The new owners of Vics did an amazing job keeping the original feel and some menu items of the old time greasy spoon breakfast spot this used to be while making it feel totally updated and modern. I give Vic's 3 stars solely based on the fact that there service is lacking...Except for the usually friendly gal that often times works the front counter...I lover her honesty! Their food, is good, I especially like that they know how a French dip should taste. Burgers are Big, Breakfast is good, and everything on the menu has a name...named after a coach. I often times become a little frustrated at the fact that out of the 5 + chicken sandwiches they offer, none of them just comes with lettuce & tomato...I always have to customer order my chicken sandwich...but it doesn't seem to bother them. I always know what I'm getting into when I come to Vic's! I can expect to be waited on by a charming staff, and at times, Vic himself! I can expect the coffee to be hot and strong, the food consistently good, the portions are generous, the price fair. We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years. Now it is under new ownership, just as we deal with Covid-19. The new owners are doing a great job and we have gotten take out lunches several times over the last 2 months. The staff gave all been friendly and helpful. The food has been delicious! Terrible. The food left my husband with a stomach ache. All we had were eggs which should be hard to screw up but they did it. My potatoes were 20 degrees hotter than my dry, room temperature omelet. The avocado they used had oxidized - either it was past it's prime or the cook thought he could prep avocado (ya can't). The hollandaise sauce on my husband's eggs formed some sort of shell before it had arrived to the table. As far as ambiance goes it's not great but I could get over it if the food were edible. The men need to wear unstained Vic's tee shirts. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. So there's that (she should try to work some place better). read more

Being that we eat here every weekend you can say I'm a fan. To be honest, it really is the people that we keep coming back for, more than the food. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but all of the staff has become an extended family for us. Ms. Patti is always ready to great us with a hug and is the best with kids. I hate to do this because I've never had a bad experience with Vic's but today was something I've never seen and working in the food service industry for the many years was actually very disturbed by. Called in a to go order for my office across the street it was first of all wrong, the eggs Benedict had the sauce in them when we asked for it on the side. My eggs where over hard when they where supposed to be over easy. The order for scrambled eggs and bacon was not even in the bag I picked up so I walked back over fine no big deal. The icing on the cake was when I was charged an 18% Gratuity on a TO GO order. I asked the cashier why this happened when I attempted to leave an extra tip she's the one that told me that there was already gratuity added to the bill. Again . The TO GO ORDER. This is TERRIBLE and apparently Tami is the manager and she is the one the tip goes to because she "happened to answer the phone and take my order". Yesterday's time change resulted in us out and about earlier than usual. Hub's favorite place didn't open 'til 10, so we decided to give Vic's a try. When we arrived the restaurant was about 2/3 full, so we were seated quickly. However, we were put at a table that had been cleared but was still a mess, with lots of food and crayons under the table. The hostess zipped off before we could say anything, so we stood around until we could flag down an employee to come sweep up the debris. After he left and we sat, we realized the table and chairs were pretty sticky, so we had to clean those ourselves with the paper napkins. Since this wasn't our intended destination, I hadn't checked Yelp before starting out. This led to the mistake of ordering the waffle/sausage combo. The sausage links were very fatty, but tasty. The waffle, on the other hand, was a huge disappointment--cold, pale and soggy. However, my daughter (who wanted a pancake to begin with) slathered the sad-excuse-for-a-waffle with butter and syrup, then gobbled it up, so it wasn't a total loss. Hub had the linguica and cheese omelet. The egg was thin and tender, filled with lots of nicely browned sausage and cheese. His wheat toast was thick-cut and perfectly toasted. I liked his hash browns, but he prefers them crisper. I really wanted to like this restaurant. It has a fun, hometown, family-friendly vibe. My meal was a big disappointment, and the garbage on the floor and sticky furniture was off-putting, but hub's omelet indicates they can do some things right. The next time we're downtown and craving diner grub, we'd be willing to give Vic's another chance. read more

