This is one of my favorite places to go to on Shem creek! I really like the laid back atmosphere and how it's a little less crowded then most place! In my option it has one of the best views on Shem Creek. They also have a really cool down stairs bar called Muddy's with a good happy hour! I really enjoy the jerk chicken salad it is a generous portion and has really good flavor. My boyfriend usually gets the Western burger with fries and a side of gravy (he swears by their gravy and fries deff recommend) and he also says the burger is one of the best he has had! We love coming her and sitting out on their deck while grabbing a few drinks and a bite to eat. The staff is super friendly. My only complaint is that some of their food is just okay and the don't have any frozen drinks which is disappointing. But, I usually just settle for their muscle relaxer and it does the job! read more

It was my sister in law's birthday and we had a party of six. They will not let you split the check. We even asked if we could sit at different tables and we're still told no. Love this seafood yummy, when Im in Charleston I stop here to get my seafood fix! Everything is seasoned to perfection. All the food taste fresh and not frozen, they give you enough food for 2 people, if want to share. The view alone is worth stopping, lot of people hanging out and walking the pier. Vickery's has been a little hit or miss for me in the 4-5 times I've eaten there. Some of its food is downright amazing while others suffer from inconsistent execution. For starters, it's an older establishment--one of the long running Shem Creek restaurants on the water. Great views from the deck seating--Dolphins, pelicans and shrimp boats galore. The dining room could use some freshening up--dusty crusty booths and chairs. Moving on to the food, for starters, the fried green tomatoes rank up there with some of the best in the Lowcountry. I have not found thicker, greener, fresher tomatoes anywhere else. Served with marinara, feta and pesto, they are fantastic. Same goes with the oyster bisque, which is touted as winning 1st prize in a food festival. Moving on to entrees, the seafood jambalaya delivered with its shrimp, sausage, crawfish and scallops. The seafood baskets were good, with the shrimp being better than the scallops, some of which were undercooked. The crabcakes have been underwhelming--the breading to crab meat ratio being too high. In short, Vickery's appetizers have delivered on a more consistent basis and I wonder if taking a tapas approach to eating here might equate to a better experience. However, if it can just tighten the quality control of its entrees up a notch, Vickery's can easily reestablish itself as one of the best choices on the creek. (3.25 stars). read more

Vickery's Bar & Grill is not going to wow you with it's five star food, but you go to Vickery's to have a beer on a warm afternoon and enjoy the view that Shem Creek has to offer. Vickery's is located right by Shem Creek Park, which makes it a great place to go if you want to fuel your soul with a nice little nature walk and fuel your body with a nice beer. There are multiple areas of this compound. There is seating on the back deck, a bar on the front deck, indoor seating, and even an outdoor bar on the ground level out back. My wife and I came here on a beautiful January Charleston day where the temperatures reached about 70 (still can't get over the fact that is a thing). We sat on the front deck. This area is mostly just for enjoying a drink, but you can also order off of the menu. The menu is your basic fried seafood fare. We ordered the crab hushpuppies, which I actually thought were very good. There was a lot more crab meat than I expected. The beer selection here is pretty good. They don't have anything on tap at this bar area, but they do have multiple local cans and bottles. The bartender on my visit was very friendly and attentive. It was a pretty busy day, because of the weather, and I never had to wait for a drink. I would recommend Vickery's for a casual beer and beautiful view. Great service, wonderful views of the Charleston Harbor with outdoor deck. The interior was well designed and easy navigable. The food was excellent. I got appetizers as my meal which was the Bourbon Shrimp which was to die for with a nice rich bourbon flavor and goes well with the stick bread that came with it. Also I had a cup of gazpacho which tasted ok, the tomato purée tasted fresh and flavorful and the crème fresh was well made as well. I will be returning to this restaurant and might try some other things. One little note for anyone going, the appetizers are more of what to be ordering here, no hate on the entrees it's just the appetizers fill you up like an entree and are more appealing! read more

