My wife and I have eaten here twice a month for the last 4 years and I always make excuses for little things that go worng with our meals, not big things just annoying things. Last night was no different their either out of something or the food takes to long or just whatever it's always something. Last night it was THE SHRIMP SCAMPI WAS TERRIBLE I've had bigger shrimp at White Castle. They were hard as a rock and tasted like crap I'm pretty sure they were fully cooked & frozen not fresh before they made it to my plate. You would have to try to make something that bad and serve it, Did I say it was terrible ? I'm sure I did. On a good note the bread ok and so was the calamari. i only wish this place was bigger! didn't have to wait too long but i guess it's a good sign, and we were not disappointed! everything we had was really delicious!! started with the bread basket and special cold dipping sauce, a bit spicy but really good and garlicky! then grilled polenta for appetizer, large portion with sausage for only $7?!? it was amazing! i had the chicken special, it was chicken breast stuffed with ricotta and spinach, then breaded and fried and served over angel hair with a white wine lemon sauce, it was truly spectacular and i wish it were a permanent menu item!!! my bf had the gnocchi with meat sauce and the minestrone with bacon, he loved them both, too! the desserts looked awesome but we were very full!!! can't wait to come back! and the owner, vic, was the host, super nice guy and really had a great family feel! our server was very sweet, too!! read more

Been here several times, not been disappointed yet. Wait staff is fast, drinks never go empty and the owner, that I am guessing is Vic, walks the floor watching and directing. The food is as promised, the background music is great, and the inside of the place feels like being in an old movie. I'd gladly introduce friends to this place. Definitely NOT recommended. I have tried this restaurant three times now, and my last visit this week was HORRIBLE. I can't complain about the food. They do have some yummy items to eat, and maybe that's why I tried to go a few times to give them a chance. But, the atmosphere, the cleanliness, and this last night the service was not warm and inviting and I will never return again. The silverware was filthy; the building was cold; the waitress never gave us the specials; the coffee I ordered was room temperature, she never brought us our salads; when my food came the sides were cold. Some of the other posts boast able the competition of the larger chains down the street, this restaurant will not survive if they don't clean up their act. YUCK!!!! read more

Growing up downriver I have no idea why the first time I go to this place is when I don't even live downriver anymore. Why was I going to Carrabba's or the Olive Garden or any other chain restaurant for that matter when this place was right under my nose? This is by far some of the best Italian food in the area. The service was amazing. There atmosphere is nice and cozy. Good bread came with the meal. We got some sorbet for dessert that came inside of the fruit of whatever flavor it was (orange sorbet in an orange). It was just overall a great experience. I am mad at myself for not discovering this place when I lived closer - I blame my parents. :) read more

So far so good. Two experiences here and both left me happy (and full). Let's start with the service and we'll work our way down to the food, shall we? The service was great, start to finish (both times). I'll discuss my most recent experience since it is fresher in my head. We were greeted immediately by a gentleman by the door. He was very pleasant and prompt. He asked if we preferred a booth to a table which I liked because I hate table seating. He put us in a private booth away from other patrons as they weren't super busy at the time. Another thing I thought was considerate as y'all know, women hate eating in front of strangers. After being seated a waitress appeared instantly to take our drink orders. She also went over all of their specials and seemed knowledgeable about what they were offering; giving detailed descriptions of each item. The service started out well and ended well. She was on it! As for the atmosphere, the place is a little dated. However, the name of the restaurant is 'Casual Dining' so I didn't expect crystal chandeliers and gold leaf plates. It's casual people; like down home with a hint of Italy. It did feel very clean which is something I look for. Also, the women's restroom was sparkling. But they were out of paper towels to dry ones hands. No biggie I guess. Things get missed sometimes. There was one thing about the atmosphere that was kind of annoying and in fact, this is partially why the lose a star......they had music playing over the speakers in the place. Which is totally fine by me. The problem was, there was also music coming from the kitchen (I think) and it was bleeding with the overhead speakers. Two different styles of music blending together was quite painful to listen to. Moving onto the food; Yum! All items I ordered (both times), I absolutely loved and drooled over. Starting with the spinach artichoke dip. Bad for you? Yes. The best thing ever at this restaurant? Yes. Vic's has this on lock. The baguettes they provide to dip into the dip are absolutely to die for. The dip is extremely creamy and well blended too. I have to go back to their baguette though....OMG! So tasty; with butter, garlic, and a slight crunch. I could eat them all day. The salad is just a salad but they have house dressing that is also phenomenal and I am pretty sure the croutons are made in house. They were also well seasoned and packed a flavor punch. I have ordered the fettuccine alfredo there 2 times now. There were other items that peeked my interest (specifically, the stuffed yellow peppers they had on special) but because their alfredo sauce is perfect, I find I cannot stray away from it. Yes, it is too delicious. I also tried their ribs this last time because the person I was with let me try a bone. They were moist and had a classic honey BBQ flavor. They were not tough but did not fall off the bone. Also, they were quite fatty. I didn't hate them but they weren't my fave. My guest agreed through and through as we sampled each others meals. Oh, and I almost forgot the free bread with dipping sauce they provide. The bread is fresh baked and the sauce is killer. There is a little hint of heat in the sauce but it is not overpowering. A pepper heat. The sauce is addicting! All in all, I will be back here and I will try more items (probably the stuffed peppers). I may update my review after I have dabbled a little more with their menu. For now, they get 4 stars. I am a truly satisfied customer and will go back. read more

