food was ok. I got cheese enchiladas that were said to be "award winning" on the menu. They were very blah to me. The others in my party seemed to enjoy their burgers. read more

Great ribs! Terrible dessert... Freezer burned ice cream and yucky crust for the pie. Great for food and drinks though!

I've had more than my share of brunch buffets, and this is as good as it gets. The only thing I didn't try was the made-to-order omelettes. I was tempted, but if I did, I wouldn't have had room for seconds on the incredibly moist scrambled eggs and vanilla infused waffles. Good bloody's too! read more

I ordered their "just enough" from the breakfast menu. The sausage and hash browns were overcooked, and my raising bread toast too greasy. My daughter loved her pancakes and my husband his steak breakfast, so I guess they're hit or miss. read more

Great main street location, outside dining available with small wait, pleasant waitstaff, and great food!

On a busy weekend lunchtime, we were greeted at the door (by whom I later found out was the owner) and told that we'd have to briefly wait to seat our party of 8 adults & 2 kids. He got us a table (and Crayons & placemats for coloring for the kids) in no time and sent over our server. She was friendly and helpful despite her being super busy. The food took a little while (they were really slammed) but everything was as we ordered and very tasty - nothing fancy; it is pub food after all. (My wife got the French Onion burger - so good!) The beer selection was solid, the Olympics were on the flat screens, and everyone was happy. How can you go wrong? I'll definitely stop in again on my way thru Suttons Bay! (I heard their weekend brunch is good too - I could see watching NFL Sunday Ticket there with a Bloody Mary or two). Cheers! read more

This restaurant has been remodeled and has a great new menu - the perch poppers are a wonderful appetizer! It is a great place in the summer, it is so nice to eat outside. I love this place! Everytime I have gone here the food has been great and the service fantastic. I have eaten both dinner and breakfast here and both are very good. I have been able to get chocolate chip pancakes even though they aren't on the menu and they are some of the best I have ever had. The Tex-Mex food is really good and the pizza is some of the best in the area. The staff is very friendly and accomadating (they don't mind if you make substitutions or ask that something be left off). All in all this is one of the best restraunts in the area. read more

Great restaurant and bar in Suttons Bay. Lots of TVs if you want to watch a game, as well as comfortable seating outside if you want to enjoy a warm northern Michigan summer day. They have a robust selection of beers on tap, they even carry local items such as cider from Suttons Bay Ciders. I have yet to enjoy their live music but it's on my wish list for my next visit since VI grill is our go to restaurant whenever I am in town. read more

Very disappointing. They had a Labor Day breakfast buffet that literally had 4-5 options. No big deal. But everything lacked any flavor at all (especially the eggs)! It was just awful. My daughter ate 1/2 a pancake. That's all she'd consider. So I asked the waitress if I could pay for 1 pancake instead of the $7 kids buffet. She's was very rude about it, but complied. Normally I like this place. I'm a local and I drop in during the off season. Their Greek pizza is good, and they have good local taps. But today I'm disappointed. The bartender ignored me completely. I've never felt so insulted. It wasn't busy. He would not look me on the eye after I waited ten minutes for him to check on me and take my very simple order. Short buzzed hair, blonde, blue eyes. My husband grew up going to this place and years later, appears to not have changed. The food is mediocre. The Mac-n-cheese was kraft with bacon on top. At least make homemade Mac-n-cheese. Average food and flies everywhere on the outside patio. My wife and I were constantly trying to swat little fruit flies out of our wine and food. My wife was eating with one hand and swatting with the other. The staff acknowledged it and was nice about it but didn't offer to reseat us. We arrived in Suttons Bay around 9pm and found the VI Grill was the only place open. Our waiter, Alex F, was awesome! VERY attentive, and had the uncanny ability to suggest the perfect beer or drink for each of us. We ordered burgers and salads -- all were HUGE -- and Alex recommended the cherry? nut bread pudding with caramel sauce for dessert, which was DELICIOUS. Our return visit was at 10pm on the Saturday after July 4th. Though the hostess didn't try too hard to seat us, the manager DID even though someone in our party read they don't serve food after 10pm. We had burgers all around -- I had the veggie burger which was kinda mushy. We didn't have their pizza, but it looked good. read more

We live not too far away and love to come and eat here about once a month. It is a relaxed atmosphere, and kid friendly (which doesn't mean your kids can run all over the place....our children sit in their seats and are quiet and the staff are always very kind to them and chit chat with them). We love that Sunday, kids eat free! Also, every December, Santa arrives here on a fire truck and for FREE he visits with all the kids :) We have really enjoyed the whitefish sandwich and my husband loves their burgers and it is always cooked like he wants it. I do really like their enchiladas although lately it has been wanting for some spices, but it's still very good. Nachos are amazing. Great drink selection too, we always find a beer we like on tap or on the menu. We will always be back! read more

We visit quite often during our summers in Suttons Bay, and we've come to really appreciate this place. The menu is honest and fairly priced. The burgers show signs of having been made by real human hands from authentic ground beef, unlike the quick-thawed hockey pucks that most of the restaurants up here serve. Short one star for one reason: the live music on the patio is far too loud for the small space it needs to cover. The space cries out for an acoustic guitar and human voice. It doesn't need a PA system. read more