A friend recommended this restaurant, which is located on the water. We were first seated outside where we immediately saw dolphins swimming in the channel next to some paddle boarders! It was the coolest thing! We decided it was too cold to sit outside, so we asked to be seated inside. The hostess wasn't miffed, but she was very monotone from the moment we walked in. We were seated inside with a gorgeous view of the nautical scenery. The inside of the restaurant was retro seventies. There were old seventies ceramic ash trays on the wall...it was cute and fun! We had the fried green tomato tower as an appetizer, and it was so incredible! So tasty!! And impressive! I had the pesto shrimp and scallop penne pasta. It was SO good! The portion sizes are large, so I couldn't finish all of the entree. My daughter had the salmon salad. It too was huge, so she couldn't finish her meal either, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. Came in to Vickery's on a breezy cool-ish Friday night with guests in town to celebrate a birthday. We wanted to show our guests Shim Creek, and this place provided a lovely view to admire the ambiance. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather for an outside dinner, which made the experience great! The drinks were good- ordered a $6 Deep Eddy's Peach Punch, which was pretty tasty! The appetizers were great- we had fried green tomatoes, which came with feta cheese here, which we loved! And also the grouper fingers- which we would highly recommend. I would say the entrees weren't quite as good as the apps, but were still good. I had the LowCountry Buffet over the Cuban Rice, which was very good. My guests has the Shrimp and Grits and the Jambalaya, both of which were excessively SPICY, to the point where I believe the menu should denote this. We contemplated sending a meal back, but ultimately decided to just take it home and put it over white rice to cut the heat. Won't be ordering those two menu items again but the sandwiches looked good and we would definitely come back for appetizers in the future. It was lovely to sit outdoors and have the breeze to keep us bug-free and cool, and then we were able to walk off dinner with a nice stroll down the boardwalk. You know something's up when the place is empty but every restaurant around it is packed. I could go on and on about our terrible experience but in the end, for 3 ppl we spent over $100 on cold pasta, overcooked scallops, and to top it off their "amazing" bacon jalapeno Mac and cheese is literally mac and cheese with bacon bits sprinkled on top... No jalapenos. We had to ask where our salads were an hour into the experience which were brought to us on hot plates and right before dinner came so there was no room in the table. First off, the photo is obviously not that of Vickery's Bar and Grill, which sits on Shem Creek down at the other end from Water's Edge. That being said, climb their stairs and enter the restaurant we did, and were seated quickly on what was a quiet night inside, as there was an oyster roast with live band outside. Loud out there, but not noticed inside unless someone opened a door. The restaurant sits up (as it is on the 2nd floor) and thus has a good view of the marsh and due to the "Supermoon" we saw quite a bit of water also, stopping at the end of the evening to enjoy the view from the outside deck, which was too chilly for eating outside, although that is certainly allowed at one of the many tables out there. We both had the $5 barbeque sandwich. To me, the price (which included fries) was the best part. It was, to me, an overly sweet sauce on the barbecue and a bit much on the sauce also. The sandwich's bread was your standard hamburger bun. The fries needed some flavor, which I added with salt and with pepper. (I usually put only pepper on my fries--go figure!) Why four (4) stars you ask with that review above? The server was wonderful, coming back and not forgetting us, even though we were talking and not selecting our meal for a couple of her visits. She was not intrusive and did not appear to be upset that two people could not decide any quicker. Thus, at tip time, I went above 20%, which she deserved. read more

When we moved to town this was one our favorite stops right away and The patio has a great view of Shem Creek. We typically ordered a fish fry or just an appetizer. We took some out-of-town friends here this week and we're disappointed. It was rather windy so we sat inside and unfortunately the dining room is terribly outdated and dingy. My friend ordered the Cuban sandwich which he noted had very little flavor. it was served with an odd bottle of Goya sauce that was more like watery chicken broth and added nothing to the sandwich. I ordered the jambalaya..it was obvious to me that this had sat on a steam table for hours before being microwaved. The mixture was overcooked and very dense and there was a pool of oil in the center of the plate. Other friend ordered the jerk chicken..and again everything seemed pre-cooked and just microwaved. I can only imagine how difficult it is to run a restaurant in the Covid era but this kitchen needs some serious help. Hiring an executive chef that only cooks to order could elevate this place to a gem. read more

After ordering our food took an hour to come out. Poached eggs on the Benedict overcooked and biscuit dry. Other food very average. We did enjoy the cheese grits. I've been to Vickery's a handful of times and have just never left impressed. The parking is just shy of impossible (I live about a mile away and it's usually closer and faster to just walk there). The restaurant tilts to the side, so if you find yourself sitting in a booth you are basically slanted sideways - and hopefully you find a booth that isn't lumpy and falling apart. The views are breathtaking... if you can find a seat on the outside patio. Every time I've been here the staff has treated me like a regular, which is great except sometimes they're a little TOO casual and aren't really responsive and are somewhat distracted. The beer list could be better and the food is meh. Not my favorite Shem Creek location. read more