Best place to eat downriver! My family and I have been coming here for years. Though it can get busy on the weekends causing a wait, it's well worth it. And let's face it, what restaurant doesn't have a wait nowadays. The food is always delicious and the service is always great. Love Erin as a server! Best restaurant downriver! I've tried multiple "hidden gems" of downriver and this one beats all of them! Been going here since I was a kid!

My husband and I were looking for something different, something we hadn't tried before. As there was an hour wait at Carrabba's, we drove down the street thinking there might be an amazing dining opportunity awaiting us. We have found some wonderful eateries just by not wanting to wait for a table somewhere. But we were wrong in this case. Vic's is a casual dining establishment that is family friendly. They serve mostly Italian fare, and there is a full bar. We walked into the lobby at Vic's--or, tried to as there was only room for two people to stand in between the counter and the door, and two people were already standing there. Several minutes went past and those first two people were seated and we could finally enter the building completely. Looking around the place, I noticed it appeared much larger from the outside. From my vantage point at the side of the bar, I noticed there were several tables at the back of the restaurant that were empty. I assumed that in the interest of clearing congestion we would be seated rather quickly at one of them, but alas, it was not to be. A few more minutes and a gentleman came up to tell us that there would be a booth available soon, and there was. After we were seated in the dining room, we were presented with menus and placed our drink order (iced tea for both of us--they do not carry Splenda or Equal, just Sweet-N-Low and sugar). A bread basket with what appeared to be a spicy dipping sauce appeared very promptly. The waiter came to the table and told us what the specials were for the evening--a 12 oz. NY Strip with fresh mushrooms and gorgonzola cheese with garlic mashed potatoes, and a type of fettuccini with chicken (I cannot recall the name of the dish, but as soon as he said fettuccini I tuned out because I am low-carbing). While we perused the mostly Italian menu, we discussed our experience thusfar. It was rather loud in the dining room (we arrived at prime time for dinner, so the ambient room noise was a bit higher than we prefer) but we discussed the decor (heavy, dark wood tables and booths, the bar area separated from the dining room proper by a half-wall topped by a drapery of hunter green and cranberry) and the service thusfar (very prompt and pleasant). I ordered the Chicken Marsala, the other side of the table ordered the steak with gorgonzola. Both of us upgraded the house salad that came with the meal to a Caesar salad for an additional couple bucks each. The salads came out promptly and were okay, just okay. The entrees came out quickly also. On the plus side, the chicken was very hot so the plate was not sitting around waiting for someone to bring it to the table. My first bite of chicken was a bit of a surprise. What I first tasted was the wine used to cook the sauce. The chicken had an odd texture--rather like canned chicken and there was zero seasoning at all. The mushrooms were rubbery and overcooked. The garlic mashed potatoes were very dry and oddly bland also. I ended up eating only half of one of the chicken breasts and one small sample bite of the potatoes. My husband's steak was also unseasoned and he was also surprised at the blandness of everything. The waiter came by during the meal and brought refills on our iced tea. When we put our plates to the side of the table, the waiter came back and asked if he could wrap the leftovers. We told him it wouldn't be necessary and he didn't ask if there was anything wrong with the food. There was nothing to really complain about, because I had the feeling that this was just how the food IS there. Also, there was no offer of seeing the dessert tray from our waiter. It was alright though, because it was sitting at the edge of the counter within touching distance of the people standing waiting to be seated, uncovered and unrefrigerated when we came in so we knew what was on it. So, to sum up: The positives: We were seated within just a few minutes on a busy Friday evening. The salads were within acceptable parameters and the service was excellent. The negatives: The entryway of the building is set up awkwardly and traffic flow comes to a standstill at times. The food is very bland. The dessert tray was left out in the open and within reach of people waiting to be seated. The noise level was very high in the small dining room. We left, $50 lighter and still hungry. read more