I can guarantee that if you're a fan of breakfast like I am, the menu at Vic's will have something to satisfy your hunger. A couple of my faves include the ham and cheese omelet (plenty of both in a fluffy egg wrapping, named as all the dishes are after local high school coaches), the waffles (perfectly cooked and hot off the griddle), and the AMAZING hash browns (crispy in the outside; tender on the inside). Went to Vic's for the first time & last time this morning. Our waitress was very pleasant and found it cute that the restaurant had established a history & love of sports that many could reference for greater, past times although felt that they went a little crazy with the decor and may have actually spent more on that than their cleaning bill. We walked in & found it questionabe who the hostess was as there were a few people loitering around the cashier's table. Could not make the difference between customers and greeting since there was no clear welcome. The tables were dirty & falling apart and the food left very little to be desired. No flavor, no seasoning and very bland and nothing fresh. The pancakes were more rubbery than fluffy and the fruit appeared to be a couple of days old. The sausages had more unnatural plump to them than a ballpark hotdog. Nothing like going in and leaving hungry. Even the coffee was bad! In my opinion, Vic's is not the All Star Kitchen. Zero stars would be more appropriate for this place yet somehow that doesn't appear to be an option. read more

This place is typically pretty crowded so we decided to see what all the fuss was about. We went for Sunday brunch and it was about half full. Ordered the egg scramble and the breakfast burrito. Food was actually really good but unfortunately the service wasn't even close to being decent. The breakfast burrito was seasoned perfect, not too greasy and pretty big. I only managed to eat half of it and took the rest home. Probably one of my favorite breakfast burritos in the area. The food came out really quick but as I stated above, the high school wait staff was terrible. They were nice enough but slower than molasses. Had to ask three times where our toast was and when we were done we had to wait at least 15-20 min just for the check and our to-go boxes. My wife and son got so antsy waiting they decided to just head to the car. I was sitting waiting for a while until finally a manager walked by and asked what I was waiting on. Three stars for great quality food (although a little on the pricier side but this is Pleasanton so I'd say average price for the area) but had to deduct two stars because food doesn't mean anything if you don't have the staff to back it up. Laura and her husband, Ernesto, recently bought this place from Vic, who had it for as many years as I can remember. More than 30, certainly. Laura and Ernesto worked here for 23 of those years. Now that Vic has retired they bought the restaurant from him. Tough timing with covid-19 now!! However, they are turning out some really wonderful food. Everything that we've tried has been really outstanding. They are very sweet, and very generous. They have also built a beautiful outdoor patio so that you can keep your social distance. STAY AWAY! Waste of money, nothing we ordered tasted even remotely decent. To start the soda was flat and the water was unfiltered tap water, not even lemon could make it taste better The clam chowder was watery and thin, and I had a funny taste, that I couldn't put my finger on. My second time there I took my daughter to lunch today. She had a steak sandwich, I had a roast beef dip. She loved her NY steak, and mine was loaded with delicious slices of roast beef. The one time I don't check Yelp before going to eat somewhere......ugh! This place is not good. My son's high chair was covered in this thick film of god knows what....I'm assuming old syrup that was never wiped away. Anyway, the eggs were ok, but hash browns were completely inedible and the potatoes were obviously microwaved. It was just gross. My toast was super soggy from the giant amounts of butter. Yuck. Not only our whole entire group was appalled and disgusted by the food and awful service you're going to force adding tips ? Went here for about the third time (other two not memorable) the other day with my husband and toddler as we were waiting for Norm across the street. We were told to seat ourselves which we did, outside. I let the "host" (or whoever) know we would be outside. We waited outside for ten minutes before I went back in and reminded them (nicely) we were outside. They stopped speaking Spanish and glared at me as if I was annoying. After five minutes our menus were brought out. Ten minutes later our order was taken. Fifteen minutes later out came a super lame club sandwich for my husband and my pancake breakfast (can't recall which cheesy coach name it was) with the eggs looking like they were just cooked for less than a minute - runny and overeasy. Arg. I wanted scrambled. The waitress said she would be back in "two minutes" with my eggs. She never came back. She really NEVER came back. Thank goodness she scraped them onto a smaller plate and left me the rest of my meal ((I couldn't make this up!) I went in, asked for the check (she was once again speaking Spanish to a friend standing around) and told her I was appalled at the service I received. She immediately said we did not have to pay anything. Then she blamed her LOUSY service on the fact that for some reason the building did not have water and she had to go to another building - she even blamed another waitress for "forgetting" about us while she was gone. She was a hot mess. So were my pancakes - they were terrible! The coffee tasted instant and the iced tea my husband had was gross. My friend and I wanted to go to a breakfast place that had a T.V. so we could watch the Raider game. We called around town and Vic's was one we came accross that did have 2 T.V.'s and they said they would be happy to turn it on for me. This would be my first time to Vic's. When I went in there I was greeted by an older woman who seemed to be annoyed with my entrance. I guess I did get get there 45 min before closing which I was not aware of. I kindly asked her If she could put the Raider game on and her reply was rudly "Well only if no one else is watching the the game that is on right now" which was only hightlghts of a previous game. She pointed to a man who looked like he may have been watching one of the T.V.'s that were both on the same channel but did not even bother asking him for me so I had to ask him myself. Sure enough the man was not watching the T.V. I told her he is not watching the hightlight on T.V. right now so could you please turn on the game and I thought it might be on channel 5. She said that is Channel 5. And that was all she did she did not even bother to find it for me. Finally a helpful man that worked there looked though the channels and helped me find my game. Our server was very nice and gave excellent service. The french dip that I orderd was very tasty. The roll was crisp. It does not come with cheese so I added cheese for a little flavor. The fries were hot and salted. I noticed all the employee's were cleaning up and the resturaunt was emptying out. So I asked them what time they closed and it seemed like the whole staff said all at once "AT 2"!! So I said sorry cuz it was 2:15. but nobody said anything back to me. I might give this place another try for the food and the table service. But I wont be choosing this place to watch any sporting events since it was such a hassel for the employees there. I dont understand because they seem to have a sporting theme. All the walls are decortated with pictures of local teams and Sandwiches named after coaches. read more

