Via Veneto is a very good Italian restaurant. My table had a variety of entrees. Their pasta with mixed chicken and sausage was very good. Portion was ok for my bowl. The rest of my table's orders were from lamb or some type of meat. Portions were small. Pasta was a separate side dish to their plate and the pasta came in a very small dipping sauce saucer plate. Ok wine selection. Only a few wines, but the Chianti and Cab were ok. I like the small restaurant atmosphere. Wait staff was attentive without being over bearing. I recommend Via Veneto. Had a take out sausage peppers & onions sub, so damn hard to find in this area as everyone adds cheese! Via Veneto is that way, sausage, peppers, and onions, with a bit of marinara. Hit the spot. Haven't found anything better around here. To be fair it was a 30 minute delay in eating, so can't knock them too much. Marinara was a little sweet and the sausage a bit dry (the latter very much a delay issue). I'll be back as it is a great little place, just doing its thing. Looking forward to trying their lasagna! Give it a try! If you're looking for actual SP&O sub, haven't found better around here. And the fries had a bit of batter, which is not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought they were outstanding! This restaurant has been around for more than 2 decades. The Pizza is one of their best dishes. Made with fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly. The service is good, they are very attentive. It can get crowded at dinner time so you need to call ahead and reserve a table. The place could use a bit of remodeling and when it gets crowded the noise level is not too high. We thought they were closing but ordered pizza one more time. The crust was paper thin, pizza didn't even fill the box (which is a medium box, not a large", the cheese was "flaky", taste was off, and there were 10 pieces of pepperoni on the entire pie. I want my $50 back. read more

My first visit a few days ago for lunch. Our dishes were lukewarm, not properly seasoned, and presentation was poor. The new owners need to hire an experienced chef, and focus on the quality of the ingredients and preparation. The water also had a strong smell which indicates it is unfiltered or the filtration system is not working. I hope the restaurant improves and wish the owners the best. read more

It us with major regret that I write this review. For years this restaurant has been a go to for reliably good food. It no longer is. Since it has been purchased by its neighboring restaurant the owners of Rosenia's (which is also no longer what it used to be) the quality has dropped off the cliff. I ordered Puttanesca with sausage for lunch take out and was charged the dinner fare which was OK only to find out they omitted the sausage. This weekend we ordered take out lasagna which was abhorrent. The "family salad" was less than an elementary school salad on a tray. My Veal Scaloppini was minimal and dry. My wife's lasagna was worse than something from the frozen section from Safeway on Ft Hunt Road. So sorry but, it's true. PLEASE , get real a real Italian chef and use true recipes. Don't come here for the pre*food bread and salad. They're subpar. Come here for the mussels and the pasta! We ordered the mussels appetizer (photo uploaded) and they were really very good. The sauce was prefect. We also ordered linguine with shrimp and it was similarly better than average. Wow! Finally a to-go that was on point. We were so impressed with our Chicken Caccciatora and Manicotti. I was surprised that our to-go order included a small side salad and some bread too. It was so so so nice. Pro tip, open your wine at home to breathe and then pick up your order! We paired our meal with an Malbec and it was so heavenly. The spinach in the Manicotti was the highlight for me. So fresh and flavorful. All of the sauces were rich but not too heavy. Real chunks of tomato were plentiful. Seriously impressed. Old school Italian food, never fails to impress. I don't know how they get all those flavors in the food! So good. You can eat outside on a nice day, but the inside is cozy and pleasant. This place it outstanding! I came in here a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday for an early dinner. It has very traditional Italian decor on the inside. I have been to Italy a couple of times, including to Venice, and the vibe here is definitely authentic. I got minestrone soup ($8.00), vitello alla Francese (veal, $27.00), tartufo ($6.50), and a Moretti beer ($6.00). The meal included small side dishes of spaghetti, bread and butter, and a small Caesar's salad. All of the ingredients were very fresh and tasty. The veal was excellent. It was well cooked throughout with a breaded crust. The tartufo was vanilla and chocolate ice cream in a shell made of solidified chocolate syrup. The soup was really good--as I recall it had tomatoes, onions, celery, corn, and some other vegetables. The servings were not too large. The service was quick and friendly. It is nice having a restaurant of this quality in the neighborhood without having to go into Old Town or D.C. Keep up the excellent work. read more

Best calamari I've had anywhere, light and crispy without being oily. The side dish of spaghetti was surprisingly delicious given how simple it was. The sauce was perfect. The trout was delicious too. I only wish I had room for dessert! The service was excellent and friendly. read more

Right off the bat, I'd say that the food at best was underwhelming. From the stale complimentary bread, to the minestrone soup that made our whole table wonder how broth with a few veggies in it was being served at a real-life restaurant. Everything was clearly cooked without passion and the recipes must call for the worst quality ingredients. I will not question the staff, we came on a busy night and they seemed overwhelmed and understaffed, but we did wait nearly 20 minutes just for our wine. The ambiance though was very off-putting. It's crowded and when you have a member of your party that uses a wheelchair, it's VERY hard to maneuver, let alone get through the door. The place hasn't been deep-cleaned in years. There's dust caked to the vents, spiderwebs hanging in every corner, and the carpet was black and sticky in some spots. All of this and the prices were Alexandria style prices, inflated. read more

We've been going to Via Veneto since we moved here 10 years ago. I can honestly say that we had never had a bad meal. Sometimes service was a little slow but the quality of the food always made up for it. We thought they were closing but while still opened they are clearly winding down business. Tonight, after a week of exhausting medical treatments, we just wanted something reliable. For the first time ever my chicken parmesan tasted burned. I chalked it up to a little too much time on the grill. Not a big deal. I couldn't eat much but I really just wanted dessert. The first thing I ordered wasn't available. So I ordered the Tiramisu. I've had it before - it's good - except when you get a piece with a big, long hair in it. I asked our server for a new piece after pointing out the hair. (against my better judgement but I haven't had much of an appetite and I really wanted dessert). He brought me back the same piece with a big chunk cut out (where the hair was, at least) and when we asked for our check, he vanished and a new server gave it to us. He did not apologize nor did they comp the dessert. I just didn't have the energy to say anything else at that point. They are clearly ready to close and it that's fine. That was our last visit. Wow. One word. This place blew my mind. It was so yummy and the portion was large enough that I had two meals. I ordered the chicken parmigiana. The chicken was well baked and breaded. Only thing is I had to make my own garlic bread at home with the plain sliced bread they gave me. Still though, cannot wait to order again! Superb service and fabulous food. The spaghetti carbonara is the absolute best I've ever had. One of my friends had the lasagna and I'll for sure give that a try soon. This is a bit of a hike from my house but well worth the trip and I'll be making the trip again soon. It's a little pricy but the portions are not skimpy. Showed up at 6:30pm and got served dinner at 8:30pm. 2 hours for a basic pasta meal. I understand small restaurants like this get busy and it was on a Friday night but to wait 2 hours for dinner is unacceptable. Don't sit that many people if your chef can't keep up. We had a 3 year old with us and she was beyond done at that point. And when our food was finally served one of our guests had to wait an additional 30 mins for her dish after they served the rest of us. Don't bring out the dishes for the table until they are all ready as we felt bad then eating in front of her as she waited for a half hour.... Not to mention the waitresses never cleaned up our bread dishes or any dishes unless we had to make it clear the dishes were piling up.... We chose this restaurant because it is in our neighborhood and thought it would be better and quicker than a chain. But even at the busiest chain I've never waited 2 hours to be served dinner.
