I always love little family owned places and Vic's is no exception! Very cute and spacey inside; walls are completely covered with neighborhood sports teams! During my visit it was overrun with an older crowd for brunch; very quiet with happy talk. Service was ok but a little slow to take our order and a long wait for our food. Our plates were good and seemed to be named after neighborhood coaches maybe? Either way, very good food in good quantities. Only complaint is that my potatoes weren't cooked all the way. So I went here for an afternoon breakfast, skipping our usual favorite spot (Main Street Brewery). I was immediately put off by the uncharming decor - I'm not a baseball fan, sorry. The cheesy names on the menu weren't too impressive either - and when I ordered an omelet by saying, "I want a cheese and spinach omelet," I really don't think my waitress needed to correct me by calling it a "Babe Ruth" or whatever the hell cutesy name they had for it. Next comes the owner, or at least some lady that wasn't doing much, to tell us, "I'm sorry we're closing because one of the bathrooms is out of order; but since you're already in here you can stay." Gee thanks; in 24 hrs I'm going to wish you'd kicked me out.... Food was greasy and not in a good way: the grease they used on the griddle tasted about three months old (give or take), not good at all. No flavor from anything on the plate except that grease. My companion's salad looked like a heaping mess inside a greasy deep fried taco shell. I only ate half, thank goodness. Next day I spent at home, no more than a short jog from the toilet. No wonder their bathroom was out of order - from overuse. NEVER AGAIN. I'm shocked at how bad the food and service were for a place like Pleasanton. read more

Here's Vic's recipe for a cheese omelet: (1) Cook eggs. (2) Wrap eggs around prepackaged cheese slices. (3) Microwave until melted. (4) Serve. In my case they skipped step (3). I took a couple bites of my omelet and found whole processed cheese slices sitting inside. I brought this to my server's attention, assuming it would be remade. About five minutes later she brought back the same partially-eaten omelet. They'd simply executed step (3). "There you go, now the cheese is melted." Not acceptable. I don't see a reason to go back if this is the level they're working at. It's bad enough that the chef can't melt cheese in an omelet without a microwave. It's worse when they forget to do so. It's appalling that they then don't remake it. read more

The food is usually good. We like the pancakes and eggs. The restaurant is noisy and the service is ALWAYS so slow. They brought my sons meal early, that's good. Then 5 min later brought pancakes for my wife, but failed to bring her eggs or my entire meal. So there we sat with my son eating, my wife's pancakes getting cold and we continued to WAIT and wait and wait for the rest if our meal. I would love to say this is the first time it has happened, however, it has happened before. They comped the meal... Skip the restaurant if you can avoid it. read more

Oh the olden days of Pleasanton Main Street. Vics is an American establishment, along with Dean's Cafe and The Pleasanton Hotel, Vics has been around since I was in elementary school, so about 20 years or so. We used to go here before wrestling matches and other sporting events. Such great food, their omelets and biscuits and gravy were to dies for and to say that you've had their pancakes meant you were welcomed into their secret pancake club (not really that's just how I felt :D ) But this is a slice of americana. Friendly atmosphere with a small town feel and home cooked meals. You can also guess that this place is littered with memorabilia, but not just norcal teams but also local home town heroes., sponsored teams and organizations the business has joined in it's tenured stay on the main street, one of many non-commercial establishments on our main street. (The only two are Round Table; which has been there since when I can remember, and the other is Quiznos.... which I believe is a franchise, so technically it's independent of it's conglomerate). So if you happen to be driving to SF from the 5 to the 580, stop off in Pleasanton for an hour or so and drive down their main street, you'll swear your in Pleasantville or Back to the Future II! My grandma, mom, and I just had breakfast and it was Amazing. My mom has been looking and searching for years for a great biscuits and gravy. She is used to having original southern style biscuits from Oklahoma and it was top-notch at Vic's. They were delicious, absolutely delicious. By far the best I've ever had. And now my mom has found a place to come to get her fix. And on top of the delicious food, our waitress, a pro, was very nice brought extra napkins without having to ask. Thank you Tammy. So, when you go out for breakfast, you really want something kind of special in my book. Or at least good. My husband and I went to breakfast here last week, and really, just not that good. Milk was warm, coffee basically not good at all, pancakes were bland and undercooked, and burnt hash browns. Maybe it was an off day, but honestly, I'd rather make the drive to Katy's Korner in San Ramon for a REALLY good breakfast rather than drop my $25 hard-earned dollars for a mediocre treat. I had my first tuna melt here today. I recently started eating fish (after being vegetarian for about seven years) and hadn't ventured to try a tuna melt yet. So I have nothing to base it on. But I thought it was good. And that's coming from someone who thought she wasn't that crazy 'bout tuna. I got it with a side salad that was OK but not great, but you can choose between salad, soup or fries. I appreciated the server's honesty that we might not want the green-colored split pea soup with ham (not that I would've ordered it anyway). Service was quick and friendly and you were made to feel comfortable even if you weren't a regular. They serve breakfast during lunch, so go when you're having that pancake craving at noon. There's a parking lot in back so you don't have to worry about parking on Main Street if the spaces are filled up. Our server did "encourage" us to pay the check after it had been sitting there for a while after we were finished, but it was still done in a friendly way. One forgotten Saturday a friend emailed me asking if I wanted to get some brunch. "Sure, why not?" was my response. She mentioned this place as awesome and I made my way over. Now, my friend is particular with the food she eats, and she has pretty good taste in what's "awesome," so I went in with blind faith. We got seated under a TV. All you can see is framed pictures of local high school sports teams on their country-style walls. It took about 10 minutes before our waitress came over. I tried to be as polite as I could, but she remained rude and short. I ordered some breakfast platter and a small cran-apple juice. She suggested that I get the larger one because they didn't have refills and that it'd be a better deal. I agreed. About 15 minutes later we got our food. She had actually messed up on my bread order, but I didn't mind because I love all carbs. My juice tasted straight from a cheap, generic juice container and I only took two sips. Came here after waiting for about an hour to be seated at a restaurant down the street. LOVED that they could seat a party of 10 immediately, but the food here wasn't all that good. I got the eggs benedict and it looked like it had been pre-made and then parked under a food lamp for about 15 or 20 minutes. Luckily it didn't taste as bad as it looked. My husband got the corn beef and hash and it looked and tasted like dog food. His potatoes were good and cheesy though and the portions were good. The service was very good and it was nice to not have to wait to be seated. Not sure if I will be going back next time I'm in the neighborhood though. read more

