They had just finished a catered event and waiter rushed us to put in order- not sure why they accepted the reservation if they wanted to send chef home. I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem in White Plains. We have had 2 parties here and have had dinner here twice and have had nothing but great food and service each and every time. First of all, their party rooms are beautiful. We had my daughter's party in the Princess Room/wine room and it was spacious yet it also felt like home. They do a price fix menu for parties, and we were able to customize it to suit our taste. They are accommodating. Shout out to Diego who helped us tremendously! The food is DELICIOUS! Older parents in town, or someone who loves Sopranos? Consider this restaurant. Love actual Italian food and despise cheap cheese? Consider TVB by Pax Romana for simple fresh pasta and pizza. Otherwise consider Peruvian or burgers; "Italian" food in this town would likely surprise an Italian. More specifically, this over-hyped restaurant serves yet-to-be-filled calzone husks as starter bread, accompanied by awful olive oil made palatable by garlic and herbs. It was the best part of our meal. Everything is under-seasoned and over-creamed, salads way over dressed, and the wine list is full of over-priced table wine. My daughter remarked that her "pesto" reminded her of Mac' cheese. Also, not a thing I can can recall noticing anywhere else I've eaten, we really didn't like the all-male service that commands you to "enjoy!" every time they walk by. They were interrupting and strangely authoritarian. Someone loudly carrying on a conversation via speakerphone during 1/2 the meal was also irritating. Music or something might have helped. I added a star only because we came in around 4:00 and we understand most places really should just close 3-5 if they can't maintain standards, yet good for them to give us a place to go. I pass Via Garibaldi every day on my morning commute, and even though I've been plowing through most of the restaurants in downtown White Plains, I was yet to hit this one. While I'm generally wary of Italian food in Westchester, they have a high star average so my interest was piqued. My mother met me for lunch the other day before I went into work and thought it was the perfect excuse to try VG out. Via Garibaldi is relatively new - the space used to be housed by an Argentinean steakhouse but last year after a brief refurb it became VG. I believe the owners of VG also own Via Veneto 26 (another Italian restaurant) down the block in City Center. The restaurant is large - as you walk in you're greeted by the large bar area, and as you walk further back there's a large dining room with a private room off to the side. Additionally, there's another dining room beyond that with even more seating. From the outside it looks like there's a second floor but I'm not sure if its open to the public. The aesthetics are very nice; it unmistakably an Italian restaurant but the decor is just enough - earth tones with touches of Italian accents really makes it a comfortable place to dine. Since we were there for lunch, I decided to browse the lunch specials - but first, BREAD. It was a sliced focaccia that was served nice and warm with some seasoned oil - totally delicious wow. I digress though, the lunch specials had a nice selection of salads, pastas, mains, and wraps. I was in the modo for a wrap, and I went with the Toscana. The wrap contained grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, greens, and onions. The wrap was pretty good - they were generous with the fillings and it tasted super fresh, totally an ideal option for lunch. Service was great, we got our food promptly which I kind of expected for a lunch service and everyone was really friendly. Overall, I was impressed with Via Garibaldi - they put out a solid lunch experience. I would be totally open to returning and exploring more of their menu. read more

I recently attended a luncheon at via Garibaldi after a funeral. It was very well done. We sat in the wine cellar. The food was excellent ranging from pizza to antipasto to spiedini. Fried calamari was crisp and delicious, pizzas were fresh with great crust. My zuppa di pesce was perfectly presented, with a wonderful assortment of seafood ranging from calamari to mussels to shrimp. Best of all, was a service. These waiters are very hard-working and responsive. It was the perfect luncheon. Bravo! read more

The venue is so relaxing, beautiful and filled with warm glow it brought back the pre-covid era's memory of how dining out used to be a happy experience. We came here for an anniversary lunch and definitely was the right choice. The indoor tables are perfectly set with silverware and glasses while offering plenty of space between tables. I've seen some restaurants use plastic forks and cups which I hate. So happy Via Garibaldi is staying put with pre-covid world elegance. Waiting staff are geared up for safety while being friendly, polite and eager to help. Food was great too. Rigatoni Bolognese and wood oven pizza were both wonderful. Can we just talk about the BREAD?!? I mean Oh. My. God!! The bread is outta' this world. It's what all good table bread should be. A feast for the senses. There's a little kick to it, but even my Northern European tastebuds could handle it. I could stop right there. My whole dinner, done! But why, when there are so many other yummy treats actually on the menu?? I started with the Arugula Bella salad. Very nice. As well as the Calamari di Ariana. The calamari are tender and served warm in a nice tomato base with olives. Nice grown-up take on fried calamari. I also had the Papardelle de la Mer. Beautiful pasta and delicious seafood. I think I saw a sign saying there's live music in Thursday's. Either come for that or avoid it, depending upon your preference. Probably call first to check. My friends and I had an incredible dinner and evening all around. We started off with drinks of course followed by appetizers. We went with calamari and stuffed clams that tasted amazing. For my main course I went with the lobster ravioli which was mouth watering. The service was top notch although we were all very surprised that the restaurant was not busy at all which is weird for a Saturday night. Living in downtown White Plains for over 2+ years now, I have yet to find fresh pasta and warm and inviting ambience. I happened to drive by when it was 88 degrees outside and saw several young professionals and families seated outside enjoying a drink and sunshine. Seeing how it was new and how busy it was, I decided to go there with my friend last