My boyfriend and I went out to get a drink on a Saturday night. We brought our dog and he was a service dog but we left the tag in the car and said we would get it. We brought him upstairs because downstairs was too busy. It was 9:50pm. I was 21 celebrating my 22nd birthday 2 days before hand. They told me my dog couldn't be up there and that anybody who was under the age of 23 wasn't allowed to drink at muddies after 10. It's just wild that i couldn't prove that my dog was a service animal and the fact that I couldn't get a drink at 21 after 10. They weren't nice or respectful so I would ditch that place if you wanted to go out under the age of 23 or be bringing a service animal. read more

More like a 3.75. I try to keep a open mind right now since restaurants have gone through hell since the pandemic started. Especially when it comes to service. So many places are under staffed. This place has old school fish house vibes with fantastic views on the water of Shem Creek. It was not too busy when we arrived and was seated on the patio in a few minutes. Our waitress was super nice and hustled as I was watching her work way more tables than she should. We started off with a couple drinks, a beer and a mixed drink and ordered the fried green tomato tower and crab puppies (their spin on hush puppies). Drinks and appetizers came quickly. The fried green tomatoes with the feta, pesto, and marinara mixture were fantastic. Some of the best I've had. It just works. The crab puppies were to die for. They had crab meat and corn mixed in with just a touch of sweetness and were moist. The Cajun dipping sauce was the perfect addition for the puppies. Our waitress came by to ask how the appetizers were and take our orders and additional drinks. This is where things got off track. We placed our order and asked for another beer. It was almost a hour before our waitress appeared again and no food or drink had been brought to our table. However she was working frantically to keep up with the other tables on the patio. Eventually we asked another waitress that came by to check on our food and drink. About ten minutes later our waitress brought out our food in a rush and I just did manage to mention that I was still waiting on another drink. She asked me what drink and I told her. The drink came about five minutes later. Now to the food. I ordered the flounder platter. My wife ordered the jambalaya. It was Luke warm but not cold. The fish was cooked nicely breaded and flakey and was not greasy. The fries did not have any seasoning. I managed to grab some salt and pepper from a vacant table so I wouldn't have to wait and ask. The coleslaw was a disappointment. It was basically chopped up cabbage. No mayonnaise or vinegar that I could taste. My wife said the jambalaya was good but way too greasy. She showed me the grease in the bottom of the dish. I forgot to take pictures since it has been so long waiting for the food. There was another table of four that we overheard had sent food back twice and the manger came to talk to them. Our waitress was their server. Back to my original point. Places are understaffed. I don't know if that was the case here but I suspect it was. Although we watched as table after table that were seated after us get served their food long before we got ours. Kitchen mistake? Server mistake? Who knows. I didn't complain and we tipped 20%. I definitely will go back because the food, especially the appetizers were good. Things happen. Mistakes get made and we are all human. Having said that, the lower score despite the decent food has more to do with the service. read more

While visiting Shem Creek Park, I decided to stop by at Vickery's and get a quick bite to eat. The place had a relaxing vibe, where you can just come with a group and have fun. I also liked the view from their patio (too bad I couldn't hang out there because they were hosting a wedding). I sat at the bar and thought the service was okay and could have been better. I tried their Bourbon Butter Shrimp and it was amazing. I couldn't have enough of it, and was very close to getting another order of it. I didn't stay here long, but I liked the restaurant. I have gone to Vickery's many times. And I have never written a review. But I went last night and was not impressed. I had a tough time figuring out what I wanted because I don't really like seafood. I chose Vickery's because I wanted the ambiance of being on the coastline. I ordered the fried chicken and it was literally chicken tenders. If I knew I was ordering chicken tenders I wouldn't have paid so much. My cousin ordered a mixed drink and there was dirt, literal dirt floating on top. My husband ordered the grouper, and he is a fish lover, he 100% knew it wasn't grouper. He said it had no flavor at all and was not the texture of a grouper. I really wish we chose a different place to go. The food sucked and I wouldn't go back. At least the sunset was nice ‍ read more