This is a hidden gem for Downriver. It was a great experience all the way around. My wife and I ordered the Chicken Marsala. Sweet baby Jesus is was delicious. The portion was perfect. The soup was delicious as well. Our server was intuitive and super friendly. Vic came to our table twice just to make sure we were enjoying our visit. There is a genuineness to the guy. He truly seemed to care about what we thought of the place. My wife and I like to visit places that take a very strong interest in their patrons experience. The place was very clean, well kept overall. If you're in the mood for Italian, stop in here. You won't be disappointed whatsoever. read more

I never thought I would eat Chicken Marsalas anywhere other than Carraba's. I thought wrong. We went to Vic's on Friday, the place is family friendly and we didn't get looks cause our kids were with us. Our Waitress was beyond friendly, with our kids she made sure they got their food first so we could enjoy our appetizers. When our Chicken Marsalas came out you would think there was a little Italian grandmother cooking our food. When we told our waitress how good our food was she brought over the owner and he (Vic) couldn't be any nicer. I would highly recommend this place for the food and service. read more

Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had Lasagna Sicilano which had a good amount of meat sauce and cheese on top. Wife had the Tortellini Scallops and Broccoli which she loved. Very nice seafood flavored white sauce. She had a house salad with Creamy Romano dressing which was delish. I upgraded to the Village Salad which had romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, Gorgonzola cheese and their house dressing. A little pricey with a $2.75 up charge but tasted great. Next time I am getting the house salad with the awesome Creamy Romano. read more

First time in...very nice..clean..me and GF in for a nice lunch..started with mussel appetizer..wonderful..very nice sauce..lots o garlic..fresh mussels...yummo.. The tomato bisque soup was velvety and smooth..great flavor We split the lobster ravioli...could have used more lobster..but not a complaint...wonderful dish.. After driving by this place dozens of times and never giving it a second thought, I was given the task of buying a gift certificate from them for a basket that was being raffled off at our church. The attention they paid to me even though I wasn't eating was impressive, so I brought the family for dinner to check them out. The food is fantastic, the service is personal and attentive, and after going once or twice you feel like you know the owner. It is now our go to place when we are looking for quality higher end Italian fare. My favorite is the shrimp scampi over angel hair pasta, but I've never had a meal here that wasn't excellent. We have brought friends here, and everyone we have brought now frequents Vic's on their own. Vic's came highly recommended by several people so Wednesday night four friends and myself decided to give it a try. We arrived at 5:00 and several tables were occupied but it wasn't busy. We were seated right away, given menus and placed drink orders. First off I had the impression the server was new because he seemed a little unsure of himself, he wasn't bad just a tad slow. We each ordered something different, my pork chops were delicious, cooked just perfect. The others had chicken & veal. Everyone liked their food but there were a few minor complaints, cold potatoes being one. One of my issues was the overhead music. The place is small & when it's crowded (and it got very crowded) it's very noisy and hard to have a conversation. My biggest issue however was with the manager, owner or whoever he was constantly hovering over our table. Yes there were people waiting but we were eating, having dessert and paying our bills and every 20 seconds he'd walk up to our table and peer over to see if we were leaving! We were not just sitting there taking up space!! Does the phrase "bums rush" come to mind? His hovering was so uncalled for it would keep me from returning with more than two people. Used to be Salvatore Scallopini's, but the man who was in charge (general manager, I guess?) bought out the location. The food is all the same, as far as I can tell, and it's still fabulous. My fiance and I go here when we're craving Italian. We strongly prefer it to the chain Italian restaurants, as it's more cozy and the food is just downright better. There are tons of options, and it's well-priced. Service is always quick, and every server I've ever had here is very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Love it. I don't see what all the hype is about this little place , one it's a little outdated , two there is no air just a little fan on the counter , it's pretty uncomfortable ! The gentleman serving us seemed very nervous and not experienced . The lady at the counter seems bothered and rude ! This place is in need of a visit from Gordon Ramsay. The interior is really dated. I've sat there at times while waiting for food and picked out several things that could quickly be updated to brighten up and modernize the place. Seems like they use the same base for a lot of their sauces. Flavor is pretty good but not as great as some of the other non-chain Italian restaurants Downriver. Fried Ravioli appetizer is nice treat. And you can taste that they make their own Caesar dressing, which is nice. Good food but nothing spectacular. Hope they can still do well with 2 major Italian chains within a short drive and not having the best location. read more