This is my very first yelp review and I'm only writing it to help others save their money. My husband and I just had breakfast here and it was horrible. I ordered my eggs over medium and they were hardly cooked. My bacon was chewy and lacked flavor. How do you screw up bacon? My husband got a scramble and it was mushy and barely cooked. Even the coffee was bad. We were very disappointed to know that we just wasted $30 on meal. If you are looking for a breakfast place in Pleasanton I highly recommend Jim's or Dean's. read more

Unfortunately after walking a little further down Main Street in Pleasanton I realized what a Kitchen Nightmare I had come upon after dining at Vics. For some reason the place looked like a popular local eatery with their outdoor seating nearly full. Looks are deceptive. An extremely outdated menu of unoriginal standards like tuna melts, burgers, taco and chef salads in addition to breakfasts made for some really boring selections. That they were named presumably after local coaching legends didn't make them taste any better. Add that to completely inept wait staff who couldnt remember to replace a soda that lacked syrup, didn't bring food out together to diners, and let a neighboring couple sit and watch every single other table in the place get served before informing them their menu selection wasn't available. My family and I have enjoyed breakfasts here for several years. We went recently and had very poor service. While it was during the Sunday breakfast rush, I expected to at least have our server check to see if we wanted coffee refills--didn't happen. When the food finally arrived, my daughter's scrambled eggs were cold and the omelet I ordered was so runny, I couldn't eat it. The other irritating part of our experience was that when we were seated we had 2 different servers take our drink orders, but neither fulfilled them. And to make matters worse, the wait for our check was INTERMINABLE. Definitely won't be returning anytime soon. We'll stick with Jim's or Dean's! read more
