We visited this cafe for a brunch on new years eve as family and friends and everything was just perfect. The waiter was very polite and taking care of our needs and we even had a surprise menu tasting option provided by the owner himself. Food was excellent and we decided to make this place our favorite hang out spot based on our experience. Highly recommend this place for a laid back brunch hangout. read more

Came here for breakfast this morning with a friend - ordered the Eggs Benedict for her and a Salmon Burger which came with a side of sweet potato fries, for me. After ordering, we waited a very, very long time before our food finally arrived at our table. Food looked good, but was barely warm. K gave me a bite of her Eggs Benedict and it was a yuck! for me. This entree needed to be hot and fresh, not cool and clammy. Didn't want to make a fuss, and waiter never came back to check on us, so we couldn't say anything at all. We just ate the meal and left a15% tip. Cute place and the outdoor seating was quite nice. My friend and I had a nice chat while we were there, so the experience wasn't a total waste, but we can't say we'd ever return for breakfast on a Friday morning if this is the caliber of their offerings. read more

Very very disappointed today. Have been to Vics many times and usually they are pretty good. Not sure if just came at the wrong time of the day 1:00 on a Sunday, new cook or what?? Hash browns seemed like they had been cooked long ago, very over cooked, oily looking and not even warm to the touch. Ham was cold to the touch. Bacon was very hard, again as of it had been cooked sometime earlier and just sat around for hours. One of the two sausages looked like it was way over cooked on one side, and the other sausage was barely cooked. read more

Run, don't walk! In the other direction. The Mrs and I were looking for a breakfast place this morning, but we wound up at Vic's instead. It has been years since we've eaten there, and now I remember why. Food and service... it deserves negative stars! I ordered the Vic's Special, which is ostensibly their take on the Joe's Special offered at many restaurants. It consisted of an absolutely tasteless burger patty, cut up into pieces, microwaved, and totally unseasoned. It was so tasteless that I had to wonder how old it was. It included melted cheese, about 3 slices of sautéed mushrooms, and wilted spinach, and about half of a large, diced onion. But at least it was served cold...Served cold by a waiter who had real difficulty with the local idiom. He should not be in that role, imho. I'd bet that my rudimentary Spanish was better than his English, but I didn't want to go there. Now make no mistake; I'm not here bagging on someone who had the guts or sense of desperation to leave everything in his life behind, and come to America. I can respect that. What I don't respect is management that puts someone in a situation like that, where he is doomed to failure. But I digress...my cold meal was accompanied by the greasiest hash browns I have ever experienced. I'm writing this two hours later, and I still feel as if I might puke. And I only ate about a quarter of them. I ate less than half of my entree, before deciding that I didn't want to spend my birthday getting my stomach pumped. I just threw my utensils (which I had to ask for) on my half full plate, along with my napkin and creamer. And while I'm on the subject of crap food, they also managed to run afoul of one of my pet peeves. Some restaurants have a habit of keeping stale bread around, electing to use it as toast. I guess they think no one will notice... Back to my plate....which was removed by a young lady about whose language abilities I cannot comment, because she didn't say a word to me. No inquiry as to whether I liked it, nothing about offering a takeout box...nothing. My wife's experience was much the same, especially with respect to wondering why she received so many onions in her omelette. I like my onions as much as the next guy, but this was beyond stupid (see photo). I am not unsympathetic to businesses who have problems finding and keeping quality employees. During the covid craziness of the past couple years, I have gone way, way out of my way to support local businesses such as this. I would think that if you care about your brand, you would invest some time and effort to train your employees, perhaps even being present on a busy Saturday morning. I saw nobody who gave me the impression that they were part of that business' management. Your employees and your clientele deserve better than this sh*t. Huge fail! read more

Had dinner at Vic's last night. They just started serving dinners on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Wonderful menu selection for dinner options. Husband had the Liver and Onions with Clam Chowder and I had the Beef Stroganoff with a Green Salad. My dish tasted like home cooking, served with very hot noodles and a wonderful gravy with the beef and mushrooms. The liver was a large piece and I understood it to be cooked perfectly and was delish. Our server, Dave, was extremely attentive. The owners came to our table and chatted with us (we have been going to Vic's for years) and shared some wonderful stories with us! Such a delightful place with comfort food and extremely hard working people. Expensive for what it is and no price on their specials list. My friend and I ordered the specials, the avocado toast and the peach and shrimp salad. The price was not listed on their menu and the waiter did not know how much it was. He said he didn't know how much off the top of his head and did not volunteer to find out. We figured it could not be that much.....Surprise! It was $26 each, it included an iced tea. The salad was super meager, barely any arugula or goat cheese. Neither dish was worth $20. Was in the area and my son and I decided to give Vic's a try. The atmosphere was good and the place was very clean. All the food coming out to tables looked delicious. I ordered the chili verde breakfast. When I got my food the all star potatoes came a little cool to the touch. The corn tortillas were a little warm , but hard and seemed a little stale. The flavors of the verde breakfast was very good, so I over looked my concern and ate it. My soon had a cheddar bacon omelette with hash browns. He enjoyed his. I had the pleasure of meeting with the owner who refilled my coffee. Pleasant individual. Staff is friendly and attentive. We were out and about and happened along this little gem. There was a skeleton crew due to the holiday and there was only 1 cook. Despite the lack of staff, the server did a great job and the cook rolled out plates that still looked presentable. The kitchen was out of fries and a few other side items. I enjoyed the taco salad and the meat was flavorful. The salad dressing was salsa and thousand islands. I would have loved to have tried salsa with ranch dressing. Maybe next time I can ask for it. My husband enjoyed his BLT and my son polished off his club. My son mentioned the onion rings were very greasy tasting, this was confirmed by my husband's face when he took a bite. I didn't have any complaints other than the wait was a little longer than we anticipated and the kitchen was out of fries. I want ups give the food a 3.5 and the service 4 as I know the staff that showed up to work that day did the best job they could. read more

