This is I think the third time at Amarone and it was amazing as always. Fantastic service, friendly atmosphere and a very clean place for a great meal. They have a nice outdoor patio as well as nice roomy seating areas inside. I enjoyed some delicious spaghetti with meatballs and hot sausage. The sauce was delicious with some great smoky flavor. The bread they serve is warm and fantastic. I enjoyed some delicious oysters and fried calamari as an appetizer too. Finished off dinner with a double espresso and I was so full I had to practically crawl out of the place. I will be back! read more

Living in Bergen County, NJ, close to Manhattan, there are many options for Italian food. Opened in 1998 across the street from the Holy Name Hospital on Cedar Lane in Teaneck, my partner, our friends, and I decided on dinner here as first-timers for some of us inside a renovated carriage house. Parking is limited in front of the restaurant, but one can park on a nearby side street or across the street in a parking lot. We had dinner reservations for a party of 7 on Saturday night by calling the main line to Amarone, clearly popular with the locals. Upon arrival at this small, quaint establishment, my partner, our friends and I were greeted by one of the owners and seated promptly in one of their dining rooms at a table covered with white tablecloth. The vibe was relaxed with dim lighting. The menu is varied, serving authentic and traditional Northern Italian fare. There's a separate menu of the day's specials. For appetizers, we decided on some specials consisting of Fried Zucchini Flowers, Pear Salad, Oyster Cocktail, Homemade Crab Cake, Calamari Fritti, and Mista Salad. Our main entrees were Lasagna, Linguini Vongole, Beef Meatballs, and Penne Con Carciofi. Complimentary bread started our meal. The food was expertly prepared to perfection. The ingredients used were fresh, and those flavors were familiar and comforting. The pastas were perfectly cooked, and the sauces were rich and delightful. Portions were spot on. After our meal, the staff brought a complimentary pumpkin tartufo with a lit candle to celebrate a friend's birthday.   The restaurant management made sure one felt at home, and the owners Nick and Nick would check on us periodically. Our server Juan Carlos was knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating. The prices weren't really for budget-sensitive patrons. Yet at the same time, they were quite reasonable, especially given the overall excellence of the dining experience.   If you haven't been here, you should. We had dinner outside on a July night - The Osso Bucco was very tender and gnocchi's pretty good as well. Jimmy, the waiter brought us out some nice Italian bread and virgin olive oil organic from Italy. Nice touch. We actually started with the Caprese salad, which had a delicious roasted red pepper on top. Very nice touch! My colleague is a bit finicky with his taste, doesn't like cheese or anything, but he had two massive pieces of very nice chicken just the way he likes it. Seasoned well. Everyone was satisfied. Water was refilled promptly. Service was excellent. Dinner was amazing. My daughter had the steak and said it was tasty. Husband had the duck - perfectly crispy on the outside and moist on inside. I had the salmon, it could have been cooked a tad longer but that is my own personal preference. My fiancé and I ordered the grilled octopus as our appetizer, which came with cannellini beans. I would have never thought of the two paired, but it was surprisingly good. I then ordered the Black Linguine Tuttomare as my entree dish. It came with homemade black pasta, shrimp, calamari, mussels, clams, garlic and tomato sauce, this dish was also just good. Celebrated my moms birthday here covid style and it was a hit amongst our family! Got to try a few dishes including the fried calamari, grilled octopus, lobster ravioli, black linguini tutto mare, veal, and a chicken dish which were all so deliciously prepared. BUT if I were to choose the absolute essentials you MUST order from here, you really cannot go wrong with the grilled octopus and black linguini... both dishes were so yummy and truly like no Italian food I've had in this area. In particular, it was my first time trying octopus and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I found myself grabbing for more. I think a restaurant that can make octopus appetizing is a true winner in my book :-) To top it all off, our waiter was soo friendly-he constantly checked up on us and struck up conversation every so often which added a very personal touch to the service. He even brought out a few extra candles in an attempt to keep us warm from the cold October evening which was very considerate. Street parking with outdoor dining offered, and the interior is a lot bigger than I thought from an outside view. Staff is very nice & helpful with questions. But I gave it a mediocre review because I felt the food & presentation were, well....mediocre. And there is nothing wrong with that. Nice menu that has a lot of choices at VERY fair prices.From the interactions I saw, they have a very faithful, regular customer base. Restaurants like these succeed because you probably get a good meal at a very decent price consistently. Enough said. ( Note: I know people who order chicken parm at EVERY Italian restaurant they go to. Why? Because there are no " bad" surprises. ) I assume that's the rationale of this steady crowd. It's a good place for a good meal. After work. Instead of cooking. I can't recall what we had as it has been approx 2 months and nothing really POPPED out and said wow. It is the season when you have these corporate Christmas dinners. This year we were all invited to Amarone in Teaneck NJ. Amarone is an Italian restaurant, and we had reserved a section in their establishment for 18 people. The restaurant is located in a neighborhood with street parking. It is a cozy looking place, and the section we were in was nicely set up. The 2 course men was set, and we had the choice of 5 entree's with veggies or pasta, and a salad to start with. I looked like everybody enjoyed their choice--for myself it was an okay meal. Due to a set menu you are limited we're to choose from. It makes it easier for the kitchen, and all guest pay the same amount, so no hustling needed when the bill comes. You know how some folk be! Sodas and other drinks were not included, so when people asked for that