Vic's is a great breakfast & lunch place. Perfect for families with kids. It's lined with team pictures from the local high schools, along with another room full of professional sport memorabilia. Waitress seemed irritated when asking question while ordering food. Ordered a sprite with meal. Mentioned that splitting checks on our table is a favor she extended and that she normally would not do this. Corn beef, eggs and baked potatoes arrived. Overall tasty, but sunny side up eggs still runny (no biggie, love eggs). No sprite, club soda came instead. Requested a change, not once but twice, waitress on the second time declared that club soda is free, and if I wanted sprite I would have to pay for it (novel idea, having to pay for ones food at a restaurant) Still no sprite. After around another 15 minutes, and corn beef in my throat, I got up to the front counter and asked for water and to cancel on my sprite, which I am certain was in the mail. Waitress saw me approach the front desk and as soon as I got back, came by with a look that says 'what is so wrong that I had to see someone else' Before I could respond, the man I spoke to at the front counter already had my water and sprite. All in all, food was okay, but just put off by the waitress. If only she worked with us on the delay rather than trying to bully her way out. read more

Overall I was disappointed by my visit to Vic's. I understand that it was a busy day, as a lot of high schoolers were there that day for brunch. However, the service was extremely poor: we waited 30 minutes to order, despite repeatedly asking the servers and making eye contact with them in an attempt to place our order. When the food finally arrived, two out of three of our orders were wrong, and we didn't receive any toast. Instead of potatoes, we got hashbrowns, and instead of fries, we also got hashbrowns. One of the french toast plates was also missing bacon. The food itself was okay--hashbrowns were mediocre and the omelet had a thin skin but lots of filling--but the overall experience was ruined by the poor service and missing food. As I walk down Main Street I was looking for a great place to go and eat for brunch. I went to Vic's All Star Kitchen because I have heard amazing things about this place. I just finished my food! The pancakes are so good and same with the sausage and bacon! The eggs are good, but watery. The best item on the menu is Coach Jones! Coach Jones is my absolute favorite thing to eat! I work at a salon near by so I decided to drop by and order Togo breakfast since we open at 10am. I was worried about the timing if I'll make it in time with eating and then working after. However, the food came super fast!! I ordered and sat for 5-10 mins and she brought me my food! Wow!! Currently finished eating and it's 9:40! There was a huge portion for reasonable price!! really spacious, you don't feel on the top of the other tables around you -you can have a conversation without having to share it with the people next to you. The down side of all this space is the noise, it is a very busy place especially on Saturday mornings when they have the junior teams and their coaches in the second part of the restaurant. The greeting was genuinely warm and efficient, but our waitress clearly had had a long day and still had a long say ahead as we went at 9 am so unfortunately we did not manage to get a smile from her -but hey ho, nevermind. The staff all looked rushed off their feet. The food was tasty not all that warm , served on plastic plates - it made me feel like I was 5 again. Would go back on a different day just to see if the noise level goes down , food gets warmer, plates turn into something that would keep the heat and our waitress finds in her the power to smile at he customers. read more