Found this lovely place by Yelp search! A group of friends heading home from San Francisco decided to give it a try. We hit it at 9am on a Sunday and miraculously got a table for 7 within minutes. Our waiter was awesome, food portions were HUGE, so 2 of us asked to split an order. They split the entire order on 2 plates, down to 11/2 pieces of bacon each! Orange juice fresh squeezed, coffee refills were quick and often. Croissant french toast was the table winner! Overall a fabulous stop! read more

One of my favorite places in Pleasanton! Excellent service and food!!!!! They were incredibly accommodating which is always a plus. I got the coach Fiona and instead of regular pancakes I got banana pancakes (with bananas inside), scrambled eggs, and hash browns with a side of jalapeños. 10/10! I also got a free orange juice for checking in. My friend got the salmon burger with fries and she said it was tasty! My boss got the fiesta chicken salad and was content with his choice! Vic's has always been a staple of downtown Pleasanton. My experience this morning was less than ideal. Arrived at 7:30 am 1 server, still had 1 server at 8:15. Felt terrible for the poor gal. Breakfast and lunches here are wonderfully filling comforts food with more than adequate portions and good the service is polite, prompt, and attentive. This meal was a solo breakfast with my dog Jackson, I had the Texas French toast with eggs and bacon. The staff brought Jackson a bowl of water without any prompting, and gave him more than enough attention. I think both, Jackson and I, can recommend Vic's to be at the top of both our list's of breakfast spots for anyone living or visiting Pleasanton. Been here a few times now. I am a huge breakfast person and its nice to have traditional breakfast place like this so close to home. Had part of: Chipotle chicken wrap "Coach Andrade" Chicken fried steak, eggs, potatoes and toast. We came late and missed and kind of line, which there can be on weekends. We were both starving, and we didn't finish our food. The wrap was tasty, but not anything special. The chicken fried steak was on point. I guess i really should just stick to breakfast food here. Food is ok, but the hours are not reliable. We called to make sure they were open. They told us "8:30 or 9:00 pm." We drove thirty minutes to get there, arrived at 8:00 and they told us they were closed because business was too slow. Frustrating!! Had breakfast with my family here. Laura, the server did not write down our order. She decided to impress us with her memory. We anticipated that the order might be messed up and it was. Now we need to tell her that there are mistakes, so we are uncomfortable. The potatoes were wrong on mine (hash browns instead of country). Not a big deal, but instead of just bringing me the correct potatoes, she took away my entire plate. Now my family is eating without me. Why would you take all of my food away? Just bring me the new potatoes. Isn't this common sense and polite? There is no way that not writing down an order ever works out well. Even when everything is correct, the customer is worried that something might be wrong. Customers also will change their order to make it simpler, when they see the server without a pen. We don't want to substitute ham for bacon in the omelette, because that might be too much to remember. Other restaurants in the area (Bill's Cafe), use electronic ordering. The new owners of the All Star Kitchen are the former cook and his wife the waitress. They have done a remodel on the inside and have turned part of their parking lot into outdoor dining for about 15 people during this Covid thing. Breakfast was super and their BLAT sandwich for lunch was really good. We have been trying to eat there once a week as a take out just to help the business but have found a place we will eat more often now that we can sit down and socially distance and enjoy a meal. Not one table got silverware until they asked and always after the food arrived. My breakfast was made wrong i sent it back, It came back wrong again. I had to ask for coffee refills. i love this place! i've come here a couple times with some coworkers, and not gonna lie, some days were better than others. I will just say they have a really large menu with lots of options! the first time i went here was on a saturday morning and they sat in a separate room by ourselves, i'm assuming because we had a somewhat larger party of 7. the service was okay but my main issue was that we were indoors and there were so many flies around my party's table and it got annoying having to shoo them away all the time. other than that the server was friendly and the food was good! i came back today with a friend at 7am on a thursday morning so it wasn't so busy and if i were to rate my review on only this visit i would give 5 stars! I got the breakfast burrito with some fruit and it tasted great! overall i would say the main plus for me here are that they have a wide variety of items on their menu and so far there have been no misses! read more