the waiters repeatedly mentioned, "You have to pay that separately." Which was kind of awkward at times. Main courses were Crispy Branzino (with skin), Rainbow Trout with lump crabmeat - we could not decide so each of us ordered one of either and shared. We came here for dinner this evening. As soon as I walked in the door, I felt welcome. The atmosphere is very home like as it feels like you are dining in someone's home. The entire staff here is so kind, professional and very attentive. The service here was spectacular. The fried calamari was perfectly cooked. The red sauce that complimented it was very tasty. The olive oil for the bread was very tasty and you can tell a lot by the olive oil they use for the table. The linguine with white wine garlic sauce was very tasty. It was simple, not overly oily (something that often happens in Italian restaurants). The lasagna was very beautiful and hearty. I did not try the lasagna as I do not eat meat but the presentation was beautiful. A lot of meat, slightly sweet sauce with a generous amount of cheese (I have asked those that tried the lasagna). Staff is consistently on top of everything but at points interrupted a little too much and weren't super friendly; but it was a slow night and perhaps at the end of the day they just wanted to be done. The food and wine were phenomenal. We got a bottle of one of their white wines which was perfect and ordered the lobster and pumpkin ravioli. Portions were small (about 7 pieces) but still delicious, we did order the fried calamari to round things out (this plate was not the best). I dined alone at Amarone on a moderately busy night, after calling ahead to be sure I could be seated. I was treated with respect by all staff and received exemplary service. I ordered two specials: crab cake with green salad for appetizer, with an excellent Sauvignon Blanc. The crab cake was delicious--all crabmeat, nicely herbed and very generously sized. It honestly would have easily been shared by two, but I was hungry after only having fruit for lunch. The hangar steak with mushroom risotto, also a special, was outstanding. Perfectly medium rare as ordered with a tangy sauce and the perfect amount of mushroom risotto. Interestingly the risotto mushrooms were half shiitake (amazingly flavorful) and half porcini (fine but nowhere near the wow of the shiitake). My plate was completely clean. Dessert of a light but intensely flavorful almond cake paired with cappuccino was the perfect finish. My waiter made a rather forceful counter-recommendation yo my choice of wine with entree. It was very good, and picked the same--and was a fine pairing. But a less relaxed diner might have had their feathers ruffled by his insistence. Supporting staff were ever-ready to clear a plate, answer a question or deliver a course. The bar area in my opinion is a fun spot to sit--lots of windows snd regulars' intersections with each other and the host. The inner rooms do not have windows and are noisier. Very clean bathrooms. I've been eating at Amarone for 10+ years and it is my favorite restaurant. It's always fresh and prepared perfectly- never disappoints! Last night we shared the mussels and salad as appetizers and I had the fish special (monkfish with fresh crab on top) and it was amazing. My son had pasta- also delicious with a garlic & oil type sauce. The garlic was roasted to sweetness and didn't have that "post garlic" feeling. Finished it off with lava cake. You might not know that you have Italian family members in NJ until you walk into Amarone. As soon as we crossed the threshold we were greeted with the warmest welcome ever experienced in a restaurant with crisp white tablecloths. (And by "we" I mean one adult and 2 kids weary from hours spent in Friday traffic - not the typical Friday date night or cocktail crowd that we saw around us.) The level of service did not lag at any point in the meal. From the waiter to the food runner to the busser, all were impressively polite and items were served in a fine dining manner despite our casual shorts and sandals attire. (Hunger drove us there with little thought to dress code.) Now the food! All was outstanding! We started with an app special of Zucchini blossoms stuffed with cheese. While I've had these elsewhere, this was the first time the delicate flowers could actually be tasted. It was just a mild enough floral that I could appreciate it but my children could focus more on the fried cheese component. The bed of greens underneath was actually a small salad. Overall this dish was an absolute win for the table. Served with a spicy aioli that, while tasty, we deemed unnecessary. For dinner the waiter enthusiastically offered to make any variety of standard Italian dish the kids wanted that wasn't in the menu (spaghetti & meatballs, etc). One chose chicken parmigiana and was served a generous portion of a very well made dish. The other opted for Pappardelle con Funghi from the menu. The sauce was robust in flavor but not heavy or overpowering and there was a delightful mix of mushroom varieties all atop a mound of beautifully wide pappardelle. My Black linguine Tuttomare was exceptional. I chose this on a whim, inspired by the pasta itself. As I typically don't care for clams & tend to max out at just a few mussels, the fact that I enjoyed everything in this dish was such a delight. The mussels & clams were the most tender I've had in years, the calamari also. Not a hint of "chew" to anything but the pasta (in a good way). The black linguine flavor was mild & very well complemented by the chunks of roasted garlic in its fresh, velvety tomato sauce. Somehow this dish was filling but not heavy. All portions were quite generous and leftovers made a wonderful lunch the day after. With little room for dessert, we ordered one limoncello gelato to go. Concerned it would melt, they thoughtfully packed it in a second container of ice. I managed 2 bites before my son polished it off in the car. The outer portion was bright and tart, while the center contained a contrasting sweet lemon curd. Outstanding together! The kids loved that it came from Italy & enjoyed deciphering the Italian on the cup. We highly recommend Amarone! There was no rushing us through the meal or out the door. I found the menu to be confusing and not a well organized prefix. Very small appetizers. And my pappardelle was not good at all. Not worth $200 leaving hungry and dissatisfied. read more