Downtown Pleasanton has always been a favorite of mine, having tried many of the great restaurants up & down Main St. So, when my honey and I needed a little lunch after doing a couple errands, we stumbled across Vic's All Star Kitchen, a diner located at the beginning of Main St, once you turn left from Bernal Avenue. We were seated promptly and after looking at the other customer's selections, it looked pretty good. The menu was huge - offering both breakfast & lunch. It was nearing lunchtime, so I decided upon the French Dip - something I don't make at home and my honey got the Chicken Fried Steak. We each ordered our drinks - coffee for me, iced tea for him. Our meal was served quickly - I liked my French Dip and the fries that came with were delish. Our waitress was great and came back often to ensure we had enough drinks, etc. I probably won't make the trek just to Pleasanton for breakfast/lunch, but it's a perfect & reasonable place if you're in town. First time with a friend. We had ordered chicken and waffles, Tres Leches French toast, and an Arnold Palmer. Rough start when I was told half my chicken fell in the kitchen and came back with a meager 2 small tender pieces replacement. Portions were quite small compared to other similar breakfast joints for all our items. The food tasted good but nothing special. Arnold Palmer wasn't good, too heavy on the ice tea. My husband and I just came back today (4-3-21) from having lunch with friends at Vic's All Star Kitchen. It was great being able to eat inside again. The service was very good. My husband had the linguica sandwich with fries and thought it was good. I had the taco salad (since I am a vegetarian and just removed the chicken) which I would not recommend to anyone. It had no flavor. There was no seasoning in it to make it even taste remotely like a taco salad. Basically it was a plain salad with sour cream and some guacamole. Breakfast is by far my favorite meal, and I'm always on the hunt for a good breakfast place. With that being said, this place is TERRIBLE. I Ordered one of the many scrambled "Starting Line Up" breakfast's and here is what i got for $9.95: Corned beef hash ( additional $4.99, which brings my total to almost $15.00), that was awful.. tasted like it was slightly microwaved and 100% straight from a can. No crispiness, no flavor.. barely warm enough to eat. Eggs - scrambled.. looked okay but tasted like Egg Beaters, with no salt (GROSS for anyone who hasn't tried) - with a yellow puddle of liquid underneath them. I don't know about you guys.. but when I order eggs, i don't like them "in natural juices". My husband and I went to Vic's today for breakfast for the first time. We were seated promptly and received drinks promptly! However, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our order to be taken and another 20 minutes for our food to arrive. We noticed that three tables around us were served before us even though they were seated after us. No one checked on how we were doing and had to flag down someone to fill coffee cups. Server never came by to ask how we were doing and seemed ruffled when asked for a "to-go" container. We will not go there again and certainly will not recommend it to anyone. read more

What a great update to an old favorite. The new owners of Vics did an amazing job keeping the original feel and some menu items of the old time greasy spoon breakfast spot this used to be while making it feel totally updated and modern. I'm not a greasy spoon lover and the new version totally impressed me. It's clean, fresh, updated and feels more like a nice brunch spot you'd like to linger. The service is fast and the employees are nice. The food is cheap and yummy! I ordered the waffle but it seemed smaller than I thought. They have outdoor seating too, so you can bring your dog. Inside gets loud when they are busy. It gets crowded on weekends but this place has a family feel that you just can't beat. read more

I go here twice a month for a car club breakfast. The serving staff treat the crazy bunch of folks that file in there just as they open well. They are friendly and helpful, and I'm not sure how they do it but even remember the orders of a number of the regular attendees. I usually order coach SOS, which is eggs hash browns and toast. It's just the right amount of food for me. They do a good job with the eggs, bacon and hash browns, the pancakes are average, and the french toast and sausage are rubbery. The coffee is okay, but not great. It'd say it's on par with the Tully's down the street (which I don't know if that is a point in the favor of Vic's or a point away from Tully's). read more

If you are from the East Coast, this is basically a diner type place. We had brunch here with hubby and toddler. Glad there was an outdoor area and they actually allow dogs there, so it kept my toddler's attention longer then 5 minutes. The food is just OK. Hubby had a waffle, he said it tasted like a box mix (he makes his own from scratch so he can tell).. my cheese omelet was OK, although I kept getting a taste of something funky like old oil or something...fruit salad for my kid wasn't the tastiest mostly melons, unripe. What I disliked the most was probably the cheap plates they use, what are they, plastic? The way it clanked, argh, made me feel like I was eating food in the cafeteria in elementary school. Coffee (black) was good.. I didn't see Mimosas on the list (which I really wanted), and found the menu hard to read as they had funky sportsy titles and you had to read the description to figure out what actually it was. It's a large menu... So if you are a foodie...not your place...We wanted to find a cute local brunch place, but this is definitely not it for us. read more

We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years. Now it is under new ownership, just as we deal with Covid-19. The new owners are doing a great job and we have gotten take out lunches several times over the last 2 months. The staff gave all been friendly and helpful. The food has been delicious!
