The general consensus is that brunch happens between 11 am and 4 pm. The typical brunch menu has a wide variety of breakfast foods, catering to different brunch preferences. My partner, our friends, and I have been several times to Sergio's Missione, located on Mercer Street in Lodi, for dinner and wanted to try their recently announced brunch. Upon arrival, we waited 15 minutes until one of the staff recognized us and got a table in their cozy and casual main dining room. OpenTable confirmed our reservation. Their Sunday morning menu features breakfast and lunch with a brunch buffet. Don't expect a grand buffet. It was basically a breakfast/lunch combo consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage patties, home fries, French toast, chicken francese, pasta, and green salad. The price was reasonable at $12.99. The buffet was tasty, delicious, and could have been a bit hotter. It pains me to inform that the service was very slow. We were greeted by the owner and made small talk before it started to get busy. We'll stick with dinner.

When I was in there, I saw the stuffed bread. After a bit of a conversation about what was in them I opted to get two of them one with broccoli Rabe And one with mixed vegetable vegetables. Boy were we both unhappy with what we got. My boyfriend's father found his braciole and sauce to be so salty it was inedible. He likes food and he is rarely disappointed in an Italian meal. But he said it was so bad that he couldn't even eat it. He ended up throwing it away. I was equally disappointed. Maybe more so. There was no way that vegetable roll was made that day let alone any sooner than two days before. It was so stale. It was hard as a rock. And I hadn't even heated it up. I cut into it right after I brought it home. It also tasted stale. I ended up throwing it away too. Broccoli Rabe roll was a tad better. It wasn't hard as a rock. But it wasn't fresh either. It tasted meh. The only thing I was happy with are the prepackaged taralli. They were imported and were lovely. Go there for the prepackaged imported food products. Don't waste your money on the dicey homemade food experience.

Amazing deli and pasta shop with charm and ambience of the old days when Sicilian delis like these…read morewere the norm across America's urban scene. Nestled in an old world-like, half Sicilian half Albanian neighborhood, right across from the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Montevergine, the entire experience took us pleasantly back in time ... salumeria along the wall, aged provolone hanging from rope, and just about every handmade delicacy you could imagine.....and some new ones we hadn't seen before... Then there's .... the bread..... the bread.... Nowhere in America is there bread like this. This is the real deal (NOT the chain supermarkets--you know who you are) that offer supposedly "Italian" or "French" bread with marshmallow softness attributed to all the preservatives and polysorbate 80. No Signore, this bread contains all the goodness of that crispy crunchy exterior with pure angelic cloud interior that melts in your mouth! Bread this good can be eaten as dessert... (if there aren't any cannolis around).... Yeah they got those here too... We couldn't decide, and we were running late so we ended up grabbing a loaf of semolina bread just in from the oven and a container of Sicilian olives (with pits! Don't waste my time with pitted olives that taste like salted cardboard). Could say more but why? Veni e guarda (look and see for yourself)... Highly recommended. We'll be back! Ce' vediamo dopo.

Fun Fact: Lodi is the home to two Italian-American institutions worth celebrating... Mr. Anzalone…read more(who turns 70 in June of 2025!) and Vitamia (nipping at his heels with about 60 years of being in the biz). I've made my way here now a few times and for whatever reason - Siri will only get me to the general area but just won't 'accept' Vitamia's specific/actual address. (I know I've 'arrived' when I see the crisscrossing of American and Italian flags at the start-and-end of the blocks denoting a very little Little Italy portion of the town.) And don't get me started on how jacked the entire length of Harrison Avenue is - causing my poor car's suspension and axle to suffer - or how much gas I usually waste when continually circling the block looking for a (legal) parking spot. Crankiness aside... for a small 'basic' deli they sure do pack a punch. An incredible selection of legit (crunchy) breads, a slew of prepared platters and meals in the refrigerated cases, all sorts of goodies hanging from hooks and then there's the freezer with an absurd amount of specialty ravioli, tortellini, tortelloni, mezzelune, cappelletti, gigante, agnolotti, fagottini... Two guys behind the counter (casually speaking Italian to each other) are able to keep up with all the foot traffic (that never seems to let up) and a few guys manning the ovens in the back that are continually refilling the metal bins by the cash register. (With 800 days of Duolingo under my belt I was tempted to try, "È delizioso. Mi dai la ricetta?" when leaving but flaked out and just went with, "Grazie mille!" which... fell flat.) Parking (as mentioned before) stinks. For every item I've tried and loved (stuffed breads, stuffed pastas) there's been a few that were major disappointments, unfortunately. Their pricing is a tad too rough on my wallet. On a prior visit I dropped over $80 and I made a mental not to not do that again. Most recent visit? Over $100. So, yeah... that's not good. (And just in case you give a hoot - Glenn Anzalone is better known by his stage name of 'Danzig'. Now go and crank some early Misfits songs and thank me later!)

The space looked modern, with wonderful decors and interior. They also had shaded outdoor seating, hightop tables and a huge bar as well. We started the lunch with blackened Octopus with mango salad (appetizer special of the day), that was a really good dish. The clams casino was an interesting, baked top on a citrusy sauce. For entree, we ordered the Chilean Sea bass, that had a very well cooked filet, but the risotto didn't taste good to me. I got had the Branzino that had extra crispy grilled skin, but the fish itself survived from being dry. The kale was good and mash potato was decent. My daughter liked her penne pasta with butter and cheese. We wanted to get some mocktails, but they were out of virgin mojito, per the server. Not sure how was that possible!!! The disappointing part of the lunch was the mediocre service. Even though I mentioned it was a birthday celebration in the reservation, no one bothered to wish or ask us if we were celebrating anything. Our server only had to attend our table, yet he only came by three times, once to ask us about water, then to take our order, and once after our appetizers were served. Half of the time he invisible and rest of the time he was just hanging out by the register area stairs, chit chatting with other staff members. We refilled our own water and had to grab other stuff members to get extra plates and utensils. I was super annoyed to pay premium price only to experience a diner like service. I didn't even bother to order the Zeppole from the dessert menu. I paid the check and we walked out as quickly as we could.