night. What an experience - the owner, who is from Italy and his wife from Argentina, spoke with us for at least 30 minutes. They gave us a tour of Via Garibaldi, the history behind each painting, glass of wine, the murals, and the family style experience. At the end of the tour, we realized this venue is a truly authentic gem. The owner was kind to offer us a complimentary drinks and home made pasta, which was perfectly cooked. Not greasy, extremely fresh, and hand-made...I felt like I was in Toscana. I'm so glad they are here, because I will be going back. A beautiful place for a date, dinner with friends or colleague, or to host a private party. Soup was good too However ...... for the main dish I got Risotto. That was "not" a risotto. Not even close to what a risotto is meant to be. The base (rice) itself was weird looking and tasteless. I've never had a bad risotto but again, to me, it was something else with some nice truffles and cheese on top to disguise the mess. Horrible choice and bad luck for me. Beware of the Risotto. As we were looking at the menu they brought us a couple of complimentary salads. After our meal they offered a complimentary glass of wine. Ok, all the free stuff aside, the ambiance was nice. Good for a date or a business meal. Very large restaurant and I believe there was outdoor seating available as well. I noticed 1 large private room. We also ordered the Carbonara (rich, but not overly rich) and Lobster Ravioli. Both were very good and large portions. We took both home with us. Decent prices and good selection of wines by the glass or bottle. For parking, use the Walmart garage. Take the Broadway elevator and the restaurant is just steps past Panero. My ratings usually coincide with yelp's rating, so I'm shocked at how much I hated the food. The arugula salad was fine, but that's just a matter of throwing together some ingredients. I tried two pastas and found both inedible. The meatballs totally lacked any flavor, and the spaghetti must have come straight from a box. The stuffed rigatoni bolognese was slightly better, but tasted unhealthy, and the unhealthiness wasn't worth it to me. Bland, bland, bland. I also ordered pick up and had to wait 10 minutes past the estimated ready time. I will not return. We went here to celebrate my husband's birthday and we're very disappointed. The calamari appetizer was rubbery and dry. My husband ordered a ribeye steak medium and the entire center was RAW. I ordered the seafood platter oreganata which came out in a broth with no taste, no garlic, and no bread crumbs. Both dishes were poorly executed and nowhere near the worth for which they charged. We decided to call it a night and go elsewhere for dessert. On the positive side, the wait staff was engaging, responsive and very apologetic. The noise level was ear splitting as we were adjacent to a large group which should have been accommodated in a small room off the main dining area for comfort of other diners. This is a large and welcoming dining space with ambiance which was not being used to its full potential. Service? What? Are server was so rude. He (George) couldn't be bothered with serving us water. We asked for a special pizza and he said no specials and no special orders. We asked the pizza chef and he said absolutely no problem. So we had to go around our server to get what we wanted. Then they auctioned off the food when it arrived. Everything was lovely from the delicious warm bread, appetizers, entrees, dessert and of course cocktails. We hadn't been here in about 3 months, one of our favorite Westchester restaurants, due to our schedule 's. As always from the minute we valet our car we were warmly welcomed . Our regular waiter was away, and we were amazed by Elsa from the minute we sat down! She was so personable and attentive to our every need . We started with a lovely charcuterie board with tasty meats and top shelf cheeses. I then had an incredible Padovano chicken with an extremely tasty brown sauce! I've never had a tastier chicken dinner from appearance, to texture to taste! My cousin had an incredible sausage dish! Every aspect of our dinner experience was superb, from ambience, to service to quality of food and drinks was, as usual , over the top! Made reservations for 10 the day before and needed to increase it to 12. Notified them over the phone and they said, no problem. Just come. That was the easiest conversation I have ever had with a place needing reservations. Good vibes to start, don't you think? Walking into the restaurant there was a nice atmosphere. They seemed to be a bit short staffed when we arrived as there didn't seem to be a receptionist or anyone greeting customers for that matter. After all it was mother's day weekend. Even with reservations, we had to wait a while before being seated. But once we were seated Ariano greeted us and sat us at a large table and told me he would take care of getting us some nice hot Antipasto to start. The antipasto did not disappoint! It was grilled octopus, fried calamari and another dish of eggplant, tomato and burrata cheese (to die for)! We ordered an assortment of dishes including pastas, pizza, whole branzino fish, chicken marsala to name a few. Being that it was a busy weekend, the service was slow. There were several private parties going on separate from the main dining room... But it's Italian. So it's part of the experience. It was a good hour between appetizers and the entree. We ended up getting some Argentinian wine and dessert on the house for the long wait. I can't wait to be back when there is less people and enough staff to go around. Earlier this month we had a Rehearsal Dinner for 50 people at Via Garibaldi. We planned the entire evening from the West Coast, never tasting the food or seeing the restaurant. The terrific manager, Elsa, was incredible. Whatever we asked for, she told us no problem, and made it happen. We were extremely pleased to discover the evening was a total success. First time trying this restaurant and it was a winner! It was one of the cleanest restaurants I've ever been to. Very nicely decorated. There was valet parking. The menu had everything from a raw bar , pizza and Italian specialties and steaks and chops. We had fried calamari, baked clams and a seafood salad to start . Everything was excellent! The fresh bread was fantastic it was heated in the pizza oven so good! We both had veal chops which were cooked to perfection and delicious. I had mashed potatoes and my husband had onion rings, both great. We had no room left for dessert so we took it home. Cheesecake and chocolate cake, later that night we devoured them -so good.
